KKO Store Scam

Hi all. On the 25th April 2015 I received 4 text msgs from KKO store claiming that I had subscribed and I was being charged $9.99 per week. Having run up a bill already of $30. I subscribed to no such thing. I had to visit their web to find out what it was.
The number to stop the subscription in the text msg they sent read 1979999…this number did not work. I visited KKO store web page and found the correct number being 19789999. In the text msg they had left out a (8) in the number.
However I sent STOP to the above number and received no reply. I called the help number also from the text msg being 1300957230. I got a automated answer service which took my details and told me I would receive a response within 2 days..again I had no reply. I sent a email requesting the subscription be stopped and got a automated reply.
So I called my Provider Telstra and informed them.
They barred all Premium service providers, to stop any more of these 3rd party charges and subscriptionWith drawing credit from my account and gave me this number to reply STOP to .....
19 78 90 50..... I immediately got a msg from kko syroe saying the subscription was terminated.
I hope this helps any one in the same situation. Call your provider and have third party premium charges BARRED. I am now going to see what I can do about getting my money back, however I may have to wear the cost.

OK a few points:
1. Telstra is being unconscionable in allowing the association with KKO store to continue.  I can only assume they are receiving a cut.  The first post was on 11/17/2014 and it has 24,559 views. At an average of $40 hit by the time users realise they're being charged That's $982,360.
Given the ABN of 35 094 069 726 doesn't line up with the company name of MIA Pty Ltd then Telstra is clearly being negligent in dealing with this entity.
2. KKO aren't providing any service let alone an uncolicited service which is illegal.
3. To stop the "subscription" you need to reply STOP to 19789999 or 1979999 whatever it says in the text rather than replying to the text. This text will cost $0.25. I was hit for 3 charges and have looked into it today 16/7/15.
4. I called the number on my phone bill for MIA which was 1300 724 406 and spoke to a "customer service rep" they advised I send an email with support for the charges and they would send a cheque. They were happy to hang up at that point but i pointed out that they might actually need my address to send a cheque. The email address is [email protected]. I was advised it would take 2-4 weeks for the cheque to arrive. When I said it's a nice scam the rep replied have a nice day and hung up.
5. The entity that lines up with the ABN provided on the phone bill is Digital Turbine Asia Pacific Pty Ltd. Their phone number is 02 9925 8888 and address is L2 221 Miller St, North Sydney.  I called their number and said do they operate KKO Store. The reply was ah um ah yes. I asked how I receive a refund and redirection to customer service was mentioned. I said i had spoken to them and was delayed with 2-4 weeks for a refund mentioned. I asked if I would receive a refund and was told yes. I will advise how that goes.
6. I've never accessed premium content on my phone and I'm appalled that Telstra have allowed this to continue. The only reason they would do so is if there is money for them to make.
Pathetic.

  • How do I contact corporate about Verizon Wireless store scamming me?

    Hi all,
On September 8th, I signed up for a MiFi 2-year contract that came along with a free Jetpack device. I specifically told the salesman to tell me about all of the charges in advance, so I wouldn't be surprised when the bill came. He told me it was $80 per month for the plan, plus $18 for tax on the device. Nothing else was mentioned.
I then sign up on the Verizon website and download my Equipment Receipt and my 1st Bill Estimate. Boy was I shocked! They were charging me $260.66, for what I'm still not sure, because NOTHING ADDED UP. It would seem that Verizon cannot even perform simple addition. I also noticed that the receipt said the following (I'll paraphrase):
    1. I had 14 days to get out of this mess.
    2. They expect me to pay a restocking fee of $35 just for returning their "free" device.
    3. I was only entitled to a credit for the activation fee if I cancelled my service within 3 days of signing up.
This was a red flag to me, having wasted my valuable time previously with other irresponsible credit card companies. So I went into the same Verizon Wireless store where I signed up and told them I wanted to return the device and cancel my plan on September 11th, which would entitle me, according to them, to be credited back for the activation fee; the estimated bill says this amount is $35.
They said they would charge me the $35 restocking fee. I told them I thought that was unfair for the following reasons:
    1. The device was free;
    2. I never agreed to that when I signed up. They just printed it on the receipt after I signed up. The next thing you know, they'll tell me I owe them my next child. How can they just make stuff up after the fact?
So I refused to pay and told them (the manager was there along with 2 other salespeople) I was returning the device. They refused to give me a return receipt, so I left the device there and walked out, filming the whole thing (just me and the device).
In response, the manager said she was going to charge me for everything as if I never came into the store and returned the device.
Now it's September 13th and I received a call from another salesperson at the same store (on Topanga Blvd. in Woodland Hills, CA) saying I left my equipment there and would I like to come in and pick it up or would I like it mailed to me. I explained the situation to him and he STILL INSISTED ON MAILING BACK THE DEVICE TO ME, unless I agreed to come into the store and let them process the return/cancellation the way they wanted, which would mean (according to this salesperson) that not only would they charge me the $35 restocking fee, BUT THEY WOULD ALSO CHARGE ME ANOTHER $35 AS IF I JUST RETURNED THE DEVICE TODAY.
I asked for his supervisor and was told she's not there today. I then asked for the contact info for someone higher up in the chain of command, and was refused.
This is such a scam! I feel sure that someone higher up would understand that they will lose me (and as many people as I can tell this to) as a potential customer over chump change, which is just silly.
I really don't know if the problem is just this store or all of Verizon, but if I can't get this resolved in the next hour or so through this forum (hello, any Verizon reps out there?) I'll just make sure they can never take any more of my money by never considering using Verizon again, both for personal use and at work (I'm in IT and make those types of decisions at work), and convincing as many people as I can not to use them also.
The ball's in your court, Verizon. What will you do?

Thanks for reaching out to us via the community forum, zeroimpedance. We did have to remove the receipts that you attached since they contained your personal information.
I will reach out to you via Direct Message in order to get more details from you.
I'm pretty sure the 1st bill had the charges that include this month as well as a month in advance as well as the activation fee.
I would recommend going back to the store in order to ensure the service is canceled if that is what you desire. I also recommend you getting a receipt that indicates the service was canceled. Of course, we don't want you to leave so I would prefer to help with the understanding of the bill.

  • App Store Scam

Probably an older one, but I just got this e-mail to my primary account and believe it is a scam. Again, maybe old news but figured it was worth a re-post in the event some haven't seen this one before:
Your Apple ID was just used to download Real Football 2015 15.99£ from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.
If you initiated this download, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not initiate the download yourself.
If you did not initiate this download, we recommend that you go toiforgot.apple.com to change your password, then see Apple ID: Tips for protecting the security of your account for further assistance.

  • ITunes Store scam?

I would like to alert users to a possible hacking into iTunes Sore accounts. My account was accessed on 14th January by a possible hacker (I have never given my ID nor password to anyone)and two lots of £25 purchases were made for "Monthly Gift for [email protected] 1 £25.00" My debit card, the details of which should have held securely by iTunes Store, was charged twice. I have alerted my bank and iTunes Store and an investigation is ongoing. iTunes Store refuse to tell me what the items are that I am supposed to have purchased. This seems bizarre, especially as they have taken the money out of my bank account twice! I would urge you to change your passwords for iTunes Store and remove any credit card details that are lodged with them. Magalan.

  • Premium Carrier Billing

    There has been a lot of discussion on the forum recently about charges for content provided via Premium Direct Carrier billing. Example of these are (not an exhaustive list);
    Playweez
    KKO store
    SkillDerby
    PlayPlanet
    FiiTr
While the charges appear on your mobile bill Telstra does not market or develop these services. We allow our customers to purchase the content from these mobile sites and charge their mobile bill for convenience. Telstra enforces a number of consumer safeguards so that third party providers follow mandatory policies and industry rules to adequately inform customers on advertising, promotion, pricing, opt out and the purchase process for each service.
For example, consumers must be able consent or opt into the purchase of any third party content and receive a online confirmation of their order, before they proceed to use the content. A subscription confirmation text message is sent weekly from the content provider, notifying the customer of ongoing content charges landing on their mobile bill and how to opt out of the subscription service. The service provider’s help line is always included on the messages as well as on the customer’s mobile bill.
If you have been billed for a Premium Direct Carrier billed service and wish to unsubscribe or have a query about the charges then you need to contact the content provider in the first instance. If you have contacted the service provider and are not satisfied with the response then contact Telstra for assistance.
Finally, it is important to note that to stop charges you must unsubscribe from the service by sending STOP to a 19 number or speaking to the provider directly. While contacting Telstra and reducing premium service threshold to $0 will stop new subscriptions from being added, existing ones will continue until cancelled and are not affected by this change.

Dan, Dingo dan and the all the other moderators, wake up. This is a dishonest disgusting and aborhent set up and your customers are coping a flogging. Closing threads and moving issues only prevents us victims from warning other victims of the merry-go-round you are about to put them on. This Is a telstra issue. Fobbing off your customers who are being exploited and  by your lack of dilligence and blatent ignorence of the scam you are even more to blame than the people you are facititating. None of us want anything to do with these theives and you are forcing us into dangerous situations.I followed your process, was treated as a criminal by you and KKO for asking for my own money back. I have a pre paid service with you, i paid to have phone calls, SMS text and data, not for you to give it to the first joe blow who shows up with my phone number and a random date (which they can get anywhere).Contacted KKO (against my better judgement) via email provided by you (to wash your hands of the issue and fulfil your legal obligation to refer) and 3 months later they obliged me with a reply stating that they need more info. Namely my address and a copy of my phone bill. (Note this will give them enough information about me to apply for credit in my name). Given they were able to steal $30 from me with only my phone number you can imagine how keen i am to give them more. If someone dishonestly charges my credit card does the bank send me to india to get it back from them? No they refund it as they facititated an illegal transfer and if unable to recover they wear the costs. No difference here. For all of you chasing thier tail like me, my advice take the half payment offered by the first telstra consultant, reduce premium SMS to 0$ mark and cut your losses. its quite clear nobody, not the ACCC, not the ombudsman or even the communications alliance (http://www.commsalliance.com.au/contact-us) have any regard for your plight and will actively work to protect telstras interest and noone elses. Sorry for the reality check. P.S when the class action starts, add me to the list. I'm so cranky it might be me who starts it over $30.

  • Bought a $25 itunes gift card from 7-11 and it was invalid, cashier was too busy on the phone with a personal friend and didn't give me a receipt, please help!

I bought a $25 iTunes gift card from the 7-11 in Windsor Locks, CT earlier this afternoon around 6:45 P.M, and when I tried to activate it, the code was invalid, and when I called the 7-11 to let them know what happened, the foreign man that answered the phone started yelling at me when I told him the cashier was the too busy on the phone with a friend to give me a receipt for my purchases. Considering that my card didn't work and the guy yelled at me when I was trying to make him aware of the situation, it made me wonder how many other people has that convenience store scammed into buying invalid gift cards? If they are scamming people, is there a way for me to report the store to Apple for using the company to gain fraudulent dollars? Is there a way I can get my money back?

  • Microsoft Word 2012 scam app on store

I just noticed a "Microsoft Word 2012" app on the app store while browsing AppShopper. I checked it on the store and it is obviously a scam. How did this app even make it to the store? I don't see how an app advertised as "All features of the MAC version on your device", but obviously does not  makes it onto the store. I see that they creatively spelled MAC in all capital letters, as in MAC address, for example, and not Mac.
I also read on a app-dedicated website that not only this, but a "Cydia" scam app appeared on the store recently. Some readers responded to the article with the same concerns. Someone said that they are going to call Apple about this.
Are these scam apps going to become a problem with the App Store? Are they being caught fairly quickly?

Yeah, but that only works for apps that you've bought. Things like 'Microsoft Word' from 'Super Real Racing Games' for $9.99 is a pretty obvious scam, yet I can't report it.
These articles do a great job of outlining the problem and the possible solutions:

  • Scam apps on iTunes App Store

Is there a way to check for possible scam apps in the iTunes App Store and to report it to Apple so it can be kicked off of the App Store?  What should I do if I purchased one of those app and it later turns out to be scam?  Will Apple terminate the scam developer's account?

You can look at an app's reviews before buying it, that should give an indication as to whether it does what it says that it does. And if an app is newly released then you may want to wait a few days (unless it's from a recognised source), just in case it only has positive reviews (which might be from account's that the developer has created him/herself)
If you do buy an app that doesn't do what it's described as doing then you can use the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that app and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.
Whether an app will be removed or not I don't know, but I assume that they will do something if it is a scam.

  • Phishing scam from I-tunes store

I have received an e-mail that seems to be a phishing scam. It looks like a legitimate e-mail from Apple but it says that I purchased something from the I-tunes store and it asks for payment in Euros. It directs me to a site that tells me I can cancel the transaction by submitting my credit card info. I don't believe this is legitimate.

It's not from Apple, it's a phishing attempt to try and get your account and payment details - you could forward the email to Apple : [email protected]
Emails from Apple tend to be personalised (not 'dear customer' or similar), and are in proper English.
(You can view your account's purchase history via your computer's iTunes : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store
or on your phone you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com)

  • Apple Store Giveaway - I saw a post on Facebook re iMacs given away.  SCAM?

Thinking that it might be a scam, I called the contact number in Canada for the Apple Store (Consumer and Education Individuals)
    (800) MY-APPLE (800-692-7753)
The person I spoke with said they had NO INFORMATION regarding an Apple promotion that gives away their products at this time. She took a few minutes to look at the website that was reference in the post and said that it wasn't one of theirs. She then indicated that she was going to advise her colleagues of our discussion.
I deleted the item that was on my Facebook time line and tried to scan for other similar posts that appeared.
It's been reported as "Spam or Scam".
Any other comments on this type of thing?

To celebrate our amazing year at the Apple Store we're going to give away 100 Apple iPad's randomly to those who Share this picture and Like this page.
Since they are using the possessive form of iPad ("iPad's") while not specifying what the 100 Apple iPad possesses that is being given away, they don't have to give away a thing, unless it's an iPad's randomly and it's anyone's guess what that is.
I have never heard of a "100 Apple iPad" either and I'm rather familiar with Apple's product line.
You can have my randomly. I don't need it.

  • Paperless Verizon Store Rebate Scam

I bought two new Samsung phones on May 27th and was told they were eligible for a $50 rebate - $100 total.  I got that at a "green" Verizon store in Issaquah, WA.  The store is paperless - meaning you don't get receipts.  I was told to look in My Verizon on line for my receipts.  I specifically asked about the rebate paperwork was told told it would show up there as well.  I kept looking and looking.  I finally called Verizon after about 3 weeks.  I was told the rebate information would be send to my email account.  I looked there - never received it. I was told that I would have to call a different phone number for rebates - customer service doesn't handle them.  I spent hours looking for the rebate information.  I finally sent an email to the rebates customer service on June 30th.  I received an email today saying that since it's past 30 days of the purchase date it's too late to receive the rebate.   I was stunned.  In the store they didn't tell me I only had 30 days to send it in.  The customer service rep on the phone who said I would get the rebate information emailed to me didn't tell me I only had 30 days.  What a scam!   Anyone else have this experience?  Any suggestions on how it can be resolved without me losing the $100?

failure to pay rebates is something you should file a report with your States Attorney Generals Office. Usually Consumer Frauds and Protections Bureau, could be called something else.
Let the law get you what you should have received. States attorneys have fined companies in the past for these rebate scams. Or failure to pay the rebates etc.
    Good Luck
