    Ok. Just noticed the banner on this page that says the NNTP server is currently unavailable. It must have gone down again after Kim's post. Hmm...I know Novell doesn't have garbage ads on their web site, but so many web sites do have "banner ads" that I just naturally ignore those anymore. This "notice" looked too much like an ad and I just didn't see it at first.

  • First, thank you in advance for your patience.  Is there someplace I can go to learn about how Creative Cloud may be used with BlackBoard?

    I am interested in what I might accomplish via PDF documents uploaded to BlackBoard.  I have tried other products, and they are unstable to the point of being frustrating.  I want to know what can I put in to a self-contained PDF for my students.  I love what I see in Creative Cloud.  Before I invest, is it even possible to do what I am describing?

    I haven't used Blackboard products myself so can't really speak to how well they work with Adobe products or products included with a Creative Cloud membership. These are the Blackboard products you're referencing right?

    As far as the capabilities of a self contained PDF, I believe you can create interactive PDF files with some of the following features InDesign Help | Dynamic PDF documents
    If you had some specific question I'd recommend posting them here: Rich Media & 3D
    Another Adobe product that came to mind in relation to your question is Captivate, probably as part of the Technical Communications Suite (different offering than Creative Cloud)  - Author, Enrich & Publish XML/DITA content| Technical Communication Suite 5
    I'm not sure how these would integrate with Blackboard, so you might have to investigate further from their side too.

    Web interface (HPLIP installed on ubuntu 11.10, but problem is linked to web config.) 
    "The device could not send the test e-mail message. (EmailAccounts-timeout)" when going through the full setup, and "The device could not send the test e-mail message." when testing the account after creating it from the "Outgoing Email Profiles" tab. 
    No changes.
    I can't cofigure the printer to send emails out using the email adress we have created exclusively for it with our domain name in Google Apps for your domain. The settings test ok for the email alerts. 
    I'm using these settings: 
    Server: smtp.google.com
    Port: 587 (also tried 465)
    username: [email protected]
    good password, copied and pasted to make sure there are no typo's.

    I made two posts to this forum saying the identical thing, one thing I found is that the responders don't seem to read the entire post. 
    My problem was my desktop would not load, I would get as far as the log in screen, enter my password, and the screen was blank, and remained blank.  I was able, by pressing escape, during the inital boot, to get to the diagnostic section and run some tests.  The results gave me a failure id code regarding a battery failure.
    The responses were puzzling asking me to plug in a usb keyboard and what not, to attempt to type into a blank screen.   Obviously this is not possible, all that has to be done to realize this is to read what my problem was.
    My battery pack, does not charge.  I need a new one.  But is that the reason why my desktop does not load??  If I remove the battery and run on AC power, the results are no different.  So my conclusion is these problems are unrelated.
    So before I decided to take this computer in for repair, I did a system recovery, and I now have my desktop back.
    Not once was this solution offered by anybody.
    I know this sounds like I am unpleased with the help offered, but I am also offering this as a solution to anybody who might be having this problem.
    I was able to remove the hard drive and connect it via usb to a different computer and salvage photos, music and other files, so all in all things are good, thanks in large part to my own thinking. 
    I do appreciate this forum being here, but this was more frustrating and the responses really had me scratching my head.

  • How do you determine the picture that is shown on iTunes for your podcast?

    How do you determine the picture that is shown on iTunes for your podcast? Is that done in iWeb or Garagetunes?

    That is a supported format,
    Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min,
    see if the problem is fixed,
    If not we may have to reload the device OS to get back the missing option.

  • Undocumented fixes in Leopard - for your info

    As long time Mac users will know, Apple's notes as to what things are fixed in their software updates are skimpy to say the least. (I remember when new updates came with a 'Tech Note' that pretty much listed every fix.)
    Two fixes that I have found that as usual are not documented are as follows.
    1. In Mac OS X 10.4.11 and earlier versions, it was possible to set the 'Date & Time' system preference to automatically sync the Mac's clock to a time server. However in the 'Security' system preference it was also possible to set 'require password to unlock each secure system preference'.
    This resulted in the correct behaviour that the preference could not be altered (without an admin password) and the incorrect behaviour in that the Mac would not synchronise its clock at bootup. It would only synchronise its clock when you specifically unlocked the 'Time & Date' preference pane.
    This is now fixed in Mac OS X 10.5.x in that the Mac does automatically set the clock at bootup (even with the security setting) but altering the preference correctly still requires an admin password.
    2. In Mac OS X 10.5.1 the iTunes artwork screensaver displayed album art with a terrible purplish colour distortion.
    This is now fixed in Mac OS 10.5.2 (or the accompanying Leopard Graphics update), the artwork now shows with the correct original colours.

    Hi Spotify, when i want to listen a song in my music i have to search it manually. If i not remember de name (of the song, or artist) very well, the search bar allow me it to find it faster.  Ur search bar now only allow me to search the song in the universe, but have another one just for my songs, its gonna be awesome.

    I am getting the following intermittent error "err connection limited reached for your ip address" since this morning. It must have something to do with changing to the SSL ports. This applies to this account and my sub-accounts.

    The Windows User Account Control message may look like this.

    The solution will vary depending on the products that you are using. Here is a helpful document for HP printers that will walk you through what you can do.

  • Is the iCloud a backup tool for your computer?  How do I get my data back -- off the iCloud?

    Is the iCloud a backup tool for your computer?  ---- Apple care suggested using iCloud for a backup to my documents.  I do not have an iphone, ipad or laptop.  Just an iMac.  Nothing to share the data with.
    Now I am unable to access some of my documents on my computer and saving documents is cumbersome because it always wants to save it in iCloud, not my computer.  The documents I am unable to open are my old MS-Word.  One is a macro enabled word doc.   I am using os x mountain lion.
    After over an hour chat with apple care, the issue is not resolved.  I did not have more time to resolve the issue today and it will be continued next week.  Per apple care, I do not have any documents in the iCloud however I am almost at the free capacity with  contacts and documents.
    My question is -- If I purchase backup from a clould provider - other than apple, back up my files in documents in their cloud (make sure I can open them) and then delete the link to iCloud.  Would I preserve my data? Has anyone tried this?  I am open to suggestions.

    Not really. You can store "Documents in the Cloud" but this applies only to documents created by Pages, Numbers, Preview, Keynote, and Microsoft Office documents created on your computer stored in iCloud's "iWork". Within that limited purpose, iCloud works very well.

    I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "purchase backup from a cloud provider" but if you're considering a service such as Carbonite, I don't advocate any of them. To back up your Mac, use your own backup device - Time Capsule or an external hard disk. It's inexpensive and reliable: two elements essential for a backup strategy, that no subscription service can offer.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
    On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
    You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
    I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.
