Learn a new API

Hi all,
So what would you guys be interested in? Ive been playing around with making java games for the last 10 months or so. Before that was some work with AI (which is what lead me to playing around with game dev). But now I think something new might be nice.
Ive been reading a bit about the java media framework(jmf) which sounds great. Would any of you recommend putting some time into learning and using jmf? The potential programs that seem possible with the jmf api look relatively exciting (imo), although i dont really want to dedicate a lot of time learning a new aspect of java that isnt very popular or usefull.
What would you guys recommend as a usefull api to look into?
any thaughts
regards
R

I read through some of the sun API guide last night for jmf aswell as looking through the forums and it appears that jmf is not being kept up to date and doesnt appear to have much of a future. correct me if im wrong?
I would really appreciate any thaughts from those of you that know what is usefull out there as far as what aspects of java to look into.
I guess sticking with jdbc and the general database connectivity area is always a safe bet. I was just hoping for something different and intriguing aswell as usefull.
thanks again

  • Help Neede: New API for KM

    Dear All,
    I have found that com.porta.security.IUser class is deprecated in new release and it is giving error.
    I have to get <b>ResourceContext(IUser)</b> object to access KM. What is the new way to access KM docments using new API?
    Please provide some sample code if possible.
    Kind regards,
    Sreejesh.

    Hi,
    With "deprecated" you mean this class
    om.sapportals.portal.security.usermanagement.IUser
    What do you mean with "giving error"?
    As to my knowledge you currently have to live with the deprecated IUser class for using the KM API. The current
    com.sap.security.api.IUser
    will not work.
    Kind regards,

  • MDM4J to New API Migration

    Hi All
    We are planning to upgrade a MDM interface, designed using MDM4J Java API to New Java API as we are migrating from MDM 5.5 SP03 to SP05.
    We basically use the interface for the following
    - Add / update Records
    - Move the records from one repo to another repo
    - few other customized functionalities
    Need your help with the following queries.
    - Do we need to re-write the whole application code?
    - How much % of code can be reused?
    Please share your experiance if you have worked on the same.
    Thanks

    Hi Nathan,
    The amount of code that needs to be re-written depends on how well you have separated data manipulation and UI.  Obviously every reference to MDM4J functions needs to be recoded.
    Please note that your intended migration from SP03 to SP05 does not mean that you have to migrate custom applications to the new Java API, as SP05 still supports MDM4J. So you should consider the migration to the new API if you want to take advantage of functionality not included in MDM4J, or the much smaller memory footprint of the new API.

    YouTube is no longer native in iOS.  There are loads of posts on this, so the search bar can be your friend.  There is a YouTube app in the App Store.  Download it and you'll have YouTube.
    You can NOT get rid of Passbook.  It is a new Apple Native App and is built into the iOS.  If you don't like it, you can put in a folder or on another page, but you can't delete anything Native.

  • GroupManager & UserManeger Deprecated in 81. Example of New API

    We have to move a portal from 7 to 81. The 7 portal uses GroupManager and UserManager remote interfaces heavily.
    These are deprecated in 81. The following javadoc shows that the UserManager is deprecated in 81.
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/com/bea/p13n/usermgmt/UserManager.html
    The new API seems to be AtnManagerProxy with AtnSecurityMgmtHelper.
    Can someone tell me how to use these new APi classes? Are there any examples and do we need to make any configuration changes in ejb-jar.xml or other xml files like we did for GroupManager & UserManeger in 7.
    Thanks

    import com.bea.p13n.security.management.authentication.*;
    private AtnManagerProxy securityProxy = null;
    securityProxy = new

    if (securityProxy == null)
    throw new CreateException("userManagement - ejbCreate:

    user securityProxy variable just as you did before with groupmanager and

  • Why won't Siri learn my new girls name? She always asks if its "sara" and I have to hit yes

    Why won't Siri learn my new girls name? She always asks if its "sara" and I have to hit yes

    I use exchange and no settings have been changed. Also siri forgets who I am once every two weeks or so and she will only remember my wife's association. Further, in the last two weeks if I asked her to email someone. She will initiate a telephone call. If is say "NO" she initiates a sms and a multitude of other intermittent problems.
    I have performed a master reset and reloaded from a back up before the trouple started and the problem still exists.  The problem is on the Siri side and not in my phone as they also show there ugly face on my I pad 4 synced with the cloud for contact info.
    Perhaps Siri is aware that I got an Samsung Note 10.1 for Christmas.  It is about the right timing.
    P's. Have you tried location reminders?  That fix does not work either.

  • Help me to Develope a new API named "JChart API"

    I am developing a new api named JChart API.
    It has several features like loading data from 7 different data sources like file, xml, Jtabel, Database.
    It consists of different graphs/charts which are heavily customizeable.
    I want someones help in the designing and development of this API
    if any body can help me please contact me on my Email
    email address is
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    thanks

    I already see the JFree Chart.
    But i have some problems with it
    first of all i can not understand the overall design of this charting library like it uses the jcommon library wich i think should not be used. secondly it can not provide a uniform structure for dta manepulation. There should be only one datasource structure for every charting component otherwise you are not able to change the chart type at the run time using the same data. I can think on this option if u provide me some documentation about this project like its design diagrams and some project information
    thank you.

  • Problem installing a new API

    Hi
    I have to use a 3rd party API in my java program.
    Actually, it is just a folder consisting of about 12 JAVA files. There is no .jar file
    What should I write in the classpath variable?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
    I compiled all the java files.. All the java files
    are located in com/ib/client folder and after
    compiling, it contains all the class files as well.
    I set this as my classpath--
    "C:\Program
    Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin\com\ib\client"
    I also tried
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin\com"
    Now, in my program when i write
    import com.ib.client.* it does not
    recognize the pkg. I am using NetBeans IDE
    Am I writing the import statement wrong or my
    classpath variable has not been set properly?Netbeans doesn't use your system's classpath, it uses it's own settings on a per project basis. The easiest way is probably to compile that library to a jar, and add that you your project. Create a project for the library, and compile it. Netbeans will create a jar under the dist directory. That's your library. After you have the jar, then go under the Tools menu, and click Library Manager. Click New Library. Add the jar to the library, then go to your project's properties. Under Libraries, then Compile, add the library.
    ps. This is part of the reason I suggest people new to java don't use an IDE and stick with command line tools. The ability to understand how to link other libraries into your code is very useful, and stacking the IDE's learning curve on top of java's just makes things harder.

  • Learning the webtools API / Netapoints api ...

    I have hunted a bit for documentation for Webtools API in order to learn to use it.
    Is there sample code that is available?  I read there is a SDK folder which comes with the install but I could not find it.  We are the reseller for it.
    What I basically need to do is to write a custom OrderHistory web part (ascx) which will link up the order history based on Logged In UserID and not Account ID due to 2nd sync assigning the processed orders to the consolidated BP on the B1 side.
    So I need to know who is logged in?  I suppose I need to somehow talk to:
    netpoint.api.account
    And then based on the userid logged in, run a custom sql and display the data.
    Thanks
    Mike

    The SDK folder should be in the zip file you download from SAP that has the installer.
    There's not much sample code to go by ... the SDK folder has some and if you look in the plugins folder of the site you will see all these ascx files have the code in the ascx and not compiled in a dll so they can give you an idea of what you can do.
    For you example, if you just want to get the currently logged in user in a user control (ascx) just add a "using netpoint.classes" at the top, create a new NPBasePage object by casting the current Page to NPBasePage "NPBasePage basePage = (NPBasePage)Page;" and then use the UserID property of the page (basePage.UserID).

  • Grizzled Veteran Wants To Learn This New-Fangled EE Stuff

    I'm not new to Java (10+ years intermittent), but I am new to Java EE development. I do not plan to take the Web Component Developer certification. I am just trying to make myself fluent with Java EE.
    I bought the Sierra/Bates "Head First" book on "Servlets/JSP" a couple years ago but haven't gotten around to cracking it until recently and, of course, it targets version 1.4. I know that there have been significant changes from 1.4 to 1.6, but thought it would still be useful to go ahead and work through the book, then do tutorials on specific new technologies (such as JSF).
    Does this seem like a sensible plan of attack or are the changes so great from 1.4 to 1.6 that I am just destroying my mind, filling it with deprecated garbage? Should I just toss the 1.4 book and start fresh with a book which targets 1.6?
    Thanks for your feedback.

    I'd definitely go for a J2EE5 book, there have been major changes, especially the invention of the JPA (Java Persistence API) for entity beans, annotation-based configuration, JSF etc. Although you can apply J2EE 1.4 knowledge (because the specification is downward compatible) you'd only have to work through now obsolete knowledge.
    A good start is Sun/Oracle's J2EE tutorial, regarding books: I don't know of a single book that covers all parts of the specification in detail, but you definitely need one that covers EJBs (business logic, domain model). Some basic knowledge about Servlets always comes in handy - forget JSPs, there are more advanced alternatives to it. The web tier will prove a heavy pick: there are literally 100s of servlet-based frameworks available, but I guess some JSF knowledge is always good if you are looking for a job in the industry.

  • Old game developper not used to new APIs...

    Hi all,
    About 3 years ago I was working for Ubisoft building Java games. Back then (jdk 1.1.8), the fastest way to produce images with effects and all was to manipulate the image as an array of pixels (int[], ARGB) and to use a MemoryImageSource to produce the image.
    Now I feel like building a game for the fun of it, but I'm lost in all the new stuff they added. First of all, I just wanted to have an image built on an array of pixels. So I tried the following code :
    DirectColorModel model = new DirectColorModel(32,0x00ff0000,0x0000ff00,0x000000ff,0xff000000);
    WritableRaster raster = model.createCompatibleWritableRaster(640, 480);
    int[] array = new int[640 * 480];
    for (int i = 0; i < array.length; i++)
    array[i] = 0x00ff0000;
    raster.setPixels(0, 0, 640, 480, array);
    BufferedImage img = new BufferedImage(model, raster, true, null);
    panel.getGraphics().drawImage(img, 0, 0, this);
    First, I get an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds on the setPixels() call. Why is that ? I mean, I specified the width and height to 640 * 480 but seems that the raster does not have the same widht and height ???
    And second, if I use like setPixels(0,0,40,40,array), it displays some weird color scheme but in the array, I set all the pixels to 0x00ff0000 (red).
    Could anyone help to get started ? I guess I am missing something here.
    BTW, if anyone is interested in having a colloection of nice functions to manipulate arrays of pixels, I can send my old collection through e-mail.
    Max, former game prog, but da** lost in all this...

    Could anyone help to get started ? I guess I am missing something here.Useful API documentation? The whole area of Rasters seems to me to be thoroughly undocumented.
    I don't know whether you've had a look at the source code for java.awt.GradientPaintContext (it's a package-private class). Rather than use setPixels(int, int, int, int, int[]), they use internal knowledge about the type of WritableRaster returned.
    I think that if you want to understand what's going on, you'll have to wade through the source code (and it's not at all well commented).
    Incidentally, what wierd colour scheme do you get? Is it a consistent block of colour, and if so can you paint your image onto a BufferedImage and use getRGB(int, int) to find out its value?
