KT4 Ultra Duron Overclocking question

I've got a Duron 900 and was wondering if anyone else has successfully overclocked it, and what their settings were/are?
thanks,
bill

I had a Duron 950 at 1100+, but forget settings.
Suggest you go to http://www.overclockers.com CPUdatabase, and see the results with your chip. Lots of good details there. Good luck!

  • KT4 Ultra CPU Upgrade Question

I am trying to upgrade my CPU from a 2100 XP to a 2800 XP on my KT4 Ultra and am running into trouble.  I was under the impression that all I had to do was turn up the FSB frequency in CMOS and everything would be OK howerver this doesn't appear to be the case.  Currently the FSB Freq. is set to 100 and I can get it above 104 or the system will not POST.  Has anyone out there put a 2800 with the latest BIOS in a KT4?  What setting need to be changed and what values should be used in CMOS??
    Help please!!!!

    set to 166

  • Pb ? MSI KT4 Ultra

    Hello,
I own a msi kt4 ultra motherboard, 512 Mo Ram Twinmos PC3200 and an athlon xp1700+@2012 MHz (175*11.5)
One day, I managed to boot at 194*10.5 but now, it is very instable with any fsb > 180. Where is the pb ? Is it due to the PCI or the AGP ? (because the coef is still 1/5 nd not 1/6 ?)
Is it very impossible to succesfully boot at 200MHz with a KT4 Ultra ?
    Other  question :
I manage to boot with my ram at cas 2-3-2-6-2Ways but not 2-2-3 or 2-2-2
It is very strange that I can put the RAS precharge at 2 clocks but not the RAS to CAS
    Couls anyone help me ?
(sorry for my english , I'm french...)

but its very doutfull the board would run at it
it only has 1/5 divider so at 200 fsb agp would be at 80 not 66 and pci at 40 not 33

  • KT4 Ultra Overclocking Questions.

I have read the above sticky in regards to this board. MSI (6590) KT 4 Ultra. My questions is this ..I have an AMD Athlon 1800+Xp CPU. In bios for FSb its default is 100...........obviously thats too low because BIOS will under clock the cpu to FSB 100 x whatever the multiplier is. I can set in BIOS as high as 272 mhz and a multiplier of 12.5/13.5 stable for gaming .  But how come Wcupid reports the FSB as being 142.34 when its obviously set in BIOS to 272 .........Is that just the CPU FSB multiplier or the actual system FSB ? One would think that if you set the FSB in BIOS to 166 that it should report the FSb as being 166 mhz ........266 in bios should be 266 FSb for system should it not?? .
Anyway the default ghz speed for this CPu is 1.591 GHZ at 266 FSb mhz set in BIOS. But i use the 12.5/13.5/ multiplier which makes it 1730 GHZ CPU speed and reports cpu as XP 2000 + in post info. Now i can go up in increments of 1 in BIOS FSb all the way to 274 ..anything higher is unstable. But i thought this moboard could be overclocked to a 266 mhz FSb . Wcupid shows it as 142.34 right now and the multiplier in BIOS is 12.5/13.5x and the FSB in bios is set to 272 i beleive . Maybe im dumb but can someone explain how this can be.

Sure i do ....If what you say is true ...Because AMi BIOS has a setting for FSB in BIOS which mine is set to 270 MHZ. Im a veteran and i have built CPUs so overclocking is not the issue. The issue is the amount of MHZ i can set in bios that does not equal up to what it should in Wcupid. Please re read my post and you will see what im talking about or go into AMI bIOS ver 1.0 if you are able to and see what im talking about. I can reach 276 in that setting (max with this bios version is 280) but the multiplier has to be dropped to 11.5 to gain stabability. Id rather have a lower 270 setting and higher multiplier just because its stable and is not overheating . I want to know why i cant set that in BIOS to max setting (280) . CPU wont boot if i raise it past 276 at 11.5 multiplying.
With the BIOS setting at 270 and the multiplier at 12.5/13.5 the following info is taken from Wcupid screen
    Internal clock 1779 ghz
    System BUS 284.68
    System clock 142.34 (143)
    Multiplier 12.5
Im used to AOPEN jumper setting boards to overclock .

On my M/B i can get the top two ports to work fine, but not the bottom two. How come. I have the bracket installed also with the extra 2 usb ports - does this have something to do with it?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. KT4 Ultra can support upto the fastest XP2700+, you can get it provided you have money... Yes, FSB matching with memory speed the fastest.
    2. Enermax has extra features such as fan-control adjust.
    3. If it's idle, it's high. to get full load, just run some CPU benchmark and loop it.
    4. Your question sounds like "if I buy lottery today will I win?" No comment on the overclockability.
    5. Have you enabled ALL USB PORTs in the BIOS?

  • MSI KT4 Ultra! A little question.

    Hello. )
I'm very interested, in the new MSI KT4 Ultra, but i've a doubt:
The pure version of the KT4 Ultra, has a fan on the chipset?
How many IDE channels come with this pure version?
Thank you, and sorry about my poor english.  :D

You can modify de FSB in the bios, but there is a jumper that provides these 3 options, 100mhz, 133mhz and 166mhz. 100mhz for the duron cpu's, 133mhz for the Athlon xp  Palomino and Tbred, and 166mhz for the athlon xp Barton ( not 100% confirmed).

  • Overclocking with MSI KT4 ULTRA

    Hi,
I'm currently overclocking my XP 1600+ Palomino to just under an XP 2200+. My Idle temp is 39C and 47C at Load. My CPU is still locked and I'm running at 167FSB x 10.5 = 1758Mhz / 334 Mhz DDR. So far this is the highest stable overclock I am able to get with my current config. I want to get up to atleast a FSB of 180 - 185 to give my GeIL 512MB DDR433 PLATINIUM some sort of challenge, but I can't get the board to post at anything higher than 168FSB. Is it my board topping out or my CPU? What kind of overclocks is everyone else getting with their KT4 ULTRAs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks  )

Hehe so u think all is about MHz!!!????
If u think so go and get some education about overklocking!
I have reached 209FSB!!! Thats overkill!
And im running my system now on the min level x9 Multippel.
And that wil give me a damn strong and powerfull system, I can overklock it to reach the MHz frequence to but i dont right now, i must get a new mobo first, MSI is only !!!
Its up, i wil get a ABIT, or EpOX mobo. then i+ll show u  :D
Hmm i have a picture if u want.
But i dont know how to make a link to it, becouse i dont have a webpage now.

  • KT4-ULTRA questions

Okay I have recently purchased a KT4-ULTRA BSR, i have a 8500le right now thinking of upgrading to either a 9700pro or 9500pro will these cards work? You advertise 8x agp and ddr 400 but i have read nothing but problems running these items? currently i am running pc2700 at 180 fsb no problem! I am just concerned i dont want to spend the money only to have problems!!!!  I understand that some of the bugginess is caused by via but are u and via working on fixing the situation??  ?(

Where did you read cache slows system
If you disable the cache it runs slower...Just use the optimized settings from bios and tweak a little bit here and there
You can't really squeeze much performance out unless you overclock some things then it also depends on what you are running under the hood.

  • Is FSB overclocking above 175 MHz possible with KT4 Ultra?

I would like to squeeze a few extra MHz out of my AMD XP2600+ (without unlocking or other hardmods that cost money if they fail...). I have upped the FSB to 175 successfully, which gives me just above 2200 MHz CPU speed as reported of Motherboard Monitor. But when I go above that, it crashes. Upping the voltage from auto (1.65 on my system) does not seem to help. A guy on an overclocking board suggested that it's because it stops in the AGP/PCI slot since there is no lock of those speeds. Is this possible in any way, or are there any other dirty tricks to use so I can get more speed out of this?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

thanks!!!yes, it really seems to be a power source issue...
i am using a powerline 450W power source, and the smart doctor utility form asus reported a reading of red marked warning 3.12 volts intead of 3.3 volts, also i tested the 3.3 rails using a multimeter while the system was on and capture drivers under conflict and it reported a 3.25 voltage.....i opened the power source's box and clean its dust, and so, the problem is not happening anymore!!.anyway smart doctors is reporting a 3.15 voltage instead of 3.3 (not in red or under warning message)and the multimeter is reporting 3.27. but everything is working fine: capture and tv out fetures while using the processor as an athlon 2800+ for the first time since i bought the motherboard........
the 5 volts line is reported by the multimeter with 4.95 volts after and before the problem was happening, same with smart doctor.
    the hardware i used was:
    -two MSI kt4 ultra boards
    -kt4A
-an intel motherboard which i don't remember its brand, using dimm pc 133 memory(using anoter power supply)
    -asus v8460 for all boards
-same ddr memory for all msi motherboards
since the voltage is still not 3.3 volts reported, even if the entire video card is working fine, and i only cleaned the box, and didn't change anything to its structure, maybe the problem could happen again, i guess i should buy another power source then.
    i am very thankful
    Andres.
PD: i see that a lot of people is having this kind of problem through the forum and maybe its due to this voltage stuff too....maybe it'd be a good idea if a sticky thread  is posted repoting this stuff i believe. (if it hasn't yet of course)

  • KT4 Ultra Question

ok well this might be stupid of me to ask..but to me there are no stupid questions.
What is the best way to set up my hard drive and cd rom....can i use ATA 1 master and 1 slave..or do i need to use the ide 1 and ide 2 or how does it work...im just wondering if it would be better for me or should i leave things the way they are....i know this board has 1 ata slot and the harddrive supports ata..so i was just curious.
    Specs.
MSI KT4 Ultra SR BIOS V1.3
    Athlon XP 1700+ ThouroughBred @1.7ghz 140x12.5=1755Mhz
    512 MB DDR PC2100 266Mhz
    Gforce Ti 4600 128MB DDR 4xAGP
SoundBlaster Live Gamer 5.1 pci sound card
Maxtor 20Gb HD DiamondMax Plus D740X
    Antec SL400 400watt PSU

you don't say what kind of cd-rom you have but anyways...
Set each up as a master on their own channel. If you set them up on the same channel, the channel will only run as fast as the slowest device, thus making your hard drive run slower.

  • Athlon XP 2400 shows as Duron 1400 on KT4 Ultra? - Help!!

Today (16th) I noticed the PC acting a little sluggish so I decided to check the system properties to see that my processor shows as a 1400 Duron when infact its an XP 2400. Since I only noticed it being slow today - i'm guessing something must have happened.
About 7/8 MS critical updates came today - so I installed them as I always do and I assumed since they are the only things I installed - one of the updates may have caused the issue so I removed them all. . still nothing. I then did a system restore to 2 days earlier on my system (Win XP Pro) and still it shows as a Duron 1400 both in Windows and the BIOS.
I havent changed anything in the BIOS for the last 6 months - I havent updated it either.
I have used several CPU identifying utilities - both AMD and independent - non of them see it as an Athlon XP 2400. I am the only person who uses this PC so nobody could have even swapped the processor or anything as I am pretty much around the PC the whole time (incase u were thinking that!!)
Does anyone know why my Athlon XP 2400 processor is showing up as a Duron 1400 all of a sudden when I havent made any major system changes? Is there an update/fix/patch I need to get to sort this out? Is it a common problem?
    System Spec:
    Athlon XP 2400
    Motherboard - MSi 6590 (KT4 Ultra)
    BIOS - AMI v 07.00T
    Memory - DDR 512MB x2
    Thanks for any help!

thanks for your help guys! I opened it up and saw some dust on the CPU block and fan - but nothing more than I have seen before - but I gave it a good clean anyhows... I also decided to replace the CMOS battery because even though it was showing a voltage in the BIOS, given that its the battery that came with the M/B when I first bought it 4 years ago - I thought it was time to change it.
After the clean and the battery replacement - the system was back showing "Athlon XP 2400" in both the BIOS and system settings so I'm guessing it was down to the CMOS battery. So thanks for the help! I'm glad to have it sorted now! I have however discovered the Northbridge fan is dead so I'm gonna still have to open it up in the next few days to replace that! If only that were as easy to find as a new battery was lol ...
    thanks for your time!

  • Can't overclock my 2400XP on KT4 Ultra

    Hi All,
I am trying to overclock my new config
    2400XP running @133 fsb
    MSI KT4 Ultra BSR
    256mb DDR 2700
    Volcano 9 HSF
    Windows XP Professional
I've installed the board and only amended the fsb in the bios from 100 to 133 to set at 2ghz. If I use the Fuzzy logic to up the speed, it gets to about 135on the fsb and just reboots XP. I have tried amending bios settings such as :
    1. fsb 135 on bios only, no change to voltage or multipler
    2. fsb 166, clock multipler 13.5
In every case, this just results in locking the board down  X( and having to do a bios jumper reset to recover........what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help on this. Everyone keeps saying that this chip is easily overclockable, but I can't get it to work.
    Nigel

Basically, I suggest you set all voltages and multipliers at default >set FSB to 166 (1/5 divider kicks in at 152), and you should be off and running - always watching temps! That's what I did with my new (older model) KT3 Ultra as soon as I installed it. (EDIT: I also had RAM set at SPD/Normal/1t disabled.)
Enermax 350 could be enough depending on what gear you have.
If you're new to overclocking, I'd stop at 166 FSB, and review this o/c guide (you can damage your system going off half-cocked). Page down slightly to Beginner's Guides:

    Good luck to all.  )

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA BSR QUESTIONS

I just bought new stuff for my computer
     kt4 Ultra bsr
     AOPEN Geforce ti4200 128mb DVI
2200 XP CPU (IN A BOX)
     256 ddram 333mhz
so i began rebuilding my computer,
first thing i did was moving the CLEAR CMOS to the right position (by the manual) then it wouldn´t boot, no lights, no fan movement, so i found out later  on the internet that it was wrong, so i put the jumper in the other position as shown in the internet.
But when i start up the computer now it only shows
    1500 XP 1350 mhz, should be 2200 xp - 1800mhz i think.
but it won´t start with the fsb at 133 mhz. what can i do ????
    i have calculated the 5v * 30a + 3.3v * 14 = 196w (dont know what that mean hehe)
i just dont know what´s wrong huff plz anyone help ?

    Hi,
unable to run FSB at 133Mhz is either two problem or both:
    1. CPU Heatsink did not install properly, thermal grease applied wrongly
    2. Power supply does not have enough power
    Check both of them.
Your power supply is very weak for today's system. Please consider an upgrade. But don't blindly go for the bigger numbers -- 450W, 550W, survey more to know about the quality of the power supply, especially the +3.3V and +5V rails, which both should supply similar amount of current, ie +3.3V @ 35A, +5V @ 36A for a good 400W. For more insurance, go for the well known brand. But usually they cost more.
