Lenovo X240 keeps rebooting with Kernel-Power (Event ID:41); Windows 7 Professional
Hi All
I have my newly Lenovo x240 installed with Windows 7. Sometime, it can boot up, but sometimes it keep rebooting during the windows logo appear.
When it goes wrong, it will have the following screen.
But, if I am lucky, after several "auto-reboot", I can get into the Windows 7. But sometimes, it shows the similar screen above (without windows logo but with what my current desktop), and it then auto reboots.
This scenario is so random, I don't know how to fix it. At this stage, I don't want to use system restore, as some software is installed by my client which is not located near my office, while the reboot issue happens before those installation
Here are some event 41 details that I captured.

Could you please help?
BR
Jacky
Hi JackyCheung,
I would strongly you to ensure you have the latest drivers and also Windows Updates installed before proceeding with anything else. Have you ran the diagnostics to see if anything hardware related maybe causing the issue?
In this scenario I highly doubt System Restore would help, was it working OK when you got it? what has changed since it was working without the issue?

Kernel Power - Event ID 41 - Task Category 63 (spontaneous improper shutdowns and reboots)
I have been having consistent power offs/reboots lately, and im at my wits end about how to fix them.
It always seems to happen when im playing a high end game (Guild Wars 2, Mirrors Edge, etc.).
I havent experienced it while just browsing or doing basic work, or while playing lower intensity games that hog less resources.
The computer screen goes black, it reboots and i get the "windows has had an improper shutdown" kind of message.
Usually after playing the game for an hour at the least, though its happened 2-3 hours into the game as well.
I checked temps, and they are all normal,
Ive also attempted updating drivers, and downgrading from any beta drivers i was using, and none of that seemed to affect it.
I checked event viewer,
And right before this shutdown i get the critical error "Kernel-Power" "Event ID 41" Task Category 63"
this is the XML given to me in the details:

If anyone has any suggestions as to what could be going wrong, or things to check it would be greatly appreciated.
Ive looked around at others solutions and tried whats helped others and it hasnt done much so far.
it seems like this is a very broad problem, with no unspecific fix in most cases.Hi,
This scenario usually indicates a problem with the hardware. Or, the driver can cause this problem. To help isolate the problem, check the following items:
1. Overclocking: Disable overclocking to see whether the issue occurs when the system is run at the correct speed.
2. Check the memory: Verify the memory by using a memory checker. Verify that each memory chip is
the same speed and that it is configured correctly in the system.
3. Power supply: Make sure that the power supply has enough wattage to appropriately handle the
installed devices. If you added memory, installed a newer processor, installed additional drives, or added external devices, such devices can require more energy than the current power supply can provide consistently.
4. Overheating: Check whether the system is overheating by examining the internal temperature of
the hardware.
5. Defaults: Use system defaults, and run the system.
If you see that the computer generates a Stop error that contains a BugcheckCode value that is not reported in an event ID 41, change the restart behavior for the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click Advanced system settings.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
5. Click to clear the Automatically restart check box.

P67a-GD53 (B3) Hard Crashes (Kernel Power - Event ID 41)
Fresh Win7 installation on a 250GB Hitachi Deskstar connected to the SATA III P67 Chipset ports using Bios 1D (and also the latest Beta Bios) at default clocks - XMP enabled and RAM Voltage set to 1.52V and energy saving options disabled (EIST, Spread Spectrum, C1E and all C states).
I experience hard crashes as if someone has dc'd the power followed by the PC rebooting as normal. Further analysis of the Event Viewer shows 'Kernel-Power Event ID 41) critical events. I recently connected this mechanical drive as I was troubleshooting the same problems plus BSODs and crashes in windows and BF3 with a Vertex 3 120GB SSD.
I've tested the RAM via memtest with no errors so that isn't the problem. The HD and SSD are not the issue as the problems are reproduced over both. I will test another PSU and try and isolate that. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?Ok sorry it took so long, so here's my settings should work great! if you are using Stock Cooler you need to minimize on clock speed to 3200, but if you have a great cooler like me. You should be able to run at 3800 - 4200 just fine, mine runs about 44-46 degrees C (111-113F) which is good. Go into the Bios and be sure the Overclock Genie is off.. (sucks for 1600 Memory), and go to Overclock settings and you should get these screens here, and the last screen should be under Cpu Feautures. Hope this helps! Let me know thanks!
*** Also Note my Ram is 1.65V so might want to try it at 1.52V if your Ram is 1.5 volts ***

I’m having windows 7 home premium, trying to configure event viewer for kernel power.
To log shutdown event.
After enabling kernel power log. I’m getting weird event saying that,
The description for Event ID 74 from source Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation
is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
In between I never get shutdown event.Hi
I want to know if there is a system problem occurred when the ever log generated?
Because the kernel power event ID 41 error occurs when the computer is shut down, or it restarts unexpectedly. When a computer that is running Windows starts, a check is performed to determine whether the computer was shut down cleanly. If the computer was
not shut down cleanly, a Kernel Power Event 41 message is generated.
According to your description, the error occurred because settings on kernel power log or unexpectedly shutdown, you can find the information below:

I upgraded iphone 4s to iOS6. Now phone just keeps rebooting with the apple sign showing on a black screen. It does not completely start up.
Hi Lisa 1952,
What have you done so far to try to fix it? I've tried rebooting several times and it did not work. Tried connecting to iTines but it does not recognize the iPhone.
My other iPhone 4s restarted successfully after the updgrade but some apps don't function properly. It automatically closes while in use.
Apple please help. I know it's the weekend but I need the other iPhone to work. Can't use sim with a diffrent phone because it's a micro sim! -
Hello, Currently we are seeing this issue with a couple of our Lenovo T420s laptops with a Solid State Drive. ruffly about 10 or so. The Reboots happen randomly and do not create a dump file. We have contacted Lenovo and they are
not sure why its happening. Since this Crash I set it for Minidump this did not work my next steps will be to Disable Automatic restart on System Failure to see if it brings anything up. I am also looking at using Procmon to dump to a file as well.
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Thank you.We have tested and checked both the Bios and firmware of the SSD Drive's
Bios was up to date and no issue
Firmware was also up to date as well.
Users are still experiencing random Reboots. I tried to capture the issue with Procmon but since the PC shutdown (Goes to a black screen no power at all even when turning the "Automatically
restart" off under Startup and Recovery) No dmp files as of yet. Unable to configure Procdump due to not knowing where the issue is and what is causing it to happen.
Going to replace one of the PC's with a New one with different hardware to see if this resolve the issue. If anyone has any idea's to be able to capture what maybe happening that would
be great.
Thank you. -
Please help with Windows 7 x64 System error: Critical Kernel-power Event 41
I'm recieving this error while moving my laptop or working with it? Can someone help me to read memory dumps and to understand what causes this error please?
Where i can fount theese dump files? Can someone read them and is it possible to understand what is happening?
I have made full check of my memory and there are No errors I've also checked HDD with regenerator there are no errors too. but this not means that they can not be the problem. There is doubt about one of my HDD because when laptop is blocking there is bad
noise from HDD.
PS: There is another issue which is strange two of times when this happens the whole MBR was destroyed and the system refuses to boot ... only reboots. And i made bootrec /fixboot /fixmbr and this solve the problem ... I don't know is this connected with
system error, but i'm trying to give more details.
Thanks a lot.

dram frequency should be 1:1, particularly so if having problems like so
fsb = 166. Also want memory bus at 166 Mhz, means ddr = 333
see if that gets rid of reboots
I have changed frequency to 1:1.......and i am actually running in dual channel now....
my ram are running 166 with timmings 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 7
before in single channel frequency
my ram was running 200 with timming 3 - 3 - 3 - 8
let see for how long it keeps going. -
PowerMac G4 keeps crashing with kernel panics
For the past few weeks my PowerMac G4 has been crashing repeatedly with kernel panics. I've taken in to the Genius Bar three times to get it looked at, but it still keeps crashing.
I've used Disk Warrior multiple times to repair the hard drive. I've archived and reinstalled the OS. I've reinstalled the entire Adobe Creative Suite CS3. I don't know what else to do.
It's crashed twice this morning already. Can anyone tell what the source of this chaos is from the panic log?

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.0: Wed Oct 10 18:26:00 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.24.17~1/RELEASE_PPCjust like you guys I was getting frequent kernal panics and have to restart mac each time.
i tried Diskwarrior too, but that doesnt resolve it. the techie at alsoft.com (diskwarrior) says its was a hardware problem. run a ram test like apple hardware test to chk ram. I do not have apple hardware test. instead there is a program called 'Memtest' which is obtained thru [email protected] for only a small charge. you then are able to download it.
I ran the memtest and found that One of my mem strips is defective. Memtest doesn't tell which one is bad, so you still have to trial and error by swapping strips in and out 7 rerun the test. I did find the defective strip finally. i then replaced it with a new 1 GB ddr pc2700strip. I ran the test again and no failure or flaws. Running the memtest a few times is time consuming but it works!!! I've had no more Kernal Panics!!! everything else runs better too. Version 4.22 is current but they may come out with updates that may actually identify the bad strip in memory.
Good luck on this matter. -
Lenovo A6000 keeps rebooting after upgrading to Kraft-A6000_S029_150212
I just updated my new Lenovo A6000 smartphone to Kraft-A6000_S029_150212 version. Since then, it is continuously rebooting. It comes up, stays for 5 seconds, UI hangs and then reboots.Need urgent help on how to recover. With great difficulty, was able to switch off the phone as it wasn't giving me enough time to power off. The continuous booting up sound was irritating people sitting nearby and I wasn't even able to turn off that sound.
Will check with service centre and update here. FYI - I had received the phone on 13-Feb-2015 and as soon as i switched it on, it prompted for a software upgrade. So I upgraded (over WiFi) with whatever was the latest software version available at that time. After that upgrade also, the phone used to automatically reboot atleast 3-4 times a day randomly. I thought that could be a bug in that version and to take care of that, I upgraded to the latest version this morning only to end up in constant reboot mode. So not sure if this could be a manufacturing defect too. Thanks.

Factors that Affect 802.11n Throughput
There are circumstances where 802.11n devices cannot operate at their maximum capable data rates. There are various reasons why this occurs. This is the list of factors that affect 802.11n throughput:
When 802.11n clients operate in a mixed environment with 802.11a or 802.11 b/g clients, 802.11n provides a protection mechanism to interoperate with 802.11a or 802.11 b/g clients. This introduces an overhead and reduces the throughput of 802.11n devices. Maximum throughput is achieved in Greenfield mode where only 802.11n clients exist.
Factors such as Channel width, Guard Interval and Reduced IFS (RIFS) play a major role in the bandwidth. Table 1 and Table 2 show how these factors affect the bandwidth.
Clients ability to send a Block Ack instead of individual frame acknowledgements.
MCS Index configured on the WLC.
Proximity to AP—Clients closer to the AP experience higher data rates. As clients move farther away from the AP, signal strength reduces. As a result, data rate decreases steadily.
RF environment—Amount of noise and interference in the environment. The less the noise and interference, the greater the bandwidth.
Encryption/ Decryption—Encryption in general reduces the throughput due to the overhead involved in the data encryption/decryption process. However, advanced encryption standards, such as AES, can provide better throughput when compared to other encryption standards, such as TKIP and WEP.
Wired Network Infrastructure—Bandwidth of the wired infrastructure determines the speed of the traffic to and from the wired network to the wireless clients.
If using an AP1250, change the AP to H-REAP mode for a 5-10% boost.
If using an AP1140, keep the AP in local mode and enable TCP MSS on the controller. Use the config ap tcp-adjust-mss enable all 1363 command in order to enable it.
Disable RRM scanning to prevent any throughput drops when going off channel. This can yield a 1-3% improvement.
Disable RLDP to ensure the AP does not attempt to connect to rogue devices during testing.
Use a Wireless Controller 5508 as the data plane is superior to the 4404-series.
My questions are:
1. How i can i put the access point to operate only in N mode (because all my clients are N)
2.The guard interval can be modify ?
3. How to put my AP in H-REAP (can i do this without WLC?)
4. How to disable RRM
5.How to disable RLDP.
Thank you. -

This has been happening for a few months now. Sometimes it happens multiple times a day, sometimes a week or so can go by without a crash. I've experienced 3 carashes in the past 3 days now. My guess, I don't really know how to read the logs below, is that there's a GPU issue.

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0You have the mid-2010 problem. There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.

What you can do to use it is download gfxcardstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel. That will lessen the panics at the expense of graphics speed.
You may be eligible for a depot repair, which is a flat rate of about $310. Ask at the Genius Bar. Take along a printout of your panic.
This was just posted this week. You might want to check it out. I can't vouch for it, but it may be a way to solve the problem. Please post back if you try this and it works.
