Lack of broadband connection with Extra Box

Hi all Requiring some technical assistance/advice really. I have recently had installed Youview box and BT HomeHub 5 in our lounge as Infinity has finally reached our area. All is fine. My old Sky+ box in the kitchen stopped working over the weekend, so I thought I could purchase a Youview Extra Box to replace it, as I am quite happy with Youview. However, there is no hub in the kitchen (it's in the lounge), so I can't plug Ethernet cable in. Wi-fi won't stretch that far. I can't feasibly run a cable from lounge to kitchen as it's too far and would be very unsightly. I looked at the various plug-in BT Home Hotspot kits, but they imply that you need to be on the same ring main/electrical circuit to work - which I don't believe my kitchen & lounge are (separate fuseboxes) So, in a nutshell, what can I do? If I simply connect the extra Youview box to the TV in the kitchen then I can still use the record, live pause and playback features without being connected to the internet? I am happy to forego the connectivity features eg iPlayer, film libraries etc on this set. Or is the Youview simply defunct if you don't connect to a Hub? Help gratefully received!

Powerline adapter and similar devices, communicate over your mains wiring using radio frequencies.
These frequencies will not pass through your electricity meter to the external electricity distribution network.
As both your feeds come from the same meter, it is possible that these types of adapters may work, with a reduced speed, depending on the lengths of the cables.
If you could borrow a pair to try, then I think it would be worthwhile. Some types may work better than others.
I have a pair of TP-Link ones feeding a wireless access point in the garage at the end of the garden, and that is on a separate fuse box.
These are TP-Link TL-PA211KIT AV200 Nano 200Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack

  • Lack of Broadband Connection

I have had problems with my broadband connection for over a week now.
I have rung BT on two occasions and spent up to 45 mins and 30 mins respectively and been passed around all the departments as no-one appears to have any idea what is the problem.
When I complained on line, miraculously it was found to be a fault with my broadband, and I have been advised that I will be called to sort out - to be fair this did happen the first time, but was not in the timescale indicated so I was not available.
I was then advised I would be called again, I wasn't, but the email reply assured me that I had been - as I have missed call facilities on both the telephone numbers I gave, I know this to be incorrect on the part of the complaints team.
I did call back as requested, but was put on hold and after waiting ten mintues, I hung up - NB I have a young baby and cannot spend time after time on the phone instead of looking after him.
To date, I have no broadband connection and no further contact from the Complaints Team.  Suffice to say, I don't feel in the slightest bit valued by BT and you can be assured I will not be paying my broadband bill for this month when a company of BT's magnitude cannot even send an engineer our or similar to resolve
    Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

  • Broadband connection with one static ip

    Hello Everyone!!
I would like to seek your kind suggestion in mapping static ip address to the local ip address.
We have a bsnl broadband connection, and bsnl has provided us with one static ip address.
    We are using  broadband modem.
Now I would liket to map this static ip address to one of the private ip address which is 192.168.1.2(database server).
i want to do nat above ips if i do so then i dont have no ip to assign to my outside interface.
I would like to access this device over internet, by typing my public (Static ip ) given by the BSNL.
Kindly let me know how should i configure this modem.
security device i have is cisco ASA 5505.
    Need suggestion.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I am afraid that if you are asking for guide to configuring your broadband modem then this is probably not the best section of the Cisco Support Community to do that.
Generall though it would be best if the modem you have was configured as Bridged device and the public IP address was configured on the ASA5505 directly on its "outside" interface. This saves you from a lot of trouble playing with possible NAT configurations on 2 devices.
On the ASA5505 you will basicly be configuring Static PAT and NOT Static NAT.
Static NAT would bind the public IP address to the use of only single internal host.
Static PAT on the other hand would bind certain TCP/UDP ports to some internal host.
So naturally we should first determine which ports you need to forward to the internal host and also what the software level of your ASA5505 is so we know which NAT configuration format to use (version number is shown with the command "show version" or in the  main view of the ASDM)
NAT/ACL 8.2 (and older) Configuration format
    static (inside,outside) tcp interface 80 192.168.1.2 80 netmask 255.255.255.255
access-list OUTSIDE-IN permit tcp any interface outside eq 80
    access-group OUTSIDE-IN in interface outside
In the above configuration we first use the "static" command to configure the Static PAT. The configuration basicly states that we want to forward the TCP/80 port using the "outside" "interface" IP address to the local IP address of 192.168.1.2 and local port of TCP/80.
Finally we make an ACL that allows TCP/80 traffic from anywhere and we attach the ACL to the "outside" interface with "access-group" command. If there is an existing ACL attached to the "outside" interface then you would naturally use that.
NAT/ACL 8.3 (and newer) Configuration Format
    object network SERVER-WWW
    host 192.168.1.2
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 80 80
    access-list OUTSIDE-IN permit tcp any object SERVER-WWW eq 80
    access-group OUTSIDE-IN in interface outside
The above basicly does the same as the first example with the older ASA software. There are just noticiable changes in the NAT and ACL configuration formats.
    Hope this helps

  • Booted off Broadband connection with new WRT54g Wireless Router

I recently moved to a new place with Comcast Broadband.  My boyfriend and I both want to access the Internet so we got a Linksys Wireless Router to connect our computers to the broadband connection.  It's not going very well, however, because almost daily we are booted off the Internet.  I called Comcast and they said the Modem is working fine, which just leaves the Router.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Patricia

How did Comcast determined that your modem is working fine? When you are connected directly to modem , do you have the same problem? because if you do, then it would have the same problem with the router, no matter what you do with the router. Try isolating problem by checking if the connection would drop when you are connected directly to modem.
If through isolation process you found out that modem is stable, there might be a problem with router itself or that the router isn't properly configured, is your computer wired or wireless? how about your boyfriend's?

  • HT1595 BT Home Hub1 drops broadband connection with Apple TV 3

    Hi.
Just got Apple TV3 home and set up which was easy to start, but as soon as I try to homeshare my BT broadband connection drops and needs reset - using home hub 1. Is there a settings fix or is a new router the only option?
    Thanks,
    Col.

    Hi.
Have checked my firmware which is up to date and have also disabled my firewall to check if it was creating problems but no change. BT channel change not helped yet but could take 12 hours to activate. Broadband works perfectly until I attempt to open any Apple TV application then it drops. Also I mistakenly quoted I have Home Hub 1 but I actually have HH2. Channel change might help but tbh I don't hold out much hope.

  • Mac Mini loses file sharing connection with Win boxes

I replaced my 2008 vintage Mac Mini with a late 2012 vintage Mac Mini for use as a file server. The files are on an external USB drive that was in use on the earlier box. When I try to stream a movie, or copy files to any of five Win7 or WinXP boxes, the connection is lost after a few minutes. Also, I can rarely open or save directly to the MAC using any application on the Win box. I have to copy the file to the local machine, then copy the modified file back to the Mac. This all worked fine with the Snow Leopard box, but seems to have quit working with Mountain Lion. All of this works on the Mountain Lion box when I use my Mac Air to connect. The Mac external drive is mounted under my Mac account, and the Win boxes have the Mac as a mounted drive using that same account.
Any ideas how to fix this?

A NAS should work. A proper file server will cache active files in memory. So it's not obvious use of SSD storage will speed your service. In any case figure out how to back it up and most important how you will recover after a disaster requiring full recovery.

You can use any internet service - assuming you mean that you have Verizon broadband service at home and you have a home WiFi network set up.

  • How To make/configure  Broadband connection in Sun java desktop system

    Hi all,
I am using sun java desktop system Release 3 solaris 10 version in my sun ultra workstation. I have a problem with it. I can not make broadband connection , in it. so pls let me know how can i make broadband connection with my ADSL modem ?
    Thanks
    Partha

    Try this:
Log into a termina as rootl. (Select failsafe terminal or command login)
To get the name of your network interface driver, type:
    /usr/sbin/ifconfig -a You'll see something like this:
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
    hme0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
    inet 129.156.226.245 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 129.156.226.255
In my case it is hme0 so I create a file called /etc/dhcp.hme0:
touch /etc/dhcp.hme0If you want to set a hostname, put it in a file called /etc/hostname.hme0 for example:
    rm /etc/hostname.hme0
echo myhostname > /etc/hostname.hme0Most broadband providers preconfigure ADSL modems to default to DHCP so if you do this, connect the ultra 10 to the broadband modem and reboot, the ultra 10 should pick up an IP address and be connected to the internet.

  • How to share internet connection with 8gig Ipod touch

Hi all, I'm about to buy a 8gig touch tommorow and would like to know before I buy it, How can I share my HSDPA Three broadband connection with the Touch? the Connection is a usb dongle on the desktop, I've got a usb wifi dongle plugged into the desktop aswell, i havent a clue how to set it up tho, why I want to know is, so I can listern to shoutcast radio stations on the touch upstairs in bed without having to stay downstairs near the dessktop. is it possible to do and if it is how ? cheers

Your touch can connect to your wireless network via WiFi. How your network is setup makes all of the difference on whether or not you can connect, however.
If your desktop is connected via Ethernet (even with a USB adaptor) you may be able to use the desktop as an ad hoc wireless network. This is possible on Macs ad Vista machines, not sure on XP.
Your best bet is a wireless router, however. They generally have more range than an ad hoc setup and have additional benefits such as a firewall and network security. You would connect your broadband connection to your wireless router and then all of your devices, wired or wireless would connect through your router.

iPad requires Wifi (or 3G /LTE) to connect to the Internet. You cannot connect a USB modem to the iPad.
You can create your own WiFi hotspot through your computer for your iPad to connect to, if your computer supports this functionality. All Wifi Macs and many Wifi PCs do. Check your computer manual for how to do it.

  • Two ACS4.0 box using win- can connect with cross over cable

    Hi
we have 2 ACS4.0 box, internal replication is happening between ACS1(prim) to ACS2(sec) but not ACS2 to ACS1 why?
Also I need 1 suggesion, whether we can connect 2 ACS boxes through cross cable for sync.
At present it is connected with 2 diff cores(ACS1 to core 1 & ACS2 to core2) and cores are interconnected.
    What is the normal practice.
    Regards
    Naga

    Hi Naga,
The purpose of Replication in ACS is for the Primary Server to overwrite the secondary server's settings that you have chosen.
This is by design Replication is meant to be one way and not bi-directional.
The Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine supports the operation of only one Ethernet connector at a time. Concurrent operation of both Ethernet connectors is not supported."
To get redundancy with any ACS - you need replication setup with TWO ACS, it is not
possible to setup a NIC failover in the same chasis.

  • Slow Broadband connection (not having to do with ISP)

My LAN connection is slower than should be and I'm SURE it is not ISP related
because when I tried to connect with a laptop PC the connection speed was almost double the one I had on the Mac.
I've heard about broadband tuner but I'm not running 10.4 Tiger so cannot use that also I'm not sure that may serve my problem well.
I can tell you that one thing I noticed is that right after starting the computer when I try to download something the connection speed starts at the normal level (around 600Kbit) and then slows down dramatically). Then if I try downloading something else the download speed is the same slow one I got to after the initial download (hope this makes sense). If not, I'll try to be more clear in my new post.
    Please help.

I've been having a really similar problem... the problem for me is that connecting to the internet not only slows down the internet connection, it makes my whole computer really sluggish. Programs take forever to open, and I get the multi-colored spinning wheel of death for minutes at a time. I've tested it, and my connection is very fast with my PC laptop, and my iMac is fine opening programs until I plug in the ethernet cable.
Once I do connect to the internet, it usually takes about 15-30 seconds to open the main page of a website, but then I can navigate different links on that website at normal speed. However, if I switch to a totally different website, it's back to taking forever to open.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm running 10.3.9 on an iMac. Any help would be appreciated... this connection speed is absolutely killing me!
