LDAP Configuration for ECC 6.0 ( ABAP Stack only)

Hi,
Can any one guide me with the steps for the LDAP Configuration for ECC 6.0 ( Abap stack only).
Some of my observations are....
I can see the LDAP Support in the Installation master at the following path.
1. Additional Software Life cycle Tasks --> Application Server --> LDAP Support.
But the prerequisites for this task is given as "You must have extended the LDAP schema for the sap data types before.".
When i am goint thru service market place i came across the following note.
Note 888848 - Notes on schema enhancement with RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT.
Thanks,
Tanuj

  • LDAP configuration for HR Portal in dual stack EHP4 - Best Practice

    Hi Experts,
               Hello Experts,
We are trying to use the JAVA Stack of ECC server for HR Portal i.e Dual Stack and have applied EHP4 package for ESS/MSS Appraisal. When we are trying to configure the LDAP ADS datasource through portal , we are not able to do it since ABAP datasorce file is available by default. This we are doing for HR(ESS/MSS) Portal. This is for access to the object data stored in the Active Directory.
We have already checked note 718383.
Also, for the scenatrio ,LDAP <-> ABAP <-> J2EE
We have already checked sap help doc.here:
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/e6/0bfa3823e5d841e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
What should now be the best practice to follow for configuration ? Should we go for separate Portal server or is it possible to use Java Stack of ECC server for configuration ?
Also, LDAP <-> ABAP <-> J2EE scenario please suggest if it a best practice and we can follow the same .What are the limitations , risks and issues ? Please suggest if this has been implemented and running well in any live project .
Are the suggestions applicable for load balanced production servers as well?
    Thanks,
    Rakesh

    Hi,
the UME datasource must remain ABAP but you can sync the users between ABAP and LDAP using the LDAP connector:

    Dear Portal Gurus,
we want to integrate SAP BW Bex Queries 7.3 into an Enterprise Portal 7.3 EP ABAP Stack only installation.
    1) We have Done SSO between EP And BI System
    2) System Object is Created
    3) When we trying to create Iview of BEX 7.3 report, its executing that report on BI server, we don't have java stack on BI System
    4) We have updated the required table in Bi system for executing the report on EP
    5) RFC is OK, System Object Test is OK, Report is working independently from Business Explorer, but not working from EP
There no irj services available on BI system, as it is only ABAP stack.
Can anybody help us in achieving our requirement
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Michael,
To integrate portal with BI you need to perform BI Portal integration steps.

  • SMSY for ERP JAVA and ABAP Stack

Hi Folks - I have installed SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5 in one database called T12. Now there is a need for a Java stack and I have installed the Java stack in another database called J12.
I was able to define the ABAP stack on system landscape and MOPZ is working fine. However, I am not sure how I should go about the Java (J12) instance definidstion on SMSY.
I am using Somlam 7.1 on Oracle Linux system.
ABAP stack is on ERL 6.0 EHP5 and Java stack is Netweaver 7.0 EHP2.
J12 and T12 systems are connected via JCO.
SLD has been defined for both stacks and they are using the local SLD for the SolMan.
    Your help is much appriciated.

Sunny - I checked the SLD and It is working fine. There were couple of issues that I fixed. Since I defined the Java system manually I delete it. Hopefully SLD will populate the definition.
In same note, Would it be possible that installing ERP java and ABAP stack on different hosts (stand alone) is causing this issue, especially they are using different Sid's?
I was reading SAP Note 1344564, It states
III.Some Main Instances include other Main Instances (E.g., in SAP
ERP 6.0, Main Instance SAP NW - Enterprise Portal includes SAP NW -
EP Core.). If the including Main Instance is installed, it's not
necessary to mark the included Main Instance(s) for relevance.
Is this mean in SMSY I do not have to define any product for the Java engine? When installing the Java, I had to create the product manually to be able to generate the installation key.
    Your input is appreciated.

  • XI with ABAP stack only ?

Looking at some very annoying problems with the XI Java Stack and applications (stability, memory consumption), following question comes to mind:
is it technically possible to run an XI system without the Java stack ? How much functionality do we have in there, can we do customers projects with that ?
In ABAP stack, we have the following functions:
    - Business Process Engine
    - Integration Engine
    - HTTP Adapter
    - IDoc Adapter
    - ABAP-Mapping (XSL or handmade)
also, we have of course the functionality of using File/FTP,Mail in ABAP. This means the most important adapter types are available in ABAP (without needing the Java adapter engine).
Of course the Integration Builder is not available then. But do we really need it ?? Same applies for the SLD.
Are the pipeline objects (receiver determination, interface determination and so on) stored in the ABAP stack ? I assume that is the case. Does ABAP stack contain the XI message type objects ? Or is that stored in Java ?
Anyone tried that path ? Is it already failing in the installation because some core XI ABAP components require Java parts ? Or would it work ?
Of course the answer depends on "what do we define to be XI". For me it is the core integration engine with the pipeline architecture plus mapping and proxy extension points. Everything else (e.g. tools) needed can be built around it.
Customer benefits would be: focus on ABAP only (Java knowhow not needed), easier administration and more stability.

    Hello Jaishankar,
    > there is no transaction to replace Visual Admin (NWA from >PI7.1) functionality.
question: suppose we are not using the J2EE stack of XI, do we need the NWA ? Does NWA also contain important functions which control/configure the ABAP stack ?
    >I would say Java and ABAP stacks are very tightly coupled >to each other and it would take ages to understand how >tightly it is coupled.
this would be quite bad design then. But you may be right. Current cross-calls from ABAP to Java I know:
    - call Java-Mapping from ABAP pipeline. If we do not need Java mapping, this call is not needed. In ABAP, we have ABAP and XSLT mapping options
    - other ? What else ? I am talking about runtime execution (pipeline), not designer tools
    >For example XI is a client of SLD which runs on Java stack, >how do you think you can replace the functionality of SLD via
yes. But what does XI need from SLD ? Business systems, target transports, ok. It's a handful of objects types which can easily be maintained in the ABAP stack also. For customers which are using the SAP portal or other Java components (apart from XI), of course, that makes no sense. But for smaller customers which do not use portal: for what do they really need that SLD ? I have seen one customer recently who didnt know about the transport targets and so maintained the IR objects on the productive system manually. More an education issue, but it shows a bit that the SLD for some customers is overkill.
    >improvised and will be done in the future versions. The long >term plan is to make XI a complete Java based tool. All the >developers tools will be accessed via NWDS in future"
yes, I heard that also, and it is very interesting in fact. We will see what happens
    thanks for your input,

  • Can we install ECC 6.0 (ABAP stack) and EP 700 in the single system?

    Hi All,
At present we have the running system, which is having DEV and QA instance of ECC 6.0. We are planning to implement EP in near future. So my question is, is it possible to install EP dev instance on the same system after adding the 3GB Ram and some more space to the existing system?
    Regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
Yes, it is a supported scenario by SAP.  At one time during Ramp-up, there were technical limitations, but these have been lifted.  See SAP Note 883948.
The main factors about this scenario have to to with lifecycle management and security.  If the systems are combined, they have to be patched and upgraded together.  Also, if they are combined, there is no possibility of a firewall between them.

  • Activating ADS in ERP for only ABAP stack is possible???/

    Hi frnds,
Our ERP system is standalone ABAP stack only.
is it possible to use ADS in only ABAP Stack????
    Regards,
    Balu

ADS is a service that runs on top of the JAVA stack. The ABAP stack communicate with it on a low level via messaging (SOAP). Therefore, ADS requires a JAVA stack.
However, this is NOT a bad thing. Typically, because:
    (1) ADS requires high system and OS resources, you will run it standalone
    (2) Running on a separate server (or distributed server) allows you to upgrade ADS/Java stack independently of your other servers if need be
    (3) allows for high volume and batch printing/access
Sooooo...you can install a NW AS Java stack by itself and run ADS from there. Once registered in your SLD, your ABAP server can "find" ADS.

  • Firefighter on ABAP stack

    Hello All,
I have a query regarding the Firefighter (GRC V5.2) component in the Access Control Suite of SAP GRC. I heard that Firefighter works only for ABAP stack and not for Java stack. Clearly what is ABAP stack & Java stack?
And is this the same case with Superuser Privilage Management(GRC V5.3) as well?
    Regards,

    Hi,
Each Access Control product requires the following two components:
A common ABAP-based component that resides on your SAP ERP server.  This component is called a u201CReal-Time Agent,u201D or RTA.  The RTA accesses data from your SAP system and communicates with the front-end Java component, to allow you to see and make changes to that data.
A Java-based component that resides on your web application server.  This component provides the user interface you use to make changes in your SAP database.  The Java component sends data queries and revised data to the ABAP component, which connects directly to the SAP database.
In Firefighter , The configurations will be done in abap stack using /virsa/vfat   tcode. Only reports can be seen in java front end. But in other Components we do configurations in java stack.
I hope this helps you. Please allot points is this helps you.
    Thanks,
    Joseph

  • JAVA and ABAP stack support pakages

    Hi,
I am new on installation of solution manager server.
I just install solution manager server EHP1 on windows 2003. Now I want to patch my server.
I have abap and java stack on my server. Can I use jspm to upload my new patches for both Java and ABAP stack or I should use SPAM for abap stack and jspm for java.
    Thanks Reza

    Hello Reza,
Just to clarify, Best practise is to update your kernel to the latest before you start patching in your system.
So download SAPEXE.SAR (Database independent kernel package), SAPEXEDB (Database dependent kernel package) and IGSEXE.SAR (IGS Package) from the SMP. kernel is dependent on your operating system and database and therefore make sure you download the right package otherwise you'll end up in messing up the system.
follow SAPnote # 19466 for help.
Once you are done with the kernel update then patch you Abap stack by SPAM and JAva stack by JSPM.
I hope that makes things clear.
    Best Regards
    NIraj
