LAP to AP convert

I dont have any WLC right now in my office but I have ordered 2 nos. Yesterday I've got 5 cisco AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 Access point. I would like to convert them to AP.
How to do this.
Please help.

Hi,
For being able to convert the units from IOS to LWAPP if you have old model of access points like 1130,1220,1230 and so on with a supported radio you will need to use the conversion tool to be able to convert the units from IOS to LWAPP and download the LWAPP image for the unit.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
Now if you have the new model of access points like 1140,1250,1240, etc this APs can be converted from IOS to LWAPP without having to use the conversion tool and just do a normal IOS upgrade procedure but instead of using the IOS image you use an LWAPP image.
Here is the upgrade procedure to upgrade the IOS code of any of our Cisco APs in IOS mode, but remember that the only difference would be the image used for the specific model and if using it to convert the units from IOS to LWAPP we use the LWAPP image.
RECOMMENDED UPGRADE TROUGH CLI:
The following are the proper steps to do an IOS upgrade in a CLI/Telnet
session (This is the recommended upgrade):
1st: Use a TFTP server in the computer that you are going to use for the
upgrades. If you don't have one, get the free TFTP server in the following
link:
http://tftpd32.jounin.net
Note: Make sure that the computer and the APs are in the same subnet. For
example and AP in default settings will have IP: 10.0.0.1, so you need to
have the computer as IP 10.0.0.2, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
2nd: Download the IOS image from the Cisco.com Web site.
Note: Do not "unzip" the image.
3rd: Open the TFTP server (make sure that the TAR file's name of the IOS
image is shown as in the web site, because sometimes it gets renamed to
"Download .tar" and if that happens you need to rename it).  Browse the TAR
file and select it, then click ok.
4th: Telnet the unit, go to enable mode and enter the following command:
ap#archive download-sw /overwrite /force-reload tftp://IPAddress
of_the_tftp_server/name_of_the_IOS_image_you_downloaded
In this link, you must specify the extension, as an example:
ap#archive download-sw /overwrite /force-reload tftp://10.0.0.2/c1200-k9w7-tar.122-13.JA.tar
Note: The IOS image name is case sensitive, and it should be complete.

  • Lightweight and IOS AP?

I have been working with IOS based autonomous APs for a some time now. However, need to have following questions clarified regarding Lightweight models. I have few of these APs
    a. AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 (IOS ver. 12.3(8)
    b. AIR-LAP1242AG-P-K9 (IOS ver. 12.3(11)
I cannot seem to determine any difference between the two APs functionality as far as configuration options are considered. I understand that IOS autonomous APs do not connect to WLCs (by default).
    a. I am able to configure RADIUS on both
    b. I am able to configure SSIDs on both
    c. I am able to assign an IP to both the APs for management
    Questions then:
    1. Can Lighwieght AP work independantly of the wireless LAN controllers? The documentation says they cannot.
    2. Is it IOS dependant? i.e. can LAP be made to work like an autonomous AP using an appropriate IOS?
    3. If LAP works just as IOS AP then why does Cisco offers them under different product IDs
    Thanks.

    Hi Muhammad,
You have done your homework here :) Hopefully I can answer your questions.
    1. Can Lighwieght AP work independantly of the wireless LAN controllers? The documentation says they cannot.
The LWAPP AP (LAP) cannot operate independantly of the WLC
    2. Is it IOS dependant? i.e. can LAP be made to work like an autonomous AP using an appropriate IOS?
    Yes, an LAP can be converted to Autonomous.Have a look at this doc;
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
    3. If LAP works just as IOS AP then why does Cisco offers them under different product IDs
I think the difference is in ease of use and Installation only, seeing that the AP can be converted either way.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problem converting any AP to LAP - Cert not yet valid

All, I have a problem trying to convert APs to LAP.
    I have the following scenario:
    - 2 WLC 5508.
    - For the WLC the image is 7.0.220.0
    - 10 APs registered. 7 Cisco 1310 and 3 Cisco 1242.
    - Time on the WLC indicates is July 4th 2013 - 19:20:00
I have 5 more APs ( Cisco 1231G and Cisco 1310) all of them are Autonomous.
Im using the Cisco upgrade tool, which I already use to convert the first 10 APs, and I have over and over the same problem, no matter if I use the Cisco 1231 or the Cisco 1310. Once I run the upgrade tool, in the middle of the process I had the following error on the AP:

  • 1142 converted to LAP and VLANs

    Hi,
I just converted AP 1142 to LAP using the image "c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar".
The WLC is a 5500 with 2 NIC : one on 192.168.0/24, one on a specific vlan 10.20/16
The main management interface is on 192.168/24 but we defined as management the interface on the 10.20/16 network.
For the access points, we use ports on a native VLAN on 10.20/16 with other available VLANS which are used for the wlan networks
We have 1152 APs which work fine on this config but that needed to be registered on the 192.168/24 network, then we moved them in their VLAN 10/20/16 and they work fine.
We also have 1142 APs which have been upgraded to LAP. These AP do not work with our architecture.
They register correctly on the 192.168/24 network, but do not give access to the wlan VLANs. If they are moved in the 10.20/16 network, they don't register to the WLC (message : Timed out while waiting for ECHO repsonse from the AP). The AP do not get an IP.
is there a restriction with VALNs on these AP ? or is something false ?
    Thanks,
    Christophe

  • Convert from LAP to autonomous mode issue

I bought some after market 1242's for extended coverage in my warehouse. The current 1242's I have are all set up in autonomous mode.
When I console into the AP's I bought they are looking for a CAPWAP -Controller obviously from the previous environment. There is nothing on the AP or in the sh version showing LAP.

I cant seem to be able to reset these to where they aren't looking for the Controller. I can login with the default username and password Cisco/Cisco but I cant do an erase. I get the privileged command prompt but cant do erase star or a config t??? Is there something I'm missing here that I need to to?
So far these commands have worked::
    debug capwap console cli
    debug capwap client no-reload
So can I downgrade or go back to autonomous mode or do I have to reload an IOS again? I don't have a license so my options there are limited.
    Any ideas??? Thanks

    HI,
    As pe your post:
    System image file is "flash:/c1240-rcvk9w8-mx/c1240-rcvk9w8-mx
This is lightweight image. for this image you need controller.
If you want to use as autonomous AP. Then you must convert it to Autonomous mode.

  • Air-lap-1131-ag-e-k9 convert to autonomous not working

    Hi,
i have a air-lap01131-ag-e-k9 that was originally in lightweight mode and configured with a controller, but i am in the process of wanting to convert to autonomous mode, i am having issues with connectivity to the AP from my laptop.
i have followed numerous guides on this forum, i have successfully
    downloaded correct firmware
    renamed the firmware to .default
placed this in root of tftp server folder
connected laptop via console to view output
connected laptop via Ethernet to Ethernet port of AP
changed static ip on laptop to 10.0.0.2 set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 10.0.0.1
held reset button on AP when applying power and waiting for radio light to flash red
AP gets a IP address then of 10.0.0.1
But even though both laptop and AP are in the same subnet, i am unable to ping the AP from my laptop and it doesn't start the tftp process
I have disabled firewall etc, and tried with both crossover and straight through cable, it seems there is something missing at this last stage, i even tried on a second laptop but that would not ping either, am i missing something.
i acquired the AP for training purposes to help with studies and so far i have learnt a lot of troubleshooting but i would really love to get past this, any help would be really appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Sam

  • AIR-SAP1602I After convert to LAP, No radio interface

    Hello,
Our AIR-SAP1602I is running ap1g2-k9w7-tar.152-4.JB6.tar and working normally.
Now, we covert AIR-SAP1602I from autonomous to lightweight which is running ap1g2-rcvk9w8-tar.152-4.JB6.tar to join C3850. (It will be joined then not-joined repeatedly)
After converting, we compare AIR-SAP1602I to another AIR-CAP1602I (It's working perfect with C3850 at this present) and find something strange via "show version" and "show capwap client rcb"
Can someone tell us how to solve this problems, thanks !!!

Can you test this with using full lightweight image (ap1g2-k9w8-tar.152-4.JB6.tar)  or different recovery image (ap1g2-rcvk9w8-tar.152-4.JB5.tar). to see the problem is persistent.

  • Converting LAP back to autonomous failed

I've a 1130 AP which doesn't boot it's LWAPP image from flash. So I tried to convert it back (with tftp server and so on) but after the message that it's using the "reset IP" it tries again to start the (corrupt?) image.
Is there a way to stop this boot cycles and to check boot parameter? Or any other ideas?

    Hi Guys,
Today, I have converted the Cisco LWAP (1140) to Autonomous AP successfully.
    Follow the below steps:
    1. Download your 1142 image from Cisco --- I chose c1140-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar (Autonomous IOS Image for LWAP 1142)
    2. Copy your 1142 image to your TFTP folder and start your TFTP server
    3. Hook up your console cable and open up PuTTY
    4. Plug in your 1142 into your POE/non-PoE (use Power Chord) switch.
    5. Create one DHCP Pool in 10.0.0.0/24 network and let the LWAP and Laptop takes the IP from that DHCP Pool.
    6. When it boots and your DHCP server gives it an IP address, you'll get a prompt (*your AP needs to get to your TFTP server)
Use PuTTY and enter in the commands in bold and modify the address of your TFTP server and image accordingly.
    APd0d0.fdae.aea4> enable
    Password: Cisco
APd0d0.fdae.aea4#debug lwapp client no-rel    ###### Very Important command
LWAPP ignore internal reload debugging is on
APd0d0.fdae.aea4#debug capwap console cli   ######## After giving the above one, this particular command will activate.
CAPWAP console CLI allow/disallow debugging is on
APd0d0.fdae.aea4# archive download-sw /overwrite /force-reload tftp://10.0.0.10/c1140-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar    ######## After giving the above command "debug capwap console cli" then the "ARCHIVE" command will activate
It starts upgrading the new IOS to the LWAP. After installing the IOS, reboot twice the AP and you can normally see the prompt “ap>”

  • Converting 1242AG LAP to autonomous

    Hi,
I have a second hand air-lap1242AG (basically aironet 1200series - configured to lightweight mode). I would like to configure it in a small business. We have a Linksys WAG354G (Wireless-G ADSL Gateway), which has 4 ethernet ports. It has a really small range. The problem is now, to connect those two. I tried already resetting the aironet(holding mode for 3 sec, also tried to rewrite the image-holding it for 20s), but when I look on my linksys DHCP-page, it still shows me the same client host name of the aironet, as when I first plugged it in. Its the name of the company, it belonged to, before us.
The error reported by the LEDs is - Alternating green, red , and amber, when you look here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6521/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008079b730.html
So I guess, since the DHCP is working fine - the IP adress is assigned, the only problem is, that the previous settings are still active - which means it doesnt allow to connect to the new router/controller.
What can I do about that? Converting to autonomous mode? I didnt try it, because it seems extremely complicated to me. Im not an IT-pro.
    Thanks a lot
Solved: Sorry for bothering, I thought I wont be able to do it. The explanation of the conversion is so stupid! I managed to do it through TFTP. First I was confused with the renaming, but I finally got it, that in the guide its only an example...
    bye

You need to download an IOS software and rename it to c1130-k9w7-tar.default... Just like what it states in the log.

  • WCS Alarm Status shows green but LAP is unplugged ?! Oper Staus shows Down

    Hello,
we are operating a Cisco WLAN environment with 1242 and 1131 LAP. Some of them have been converted from AP to LAP.
Now we took some LAP off the wall.
They are now packed in a box in our storage room.
But the WCS is showing a green Alarm Status for these LAP and as Oper Status Down.
    How can that be ?
Is there a way to fix this problem, because we want to see the Alarm Status in Red.
    Thx for all your input.
    Best Regards
    Christian

This is very interesting. If I try to put myself in the WCS developer's shoes, I think:
    - if you get an alarm for missing AP, then acknowledge the alarm, WCS has no reason to re-display the same alarm. This is precisely what Acknowledge is for, to say "don't bother me with this issue anymore".
    - Even if you manually remove the AP from WCS, it clearly keeps some memory of it, at least for a while. This is something you can clearly see if you run a report of any kind, WCS has to keep track of objects even if you remove them.
    My suggestion would be:
    - Unacknowledge the alarm, then delete it... acknowledging an alarm is probably not the best way to deal with removing an AP. You would use Aknowledge for alarms such as "your neighbour AP keep being detected as rogue, you can't remove your neighbour AP but don't want to hear about this warning anymore." You acknowledge the alarm, WCS keeps it in its database and remembers NOT to bother you with it anymore (exactly what happens in your case).
For an AP you remove, I would not acknowledge the alarm, but simply delete it after having removed the AP. This removes the alarm from the WCS database.
If you ever re-plug this AP to the network, WCS may remember it, but any new alarm about it will display.
    Hope it helps
    Jerome

Is it a bad thing to put my MacBook Air 13" directly on my bed not raised on a flat surface?
    Yes, yes, and Yes
Considerations for the long life of your Macbook Air. Handling and environmental care tips
Don’t use your MacBook Air on the beadspread or pillow
Do not place your MacBook on a pillow or other soft material when it's powered on, as the material can block the airflow vents (in particular, the rear vents) and cause the computer to overheat. Never place anything over your keyboard when operating in closed-lid (clamshell) mode. This can cause your computer to cycle on and off, which might create excessive heat and drain your battery. Use a lapdesk if you want or plan on using your Macbook on your bed or couch, or in your lap.
Use of your notebook on a mattress or pillow blocks your notebook from circulating air as it needs to, and can lead to overheating rapidly

  • How can i convert my iTunes to MP3 ?

Hi, i am sure this question must have been asked before, i have just downloaded a couple of Albums from the iTunes Store, to move these Album tracks away from my lap top, i have to put the tracks in a playlist, i am ok with that.
Then when i put the albums on CD's i can play them at home on the HiFi, so i am currently Burning an Audio CD.
It has now answered my original Question !!!!, it is so infuriating, why did i have to find out the hard way ?, it is now Importing the Audio CD back into iTunes and converting the tracks to MP3 !!!
So why does it make it so difficult to convert tracks to MP3 ?
Now it has finished converting the Audio tracks to MP3 files and it lumped them all together in the same Music Folder as the originals !!!!, how do i know which is which ?.
The only reason i wanted them in MP3 format in the first place is so i could put them on a Memory Stick ! so i can play them from the Car Radio in the car.
Does that any of that make any sense to anybody ?
How do i now get them onto a memory stick ?
    tim

I'm not sure I completely follow what it is you are trying to do, but it strikes me you're making it more complicated than need be.
iTunes imports files in the format set in your preferences.  If you want to import as other than mp3 then set the other format in your preferences.
iTunes is also set by default to put a copy of tracks you add into your iTunes folder.  You can unset this in preferences (I have this unset) but most people don't because it kind of messes up file management.  You can also temporarily disable it for files you are dragging to iTunes by holding the option key.  If you use iTunes for converting it will add them to iTunes - that's the way it behaves. I often use non-iTunes applications such as Max or XLD for doing my conversions (you also get to use the LAME codec for mp3 which some consider better than iTunes).
You can add a column to your lists display which is format, or just go by the file size or bit rate display columns.  While not definitive, I can usually depend upon files saying 128k bitrate or 3 MB in size to be mp3 (I have almost no AAC tracks) vs. AIFFwhich would have much higher bitrate and much bigger files.
If you have mp3 files and want to put them on a flash drive, highlight the items you want to add (it could be a whole playlist) and drag this from the iTunes window to the flash drive in a Finder window.

  • Itunes is copying/converting 500gb of music from .wma to .m4a files that are on an external drive onto my laptop which doesnt have enough room. how do i reroute these newly converted files somewhere with enough space for them?

itunes is copying/converting 500gb of music from .wma to .m4a files that are on an external drive onto my laptop which doesnt have enough room. how do i reroute these newly converted files somewhere with enough space for them?
new to itunes, used windows media player before that and always ripped music directly to an external hardrive and accessed it through the player. now that i downloaded itunes it is taking from the external hardrive and copying a second file for each song onto my lap top hard drive which does not have the capacity for all my music. as itunes converts music files i want them saved back onto my external drive or another location i have space for rather than the lap top. how do i change the setting to move the itunes media folder to another location. assuming that hitting copy and past and dropping it in a random location will cause a few errors.

When I have done this, all I did was network the two machines and copy the contents of the iTunes folder to the other machine, and that's it.
My understanding (which may not be 100% correct) is that the one file that is absolutely necessary is iTunes Library, and that the XML file is actually a copy auto-generated from the iTunes Library, appearing in a different format only for non-iTunes apps that take advantage of the iTunes Library data.
As far as I know, if you simply have the Library (database) file and all your original music files, iTunes on that computer should operate as it did on your old computer. I believe that the Album Artwork, Genius Data, and XML files can be regenerated from the Library file. Not sure about the Extras file.

Here is the step that you can try :-
LWAPP to autonomus AP converstion steps
Here is a example steps for you:
Step 1 The PC you intend to use must be configured with a static IP address in the range of 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1100-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1100-k9w7-tar.default for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power (the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power) from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds), and release the MODE button.

  • WLC 5508 with LAP-1142n - Several Errors

    Hello all,
    I had installed a WLC 5508 with 7 LAP 1142n and 2 converted AP 1131abg.
I am seeing some errors relating 2 issues.
1st- One particular AP 1142 is disassociating and reseting the radios.

I had some search, and the new discovery cause, might be that the AP didnt know what WLC do associate, in a multi-controller environment. This is not the case. I only have one WLC in the same management vlan.
2st-The Radius server is beeing related in the logs as been deactivated. I raise the server time-out on Radius configuration option, but it still continues to do it.

Is this meaning the WLC stop sending request to the Radius Server ? We dont have BackUp Radius.
As far as i know, its always the same mac-address client that is associated to that error, maybe a iphone.
I had so many clients in that SSID and they are all working good.
The Radius server is a NPS from windows Server 2008

, and the client says that the medium response time is 0,02 sec, so im wondering why the controller is not getting response from Radius for a particular client?! My client also says, that didnt found any log related to that mac-address client ... what is weird...

Hope some one help me here.

Wireless –> All APs –> High Availability tab, and did it only to the AP that is taking this beahviour.
Is this mandatory for a 1 controller only ?
No mather what the manual say, after that the AP is rebooting 2 mins in 2 mins... with the same kind of messages.
The interface on the switch is getting a few input errors and the same numbers of crc... but are so few...
Next step ... i will change it to another one's place/pathing cable.
Regarding the Radius messages... any ideas ?
I'm already on 30 sec's of server timeout.
