LCD Touchscreen Question

Hello,
I have a 42" LCD Touchscreen (from Panelworx) with a integrated CPU that connects to the screen via HDMI. I am running a Flash Projector file in 100%, Fullscreen mode, developed using AS2, CS3. The problem/question is when we shut the monitor off and turn it back on the Flash Projector file is completely white, but if we dont have it in fullscreen and turn the monitor on/off everything comes back just fine. Turning the monitor on/off is necessary for the customer so I have to figure something out. I know it is a unique question//problem but I was hoping someone would have some insight, suggestions, similar story...
Thanks in advance for any advice!

SD feeds into an HDTV will look like SD.
Not necessarily.  There are a number of LCD HDTV's that sport features intended to "pull" the primary objects in a picture "towards the audience," which can add a great deal of depth to even SD programming.  Although such options don’t result in a higher resolution being displayed, they do typically mean that you might have an easier time distinguishing people and moving objects from static backgrounds when compared to watching the same image on an old CRT model.  I believe that Philips calls this function Pixel Plus 3 HD on their TVs, but different manufacturers will obviously call it by different names.

  • T400 LCD Inverter Questions

    Hello Everyone
I'Ve got a few questions about the LCD Inverters. First of all:
Is there a difference between 41W1479 and 41W1478? There must be, because they are different numbers, but wherein lies the difference?
Secondly, I've built in a 41W1478 card where there was a 41W1479 before. Had lots of flickering in the first try, then re-installed the card, and after that, it stopped working completely. Any idea on what i did wrong?
    Looking forward to your answers

The inverter that was inside before didnt work (screen was all dark), the new one was flickering. Then i turned it off, re-connected the inverter, and when i turned it on again, the screen was all dark as well...
Are you sure its the motherboard? because replacing an expensive part isn't really the solution i was hoping to find, tbh

    Hello rog (rogerdale)
    (1) You are now posting in the iSight forum.
You are already getting sound advice on this problem at your other post about this topic,
      http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10661272
and you have already determined that your Mac is an iNtel Mac, NOT a G5.
    (2) Your posted System Info still shows iMac G5 intel 17". To reduce confusion for those trying to help you, you should correct this (remove "the "G5) next time you are logged into  "Discussions. (If you don't know how to change your System "Info, you can do so via the "My "Settings" link in the upper "right quadrant of each "page.)
    (3) Your posted System Info also shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.5.1). If that is correct, you should download and install the latest version of OS X for your system:
      http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
Once updated, use "My Settings" to correct your OS version number, too.
    (4) A search for iNtel iMac user installable (do it yourself) items shows that users can upgrade memory:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3011
However, the search did NOT show that replacing or upgrading the display or video card, the parts of your Mac that may need service, is a recommended operation for users.
Having tried all troubleshooting methods available to you and other users in your original topic on this problem, you should now contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for service.
The Apple Technicians can use their technical information, test gear, and diagnostic software to accurately identify your problem Even if you are technically capable of replacing internal components, the AASP's diagnosis may yield an estimated cost to repair your Mac that is less than buying parts based on users' guesses.
See the iMac Service FAQs for more info on your service options:

    (5) You ask:
... this lcd won't work?? ... If anyone knows ... why it wouldn't work, could you please help ??
If you still want to proceed with replacing your display by yourself, you are more likely to get other users' answers to your part interchangeability question by posting the question:
     • at your other, original, existing topic   - or -
     • in the iNtel iMac Forum that has already been suggested to you in your other topic:

  • Power Mac 8500/180 LCD monitor question

A friend has a Power Macintosh 8500/180 and wishes to upgrade the monitor from the huge CRT it is now using to LCD.
Looking at the specs of this machine it has a DB15 display port, which it seems can output via VGA via an adapter such as this: http://www.lindy.co.uk/shop/showProductDetail.do?orderNumber=70187&source=search. Can anybody confirm whether this should work?
I also seem to remember that in years gone by Mac's were only compatible with Multisync monitors. Is this the case with LCD? In other words, would any old LCD work, or should a multisync LCD be purchased?
Likewise, would a driver be required, and would it matter if the monitor was widesceen?
    Many thanks
    Darren

The 8500 has a couple of hardware limitations beyond the physical conversion of the VGA cable for connection to the DB-15 port. (1) The 8500's onboard video support/VRAM is maxed out at 4 MBs, which is not really adequate for a modern display. (2) LCD displays have a native resolution/refresh, so the computer's onboard graphics controller or add-in graphics card should support those specs for optimal viewing quality. A widescreen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio further complicates the support capabilities of an older graphics card. What OS is your friend running on the 8500? The expense of adding a modern Mac-compatible graphics PCI card for a widescreen display well exceeds the value of an 8500 today. If a display with the older 4:3 aspect ratio is used, a more capable graphics card may be needed, but one that's not so current/expensive. Used Mac-compatible graphics cards, like an ATI Orion, Nexus, or the made-for-Apple ATI Rage 128 (pulled from a Blue & White G3) aren't too expensive and all of these cards have a VGA port, eliminating the need for the adapter. Your friend can always try connecting a 4:3 LCD display to the onboard DB-15 monitor port, via the adapter that you linked. Getting the DIP switches set correctly is the trick.

  • Cracked 8330 LCD cover Question....

I just got my first blackberry and put it on the floor where I accidently stepped on it which ended up cracking the plastic LCD cover.  My carrier, SaskTel, says that it will cost between $50 to $200 to repair it.  Are these things easily replaceable by an average-joe?  If so, where can I purchase one and is there someone who has replaced their LCD cover before (i.e. I need some instructions).
    thanks for your help.

    hello,
you can find videos on youtube that show how to disassemble a Curve device. You need to have the proper screwdrivers, as well as steady hands.
For spare parts including a new LCD, a black trackball, a new color keyboard, there are many online stores like cnn.cn (nothing to do with the information channel).

  • New Owner T61 Think Pad w/ curious question

I have never owned a laptop. I have used desktops for over 20 years.
This is very new for me. Question is within the port that you input the battery.
    Curious ??
There is enclosed card inside the battery port that has a pull tab "tape" with arrows which extends where the card is loaded within the laptop.
    What is this?
Is the tape to be removed or left in place.
I have not touched it.  Thank You.

You mean under the "pins" in battery slot ? this is propably sim card reader (if you have a GSM/EDGE or any other WAN module inserted) this tape is for makeing you easier to eject the sim card ..

  • MBP LED LCD Gradient Test - Software or Hardware issue?

    Hello!
I've noticed some of the discussions around the new MBP's LED displays, and some people having issues with not-so-smooth gradients in LCDTest 1.1 or 2.0.
My current, new, SR 15" MBP sports a darkish bar in the green area of the gradient, and a solid one in the red corner, when using the default color profile. That is, the gradient does not have all smooth transitions between colors. Switching to one of the (very blueish) sRGB-like profiles, the gradients display just fine and as smooth as they should. Weirdly, using the LCDTest 2.0's feature to display the gradient using Quartz, the gradient is completely smooth even with the default color profile.
As this issue also shows up in the color picker of applications such as Photoshop, where it is - in my opinion - prohibitive, and because I would much rather use a decently calibrated profile than simply a blueish-looking one, even considering that it is only a laptop LCD, my question, now, is:
Is this an actual hardware problem that can only be fixed by replacing the LCD itself, or is it possible that there will be a software/firmware upgrade published by Apple in the near future, to amend it?
(Note: I am not referring to the yellow-ish tinge mentioned by some users here, I am only talking about the issue concerning the smoothness of the gradient.)
    Any ideas or actual insights?
    MBP 2.4 15" Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I'll say it differently: I doubt we can do anything about it, because it's obviously a problem with the LCD technology. I think we have no chance to push Apple into using 1440x900 15,4inch LCDs from some other manufacturer.
After all, the specs say "support for millions of colors" and not "actually viewing millions of colors".
If you need a color-perfect working environment, you actually have to use a calibrated external display. You can never fully rely on any notebook LCD.

  • Where is Apple customer support??

So, I am a new Apple customer. I have had a cell phone since 1996, but my first iPhone was purchased 13 months ago, Because all of my friends couldn't shut up about how great the iPhone is and how great Apple is. In my 17 years of owning a cell phone I have only broken my phone three times. Two of those times have been in the last 13 months. The first time was partially my fault, because it slipped out of my hand, fell on the ground and completely broke. I say partially my fault because in the past I have dropped my phone many times, but it has never completely broken (Scratches and cracks maybe, but never completely broken). But I paid for the insurance through AT&T, so I got a new phone. Then, three months later I'm standing at at a counter and somebody bumped into me. My phone dropped about a foot and a half, but it landed face first. This has happened many times before with my android phones, so I thought everything would be fine. However, after I picked it up, I noticed that my screen was completely shattered. (So much for iPhone glass being 30 times stronger than Android screens.)
Now, we get to the meat of my discussion here. I have heard wonderful things about Apple's Genius Bar, so I thought I would go in to talk to somebody to find out why my phone breaks so easily. My first attempt was at the fifth Avenue location in Manhattan. I made my appointment and showed up at the specified time Only to find out that it would be at least 50 minutes before I could see somebody. I'm not sure why appointments are given out if they don't mean anything. Whatever, so after waiting 30 minutes I couldn't wait any longer and left. So, I tried calling the store to find out how much it would cost to replace just the glass, because the LCD touchscreen works just fine. They ask if I have the iPhone 5, to which I say no I have the iPhone 4S. They then proceed to tell me that they can't change just the glass on the 4S, only on 5s and above. So, the woman told me I would have to pay for the entire screen, even though one piece was broken. I still found this hard to believe, so I made a second appointment at the SoHo store for 1pm today. This morning, I tried to change the appointment to an earlier time today, but for some reason the system would not let me save it. So, thinking that not everyone shows up for their appointments I would be able to pick up a canceled appointment, or an empty slot I went to the store early to explain what happened. I got there and explain the situation to somebody and asked if there were any cancellations or open slots. Without even checking her tablet, she said no. I glanced down at her tablet and saw many open slots and asked what about those empty slots? She just looked at me and said I'm filling those now (3 other ppl in line behind me)  you'll need to come back at 1 PM. So, now I'm sitting at a Starbucks typing this out on my cracked screen while waiting for 12:45pm so I can head to my 1 PM appointment. As I was leaving a woman came up to ask the Apple lady how much longer she would have to wait, because she had already been waiting 40 minutes. Again, without looking at anything she simply said I'm sure it won't be much longer. So, when I head back over there in about 30 minutes, it looks like I'm going to be waiting at least 40 minutes for my appointment to start. Again, why have appointments id they don't mean anything?
So, the crux of this is where is this great customer service that everyone has been raving about? I understand there maybe being a wait  at the fifth Avenue store when it was a nice day and the store was packed. But if they know that store is always busy, why don't they expand the Genius Bar or do something else so you don't have to wait an hour before you get to your actual appointment time? What about the SoHo store? It's raining and the store isn't busy. They really had no cancellations or open slots? Why does the iPhone break so easily? I understand that when you drop things they sometimes break. However, as I mentioned before, I have had a cell phone for 17 years and dropped it many times but it has never broken so easily. Also, why can't Apple replaced just the glass? Why do I have to pay for an entire screen assembly when everything else is working? They can obviously do it since they're starting to do it with the iPhone 5.
The iPhone just seems like it is a really flimsy phone and I'm really not all that impressed with the customer service so far. (Yes, I had a case on my iPhone both times. Hard case with the first breakage and a rubber case with the second breakage). I have 11 months left on my contract with AT&T and I'm seriously thinking about going back to my, compared to the iPhone, unbreakable android phone.
Why should I stick with the iPhone?? Is there someone from Apple on here who can answer my questions? Please let me know. Besides the phone being flimsy, I kinda like it. However, I can't afford to keep fixing screens that break so easily.
I'm heading back to the SoHo Apple Store now, so hopefully I won't have to wait ANOTHER hour before I actually get to speak to somebody.

I replied to try and find out what help you were looking for from us, your fellow users, and could not suss that out from your very lengthy post. I couldn't find anything but rhetorical questions or questions that no one outside of Apple's engineering teams could answer.
For your own edification, I was asking why the glass screens were so flimsy
They're not, particularly; certainly no more than any other phone with a glass screen. I know of many people who've dropped their iPhones from much higher heights without having any damage caused. That the screen broke when you dropped it is a factor of exactly how it fell and on what and was just bad luck.
and why Apple would create a product which, while it has separate pieces (i.e. glass and LCD), both are soldered together so that even if only one piece is broken, both have to be replaced.
All any of us can tell you is that is the way Apple designed it.
As to my trying to convince you to stay with an iPhone, I really don't care if you do or not. I have no "loyalty" to Apple products as such. I use them when they work for me, and when they don't meet my needs I choose something else. You have the same freedom. Posting a long rant and request for us to convince you of something is just a was of your time and not really appropriate for these forums. If you want someone to try and convince you about anything, I'd suggest you ask that of an Apple sales rep, not in a forum for technical assistance.
If you want help and advice as to your options from we, your fellow users, by all means post, but please avoid the long screeds. They don't help and usually involve questions that we just can't answer. If you want to complain to Apple, use their feedback pages:

  • 30" Apple Monitor as HD TV/DVD Source as Well?

Hi everyone! I am considering buying a 30" Apple monitor with my PowerMac and am considering the following:
Ditching my old TV and having just the computer and 30" in my bedroom. I want to use the 30" monitor for both my PowerMac and for watching DVDs, playing Xbox, and watching cable (both regular and HD). Is this possible? Will I need to sacrifice anything to accomplish this?
    Thank you,
    Keith

The Refresh Rate of apple's LCDs are a bit slow for good gaming. They give you a blurring effect with lots of movement. I wouldn't recommend it. Most LCD's right now are not great for gaming with the Xbox. Maybe I'm picky, but I got a bad headache and did not enjoy it. Also, you need to think of how you are going to get your dvd player/xbox connected to the LCD. It has a dual DVI input. You will have to run it through your computer with a TV-PCI card or a video capture card, if you have a desktop computer w/PCI slots. Also you will need a HD-Cable box with a DVI output. Even then you will have to keep unscrewing the cable to switch between your computer and the cable. Or you could find a TV card/video capture card to put the cable through your computer, but to be honest it may not look great on the LCD because the LCD has such a high resolution, and most TV, even the HD tv thats out now isn't truly the resolution of the LCD. You may end up not using the whole screen when playing games of viewing TV.
And then there is apple's pixel policy, as well as other lighting color problems, that they are not too willing to replace a 30" LCD with questionable problems.
For this kind of money, and for what you want to do. I would get a nice 20"LCD and a 30" Tube-Flat Glass screen HDTV from somewhere that offers extended warranties, and you will probably still save some money as opposed to the 30"LCD.And You will probably enjoy the DVD/Games/TV more. Unless you are editing HD video, or doing massive graphic design work/animation, I would bother getting such a large screen for your computer. It won't easily double as a TV/DVD/Game Monitor and it can't be coveredfor more then a year unless you buy it with a computer and buy applecare. And then you still will have to kick and scream at the genious bar to get it repaired.
Just my opinion on the matter. I went through this whole proccess previously.
    Good Luck.

  • Hp 14 d006tx touchsmart laptop

August 30, 2014, I bought HP 14-D006TX touchsmart laptop  bundled with a licensed Win8.1 single language operating system and a HP 1515 all-in-one printer at one of your retailer store here in Dagupan City, Pangasinan namely Joycomp Computers.
In its first week with me, I noticed a tiny dot on the lower right part of the LCD touch screen which at first glance it look like a dust or dirt. I wiped it with a soft cloth but it seem that the tiny dot was stacked inside the LCD touchscreen.
Monday, September 8, 2014, I went to the retailer store where I bought the unit to show what I’ve discovered as well as to inform them that there are times wherein the mousepad of the laptop does not respond as you scroll over and also noted them that the task bar frequently appears while scrolling the mousepad like when your scrolling some documents in MS Word. The retailer store told me that they will forward it to their supplier for check up. Due to this experienced I ask the retailer store for a unit replacement, and they told me that they will try to ask their supplier about my request.
September 11, 2014, the retailer store texted me that my unit was ready for pick up. Their supplier reported that the tiny dot in front of the LCD screen was not covered in the warranty and the mousepad of the laptop is just so sensitive that when your finger is wet like “pasmado” sometimes it’s normal not to respond at once and the frequent appearance of the task bar when scrolling down the mousepad was also normal. Therefore, the supplier did not replace my unit.
A week after, I’m having a hard time in opening and shutting down my unit and there are times that there is no display but the power indicator lit up and when I press the capslock key the light indicator switches on, therefore there is a power but no display at all, so I pressed the power button again and my unit’s power turned off, I pressed again the power button to turn it on, there the unit turned on and had a display. And the start up sound sometimes makes a “grounded-like” sound. So I texted the retailer store about my problem. Again, they advised me to bring the unit to them and forward it to their supplier and had it tested. Again, I asked for a unit replacement; but then again their supplier reported that there is no problem about my unit. They just suggested reformatting the system and making sure that all windows updates be installed. The retailer store did what the supplier was advised them to do.
But still, when I used the unit, there are times that I still experience those problems I first encountered before the unit was reformatted. And got even worse because I also noticed that the unit heats up easily eventhough it was used for a short period of time. And it took me long enough to boot up my unit and unable to shut it down. So I used to press the power button in order to turn it off.
September 30, 2014, I reported these problems to the retailer store, and again they will have to forward my unit to their supplier. After 3 days, the retailer store told me that my unit was forwarded to BITSTOP (your official service center here in Dagupan City, Pangasinan).
Again, I demand for a unit replacement due to these uncomfortable experienced I had with the given unit. But they keep resisted my request because it depends upon the findings of BITSTOP.
October 7, 2014, the retailer store texted me that the unit was ready for pick up, because BITSTOP reported that there were no hardware problem and the overheating of the unit was just normal with HP laptops. They also commented to keep the windows update regularly because they concluded that these causes the booting problems that were encountered. So I texted the retailer store to burn in my unit and install some software I requested and they said “yes”.
October 10, 2014, I picked up my unit, but due to my son’s scheduled exams, I was not able to use my unit at once because I need to tutor my son on his coming 2nd qtr. Exam that will last for a week. In short, I only got the time to use my unit on October 17, 2014. But I used it only for a short period of time…then on October 19, 2014, I noticed something in the upper center of its LCD screen, because the opened window does not appear whole on the upper center. And when you turned it off you will notice that the LCD screen appears to have a curved on the upper center of the screen.
So again, October 20, 2014, I returned the unit to the retailer store and complaint what I have noticed. I started to get mad about it, because there seem to appear different problems with the unit. Again, they forwarded my unit to BITSTOP. I join them so that I can talk personally to the technician who will handle my unit. So while checking my unit, they also encountered booting problems, and I asked why is it that the said problem cannot be eliminated nor resolve and the technician just told me that it’s a windows 8 software bug. Then they asked me, what’s the new problem of my unit, I told them to check on the LCD screen. And after an hour or more they reported that the rubber of the LCD screen was misaligned. And they suggested replacing the panel of the unit.
So we went back to Joycomp Computers (the retailer store), and forwarded the report letter of BITSTOP. Again, I demanded for a unit replacement not only for the panel to be replaced but for the whole unit to be replaced. They just told me we will see. I’m not comfortable with their answer, so I’m letting you know about my case. I fear that if they just replaced the panel, what comes after it? Are there other problems that could arise in the future? I do not trust the unit’s performance already, that’s why I am demanding for a unit replacement.
Honestly, I am not happy, with these unpleasant experienced with your product; those time and effort bringing back and forth the unit to the retailer store plus my transportation fee…huh brought a lot of headache to me and made me feel very disappointed.
I am looking forward that you can help me and grant my request because I believed that your company will not let your customers feel unhappy and dissatisfied. Especially in my case that the unit was bought just recently but already encountered so many problems. I hope I will not regret choosing your brand over other brands. Please act on my case. Prove that customer’s satisfaction is still your main goal.
                      Thank you.

  • Changing Display Preferences

I have a terrible lcd monitor that only supports refresh rates up to 75hz and will show an "Out of Range" error if the refresh rate is too high. Whenever I turn on my computer or have it come back from sleep, for some reason Mac OS X resets the refresh rate to 85hz even though the monitor can only support 75. I've pretty much had to keep a separate crt monitor next to my lcd to troubleshoot it and reset the refresh rate and then plug the computer back into the lcd.
Question: How can I automatically change the Display Refresh rate if it exceeds 75hz to go back down to 75hz? Or some other workaround/fix?
I've got a feeling this is a problem with the monitor and or graphics card or something similar as this problem has persisted through numerous Mac OS X clean installs and a replaced HD.

As for problem with the monitor I mean that it may be telling the graphics card that it can support 85hz, even though it can't. But it works and everything if I set the refresh rate at 75hz without any problems whatsoever.

  • IPod Nano 7th gen - software update error and now not functioning

    Hello,
I recently plugged an older 7th gen iPod Nano that I hadn't used in a while into my computer (Windows 7 operating system) and iTunes wanted me to let it update its software. I said 'yes,' not really thining anything of it, and as the software update was taking place, an 'unexpected error' occurred. Now my iPod will not turn on or respond or anything. It shut off while plugged into the computer and has stayed off and I am unable to get it to turn back on. It is totally dead, like the failed update somehow ruined my iPod.
The iPod itself was a little damaged - the LCD touchscreen was nonfunctioning due to water damage, and only displayed a white screen when on, but I could still 'shake to shuffle' and it would play all of my music just fine. Now the iPod will not work at all.
Is there anything that can be done or am I just out of luck here? Did the fact that the iPod was damaged have something to do with the failed update?
I'm kind of bummed 'cause the iPod still played my music perfectly....
Thanks for any help or insights anybody can give.

I should add 2 important points: 1) I have no trouble syncing with my PC, just in updating the nano software, and (2) Buried in some Apple reference I found mention of problems if the nano isn't formatted for a PC vs. Mac. It gives info on how to tell what the format is, but it's outdated (the menu choices are different). I believe it is already formatted for a PC because of an entry under Settings/About which says the Version is "1.0 PC". Tell me if I'm wrong. Also, it would help me if I knew the destination of the software download. Does it download directly to the Nano or to a temporary folder on my PC?

  • Mac mini mini cooper ice cream truck-upgrade to iphone?

have a mac mini PPC g4 installed in a mini cooper ice cream truck.
the lcd touchscreen and carnetix power supply kinda suck.
I'm using the touchscreen as a point of sale inventory system to keep track of stock/slaes, but screen is not bright enough to overcome daylight readability.
I'm thinking of swapping out the 7" monitor with a iphone or ipod touch with some sort of point of sale application. I'd like to then just use the mac mini as an external drive for the iphone. is that too crazy? have i finally gone over the edge in modifications? is there such an application available?

In addition to glare films, you might also try a monitor hood, a la these:
    http://www.photodon.com/p/105.html
I doubt that you'll find one premade for a 7" monitor, but it wouldn't be hard to construct and mount one with some cardboard and velcro/double-sided tape.
The only actual point-of-sale app I can find in the App Store is Ring It Up:
    http://www.pingysoft.com/site/RingItUp.html
Here's the URL to it in the iTunes Store: RingItUp.
There's also a Lite version, though I don't know what the differences are.
