Knowing an image's size

Hi,
well i'm a Java newbie, and i'll confess i'm still not even 1/3 of my way through my big big java book, lol, but i'm trying to do something and i don't know how to and any help will be very much appreciated...
my problem is i want to check the size of a file before uploading it, does anyone have a way that can be done ?

So the uploading is not handled by Java, but ... ?
If you use a plain HTML form for uploading from browser, you can try this:
<input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="1000">
That hints the browser that the maximum file size should not exceed 1000 bytes.

8cm * (1 in/2.54cm) * 300 dpi = 944 pixels (should be 1280 if this is the back camera)
6cm * (1in/2.54cm) * 300 dpi = 708 pixels (should be 720 if this is the back camera)
The back camera on iPad 2 is 1280x720 = 0.92Mp. No way to increase that.

Image Byte size in "Save for Web"-Dialog is wrong?

The Image Byte size in the finder is always larger than the size stated in Photoshop's "Save for Web"-Dialog box. For example, it shows me 34,36 KB in the SfW-Dialog, while the file information in Finder puts out "38,831 KB". Does anybody know how to fix this annoying behaviour?

The size reported in the Finder can be in base 1000 (lying numbers used by disk makers) instead of base 1024 (actual bytes) if you don't change the settings.
The size reported in the Finder can include the resource fork (metadata and thumbnails, some added by the OS), plus some extra space for disk block allocations (if you write 1 byte to a file, it still takes 4k or more of disk space).
The size given in SFW is a close estimate of the actual number of bytes written to the disk, and usually matches the size reported by FTP and the web server (sometimes the estimate is off by a little bit due to the final compression options chosen).
But SFW cannot account for the oddities of the Finder or Windows Explorer's accounting of file size.

What is image dpi after "Reduce Image File Size"

Does anyone know the resulting image dpi after using the "Reduce Image File Size" command in pages? My mother is trying to prepare some things for pre-press, and can't send her document to the printing press, because the pages docs are friggin huge! I'm trying to give her the easiest option for resizing all of the many images in the document, but don't know if this is a viable option if the end product needs to be printed. I need the output to be at least 300dpi.

As fruhulda wrote, asking Pages to apply changes to the pictures isn't the good path.
In fact, it's a perfect way to get a fat file.
My practice is :
Prepare the document in Pages to define the wanted size of every embedded pictures.
Edit the picture files in a tool dedicated to this task so that the resulting files will be 300 dpis ones for the wanted sizes.
Then, replace the original pictures by the definitive ones.
In most cases, the file will be lighter than the original one and you will have the 300 dpis resolution (except if you apply shadows but it's an other story).

Maximum Image file size flash can handle?

Does anyone knows the max image file size flash can load
using MovieClipLoader?
I tried 10.5 MB PNG file and Flash thinks it is loaded but,
the actual image never shows up.

Well it is good for that client. But it still won't work in
Flash. Sorry. You will need to slice the picture into different
chunks at 2880 x 2880 max and reassemble the tiles in Flash.
You may also run into an issue that things sometimes get lost
if there is more that 16,000 (or thereabouts) pixels difference in
their coordinates.

Where is the image file size???

Where is the image file size in LR3? I can't see it anywhere neither in the Library module, nor in the Develop module.

As far as I know Lightroom does not display the file size. Keep in mind that LR never makes changes to the Original files that you import.
When you export a file with LR edits the file size generated will depend on the edits applied and the size and quality settings you choose in the export dialog.

Are you sending files from the Adobe Send interface, Adobe Reader, or the Outlook plug-in?
Have you checked to see whether the files that you're sending appear in the Recent Files/Sent Files list when you're logged on to https://cloud.acrobat.com? (It could be that they're uploading, but not being sent.)
It would also be worthwhile to send the files in smaller batches, to see whether a particular file or files is problematic, and causing the error.
Please let us know how it goes. If you're still having trouble, please let us know where you're sending from, and whether you're able to send the files in smaller batches. It would also be helpful to know the exact error message that you're receiving.

How to reduce image file size in spreadsheet

I have created a spreadsheet that contains cells with small amounts of text, and images that I brought in from the Media Browser from iPhoto. This has caused the file size to become HUGE, on the order of 234 MB. Saving it as a pdf only reduces it to 220 MB.
I have tried the Format>Image>Reduce Image File Size, as well as File>Reduce File Size, but in both cases, those options are grayed out.
What am I doing wrong? All I really want is thumbnail versions of my image files.

When you insert a picture in a cell, it's used as a background.
To do that, the app keep it in a size allowing it to accomodate the larger cell size permitted.
If you want to get small images matching the cell size which you use, you must reduce the picture by yourself before inserting it. For instance, cells are often 72 * 16 pixels ones so you may reduce your pictures so that thir width become 72 pixels.
Of course, if the user enlarge the cell, the picture will become highly pixelated.
Look at this example.
In B4 is the original : 202 x 177 pixels
In C3 is the reduced one : 72 x 63
in B2 is the reduced one in a 202 x 177 pixels cell. It's awfully pixelized
We must arbitrate between size and quality.

How to know the "minimum panel size" property

I want to know the "Minimum Panel Size" specified in the "VI properties" by programming. It's very important to get this information, because my panel size changes over the execution and I need the minimum panel size available. I can’t use the panel bound property because it return me the actual size of the panel.
Any idea?

There is no property to directly return the minimum panel size that you set.
You can however trick it into giving it to you. Since you can't use the "Panel Bounds" property to make a window smaller than it's set minimum, You can try to set it to 0,0 size, then read the size and subtract the left from right and top from bottom to get the size. The panel will actually resize to the minimum, but will return an error if you try to go below that.
The attached VI shows this working. I only tried this 7.1, so if you have an earlier version, let me know and I'll save it back.

CS5. When I flatten the layers of an images the size went from 100MB to 50MB. Why?

I use CS5. When I made some adjustment (layers) the size was 100MBs. This was a photo of a painting. When I flattened the image the size went to 50MBs. Why? How canI keep the original size?

Because you no longer have more the one layer all you layers have been merged into a background layer without any layer mask.

Why do you think the dpi remains the same after using the code in the link?
Any given printer dosen't necessarily have to honor the dpi setting in an image format. In fact, usually the image viewer used to print the image takes control of the physical size of the image.

I try a Photo+ and everything is ok, but again must select all pictures or folder to open many photos. I click to one photo in folder, Photo+ open only clicked photos

Can easily navigate using cursor keys. What I like is that as you move past the last image it automatically shows the next folder or zip. Ideal for quickly looking at pictures.

Help with image real size

Hi guys,
I have a person who says he send this picture to Press or Priting and they work ok. I am still a bit newbie in some of that stuff. Two questions
1) Which is the image real size in Kb? When I received in the email it says 80 Kb. When i open it in Photoshop it says 900 Kb. How come? Here is the picture in Finder>Get Info.
2) I wonder why this person says that picture is the one Ok for printing...when i open it in Photoshop it says 5x4 cm at 300 dpi. Am i wrong? What i am missing here? Could i use a resolution less than 300 dpi for Press and still print with acceptable quality? Here is the picture in Photoshop.

but file size is an issue for any imagery used over the ether.
Smaller is better. The reason for this is speed.
One has to have some standard with which to measure resolution.
I think that I will use the Adobe standard of pixels/inch.
Shame on me (and Adobe) for not changing to suit this idealogical hair splitting.
You are confusing your “resolutions”. A great example of why the industry should describe ppi as “pixel density” instead of “resolution”.
Is a 1200 ppi file a low res file? One of my clients got his research paper rejected because of the “low quality” images he sent. “But they were 1200 ppi” he lamented! Yes they were 1200 ppi, but only 0.4 inches wide.
Is an advertisement made for a 48 foot wide bill board high res image? The required file is 5200 pixels by 1800 pixels, 30 MB size. But look: the dpi is only 9 pixel /per inch! That is way too low of resolution to submit.
My $2000 DSLR is produces images that are only 72ppi! That is web page resolution. Something is wrong with my camera. Should I return it?
Theses are all real examples, that I have personally dealt with, where people have incorrect concepts of resolution (how many pixels make up an image) verses pixel per inch resolution (that is, the metadata describing how dense the pixels will be when printed).
Now, it’s hard to fix stupid. But, yes, I do think a terminology change could go a long way in preventing some of this confusion.

James, thank you. I'm experiencing the same issue and submitted feelback at that link. I'm trying to use the same pumpkin image I used last year for Halloween on my lock screen and attempting to follow instructions (Move and Scale) and would like to make the image smaller so that it appears BELOW the time and date, but although I'm able to move the image, I'm unable to scale it - make it smaller. I've since tried this with several other photos with the same outcome. It seems that in iOS 7 one can make images bigger, but not smaller. I'm not sure what the logic behind that could be.
