Lack of settings in Z10

Anybody else disappointed with the lack of settings on the Z10 vs the Bold?
For instance you can not set the number of vibrates when you have a notification
When you plug in your phone to a charger you can not set it up to go into Bedside Mode
and a few other little things that I really liked about the OS7
unless I'm not doing something right, can someone tell me how?
Thanks

Old news, there are many posts here about this already.
The Notification granularity from prior BBoSes is not yet available in profiles.... yet.
We are all hoping that these will be added into the OS in newer OS versions.
Bedside mode is enabled by pulling down the "shade" (swipe down from the top) on the lock screen, or by going into the alarm and pulling down the top menu.

  • Lack of settings for photo slideshows

I've got to the stage of extreme frustration now trying to change the way that Front Row displays photos from iPhoto events (basically any photos in iPhoto).
When I use the remote to envoke Front Row, select photos and select an event, Front row uses Ken Burns and a cube transition set to about 1 second delay. Frankly the whole experience makes me a little sea sick. I've looked at the settings accessed by the remote but there's nothing there. I've applied some slideshow settings to the event and played it in iPhoto and it works fine...it just doesn't uses these settings when the event is played in Front Row.
However, if I set up an actual slideshow in iPhoto the settings are carried over to Front Row.
This is extremely frustrating as it means that I can't simply trawl through my photo collection at random, sans Ken Burns, cube settings and a general feeling of nausea . I have to set up a bespoke slideshow each time I want to view photos in Front Row. Clearly the settings can be carried over, it just seems that Apple haven't got around to providing access to custom settings for Events....or am I missing something.
    Any thoughts?
    Regards Mr B

I'm running iLife '09 and I have noticed that with photos/Events...
However, if I create an Album, I can assign custom music, themes or no theme like Ken Burns, the duration of the photo and several other settings.
Try creating an album with all the settings you prefer and then open up Front Row.
Mine works just fine for albums.

  • Quicktime 10...lack of settings/preferences

Are there any sort of settings or preferences that can be changed in Quicktime 10?
Specifically, I miss some of the features of the old Quicktime such as how it would automatically mute any videos playing behind the one in the window currently selected and that when full screen mode was entered (using command + F), the movie would start playing automatically.
Also, whenever I scan through a movie by clicking, the movie will pause unless my curser is at a very specific point. This is really annoying and I don't know why Apple chose to introduce this feature.
Is there any way to modify these settings?

    Ciao,
I downloaded the QT 7.6.4 from apple, but when it started the installation process it gave me a message that qt 7 and qt 10 cannot be installed together.
no other option was given and no another disk was available for the installation.
I do have qt pro key and cannot use it with qt 10.

  • Z10 options are less than 9860

Hi just upgraded handset from Blackberry 9860 to Z10. I loved the 9860 but eventually two of the buttons stopped working. One of the most noticeable things about the Z10 compared to 9860 is there seems to be a lot less 'options' on the Z10 for each facility. The 9860 had many more option settings but the 'Settings' in Z10 are limited. One of the things I miss most is the Reduced keyboard layout feature for portrait virtual touchscreen keyboard which had 2 letters on each key. It made texting much easier. The Z10 doesn't have this option. Also, can you change the functionality of the side button key (currently for voice) and change it to e.g. camera? - and also can you change the home screen notifications so that as well as telling you there is a new sms text message,  it also tells you who it's from without having to swipe right into the hub every time you want to read the text? For example each contact could have coloured notifications or symbols that are easily recognised?

The volume keys will activate the Camera.
    Disclaimer:
I know a little about lots of things,
yet not a great lot about those little-things.
    Ultimately, I'm here to learn.

Does this driver improve sound quality or performance Are there any tweaks ?
No, this driver does not improve sound quality nor increase performance.
    No, there are no tweaks.
If someone states that its driver improves sound quality and performance, you are being fooled, cheated.
It is even worse that the so called tweaks come from a person who is not EVEN technically acknowledged, does NOT know anything about Windows internals, software engineering and sound fidelity that all audiophiles always look for.
If you "feel" the sound better, that is the infamous placebo effect and there is no real proof that any tweaks work.
In fact, I have yet to see a driver that states in its release notes that it improves sound quality.
I've disassembled about every single .SYS driver, .DLL libraries and .EXE executables and found nothing.
There are some undocumented registry values, but nothing related to sound quality or performance.
Would the so called tweaks even exist, they would be in my Support Packs, you can bet that.
    Fixes and improvements:
    - Fixed Audigy 5/RX support.
    - Readded "EndPoint Utility" to enable the use of other digital devices to output Dolby Digital Live encoded audio.
    - Fixed driver installation issues on Windows 10.
    - Fixed Audigy "1" or Audigy 2 mute issue.
    - Audigy RX is now fully supported.
    - EAX Console now works on Windows Vista or later.
    - Karaoke effects now work properly on Windows Vista or later, just use EAX Console to enable them. Effects will only be applied to the Microphone input.
    - Sound Blaster Audigy Control Panel now available for all cards, but it lacks many settings available on Audio Console, so use the later.
    - Added instructions on how to install the Gameport.
    - Fixed missing speaker settings strings on Windows XP when DDL is enabled.
    - Improved driver installation, less confirmation prompts.
    - Improved setup procedure and scripts.
    - Removed Encode switcher for now, only DDL is available.
    - Installation now customizable, select what you want to install.
    - New integrated Post Driver Install Helper tweaks the driver without tampering certificate.
    - CMSS2 is now available.
    - OpenAL 64-bit support.
    - Dolby Digital Live now works on Windows 8.1 (update 1). Creative Audio Service was not being installed on that OS.
    - Special FX, Advanced EQ, Studio and Custom presets now available on Windows Vista or later.
    - Audio Console does not crash anymore on non-English localized installs. Localized resources for Online Karaoke tab were missing; added mostly localized Korean and Chinese (Traditional) resources.
    - Online Karaoke page is available for all Audigy cards on Windows Vista or later; this is NOT a new feature, but an easier way to configure the Microphone.
    - EAX Settings for Windows Vista or later includes EAX Studio, a fancy version of EAX Control Panel, no changes in functionality, except the Test button now works.
    - Added fully localized Korean and Chinese (Traditional) resources for EAX Studio, which were missing.
Undocumented fixes by Creative (not listed in the release notes):
    - Headphone mode now sticks and does not revert automatically to Speakers mode on Windows Vista or later.
    - Special FX, Advanced EQ and Studio presets were not working on Windows Vista or later.
    Release Notes:
IMPORTANT: Driver uninstall on Windows Vista or later
The included driver for Windows Vista or later has a bug that causes a stop (blue screen) error when unloaded by disabling the Audigy or uninstalling the driver.
To workaround this issue, run the KillDrv.exe utility included and restart when asked to do so. Proceed normally and uninstall all the software or only the driver.
If you have previously installed the Audigy 5/RX driver, you MUST run this utility.
As the KillDrv verify the driver version installed, running it won't do any harm, even if the driver version is not affected.
HOW TO INSTALL THE GAMEPORT DRIVER
You can find a Gameport\ReadMe.htm file in the folder where you unpacked the Support Pack.
Just follow the steps shown in the screenshots.
WINDOWS 8.1 OR LATER DOES NOT SAVE SETTINGS
    - Configure all settings and shutdown. Your settings will be saved.
    - This does not work if you disable Fast startup permanently or temporarily (by holding the Shift key while shutting down).
    - On Windows 10 you need to run the application with Administrator privileges (right-click and choose Run as Administrator). This is valid for all applications used to configure the card.
OpenAL 2D benchmark in RightMark 3DSound crashes your system
The included driver for Windows Vista or later has a bug that crashes your system if you run the OpenAL 2D benchmark using 63 buffers.
No problem With 62 or fewer buffers.
OpenAL 3D and OpenAL 3D + EAX benchmarks are not affected.

There is no DirectSound hardware acceleration on Windows XP 64-bit (x64) with 4GB RAM or more
The Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, disabling the DirectSound hardware acceleration and causing multichannel sound to be played only in the stereo channels (front left/right).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows XP.
    - limit to less than 4GB the amount of RAM available to Windows.
    - enable the "Memory Hole" setting in the BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports it.
    - install and use Creative ALchemy to convert the DirectSound API calls into OpenAL, which is not affected by this issue.
Karaoke effects make the audio play in mono
You can avoid this issue by using EAX Console to enable Karaoke effects. Audio Console is affected by the issue.
    Optionally, follow the steps below.
Open EAX Settings, select a Karaoke effect, then click the Edit button.
Click on the Source (Wave) tab and change the Original sound to 100% and Pitch Shift to 0%. Click the Save environment button.
Repeat the steps for all Karaoke effects.
These changes will be valid only for the current speaker configuration. If desired, repeat the same process for each speaker configuration.
    MediaSource DVD-Audio Player system requirements
    - 32-bit edition of Windows XP or later
    - any Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 4 card
Built-in Decoder on Windows Vista or later
To use the built-in decoder, make sure it is enabled in Audio Console.
Select "SPDIF Out (Creative SB Audigy (WDM))" as the output device of your player and then configure the AC3/DTS filter to send the stream through SPDIF.
When you restart your computer, the Tone settings (Bass and Treble) are not applied.
Just readjust one of the controls one time per boot.
Equalizer and EAX effects are not available when using OpenAL or ALchemy
Only Tone (Bass and Treble) and CMSS 3D (CMSS, CMSS2 and Stereo Surround) features are available.
There is no sound in games with OpenAL support
Disable Advanced EQ and Special FX by selecting "No effect" before running the game or program.
Equalizer settings are not applied after using OpenAL or ALchemy
After you run a game with OpenAL support or using Creative ALchemy, the Equalizer settings are applied.
Just run Equalizer and the saved setting is loaded automatically.
Tone settings are lost when speaker configuration is changed
Bass and treble settings reset to their default values when speaker configuration is changed.

I cant think of any other device running. When I untick the Enable Dolby Digital Live I can get stereo sound again. The DDL is authenticated. The cable is working. The amp is fine. I neeeeed help....
Unfortunately I don't have a sample card to test personally and don't know anyone with an Audigy 5/RX.
    Anyway, I have a suggestion.
Run EndPtUtl.exe found in the Audio Console installation folder.
If the issue still persists, try to use the Digital Output (Coaxial/Optical) of another device, provided that you have any on your computer.
EndPtUtl.exe enables the use of any device for outputting encoded audio.

    Karaoke Player
You can use hardware or software-based Microphone effects.
If you select an effect in the Karaoke Player itself, it will be software-based and you might experience delays or increased CPU utilization.
If you enable the Karaoke effect in the EAX Console, it will be hardware-based (using the Audigy DSP) with no delay and not relying in the system's CPU. Highly recommended.
I did not make any extensive tests, so please try the software-based Microphone effects and share your experiences.

  • WIFI Packet Loss/Jitter MacBook Air 11 & LION OSX 10.7.1

I started using computers more than 30 years ago when I was 5, I had my first IBM PC at the age of 10 and have never had any interest in paying over the odds for an Apple mac mainly because I saw the Mac as a kind of "Can't open nothing", one mouse buttoned retard of the computer world.
    That is, until now.
I set up an online business 3 years ago and rented a dedicated server and set the whole business up in a cloud, so to speak. Having done that, all I needed a laptop for was a remote desktop connection and to run a SIP phone (Internet phone).
My PC based laptops had almost nothing installed on them, and I wasn't using software on the laptop itself, I was using remote desktop, so - why not try a MAC? The new Macbook Air 11 is small, light and made of metal and glass so should be robust enough to travel with me.
I have to say, this was the worst move I've ever made.
I opened the new shiny macbook and the first thing I noticed was that the internet seemed hit and miss. Moving around the room I managed to find a spot whereby pages woud load quickly. Strange, my £200 acer laptop was sh.t fast everywhere in the house. No matter, I packed it back away and carried on working on the Windows machine.
I've come to Newquay this week, and i've started to try and use the Macbook again in a hotel. The wireless signal in the room is low, and speedtest shows about 1 meg down and 3/4 meg up. That may sound bad to you, but remote desktop uses about 5k/sec (modem dial up speed) and the softphone, well, my Asterisk VOIP setup is confugured to use the GSM codec so that's 8k/sec each way + overheads.
This whole setup was deliberately designed to be "thin" so I can travel with ease and work on bad connections like USB internet sticks.
Anyhow, the Macbook was unable to hold a stable connection to the remote desktop or SIP phone, even though the speed test showed a whopping 1 meg up and down. What you may not be aware of is that there is more to a connection than the speed, there is the quality as well. How many packets are lost / how much "jitter" is on the line.
Anyhow, we're not living in the 3rd world, I ran a PINGTEST and it showed a small amount of jitter but told me the line was class B, online games may suffer but voip should be fine.
I unpacked the Acer, placed it in exactly the same spot as the Apple had sat in and it worked beautifully with 1 bar of wireless signal, all day long. Phone calls were clear.
So you know now what I'm thinking. I'm sitting here with my £200 acer because I can't use the £1500 macbook air 11. I paid nearly sixteen hundred pounds for this piece of .... and it doesn't ...... work. Time to contact Apple support.
    2nd Mistake!
Representitive 1: - Told me that I can't compare the Macbook Air to the Acer, the Acer has Google Chrome and everybody knows Google Chrome is the fastest browser. I was told there was nothing more he could do, its probably a bad line at the hotel. When I explained the Acer works fine for voip I was told well, maybe it is getting a better signal. I explained the Acer has the cheapest possible parts inside it and paid 1500 for this macbook, expecting it to have quality parts inside and was told I'd paid for the size, because its so small but its not considered "powerful". Apple do you train your staff? Clearly not.
Thank god I wasn't paying to talk to this moron.
Representitive 2: - Had no idea what packet loss or Jitter was, got me to do a speedtest and said that looks fine. Then he got me to remove the WIFI adapter and re add it in the network settings.
Guess what, nothing changed, its still the same hardware and software.
Representitive 3: - Still not really understanding "quality" issues with the networking interface, I was asked to install the latest Java client. I did it, only because I wanted to comply with Apples wishes so they'd help me, but they weren't helping and Java has nothing to do with the network adapter, so that was useless advice too.
Apple seem to have no idea there is a problem, even though Google has pages and pages of people saying the same as me, and their own discussion forums have thousands of people complaining https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2664670?start=0&tstart=0
Finally, late yesterday whilst speaking to d.ck head number 3 at Apple support, we found a forum post talking about a fix, 10.7.1 update. I told d. head number 3 about the update and he suggested I applied it. So I did and everything looked great, for a whole evening.
This morning, I switched on again and the same thing, slow remote desktop, choppy unusable phone. Remember the phone needs less than 20k for a conversation, thats 0.2 meg. Speedtest again showing a whole meg both ways.
I called apple support again, this time being a little forceful, and I've asked for this to be escalated, but the bottom line is - they have no fix, they don't aknowledge this as a problem and I was told LION is new, so maybe it's got a bug..
I told the guy on the phone this is a network driver issue, the intermittency of the problem shows that and the Apple's lack of settings for the network adapter means the unit is autonegotiating with the router and choosing speed and duplex settings on its own. Sometimes it does that correctly, other times not and the connection although fast has a lot of noise / packet loss / corruption.
I've found a workaround, you put the unit to sleep and wake it up again and it runs fast until the next shutdown. Not really acceptable seeing as I was paying for "the cream of the crop".
I will definately not be recommending Apple products, and i'll certainly not be replacing the Windows laptops in my business with Apple's toytown system- i'd go out of business if I had to rely on this.
All there is left now, is to look at Boot camp and see if I can wipe this waste of space linux hack from the unit and install Windows 7.

  • Occasional Buffering on HTTP LivePackager Streams

    Hi -
I'm encountering a sporadic buffering event when playing LivePackager-based streams.  The buffering is very short (<1 sec), and seems to happen at random points during the view.  From the player's perspective this manifests as a slight stutter, but it is noticable.
There's hardly a pattern to it, sometimes it will occur several times in a minute, and other times I will get several minutes of uninterupted playback before it happens.
I do not see the problem when playing pre-packaged,  On-Demand files. Only Live content.  I see this issue in both our custom  video player (which we've set up to give a trace when the buffering occurs), and the "vanilla" OSMF player, so I suspect it is some  sort of setup problem.
I have seen the problem on both multibitrate and single bitrate streams, and with a variety of encoders (FMLE, digital rapids, inlet).  I don't think it's an encoder issue (for example, FMLE shows no drops of any kind)
Looking at disk/memory/network usage on the server shows nothing utilized above 30%, so I don't think it is a hardware issue.
    1.  Are there any settings (or lack of settings) that are known to cause this behaviour?
    2.  Are there any "known, good" Livepackager HTTP streams that I can test against to isolate if this is an issue with our setup or a broader Livepackager bug?
    Thanks,
    -bryan

  • Basler acA2500 not loading correctly into Vision

I have a acA2500-14uc Basler Ace USB3.0 that I'm using along with PXI-8135 controller. The camera works correctly in pylon viewer, but Vision assistant only lets me select 'Basler Generic' which only does monochrome and lacks many settings.
Before I updated vision through the internet, it was working correctly.

Before I saw your message, I uninstalled the camera from the Device Manager (which was identifying as a Basler Camera), and unistalled the pylon software. I replugged the camera back in and it installed as a NI Vision USB3 device. I checked in MAX and it ID'd correctly as the acA2500-14uc and had all of the same settings and ranges as the Basler pylon options. It is also working correctly in Vision Assistant now.
Is there any advantages to installing the Basler software package and using the Basler ID drivers? If not, this seems ok and I'd rather not try to mess around with driver conflict problems. My intent is to really only use this camera within LabVIEW.

  • Possible to have black background iso white?

Just got my Nano-8GB and I'm very pleased with it.
One question however, especially for 'Cover Flow':
Is it possible to have a black background instead of white (so white text + pics on black)?
Next that its seems nicer with pictures (also better contrast) it also heavely reduces battery drain because 'white' requires more power'.
    With regards,
    EiSl

As with the post above mine, it is true that regardless of what color scheme is being used it will still use the same amount of power to light to screen. The actual setting of the brightness effects battery life though.
With this being my first ipod, and my first non-cd based mp3 player I have ever had, I was actually expecting a more customizable UI. Now I know this is no phone, but my phone allows me to select different color schemes and I can even use the computer to design new ones from scratch of literally any color combination I want. Also basically any phone that supports pictures lets you set pictures as wallpapers, where the photos on the ipod I cannot figure out if you can even do that. The photos are just there to look at if you go to the photo menu? Not really the most useful thing in the world there for me.
I'd also like the option to remove the giant grey music note taking up half the screen on the 'now playing' screen when I don't have any cover art. I am shocked by a extreme lack of settings, but I guess I was just expecting too much~!
Would be sweet to have some sort of theme manager in iTunes.

  • Issue with video

    Hello,
I have an iMac with MacOS 10.6.1 and iChat 5. When I receive an invitation for a videoconference, it works fine. But when I try to initiate a videoconference it fails: the other person receives my invitation, validates it, but the connection fails. Any idea?
    Many thanks.

    Welcome to the    Discussions
What sort of Modem or router do you have ?
It may be their end and a router or modem setting.
If they call out it often ignores and Firewall or lack of settings where as not having ports open for Incoming stuff may block your Invite (or the process after the Visible invite)

  • Need advice in importing analog vinyl records

My wife has asked me to try to import a couple of her childhood Christmas albums into iTunes (so we can burn CDs). I have reasonably computer and audio savvy, but I can't seem to get a foothold to figure out how to approach this. I have read all posts here twice. I so far have not been able to record any audio on my computer..so first issue is not quality but just basic input.
Here is my background. I have an old turntable (with red and white RCA outputs). I don't have a pre-amp, but do have newer receiver with most all ouputs. For software, I have Garageband, Roxio Toast 5 (for OS 9), and Audacity. None of these have decent enough "help" functions, although I have read each several times.
I think my core issue might be wires, but not sure. I have tons of wires, including
    1) DAC100 Analog to Digital Video adapter, which works well with videos..but I can't find manual to help see if it can work with audio
    2) "Y adapter". One side has female RCAs of Y, R, and W. Other side has Yellow (video) and Black (audio) plug. This seems to plug into the computer OK. (I think this should work as well as imic)
Can someone point me to a good detailed instruction of how to get this to work? This should not be that hard.
    Thanks!! David

A new receiver very often does not have the correct pre-amp for old turntables.
    Did you verify this?
If your amplifier/receiver does not have a special connection for turntables, the audio might have lack of low frequencies.
This Wiki tells you more about the necessary RIAA equalization:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization
If your amplifier/receiver is OK for the job, the cable you described should work.
Select the input in System Preferences>Sound, fire up Audacity and you're ready to record.
Sounds simple, but you might encounter several problems.
Audacity isn't my first choice. It's a good fairly good sound editor, but lacks easy settings for recording an entire LP and splitting it in tracks.
My iMac doesn't have an audio input, so I've used an iMic to digitize my vinyl records. The accompanying software (Final Vinyl) makes it a lot easier (even has a setting for RIAA correction). I didn't use it though.
I used my old amplifier as the source for the iMic and used CD Spin Doctor (part of Toast 6 and 7) to record the LPs and split them into the correct tracks.
Unfortunately, there is no standard 'recipe'
