LaserWriter 8500 Error Lights and LAN connection

Hello
I recently bought a used LaserWriter 8500. I plugged it in to my network, put in some paper, and powered it up. The printer seemed to start normally, then the green light toward the front began to flash for about 1 minute. After that, it went out and the two yellow lights closest to the back started to flash (The paper out and paper jam lights). I looked for jammed paper in the printer, but found none. When I opened up the back of the printer, the paper jam light went out until I closed the door and it started to flash again. I left the printer on for 2 hours and came back and the lights were still flashing. Does anyone know what I can do to get the printer to work?
Also, I tried to find the printer in the Printer Setup Utility in Mac OS X, but couldn't. (Maybe because of the errors?) Does anyone know how to get the computer to talk to the printer through a LAN?
Thank You,
Video Guy

Repeating the on - off procedure several times may get it working because there is a sensor that checks the fuser temperature and if it finds that it did not reached the correct setting it will display the 2 error lights. If you can feel heat coming from the fuser this means that it is not heating up fast enough to reach the correct temperature in time. Turning it on and off resets the timer but the fuser is now part warmed up and may reach the required temperature for it to pass the sensor check. If you are able to get it to start up, keep it on at all times, as you will have the same problem when you try to restart it again.

  • Can't keep internet and Lan connected at same time

For those of you who have helped before I apologize for the repetition but I'm it for IT person at my husband's office. Guy we used has gone to NYC. Network is ethernet connected-6 iMac G5's running 10.4 served by G3 running OS9. Also has a 2-3 week old 16 port Linksys switch-not router-which replaced our old Asante hub-needed to boost signal from the server over distance. The original network used manually configured IP addresses starting with 192.100.100.2 for the server and continuing on .3,.4, etc. On October 21st we were set up for DSL service with Verizon-purpose to provide internet access for all users on the network except the server. The DSL modem/router is a Westell 6100. It is connected to the switch, ethernet, and phone jack. We do not use any DSL phone filters because we have a phone system (Merlin) and filters aren't needed. During the DSL installation,it was necessary to change our manual TCP/IP setting to DHCP in order to connect to the internet. This of course gives different IP addresses. It also necessitated giving the switch an IP address which was assigned 192.100.100.1-a number I understand is normally reserved for the router. During installation, after he got internet connection, the workstations lost all connection to our server-data base. He went back in, switched us back to manual TCP/IP and all was working well until last night. While I was doing a port scan in the network utility on one of the work stations, we lost internet connection throughout the network. The DSL modem showed power, ethernet, DSL but no internet. After working with Verizon several times today, we were able to get connected. There was a mismatch of user and password on the router which they tell me was most likely due to a power surge. In order to reset the DSL we direct connected off the Lan using DHCP. I was happy to have the modem up again but advised the very helpful Verizon rep that I had now lost the LAN. He advised, very nicely and correctly,"not my job". I have now tried any number of combinations in the network preference panels with no success. I even made one attempt with internet sharing on one of the computers to make it be a router but succeeded only in knocking it off the LAN and no connection. Right now that means we can only use the LAN even though the DSL modem is connected again. Any ideas anybody.

Have gotten some additional information to add to the mix on this issue. First-apologies to Rick on not getting back to you earlier. We have had internet connectivity problems over the weekend due to high wind-trees down. Also spent all day with software people who were able to come down on Saturday to address glitches so we wouldn't have to go in over Timbuktu. They have no idea how to fix. Situation is still as it was-just a bit more info. It is not that the LAN itself will not work when we are connected to the internet via DHCP. It is our operating software that will not work that way. It states on the PracticeMaker,(modified FileMakerPro) opening page "Must use TCP/IP, cannot use DHCP. Each computer must have its own IP address". So it is not actually the LAN going down though the net result is the same. The fellow who set it up got back to me. He thought the only thing he did differently was to manually enter 2 DNS addresses but I already had those in. I have further determined that the Westell 6100 modem is a modem+router. Saw a post on the G5 forum where Verizon techs advised Mac user to set it up via PPPoE. Looked at that option but don't know what to do with it. By the way, same user got 4 different set up configs from 4 different Verizon techs. I have to think that I would need to change the modem/router configuration which is currently set up "DHCP with private LAN".

Actually  we have UCS 6248 fabric interconnect - first twelve ports are enabled  and same in Cisco UCS Manager.
But when more port will be active by expansion module  then UCSM can manage that too or need any other licence  for UCSM too?

  • Can hp laserjet cm1415fnw be wireless and lan connected at same time?

I understand that on the printer settings it only allows you to be either wireless or hard wired to the LAN.  is there possibly a way for both settings to be on simultaneously?  I have a user here that's on an iPad and connects to our network via wireless, but at the same time has a virtual pc session from his remote office and the printer needs to be hard wired to the lan to print from the vpc session.  This is a tricky one that i can't wrap my head around.  Thanks.

Hi sorry for the late reply, yes the address is in the same subnet as what the ssid is broadcasting at.  the issue i'm having now is that the printer is not broadcasting itself through airprint.  I can't see the printer show up when i want to print a web page.  I've tested on an ipad and an iphone.  i've gone through all the settings and everything checks out fine.  The printer is connecting to the correct network which is the same wireless ssid the ipad and iphone is connected to wirelessly.  Just seems the printer isn't broadcasting itself.  Any suggestions as to what I may be missing here?  Thanks.

  • Blinking red light and wont connect to bb desktop?! ! !

i tried the video by hotnoob on youtube..and advice as well on here..
    maybe im doing something wrong..
    ive held the button(s) ,,
if i could just get it to sync with desktop id be fine
    please help thanks!

Read the technical support pages for your router model. There is an article on the blinking power light somewhere. It describes in detail how to load a new firmware to the router using tftp. Try this procedure.
If it fails try to do what I have posted here.

  • WDS and LAN connection

This may be a simple question, hopefully it is.
If you have a WDS set up, can you hardwire a computer to the LAN port of the remote base station to connect to the internet?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Yes.

  • WLAN and LAN connection on same Laptop

I have encountered this problem that if a laptop is connected to network through ethernet cable and also by Wireless card, it does not work properly (some small disconnections if there is a disruption in wireless signal etc).
Can someone advise me which connection (cable or wireless) gets preferrence when both are available? Is there a way in Windows XP SP2 to select manually which one should have a priority?
Also is there a way that whenever laptop is connected to network via cable, wireless connection should be stopped/disabled automatically and comes back up again automatically when ethernet cable is un-plugged?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
First of all, in this multi homed configuration, I experience problems with some applications that pass through the 2 interfaces. The outgoing trafic is forwarded by the ethernet interface whereas the incoming trafic from the server income by the wireless interface (usually because of the first DNS entry associated with the IP address of the wireless infrastructure).
What i know is that In windows XP, there is a preemption made for the interfaces based on the throughoutput of each interfaces. That means your 100 Mbit/s Ethernet interface is always prioritized in comparison of the 54 Mbit/s of your wifi connection. (The 802.11n will change this classification !).
But as you see in my experienced case study, the problem is that you don't control by witch interface the incoming trafic is received.
So, the only way i know to resolve the problem is using CSSC (Cisco Secure Service Client) which is a 802.1x client that manage your PC connexions by allowing priotity to interfaces and used of single-homed configuration. It works if all your interfaces are associated with 802.1x connection. Wether, the CSSC client can't manage all the interfaces.
More information with SCCS user guide:

    Hope it helps you.

Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. Have you tried to directly connect to the Modem/Router?  Please follow the troubleshooting steps and re-post with the results and information required from the questions above.  Thanks!

  • Laserwriter 8500 problem

I have a laserwriter 8500 with duplexer and extra paper tray connected via ethernet to a cable router that is connected to an original dual 2 gig cheesegrater. When I try to print, I get the message "printer not responding" The status lights alternate between the green ready light and all 4 status lights lit. This continues without end. When you first turn it on all turn yellow, the top 2 (furthest from you) go out, the ready light turns green and the other three go out, they all turn yellow and the pattern continues from there (4 yellow-1 green-4 yellow-1 green…). The two little lights on the logic board The rear-most stays lit, while the front one comes on once, goes out and then blinks seven times and repeats the sequence. It won't print a startup page but will print a test page either with the green jumper in the serial port or the paperclip in the back trick. The print is clear and clean and done with a fresh toner cart. I removed the RAM and it did not change anything. Using the jumper doesn't change the pattern. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to replace a unit like this these days would break the bank.
    Thanks, Ted

Thank you Grant! I had forgotten that such problems are mechanical in origin. Your suggestion set me on the right track. For some reason, however, I still find it impossible to get the printer to recognize the paper in the cassette. I HAVE found a work around, though, which is to turn the paper sideways: the printer DOES recognize it. Perhaps one part of the switch is broken. I wonder if anyone knows a source of information about the correct orientation of the white plastic wheels on the side of the tray that seem to be the "bumps." They change as I move the guides backward and forward. At any rate, this has helped a lot and I very much appreciate your help and quick response!!!!!!!

  • Able to access internet yet error message shows not connected?

    Lenovo W520 4270CTO
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit.
Each time I connect my laptop to a location other than my (first and original) home office, the network icon in the taskbar shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark through it, meaning "Unidentified network, no access". Yet, I have both wifi and LAN connection as evidenced by me being able to post on this forum.
I have tried to change my location to "home" or "work" to no effect. One of the error messages I get is 'must belong to a home network' in order to change. Well, from what I can understand, a home network is created by and for other Win 7 machines. I am the only one at this location...and I own the network (my new home office location). In another instance where this happened, I had a network engineer at that office location look at the problem and that's where I learned that although the icon shows no connection, it was in fact connected to their wifi.
It is impacting me because I subscribe to MS Office 365. I have had Microsoft support trying to troubleshoot the problem, inadvertently as I was having trouble connecting my Outlook client to get mail. Since that time, my Office 365 subscription needs activation, but it can't hit the MS license server. Also my Skydrive is not synching. It's definitely been determined (by MS) that it's a local network issue. I don't think it is a network because it happens at other locations.
I need to get this fixed because my MS office license has expired and it needs re-activation. I have loaded the latest Lenovo wifi driver, thinking that would help (Intel PrOSet/Wireless Software version 16.1.3). Not sure what else to do here. I am going grayer by the day.

well, first check whether you're connected to the blackberry network...
how can I check whether myself connected to blackberry?
Check within the network bars on the phone whether it is showing you 3G, EDGE or GPRS in capital letters...!!
If not give a hard-reset to the phone (remove the battery put it back once)...
And if it shows in caps letters then try requesting for services again... how? on the phone desktop > within the search bar > type "Host Routing Table".... search results shows you as "options"... select that & select host routing table... afterwards, hit the blackberry menu button > select register...

  • Wifi connection drops but LAN connection is fine

    A strange one.
I have both WiFi and LAN connections to my HH3 for different computers
The LAN connection is always fine - good speed, no drop-outs, etc
The WiFi connection however is a nightmare.  It works for a few hours and then the computer drops the internet connection.
It is not the WiFi connection to the HH3 as I can still get to the HH3 web page but any internet address gets a "DNS not found" error.
In this state, the LAN connection still works fine.  I can browse the Internet fine just not from a WiFi connection.
The only solution is to reset the HH3 fully (a disconnect/reconnect of the internet connection doesn't help)
    Any ideas?
    Chris

    Hi there,
It sounds like you need to change the wireless channel on your HH3.
If you're on Windows then you're going to need inssider 2 or if you're using a Mac, then you'll need to download istumbler
Download whichever one of those is appropriate to your OS and do a scan for wireless networks close to you and you will be able to see which networks are operating on which channels and change to a less congested channel, if need be
    I hope this info helps

  • BT HUB5 Drops wireless & LAN connections 01/01/201...

    Hello
Wireless and LAN connections has been working perfectly fine when i first signed up to the complete BT package (broadband, phone,TV) in September 2014. During the beginning of January 2015 to now February 11/02/2015 my wireless connection drops out in the morning and evening multiple times 5am-7am at least 3 times in the morning and at least 5 times at night 6-12. This drop out also affects LAN connections even though the BT HUB 5 is still lit blue, there is no fault light, once or twice I seen the fault light.
I cannot not browse the internet and use Netflix’s etc because the wireless connection drops out regularly. I have spoken to BT’s Global Service Desk who reported there is a problem, however a UK call centre engineer confirms there is no problem and the issue lies with ‘Interference’ and their excuse was it was probably conflicting with other wireless devices which is total nonsense.
I have checked with my neighbours and they have not bought any new devices or changed anything which would conflict with wireless connections, including kitchen appliances. I also have followed BT advise and switch everything off and on again, reset the router back to default, they have reset their end, changed the wireless channel etc. still get the same issues.
Everything has been working fine up until January so something has changed on BT’s end to cause regular problems which affects LAN and Wireless connections. Many sources on the internet suggest firmware and line testing for faults like on their BT HUB5. BT suggest there are no problems and everything is working fine and they have no problems on their end. I’m still waiting for a solution from BT……?; an issue like this would have been resolved or never happened with SKY and Virgin fibre connections.
Please can someone help and adviise best practice to get my BT HUB5 working again properly or suggest what BT must do to pull there fingers out and take ownership of this issue. Many thanks.

Sorry to hijack someone else's thread but I seem to be experiencing exactly the same issue.
Service was installed around about Sept last year and has been fine until the last few weeks when the same wireless drops started to occur.  I have no new equipment connected, but all devices experience the problem.
Having looked at my HH5 version, I'm on the same:
    BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204 | Last updated 21/01/15
I noticed the update date of 21/1/15 which probably coincides with when the problem started, so I wondered if there might be a known issue with this software version?
    Thanks

  • Getting 'unidentified error occured' while database connecting on local computer

I have downloaded CS5 Dreamweaver trial version on my c
    omputer, with windows 7.
I have also downloaded easy php as php-mysql-apache server on the same computer.
While creating a databse connection, I get following message
    'Undefined error ocurred'.
and the connection does not take place.
If I close the connection wizard, with giving database name, connection is shown on the applications pane, but when tables icon is clicked, no tables are show.
Also when I try to create a recordset, it shows that there are no tables in the databse.
I have insertd screen shots of the connection wizard.
    Kindly help.

I'm not familiar with EasyPHP, but it should work the same as any other local testing environment.
In the Servers panel, deselect the Remote checkbox. Leave only the Testing checkbox selected.
Something unusual about the Local Info panel is that the Web URL, although grayed out, is accessing http://127.0.0.1:8888. Localhost is an alias for 127.0.0.1, so that's not a problem, but the colon followed by 8888 is a non-standard port. Does EasyPHP run Apache on port 8888? If so, you need to change the Web URL in the Server Basic panel to http://localhost:8888/InventaEnqFrm/.
Also, if Apache is running on port 8888, it's very likely that MySQL is running on port 8889, so you would need to use localhost:8889 in the MySQL Connection dialog box.
The other obvious thing to check is that both Apache and MySQL are running.
By the way, it's normal practice to put the local files in the same location as the testing server.
