KNI and native code

Hi all,
I am trying to implement jsr180 in java. However, the real work is to be done by calling the API of a native "C" stack. The problem is that there are event handlers that need to be registered for the API's, which will be required for callbacks to the callee. Now, as I think JNI does that thing very well, however, KNI doesn't have all the features. Is there any other (workaround) method that can be used here?
I will be glad for your help and support.
regards...
daj

yes its possible..
read my reply on ur ealier post about "interface c and java".. something like that..

  • RMI and native code

    Hi
    Can anybody send me a sample code(HelloWorld type)that is based on RMI and uses native code(eg. win32).

    If you're trying to do anything with native code, then you should be familiar with JNI API, windows or not.
    Check out the JNI tutorials on this site and i'm sure they'll provide you with JNI tutorials and samples.

  • Signed Applet and native code

    Hi all,
    I have an application which I deploy with webstart and includes native code. This all works perfectly with webstart. I now want to deploy it as an applet. This works accept for the native code. I have done heaps of searching and cannot determine the most appropriate way to make the native code visible to the applet.
    Ultimately I am at the point where i recieve a UnsatisfiedLinkError when calling loadLibrary(...) for the native code. Currently i have the native code (dll's for windows, so's for Solaris etc) in independent jars which are also signed (as needed for webstart).
    Could anyone give me some advise or a reference to more info on this topic.
    I am using Java 1.5 and am happy to use 1.6 if neccessary.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Andrew - of course you were correct about the signed cert - I misspoke when the CA signed applet didn't show a warning. (You were also right that I must have checked 'always accept' the certificate on the server I had the CA signed cert on).
    I think you guys are on to something about the privileged actions. It would explain where one popup has the icon and the other doesn't. We have Javascript making calls into the applet and we do use JNI (although I don't think there are any calls back). We do wrap these calls in privileged actions but maybe we missed something. What I've seen before is a security exception is thrown if we don't wrap them - but maybe there are areas where we don't and it doesn't throw an exception or it does and we eat it somehow (and for whatever reason doesn't cause anything noticeable).
    Now that I know it could likely be the applet code and not necessarily a build issue with signing the jars, I have another place to look...
    I'll check it out and let you know what I find.

  • KNI and legacy c code.

    hi
    I have some c code that I need to call from a J2ME application. I know I need to write a kni wrapper for the c code and i will be able to call c functions using this wrapper from my application which is running on the kvm. My problem is that there is a lot of c code and was wondering if there is a way to avoid manually writing a kni interface for all the c code that i want to call. Has anyone done anything like this before. Any help on how I should go about this would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tom.

    Hi,
    Can you please let me know how to access native code (c) in java files.
    I am having some functions written in C. I am not getting how to load the same into java files as there is no System.loadLibrary option in J2ME. So can you pls let me know in detail.

  • Make native code and Java VM interact

    Hi all,
    I am building a native components (Delphi and C++) using JNI.
    Currently my components involve a Java GUI.
    It loads the JVM, then request for that Java Object GUI.
    When the interface is created, I need to get back information
    from what the user can type in.
    However, the native code doesn't wait. It runs and continues right after
    the creation of the GUI, thus causing me trouble (trying to get
    null objects).
    Is there a way to make the native code wait for a java command from
    the interface, or is there a way to make both part of the component
    (java / native) to communicate and interact ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Florent

    There are quite a few options here, and this may not
    be the best, per se, but you could make a blocking
    call from the JNI to a Java method. That Java method
    will only return after whatever you want done in the
    interface has completed.Thanks for your reply. Is there other solution in the JNI itself,
    using the JNIEnv Object ?
    Else, I'll try to use that solution.
    Regards,
    Florent

  • Urgent help in porting kvm with KNI and cygwin..

    I am using kvm with cldc 1.0.4 and midp 2.0. And for using KNI I need to recompile whole of the KVM again after including the native code. I am doing this right now at windows 2000 platform, I can rebuild KVM using make %KVM_ROOT%\build\win32\and get no errors
    But when I follow "KNI Programming Overview" in "KNI Specification",
    I add(copy) the native method and Java code from "KNI Programming Overview" to the directoris which is
    ${KVM_ROOT}/kvm/VmUnix/src/Java_mypackage_HelloWorld.c
    ${KVM_ROOT}/api/src/mypackage/HelloWorld.java
    then I type
    C:\J2ME\CLDC\kvm\VmWin\build>kvm_j -classpath c:\j2me\cldc\api\src mypackage.HelloWorld
    ALERT: Native method 'mypackage/HelloWorld::sayHello' not found
    Anyone has experience on it? I totaly follow the Sun's KNI Specification but I can't get a correct output. What else thing I need to know that don't specify in the documents. What reason make this? I never rebuild (make ) my KVM correctly or any envirnoment need to be set
    thanks in advanced
    Eric

    i tried the same like following with linux in linux respective directories
    Before rebuilding the KVM, I modify the makefile (in ${KVM_ROOT}/kvm/VmWin/build/) by adding "Java_mypackage_HelloWorld.c" at the end of "SCRFILES = ..."
    As I use Windows 2000 platform, I place my files like that :
    ${KVM_ROOT}/kvm/VmWin/src/Java_mypackage_HelloWorld.c
    ${KVM_ROOT}/api/src/mypackage/HelloWorld.java
    then I type : "make USE_KNI = true" (in %KVM_ROOT%/kvm/VmWin/build/)
    and finally :
    ${KVM_ROOT}/kvm/VmWin/build/kvm -classpath ${KVM_ROOT}/api/classes mypackage.HelloWorld
    when i build make file
    make USE_KNI=true

  • Help in porting kvm with kni and Fedora.

    Hi, I am trying to use KNI with cldc 1.0.4. on Fedora Core 4. I get the following alert while trying out the HelloWorld example included in the KNI Programming guide:
    ALERT: Native method 'mypackage/HelloWorld::sayHello' not found
    The KVM recompiles again after including the native code, but I get lots of warnings in the ROMjavaUnx.c file:
    warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer wll break strict aliasing rules.
    what do these warnings mean?
    I copy the native method and Java code from "KNI Programming Overview" to the following directories: ${KVM_ROOT}/kvm/VmUnix/src/Java_mypackage_HelloWorld.c
    ${KVM_ROOT}/api/src/mypackage/HelloWorld.java
    to execute the java class i type :
    [root@localhost j2me_cldc] bin/linux/kvm_j -classpath api/classes mypackage.HelloWorld
    & i get the alert:
    ALERT: Native method 'mypackage/HelloWorld::sayHello' not found
    however both the nativeFunctionTableUnix.c and ROMjavaUnix.c have the corresponding HelloWorld references, and the HelloWorld object file is present in the j2me_cldc/kvm/VmUnix/build/obj directory.
    Can someone tell me whats going wrong here? Do I need to specify or modify something else? kindly help!
    thanks in advance

    I have the same problem of you, if you have resolved it, can you tellme how?????????

  • EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception has been detected in native code outs

    Here is my error :
    # An EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    # Program counter=0x502032cf
    Problem I have though is the app will run fine on 1 PC, but the same installation on another causes this. OS == NT ( i don't know too much about NT)
    Not really sure what to do about this one, really grateful for any advice.
    Thx

    It most windows JNI code an ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory problem: buffer overwrite, underwrite, dereference a null pointer, etc.
    I would suggest going through the JNI code and put in more error checking: return values from methods, check for non-null input params, etc.

  • Java application crashes due to some problem in native  code

    Hi All
    I have a Java application that calls APIs in a 3rd party DLL(I don't have access to its source code or logs) through my VC++ DLL(Win32) that acts as the wrapper DLL.
    The Application has many functionalities and is based on multithreading (both on Java layer as well as C++ layer). Most of the functionalities are working , but when I try to close the application, it crashes.
    Moreover the crashing occurs inconstently, sometimes it does not crash. Instead of showing any debug information , it simply creates a error file with disassembly code that I am not able to understand.
    Though the error seems like an java error, but actually it seems to be due to native code. I have try catch blocks in my code and also implemented settranslator functionality to get hold of structured/C exceptions. But still I am not able to catch any exceptions.
    I am pasting the the contents of the file here:

    vm_info: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.4.2_14-b05) for windows-x86, built on Mar 14 2007 16:46:11 by "java_re" with MS VC++ 6.0
    The JAVA Application during initialisation establishes a connection with the host server for various devices. For each of the device it establishes a separate connection and keeps listening on these connections using multithreading.
    During App close, we need to close each of these connections one by one for each device.
    The opening /closing of connection is done by 3rd party DLL and call to there APIs is done through a C++ Wrapper DLL that I have built between the Java layer and their DLL.
    When we close the Application, I am always able to close the connections on the first 2 devices. Then all of a sudden it crashes either for the 3rd device conn. close or for the 4th one. The code is the same for all the devices . That too sometimes it just goes fine without crashing. If its a null pointer exception, why is it that it crashes on some occassions and not in other times. More importantly, why is it that it does not fail for the first 2 devices , but fails for the 3rd or 4th device connection close?
    Can please anyone help me. Please suggest me as to how I can determine the cause of the error.
    And is this error really coming in ntdll.dll or is it getting caused of my dll?

    The opening /closing of connection is done by 3rd party DLL and call to there APIs is done through a C++ Wrapper DLL that I have built between the Java layer and their DLL.The specific error indicates a pointer/memory problem.
    The first place that is likely is in your code.
    The second most likely place for the cause is because you are using the third party library incorrectly. For example before exiting you are supposed to clean up resources and you are not doing so.
    As a remote possibility, much less likely that either of the above, there is a bug in jnative or in the 3rd party library.

  • An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

    I thought that my problem had been solved yesterday when I managed to run my application with out getting "An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM."
    I was told to uninstall "j2sdk1.4.1_02" and install my old version of 1.3.1 and then completely remove that (as i do not think i removed it correctly in the first place), then reinstall my new version again (j2sdk1.4.1_02). This appeared to work, and my application ran. However, today i planned to do more work on it and it errored again. I am getting the following error:

    I am now not sure at all why my computer is doing this, as it worked yesterday...
    Any light shed on this matter is much appreciated.
    Thanks, Mike

    Welcome to native code hell! The reason we all use Java is because
    native code sucks. It is to be isolated and quarantined to the smallest
    area possible.
    File a TAR/SR. Maybe you just need a newer vesion of the OCI client
    libraries on your machine. Maybe they are out of sync with the native
    portion of the type-2 driver.
    Say why you went from type-4 to type-2. In my opinion, unless you have
    a very good reason, you should go back to the reliable java driver. Java
    can't kill a JVM.
    Good luck,

  • Error in native code while using JMF player

    I have written the following test program:
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.media.Time;
    import javax.media.Player;
    import javax.media.Manager;
    import javax.media.NoPlayerException;
    class MyMP3Player {
    public static void main(String [] args) {
    try {
    File mp3File = new File("test.mp3");
    Player aPlayer = Manager.createPlayer(mp3File.toURL());
    aPlayer.start(); // Starts asynchronous playback
    Thread.sleep(10*1000); // Allow playback to continue for 10
    aPlayer.stop(); // stops playback (well, it really PAUSES!!!)
    aPlayer.deallocate();
    aPlayer.close();
    catch (IOException e) {e.printStackTrace();}
    catch (NoPlayerException npe) {npe.printStackTrace();}
    catch (InterruptedException ie) {ie.printStackTrace();}
    It works fine for 2 times: I can hear the first 10 seconds of the test.mp3 file. Then, on the third run, after it has played the file for the 10 seconds, the program gives me the error pasted below and exits. Does anyone know how to fix this? Am I doing something wrong in the program? BTW, I am running WinXP.

  • How to run 64-bit native code with Java Web Start

    This question has probably been asked many times, but I couldn't find anything in my searches.
    How can I get Java Web Start on a Solaris client (Solaris 10 in this case, with JRE 1.5) to run a java application that includes a 64-bit native code library? The application downloads fine, including the jar file that has the native shared object, but when the native library is loaded by the java application, I get a "wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64" error.
    I assume that is because Web Start is invoking the 32-bit java VM, which can't load a 64-bit library. I tried configuring Java Web Start to use the 64-bit VM (by setting the path to java to ".../jre/bin/sparcv9/java" in the javaws console) but then I get an error that says "Can't load library: .../jre/lib/sparcv9/libdeploy.so".
    Does Java Web Start support 64-bit native code, and if so, what do I need to do differently?
    Thanks.

    No it can't. On the Sun download page of the JRE it says that 64 Bit systems need to use the 32 Bit JRE to execute Plugins - this might be the same for Web Start apps.

  • OS X and classic creator and type codes

    Is there anyway, within the native os to change type and creator codes?
    Why would I want to? Here's an example:
    I get a .zip from a customer. Because I have Stuffit installed it takes ownership of the archive. That would be fine except I've noticed different results using stuffit vs. BomaArchive helper. As in they don't unzip with the same amount of files.
    I used to use Super Get info to change them, but that's not a possiblity now. And if Apple didn't hide Boma so deep in the OS I might be able to just make an alias and drop them on it. Won't find on a search for "Boma", both visible and invisible.
    Thanks for any help. I'm just trying to find another way to make my OS do what I want it to, not what some app develper or OS creator deems should happen.
    Remember... think different?

    You can easily change any document's default application by selecting the document icon, press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the section labeled Open With select the desired default app from the drop down menu. If you want all similar documents opened by the default app, then click on the Change All button.
    Alternatively download the freeware preference pane RCDefaultApp from www.versiontracker.com.
    BTW, not pointing a finger at you, but keep in mind that even morons "think different."
    Thanks for your ideas, and more, thanks for the jab at the slogan Apple used to use to differentiate itself, and it's consumers from other, less user friendly OS's.
    But your solution doesn't help me. I'm well aware of changing the assigned app through the get info window, and that there are other utilities as, if not more adept at this function. My problem is that, if I have to solve my problem this way, instead of gaining knowledge about what effect type and creator codes have in OS X and how to change and deal with them, I find it hard to impossible to track down the location of the app BomaArchiveHelper. It never appears in the "Open with" pop up, and therefore I need to know the location in order to navigate to it to tell OS X to use it. And being that I see different results when unzipping depending on which app was used to create the zip, I don't want to set it as default.
    So, my questions stand.
    How do you view and alter type and creator codes in OS X, and where exactly is BomaArchiveHelper located.

  • Can I change the path where my app reads native code?

    I have created an application that is using a native code file. It is (that is the DLL file) stored in the JDK folder in (jdk1.6.0_16\jre\bin) and my application reads from there.
    Is it possible to make the application to read the native file from somwhere else? From the JAR file?

    You can get the VM to look for native files (DLLs on Windows, SOs on Linux) by specifying
    java -Djava.library.path="path to your DLL/SO" etc. when you start your app.

  • The crash happened outside the java virtual machine in native code

    Hi,
    I have a biometric device with which I am given some C++ dlls. I am trying to call methods inside these using java (jna). I am loading the dll "zkemsdk.dll+" as follows:
    zkemkeeper INSTANCE1 = (zkemkeeper)Native.loadLibrary("zkemsdk", zkemkeeper.class);//zkemsdk is the dll, I am loading the dll here.
    Then, I am calling the function:
    zkemkeeper.INSTANCE1.Z_Connect_NETEX("ip address",4370);//Z_Connect_NETEX is a function inside zkemsdk.dll
    This returns me true or false based on whether am connected to the biometric device or not.Thus I am able to invoke this method without issues. But for other methods inside the dll, run time exception is thrown in console:
    Can someone help me resolve this issue. ??? Following is the content of the log file generated.
