Lc-ATM question

Hi Guys,
i am just trying to get mt head around this technology. i am trying to configure a LC-ATM interface on a 3640 router. which is connected to a LS1010 switch. MPLS is running in the network.
here is the configuration.
interface ATM3/0.1 tag-switching
ip address 150.1.101.6 255.255.255.0
mpls label protocol tdp
tag-switching atm control-vc 1 64
tag-switching ip
.. i just want to know when do we use MPLS atm vpi 101-103 command
Please note:- 101 and 103 and random numbers . for an example.
and can we use mpls atm control-vci and mpls atm vpi x-y command at the same time . or only 1 command at a time.
Regards
amit

Hello Amit,
each ATM cell 53 bytes size has a 5 byte header that contains the fields
vpi
vci
a pvc or svc is identified by vpi/vci that can change at each ATM switch hop (just as MPLS labels for LSPs)
So the difference is that with the first command the SVCs built by MPLS signalling plane can have
vpi = 101 or 102 or 103
vci= any possible value
in the second case:
vpi= 101
vci = 33 to 65000
both commands provides forwarding resources but the first one should provide a bigger label (vpi/vci) space
Hope to help
Giuseppe

  • Please review my solution!

    Hello All,
    I am planning to attend the CLD exam next week. I am practicing some of sample questions. I solved the ATM question.
    Kindly please review and let me know the feedback. Attaching the code in both 2014 and 2010 version along with question.
    Thank You!

    Overall I've seen worse but, you do have a major problem as I se it from looking at your code.
    You FORGOT the USER.  Seriously, the user is key.  Tip Strips and Discriptions on EVERY user control or indicator is a must.  Postition the FP so user controls are visable is a must.
    I'm not "in love" with your queue handler but could se it on a larger project with a generic queue data type and a priority boolean.  overkill for a CLD exam you only get 4 hours and yo need to document those controls and indicators.
    Type defs-  All have default icons (Break that habit now or you'll find something like this someday and be sorry)
    There are a few developers I'd be tempted to shoot.  It is a point on code reviews around here now.
    Wired terminals not on root block diagram will get you dinged.  do a search i've said it before.

  • TS2570 iMac won't boot, GSOD with Flashing Question Mark, safe/verbose mode not possible

    I have an iMac 24", just over 2 years old running OS X v10.5 (Leopard). Mighty Mouse and bluetooth keyboard, no peripherals.
    It slowed enormously over the last few weeks and has now ceased to boot.
    On switching on I hear the chime (blank grey screen initially), the grey screen hangs for approx 30sec before the flashing folder/?mark icon appears.
    There is no further progress.
    Boot key combination results:
    Can reset NVRAM (Option-Command-P-R)
    Cannot boot to safe mode
    Cannot boot to startup manager
    Cannot boot to verbose mode
    Cannot boot from target media (DVD etc)
    Cannot boot to AHT mode
    Cannot boot to single user mode
    I have followed the steps here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    Disconnect, test peripheral devices and network cables - done - de-powered and rebooted. No difference.
    Perform a Safe Boot- this does not work.  I am familiar with the boot combinations and timings. The safe boot leads to the same flashing folder/?mark icon. I have also tried verbose, single user, AHT and startup manager with the same result.
    Reset the NVRAM / PRAM - done - this worked and kicks the system into an auto-reboot after 3-5 seconds. This also demonstrates the Keyboard is fine. The subsequent boot fails at the same point via normal, safe or verbose boot instructions.
    Start from your Mac OS X Install disc; use Disk Utility – I never received an OSX install disk.  I have the original box with receipts etc, the only disk present is an unsealed version of iLife (yeah thanks Apple).  Where would I get one?
    Check your cables and power source – done - all fine.
    Remove third-party RAM and internal hardware – not applicable.
    Perform an Archive and Install installation of Mac OS X – how would I do this when I cannot boot the device?
    Perform an Erase and Install installation of Mac OS X as a last resort – how would I do this when I cannot boot the device?
    To me the problem looks like a HDD failure.  I had windows (dual boot) professionally installed when I bought the iMac and since the Windows boot option is also not visible (startup manager itself does not work) I suspect the system can’t find bootable media because the HDD isn’t spinning.
    An OS corruption would generally affect one or the other but presumably not both Operating Systems simultaneously.
    It's hard to be certain, but I’m sure it used to make more noise.
    I had a look into opening it up and troubleshooting the physical components but it’s hard to know where to start.  There are no obvious ways in and I’m not a professional so decided to post a question here rather than hack it open.
    I'd be grateful if you could suggest next steps here, or is it time to go dig a hole in the garden?  I certainly expected more than 2yrs life from a £1200 unit.
    Many Thanks,
    Ryan

    Thanks for the response,
    I bought the iMac new, 17th Jan 2010, all receipts intact but no extended warrenty. I declined the Applecare Plan for two reasons.
    (1) The sales rep seemed very confident in the product build. In fact the main justification of the price tag was the quality of the device. I'd also never had an apple device malfunction at that stage.
    (2) The incumbent EU regulations are quite fair in so much as legislation dictates electrical goods should be manufactured to function for a 'reasonable' lifetime. I would be morally uncomfortable paying for rights I theoretically already have.
    I triple checked on the OS X disks you mentioned but no joy. Unusual as it may be, the box has not been used and it's contents reflect the day of purchase.
    I'm happy to order the OS X v10.5 DVD and attempt a boot to the disk utility, I don't mind risking a few bucks on a potential fix.  I'll need to figure out where to order the disk, the call centre is closed ATM so watch this space.
    What I'd really be interested in is; (a) is there a known diagnostic routine to determine the HDD functionality and (b) it is possible to replace/upgrade the HDD?  This for me is where the iMac loses ground against a conventional PC in terms of motherboard/component access. It's far superior from an asthaetics perspective while things are running smoothly and the OS is great but the first sign of a hardware malfunction and there seems little or no scope to self-medicate the device.
    The disk has around 40-60 GB free space.
    I don't have a second Mac, nor any friends or family with a Mac to 'borrow' for the disk utility test you mentioned. I'll hunt around this afternoon/week but my instinct tells me finding a locally accessable Mac running 3 yr old OS X might not be possible. Again, watch this space, I'll post any further developments.
    In the meantime any further assistance or answers to the above questions on determining HDD status would be much appreciated. No progress has yet been made on the original issue of failing to boot.
    Many Thanks
    Ryan

  • Another white balance presets/settings question

    (this is related to two other posts regarding white balance presets, but didn't want to hijack those threads with my own specific questions...)
    i've got a canon s70, and have been messing around with a friends copy of aperture. the raw files of my camera are recognized (though the aperture camera support page identifies it as not optimized support), but the problem is that the white balance settings in camera are ignored.
    when i view a raw file from my camera in aperture, the exif data shows that it is recognizing different white balance settings (various numbers are displayed here, for example, 1 for auto, 3 for tungsten, 6 for manual, etc). however, the temp. and tint settings are the same for all the images, regardless of wb setting (5278K temp, -18 tint).
    so, here are my questions:
    - is there any setting i'm missing that would let aperture correctly interpet the wb temp for a specific setting? in another thread regarding canon cameras and wb someone stated that aperture reads wb 'as shot', but it seems odd that it would recognize these different wb settings but apply the same temp and tint calculations across the board.
    -i noticed that i can create white balance presets and apply them manually. i was wondering if it's possible to apply preset wb settings automatically. for example, is it possible to create an approximate wb setting for 'tungsten' (3), and then have it applied to all images with the '3' setting, either automatically on/immediately after import, or through an applescript or automator action?
    while i could use lightroom, atm lightroom is lacking some features that i crucial to my wider image management/workflow needs (though it does correctly interpret my white balance settings). aperture seems like the best bet for me, but i would rather not go through my library of raw files and manually change the wb settings for each image.
    thanks in advance for any help.

    I don't know about your other white balance issue, but yes, you can apply a white balance to a selection of images.
    Create a set of WB presets (one for daylight, cloudy, fluorescent, tungsten etc.). This takes moments and will be available on any future occasion.
    Select and apply your WB preset to an image
    Fine tune as needed (since in-camera auto white balance or presets often do not nail it)
    Select Lift/Stamp tool
    Click on your adjusted image
    In the Lift/Stamp HUD, deselect all adjustments except the WB
    Select all target images
    Click "Stamp Selected Images" button in the Lift/Stamp HUD

  • VC atm

    i have a connexion ADSL over ATM .
    I want to use free ATM VC on ADSL to make private network
    my question :
    if use one VC , it 'is every body can connected to my privat network.
    if yes , how can i secure my network
    keep in touch
    pmc

    From what I understand from your question, you want to use a free VC to connect to a private network and at the same time secure your network form outsiders. Since the ATM VCs are switched from your site to another site to which you desire, other networks cannot reach your network through this VC. However, if you want to protect your network, you can always use traffic
    filtering/firewalls at your site.

  • Question about QOS

    We have a multi site network that is connected together via a managed ATM network The ATM network is our "core" network and we have no control over it. THe question I have is about how QoS would work over the core. We have QoS configured on all of our "Edge" switches at each site. I would figure that traffic going through the core would not adhere to our QoS policy but once the traffic gets to another site I would assume it would start using the QoS qualities that were assigned to the packet. Is this right?

    Yes, you are correct.

  • 2 questions about PPTP VPN on 878

    Hello,
    I've configured my 878 router as a PPTP VPN server. It works very fine and very quickly. Using the XP VPN client from a remote site, I can "see" all servers in my network.
    2 questions
    1) When doing telnet on the 878 through the VPN, it is very slow.
    2) I would have to get access to the internet through the VPN. But this does not work.
    What should I change in this config :

    Finding no solution to my problem, i've switched to other tools : Easy VPN server in the router + Cisco VPN client. My 2 questions have now received a positive answer.
    I was very important for me to get Internet acess through the VPN. Because we rent a dedicated server, located somewhere, and the access to this server is firewall-protected on our public IP address. Thus, when i'm outside and want to manage this serveur, i've to connect via VPN at our central office first.
    Best regards,

  • [Solved] Swap Question

    I'm not really a n00bie, but no expert, either, and these are probably 'n00bie' Q's.
    Hardware: Asus A8V-MX mobo, Athlon64 XP 3500+, .5GB DDR 333, 250 GB WD Cavier (IDE), homebuilt.
    I realise I really need  1GB (at least) of real memory for the environment I run, but money is tight, and my mobo only has 2 DDR slots, so I'd have to buy a full 1 (or 2) GB and put my current memory in the closet.
    Arch (Don't Panic) is fully current (x86_64).
    I have 2 (relevant) partitions: /boot (40MB), and LVM  (16GB). both at the front of the drive.
    LVM: / (3.5GB, 78% in use); /home (.75GB; 36%), and swap.
    This build is about 2 months old. I boot to run level 3, and manually initiate X/KDE as needed, but I'm normally on the net; typically I'll have Thunderbird, a console session, and Firefox running most of the time. I'm bad about having a dozen (or more) Firefox tabs open (10 at the moment).
    I frequent DailyKos.com. DKos runs AJAX-enhanced Scoop, which either trashes Konqueror, or Konqueror trashes it - it doesn't crash, but rendering in that environment simply does not work - open a page at that site with 200+ comments attached. If Konqueror rendered large DKos pages properly, I'd be using it.
    DKos tends to have LARGE pages. I also have a large Yahoo 'home page' with 54 categories; I try not to leave Yahoo windows open, although the home page itself is almost always open. The nature of DailyKos is such that a lot of consecutive pages will be open, and left open, often for hours, constantly being updated by AJAX.
    I initially allocated .5GB to swap. System ran OK, but bogged down especially bad when I opened a lot of browser tabs. In that environment (according to free, watching the 'buffers/cache used' item, and the 'swap used' item), both real memory and swap would 'typically' be roughly 50% in use,
    I decided a few days ago to increase swap by 50% (to .75GB) to see the results. The system is running considerably smoother; it still gets bogged sometimes, but I realise with the hardware I'm running I can't expect miracles. Even with 3 or 4 DKos windows open, it's still quite quick.
    Increasing swap had what hit me as an odd effect. Again, I have 10 windows open (no DKos ATM, but the effect is normally the same with them, also). free shows about 60% of real memory in use, but only 5MB of swap is in use. Given equivalent environments, I would have expected swap usage to go UP if there was more available. It appears that real memory has gone up, slightly (~50% to ~60%), while swap usage has gone WAY done (~50% to < 5%; < 1% this moment).
    I'm an OLD ex-COBOL    programmer; I've done a few moderate-size (but not commercial, production-scale) projects in VB (pre-Linux) and understand the basics of OOPS, but I'm not a C/C++ programmer at all, and reading the source isn't terribly helpful. Why did swap usage decline so drastically? I'm certainly not complaining      - I'm simply confused,
    Does the kernel decide on a memory management scheme at boot, based on available real memory and swapspace? Why did increasing swap DECREASE swap usage, INCREASE (more subtly) real memory usage, resulting in better performance? Given the environment I'm running, is .75GB a rational/adequate swapspace size? Any suggestions on an optimal swap size? I realise I can experiment myself; I already have a bit, obviously, and and willing to do more experimenting (and will), but some direction as to what's happening behind the scenes would be helpful.
    Lastly, is 'free' (properly read) the most appropriate tool for monitoring this, or should I be looking at iostat, vmstat, something in /proc?
    TIA!
    Keith

    I don't know the answer to all of your questions but I beleive this is how swap works, In order for the kernel to free up space on your Memory(ram), the kernel transfers data that is not currently being used to the Swap partition and when the data is needed again the kernel copies it back to your actual Memory. So Swap is only used when an application is in idle and no longer needs it's data to be directly in memory, then when that application is in use again the data is copied back to the Memory. The reason I beleive your swap usage is going down is because you're increasing the size, therefor the ratio's are not what they once were, you're still probably using the same amount of swap but since the size of the swap has been increased it doesn't seem like it. In a general rule a swap partition or swap file should be twice the size of the amount of actual memory you have, increasing your swap more than that really isn't going to make a change to how fast your system is since swap is only used when an application no longer needs it's data to be in ram because it's idle, so it's copied to swap until it's needed again. Hopefully this answers some of your questions, and for your last question I beleive it's a matter of opinion, each of those tools work equally well, I use 'top' myself.

  • One Library, 2 Macs Questions

    Hello all,
    I've got a PowerMac G5 and a PowerBook G4. I like to keep my iPhoto library synced between the two of them. Until recently, I simply ran Synchronize Pro after a trip or import or edit session, etc. and all was good. I've two questions about this method now, and I'd like some feedback.
    1. I've started using Photocasts, and I like them (although they're buggy atm). Does anyone no if you can maintain one Photocast from two separate Macs? I think probably not, as this would ultimately confuse the .Mac account, but I'm not sure how to turn off the Photocast on one Mac, while keeping it on on the other using this synced library method.
    2. I got a new 5g iPod for Christmas, and keep all (roughly 5,000) photos on it from my iPhoto library. The iPod is synced to my desktop which has lots of hard drive space, but not to the laptop. The iPod photo cache folder is over 4 gb itself, and I don't want to keep it on my PowerBook since it's useless there. I delete it without problems apparently, but then of course it re-syncs every-time I do a sync with the desktop. Has anyone come up with a better solution for this given that the iPod can only link to one Mac?
    Overall, I'm trying to come up with the best method for the desktop/laptop sync scenario, given the new technologies of Photocasting and the iPod photo. I've done a great deal of work with my library in terms of organization, dating, keywords, etc. and wish to maintain that across both Macs. Your feedback and suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    All the best...

    Hey guys,
    Thanks for the replies. Keeping the library on the network isn't a practical solution, as I want the photo library with me when I travel, which is often (and where I usually do my photography). That is, however a great method for sharing one library amongst various Macs in one household or a small office.
    The library manager program seems interesting, but I couldn't find any specific information related to Photocasts or iPods looking through the documentation on their site. Currently, I have one library that is identical on both my PowerBook and my desktop. I created it on the G5, and copied it over to the PowerBook. This worked fine in the past, and with Syncronize Pro, keeping them identical was easy. Until iPhoto 6 and the iPod photo that is, it was easy. When I copy or sync the library now, it shows both Macs photocasting the same albums to the same .Mac account, which seems to cause problems, especially when updating. Apple hasn't addressed this directly, but they've posted a KBase article saying to only manage your iWeb sites from one Mac, and the technology is very similar, so the problems would seem to be the same.
    I think with photocasting and the ipod photo, the libraries need to become totally independent of one another, so only one Mac updates my Photocasts & my iPod (only problem with the iPod is the cache being a wasted 4 GB of space on the PowerBook), but the photos on each library should be the same. So I'm more or less trying to duplicate my G5 iPhoto library to my PowerBook, keeping the keywords, names, edits & originals, dates, etc. but not moving the Photocasts and the iPod Photo Cache. When I return from a trip, I want to move the new photos with all their info from the PowerBook back to the desktop. Does that all make sense?
    If iPhoto Library Manager can achieve this, my money is happily theirs, however I couldn't find definitive answers.
    Thoughts?

  • Copying arrays, performance questions

    Hello there
    The JDK offers several ways to copy arrays so I ran some experiments to try and find out which would be the fastest.
    I was measuring the time it takes to copy large arrays of integers. I wrote a program that allocates arrays of various sizes, and copy them several times using different methods. Then I measured the time each method took using the NetBeans profiler and calculated the frequencies.
    Here are the results I obtained (click for full size):  http://i.share.pho.to/dc40172a_l.png
    (what I call in-place copy is just iterating through the array with a for loop and copying the values one by one)
    I generated a graph from those values:  http://i.share.pho.to/049e0f73_l.png
    A zoom on the interesting part: http://i.share.pho.to/a9e9a6a4_l.png
    According to these results, clone() becomes faster at some point (not sure why). I've re-ran these experiments a few times and it seems to always happen somewhere between 725 and 750.
    Now here are my questions:
    - Is what I did a valid and reliable way to test performances, or are my results completely irrelevant? And if it's not, what would be a smarter way to do this?
    - Will clone be faster than arraycopy past 750 items on any PC or will these results be influences by other factors?
    - Is there a way to write a method that would copy the array with optimal performances using clone and arraycopy, such that the cost of using it would be insignificant compared to systematically using one method over the other?
    - Any idea why clone() can become faster for bigger arrays? I know arraycopy is a native method, I didn't try to look into what it does exactly but I can't imagine it's doing anything more complicating than copying elements from one location in the memory to another... How can another method be faster than that?

    yeh, everyone thinks that at some point. it relies,
    however, on you being perfect and knowing everything
    in advance, which you aren't, and don't (no offence,
    the same applies to all of us!). time and time again,
    people do this up-front and discover that what they
    thought would be a bottleneck, isn't. plus,
    the JVM is much smarter at optimizing code than you
    think: trust it. the best way to get good performance
    out of your code is to write simple, straightforward
    good OO code. JVMs are at a point now where they can
    optimize java to outperform equivalent C/C++ code
    (no, really) but since they're written by human
    beings, who have real deadlines and targets, the
    optimizations that make it into a release are the
    most common ones. just write your application, and
    then see how it performs. trust me on this

    Thanks for that link you gave me :)
    Was usefull to read.
    About time and money of programming, that is not really an issue for me atm since i'm doing this project for a company, but through school (it's like working but not for money).
    Of course it should not last entirely long but I got time to figure out alot of things.
    For my next project I will try to focus some more on building first, optimizing performance later (if it can be done with a good margin, since it seems the biggest bottlenecks are not the code but things outside the code).
    @promethuuzz
    The idea was to put collection objects (an object that handles the orm objects initialized) in the request and pass them along to the jsp (this is all done through a customized mvc model).
    So I wanted to see if this method was performance heavy so I won't end up writing the entire app and finding out halve of it is very performance heavy :)

  • Question about creating a delay in AS 20

    Hey everyone. Let me start off by saying that although I
    design in flash often, my knowledge of ActionScript is limited at
    best. I am typically a graphic artist, using Adobe CS2 etc.
    That said, I have been involved in the updating of a site
    that uses a Sequential Thumbnail Loader. In the part of the code
    that I'm trying to change, the thumbnails are loaded, and then
    tweened onto the stage. I have created a graphic loader myself,
    outside of the script, but it is completely disconnected from any
    bytes loaded; simply put it's there for show atm.
    What I'm trying to find out is, can I have the script begin
    to load at the start of the timeline, then pause the script until
    my movie clip finishes, then tween in the thumbnails? I know on
    paper this seems pretty easy, but the block of code determining the
    entrance of the images is this:
    tmclL.onLoadInit = function() {
    tcount +=1;
    if (tcount<thumbs.length) {
    loadThumb(tcount);
    else {
    removeMovieClip("thumbLoading");
    p1w = myPanel1._width;
    p2w = myPanel2._width;
    pt = -(((p1w + p2w + thumbPad) - myMask1._width) - maskX *
    2);
    myPanel2._x = Math.round(p1w+maskX+thumbPad);
    var tw10:Tween = new Tween(myPanel1, "_y", Back.easeOut,
    myPanel1._y, maskX+0, 1, true);
    var tw11:Tween = new Tween(myPanel2, "_y", Back.easeOut,
    myPanel2._y, maskX+0, 1, true);
    tw11.onMotionStopped = function() {
    myPanel1.onEnterFrame = scrollUp;
    myPanel1.onRollOver = myPanel2.onRollOver = panelOver;
    loadImage(images[0]);
    I have tried inserting my own "if" statements with little
    luck, so if anyone could provide me with some insight, I would be
    hugely appreciative.
    Thanks!

    Yes, you can do that, but it's a little difficult to advise
    you the best way with the information provided:
    Can you clarify:
    Do you want to play the main clip while the thumbs continue
    to load... or do you want to preload the thumbs, then play the main
    clip, then do the tweening when the main timeline reaches the end?
    This way is easy enough.
    If you want them to continue to load and then do the tweening
    at the end of the main timeline (e..g with a stop() on the last
    frame) then its also not complicated, but you need to cover the
    situation where the loading of the thumbs may not yet have
    completed by that time (perhaps the risk is low if the timeline is
    long, but its a sensible thing to address regardless).
    Also consider whether you want anything to be hidden (i.e.
    _visible=false) at any point - e.g. before the thumbs have finished
    loading.
    As a starting point I suggest you would probably put the code
    after
    removeMovieClip("thumbLoading");
    and before the last curly bracket (" } ") in a separate
    function on the main timeline, e.g.
    function tweenThumbs(){
    //code here
    (its actually not easy to be sure, because I can't visualize
    what exactly it does)
    what you would do next depends on the answers to the above
    questions.

  • Some questions concerning switching

    Hello Mac people!
    I'm planning on buying a Mac Pro for xmas when the new oct core model is comming out. Thus I have some (read: 5) questions about the switching process:
    1) How is the varanty on a Mac Pro? What can I do? Can I exchange RAM/GPU/CPU/HDD etc without braking the varanty?
    What does Apple Care give me? Is it worth it?
    2) One cool function on Mac is Front Row/alternative program. But, Mac Pro doesnt have any built in ir reciever? Would it be possible to use my iPod doc's ir along with some fancy program and buy the apple remote?
    3) How well does remote controlling a win server work using a Mac and OSX? What functions are limited?
    4) My receiver (Yamaha RX-V495RDS) is atm connected with a spdif wire to my pc. I understand that the Mac Pro doesnt have a connection for SPDIF but only for Digital in/out? How will this work, is there some sort of adapter I could buy to solve the problem?
    5) Mby not the best question to ask in an international forum but what possible dictionaries are there for Mac? I mainly use Swe, Swe-Eng-Swe and Eng.
    I am atm using wordfinder for pc and it's just great! Is there a possibility that it would work in OSX using crossover, so that I dont have to get new stuff?
    These are the questions I have atm, but there might pop up a few more, so bare with me, I'm a Mac noob!
    Thank you in advance!

    First of all, thank you both for your answers!
    Vince DiStefano: I will have a look at the client...I don't have any big needs so it should work nicely...
    Btw...did spotlight search in Leopard work on network pc:s?
    1) OK, is it worth it, or should I just save the money instead?
    Too bad cpu upgrades aren't covered, since it is really user installable...for many users atleast =)
    2) Would I have to buy a new ir reciever or how do you think it would work? I will try to have a look at what's on the market...
    4) I don't really understand...

    That is the Mac Pros backpanel and it has "Optical digital audio input and output Toslink ports, Analog stereo line-level input and output minijacks".
    How will I be able to plug in my reciever to it?
    5) That I know of...and it does not cover swedish...
    If someone knows if wordfinder works in crossover or if someone could test it I would be really really really happy! =)
    Thank you in advance!
