Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro: endless error(?) messages during installation

I'm trying to install Arch Linux on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.  It came pre-installed with Windows 8.1, but all remnants of W8 have been removed. Currently it's running Ubuntu-Gnome.
Using Windows 7, I created a UEFI bootable USB stick using the instructions provided on the wiki (extracting w/ 7zip and renaming the volume label).  The UBS stick booted just fine, and I was presented with a menu of about 5 items -- the first being "Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI"  After selecting the first item, the screen ran through a bunch of items (too small for me to see with this crazy resolution), but they all said [OK].  Then the screen cleared and I was presented with a shell prompt.  This is where the problem begins.  Immediately, I start seeing the following lines written to the screen about every 5 seconds...
usb 2-7 unable to read config index 0 descriptor/start: -71
     usb 2-7 can't read configurations, error -71
periodically I see this thrown in as well...
unable to enumerate USB device on port 7
Every time I try typing something whatever I'm typing gets blown away by 2 more lines being written to the screen.  This never ends.  Eventually I end up with thousands rows and I just give up.
Any ideas?  Is the hardware too new?
Thanks very much!
Eric

I can completely understand this guy's frustration with the clickpad, it is completely unusuable with the default settings. I played around with the synaptics settings and it is much better now, I just adjusted the FingerHigh and FingerLow options:
synclient FingerHigh=46
synclient FingerLow=46
With these settings, the cursor doesn't twitch around anymore when you try to click something.

Ok, I have tried for several days and even got ahold of Microsoft on this issue. Every time i go to download Itunes the download is ok, but when it goes to install Itunes, I ALWAYS get "Unknown Publisher" error message and installation is cancelled. How do i resolve this issue? Any ideas?????

Some folks have had success by downloading and installing QuickTime standalone, then installing itunes after QT. iTunes needs QT codecs to play audio & video.

  • Can't connect to X11 Windows ............ error message during installation

ok, so i searched through the long list of messages on the forum and still don't have an answer. I am using a PC with redhat FC4 installed and trying to install Oracle 9 on the same PC. I tried to export my DISPLAY=hostname:0.0 and export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 and neither worked.
From the replies on the same error message, i gather that i do not need to run
    xhost +
because i am on the same machine.
What else can i check to get rid of this frustrating message ?
Most replies on the erorr messages were from a few years ago as well.
    Thanks

I solved my problem. It might be useful for other redhat FC users as well.
I changed the default terminal to be an Xwindows terminal instead of the standard terminal. You can do that by clicking on "Desktop", "Preferences" or "More Preferences" and configuring your default terminal to be Xwindows.
I was able to start installer WITHOUT exporting my display or any other command to get display going.
The installer did complain about some font messages, but apparently it didn't pose a problem.
BTW, i got Oracle 9.2.0.1 running on Redhat FC 4 using installation instructions i easily found on google. You need to use an old version of GCC (only during installation of software) and JRE (1.3.1_15); but it works. It will only be my "play at home" database. Probably not recommended for a production database.

Every time I go to install iTunes, it stops in the middle of the installation and gives me this message. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. • C++ 2012 package (11.0.50727) & error message during installation printer software

    Hello to you all,
I've recently bought a new laptop for my daughter (a HP Pavilion Touch Smart 11).
When I try to install the software needed for installation for the printer (HP J6410) I get the following error.
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local-\Temp\7zS46SD\Setup\de..
Now, I've already tried pretty much about everything. Even a full factory recovery, installing all of the needed updates, after that upgrading to windows 8.1, installing of the updates for that OS version too, and then trying to install the software again.
No succes, but the more I try, the more I'm convinced the problem might lay in the C++ 2012 redistributable package (version 11.0.50727). This is why.
I've got more laptops here at home. The one I have for my own is a HP 15 Notebook and has Windows 8.1 installed on it as well. Now here's the funny thing.
I managed to install the software on my own laptop (the HP 15, with an Intel processor) but no succes on the laptop for my daughter (the HP 11 TS, with an AMD processor).
When I looked at the installed C++ packages I noticed that the laptop for my daugther has the C++ 2012 package installed, and my own doesn't. So that's why I think the problem must lay there. Also because on this page (http://www.freewarefiles.com/Microsoft-Visual-C-2012-Redistributable-x64_program_78882.html)
it is said that it supports Windows 8 (which was pre-installed on the laptop for my daughter), but Windows 8.1 isn't mentioned.
I would be very thankfull if someone could help me resolving this issue.
(Note: I've tried to get help on the support forum of HP.  More information on how I resolved the issue, in May 2014, on my own laptop, and how it is related to C++, can be found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officet-J6410-won-t-install-under-Windows-8-1-64-bit/m-p/3935396#M142540

Please do read them. I've already tried so many things, and I can't get the issue resolved. Even though I'm pretty sure I must be so close to resolving this issue.)
I most thankfully await your response(s).
    Update (30-9-2014, 23:14):
I've written above that I tried to re-install the printer. With the original CD, and also the software one can download on the HP site (OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe). Now, it seemed a good idea do uninstall the software.
Yep, you guess it .. I made my problem worse.
When I tried to uninstall it with the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS6A01\util\ccc\uninstall.exe I got the following message at reboot. It says you have to click OK to terminate the program, but it doesn't await your response. It's there,
for a glimpse of a moment, and disappears. It said (in Dutch):
'De instructie op .....xe01 verwijst naar geheugen op 0x00000000. Een lees- of schrijfbewerking op het geheugen is mislukt. read
Klik op OK als u het programma wilt beëindigen'.
It looks very similar to the error message here: http://fud.community.services.support.microsoft.com/Fud/FileDownloadHandler.ashx?fid=8d18c288-aeb4-41c0-983f-6798cfa178a0 that I found in this topic: http://answers.microsoft.com/nl-nl/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/windows-81-afsluitfout-explorerexe-0xe06640b9/0c64290f-2e0b-47fc-a38a-adb9ceb5a5ac
Now, after this (that is: the uninstalling op the printer software) I returned to a system recovery point I made before the installation of the HP printer software. So that can not be the problem anymore. However, the error message kept returning.
So I'm pretty much convinced it must have something to do with explorer.exe, the msi-program, compatability-issues and the C++ packages. How to proceed now from here?
Should I uninstall the C++ 2012 package? If so, can I do that safely? Do I need a newer version of the C++ packages? Where can I find it?
Please, help me out? I most thankfully await your answer(s).

    The error message is stating:

I have a different morther board now. Fry's Electronics sometimes has bad equipment. I am now using an ASUS P4B266 which is on the HCL. The bad one was an ASUS P4B(x), I can not remember what the last letter was. I know it was on the HCL.
We also detemined the CD's where bad and we ordered new ones. What I understand from Sun support is the error message typically means bad media or incompatible hardware.
What we are having problems with now is determining what command we need to use to mount an Adtron SDDS removable SCSI drive. We know the mounting points are incorrect and can not figure out how to disable the automounting taking place when a PC card is inserted into the slot. A file manager window appears stating a unnamed_rmdisk. The only thing we can do to the PC card is read/write data to/from it. We can not format the PC card with any type of file system. If you have any advise, please pass it along. Sun support is working on it, but it as been over two weeks now with no results.

  • HT203322 Still having issues with installing Yosemite after deleting "Backups.backupdb" on the internal hard drive.  I have restarted multiple times and cannot find any other back up files, yet I still receive the same error message during installation.

I am using a 2011 iMac on 10.6.8. I recently downloaded the Yosemite upgrade and during the installation process ran into the "this disk is used for time machine backups". I ejected the external drive I use for time machine backups and turned off time machine in the application. I then followed the instructions of the help article (OS X: Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups - Apple Support) by moving the folder "Backups.backupdb" that I was able to find on my internal hard drive to the trash. I have restarted several times after completing this process. I am still running into the same error during the installation process. I have searched the hard drive for any other backups and I cannot find any. I searched the hard drive using the command cmd-shift-g and searched for “backups.backupdb” and was unable to find any folders or files. Any other suggestions?

I have resolved the problem - I did not actually delete the "backups.backupdb" folder, I only deleted the contents of the folder.  I must have only searched on the user account for the folder after I thought I had deleted it.  Thank you for the assistance everyone and I apologize for the inconvenience!

  • Windows 8.1 Update from Windows 8 Giving Error Message During Installation

I was instructed to use a generic Windows 8.1 key, and then change it to my Windows 8 key after installation. But, at either 94% or 96%, it gives me the following error during the installation:
    Windows 8.1 Update has failed.
I have tried everything online and can't find anyway around it. In the meantime, all of my Windows Store apps are broken, and thus I can't update from the Windows Store. I have the correct ISO files from http://microsoft.com/ and I even have the option to
install Windows 8.1 from a program that was automatically added to the "Classic Start Menu" that was presumably placed by Windows automatically. No matter how I attempt to install it, it fails. I would really appreciate it if someone would help me
    soon.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
I was instructed to use a generic Windows 8.1 key, and then change it to my Windows 8 key after installation.
    What's the meaning of it?
Did you update from Windows 8 operating system from Window store?
Please locate to %WINDIR%\Panther, see if there is any clue in the setupact.log and setuperr.log.
Meanwhile, please refresh or reset your original Windows 8 system to ensure it's complete and correct.
Then retry to update to Windows 8.1 from Windows Store.

    Hello,
are you sure you are in the right forum? This forum is dedicated to Database XE, not Clusterware. Could you explain in detail what you are trying to install?
And it could help to know on which operating system you are trying to install. Did you ensure that all prerequisites have been fulfilled?
