Let us compare browsers...

I'm looking for an alternate primary browser to Internet Explorer for reasons that may be obvious to most of you but haven't yet affected my use. I know about the end of Microsoft support but beyond that I'm satisfied with IE for my low-end uses--no big graphics/video, interactive gaming, cross-platform networking. ITunes and music-sharing is as heavy duty as we get.
I'm looking for comparisons of the relative merits of the common browsers at use in our G-3 world, the list to include Safari, Mozilla products (Firefox, Camino), Opera, iCab to start and those probably covers the bases unless their are strong recommendations for something else.
Any such websites or your own experience much appreciated.

Hello again,
Thought I'd repost some of my thoughts in this "proper" thread in case anyone besides you and me is looking ...
I personally like Camino better than Safari. For one thing, I don't like the brushed metal look. For another thing, it's faster and smoother, significantly in my experience. Just add Camitools and it has all the preferences you could need. One nice one is the ability to add a variety of other search engines to the search bar at the top, e.g. Google Mac, Apple KB, etc., so you have a drop-down menu of search sites/engines available right there. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/
Another browser I use frequently is Omniweb. It's not free, but it comes built-in with the ability to customize preferences for individual websites. Just click on the corner of the specific webpage window and voila, a preference pane for that site drops down on the bottom half of the screen. This is important for me with a slow dialup connection. Most sites, I want to not load photos. But some sites are important with photos. Ditto with popups. And you can also set it to emulate other browsers if necessary. http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/
So those are my two preferred browsers....

  • Dunning Letter on Receivables Aging SAP B1 2007

    You run the customer receivables aging report and double click a row on receivables aging report window. You highlight one row, there is no letter checkbox compare to SAP 2005 A. There is no Dunning Letter PLD as well. Therefore dunning letter report cannot be previewed.
    Does this letter checkbox and dunning letter PLD is not available in SAP 2007 A?
    Thanks,

    Used for: indicating the dunning level linked to the document/transaction and creating a dunning letter if required.
                             Availability in
                             SAP B1 2007 A or B    Functionality changed?
    New installations        N/A                   No

  • Compare two columns between two tables

    Hi all,
    I have two separate datasets in Table 1 and Table 2.
    Both datasets have Column A First name and Column B Last name in common.
    The data in the subsequent columns is different.
    Some of the people listed in each table are the same.
    I want to delete the people from Table 1 who are in table 2.
    If I run a formula like this =COUNTIF(Table 1 :: A2:A200, A2) I can return a 1 or 0, use conditional formatting to colour that cell, sort the table and delete all the rows containing 1.
    However that only checks for First Name.
    What I need to do is check if First name AND Last name in Table 1 are the same as First Name AND Last Name in Table 2 - and then return a True of False (1 or 0 or anything) in a separate column.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Presumably this lets me compare multiple values across multiple tables also?
    Moich,
    As you will see as you become familiar with this function, it can only count rows in one table. The comparison (criteria) values can come from anywhere, but what you are counting are "records" that meet the multiple criteria. A record is one row. I think that was your question, but I'm not positive.
    I can't seem to find how to insert formulas into the conditional rules.
    You'll have to put the formulas elsewhere and refer to them with simple comparisons.

  • How to compare 1 function in 2 different progs in debugging

    I'm working with ECC6.0 and I was wondering if there is a neat way to compare a function with variable values in debugging with another function in debugging.
    I have build an z programm which uses the function CV100_DOCUMENT_SEARCH
    I give or at least I try to give alle the values in the same manner as this function is working in tcode CV04N
    somehow I still don't get any results back in my zprogramm while all the variables are the same . is there perhaps an easy way to compare the variable and table values from CV04N with the variables and table values from my z programm ??
    I'm getting nuts checking all the variables from the structures between the 2 programms by clicking on every one and scrolling down all the time
    ofcourse points for the one who prevents me from getting rsi on these kind of things

    yep I know that option for downloading to excel but still when you have multiple structures or tables then it's still a lot of work.
    it would be handy if you could just set all the data in debugging for a specific funtion to testdata for that function. and also from the other program and let sap compare both of the datasets perhaps an idea for the next release ??
    oh and I solved the problem with the function above
    in the function
      CALL FUNCTION 'CV100_DOCUMENT_SEARCH'
        EXPORTING
          max_rows              = restrict
    the global variable restrict is used inside the function (instead of max_rows) which caused it to return no results.
    thank god it's almost weekend
    kind regards

  • Compare / Difference tool by Oracle or third party

    Is there any tool or option available using which I can compare the data/table existing in my Oracle database (on-premise) to the data/tables in my Oracle Cloud DB instance. I have tried SQL Developer with the ‘Database Difference’ option, but it just let me compare my local Oracle DBs and doesn’t list the Cloud DB under the source/destination drop down list. I have also the same with the Red-Gate tool for Oracle but that too didn't result in success.

    Hi -
    The issue with other tools (and SQL Developer) is that you can only access the Database Cloud through RESTful Web Services, not SQL*Net, so access has to be specifically implemented for these tools. We already did some of the work for SQL Developer, which is why you have some capabilities with Cloud Connections, but we are moving towards full (within the limits of security lockdowns) SQL Developer support. I can't speak for the other tools, but since SQL Developer is in the same development organization as the Database Cloud, I would think it would hit there first.
    Thanks for your interest.

    Hello,
    Randomly i can't compare files anymore in VS 2012 and only a restart of VS helps.
    The error message is:
    Microsoft Visual Studio
    One or both of these files are not text files and cannot be opened in the comparison window.

    C:\t\E\src\EFA_Integration\Solution\DefaultCustomer\DefaultCustomerSolution.sln
    The contents of the two files are different.
    OK
    Whats wrong here and how can i fix this?
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang

    Same issue here. Can't find a pattern to reproduce but it occurs and only a VS2012 restart will let you compare any file again.
    I have VS2012 running against a TFS2012, TFS 2010 power tools installed.
    3. Can you open the files in notepad?
    YES, both
    4. Do you compare a local file and a server file?
    YES, Source path is filled out with the server location, Target path with the local
    5. Check the file in temp folder when you get this error.
    Checked, I can use winmerge effectively between the same 2 files VS is complaining about
    6. Is there any detail event log relate to this issue?
    No, couldn't find anything on the event logs

  • How to compare and sync 2 folders or entire disk drives?

    Hi
    How should I go about comparing and syncing entire drives or folders? I have looked for programs that would do this as it dosnt look like tiger does it, But none of the programs seems to be well documentet or ub writen (im on a mbp).
    I dont whant to use automator as Im not familiar with it and I whant good control over wich parameters should be used to compare (date ceated/modifyed and so on).
    Is there anyway to do this in tiger natively or will leopard do it?
    The solution needs to be reliable as this is data I cant recreate, but to much data to compare each folders manual.
    I really hope you guys can help asap

    My biggest problem is none of those programs lets you compare 2 folders and tell you what the difrences are. I need to go over alot of folders and some I dont whant to sync some I do. some folders will have difrent names but exact same content. for those I need some program that compares the 2 folders and not just syncing the overall wich would just copy the one folder to the other as I would apear difrent.
    Disk order is the program I so far have found that seems to be able to it, only I cant get it to it and I havnt been able to find any documentation on the program. So any alternatives would be great.
    Hope I made myself clear and understandable

  • Little things keep breaking my pages.

    I'm using a template from Muse Themes (Vignette).
    When making minor updates, invariably I break the page. Let's compare.
    Here is a page as it looks on my desktop:
    Here is the same page published to BC:
    Annnnnd here is how it looks on Bluehost.
    Notes:
    Multiple browsers used, with histories and caches cleared - Chrome, Safari, Fox.
    Dark rectangle resized often so as to avoid "width=100%" trap. Also tried it at 100%. Obviously it should not be overlapping the text, nor should the text be reformatting to sidebar width.
    Behavior repeats itself in ALL possible FTP scenarios: Upload to FTP host > Modified files only, Upload to FTP host > All files, and Export to HTML and then upload with Cyberduck (and Overwrite).
    Waiting for server to recache yields nothing.
    Have used with Dreamhost and Bluehost, with CloudFlare on and CloudFlare off.
    Persistent resizing/moving of graphics is the ONLY thing that fixes the problem. The change is typically trivial, a few px one way or the other.
    Today, however, NOTHING is helping the situation. (UPDATE: I was able to resize the rectangle vertically and this solved the problem. If you're thinking this element was smaller than overlapping elements, it wasn't. I always extend this element until it "bumps," or slightly moves, the footer element.)
    This has gone on for months! I've scoured the Adobe forums countless times and tried countless fixes. And now my one ace-in-the-hole, tweaking graphics, is failing me.
    My renewal for Muse Themes is coming up, and I must know if I can continue to use Muse or should cut bait and redo the site in WP.
    Note to Adobe Support: I did send a zip file of my HTML this morning to muse-ts, from my address [email protected] Thanks.

    Hello,
    I'm Steve Harris from MuseThemes.com - thanks for notifying me of this problem through the MuseThemes support forum (http://support.musethemes.com).
    This looks like a classic case of "overlapping elements" causing weird layout shifts on publish.  I actually covered a similar issue in a blog post way back in October 2011 (link below, tip #3)
    http://www.muse-themes.com/blogs/news/4232972-top-5-adobe-muse-design-tips-and-tricks
    To summarize the blog post, what I would suggest is to try and group all of your elements in the Muse file.  We took a close look at the code Muse is generating, and it appears that grouping elements (select elements > right click > group) will actually wrap them in a "div" tag, which acts as a container to hold content together.  We've fixed countless situations like this by grouping together blocks of content (images & text) to keep them from shifting on export.
    As a customer of MuseThemes.com, our support team would be happy to have a look at your Muse working file to find a fix.  Feel free to send it our way in the MuseThemes support portal.
    Cheers,

  • How we get all string from substring,.,.

    Hi,
    I am doing one application . In that i have to enter substrubg in search user inputfield and then i click on search . Not i want to show all user which contain that substring . So please guide in that.
    Example...
    Like i am writing "ab*" then all users comes which contain ab substring.
    Regards,
    Gurprit Bhatia

    Hi,
    Try this logic.
    String searchString="ab*";
    searchString=searchString.subString(0,searchString.length-2);
    String[] matchedArray=new matchedArray(100);
    int j=0;
    //Let your compare strings be in an array strArray
    for(int i=0;i<strArray.length;i++){
    String temp=strArray<i>.subString(0,searchString.length-2);
    if(temp.equals(searchString)){
      matchedArray[j]=strArray<i>;
      j++;
    Then display the matched String array.
    Hope it helps.

  • Follow-up to moving the photos

    As I mentioned in my previous post, I also copies my pictures onto an external drive (with the sidecar files) and thought that by importing them, I'd recreate the original database.
    Of course, that didn't happen because of what's in the database and NOT in the XMP files.  I made some changes to the photos on the external drive through that external drive's LR catalogue.
    Is anyone aware of a tool that will let me compare the two catalogues, database to database, and tell me the differences?
    I suppose asking if anyone knows the schema, too, would be helpful, but it's unnecessary if it's embedded in the tool.
    Thanks

    If my understanding of database updating is correct, unless I can specify conditions under which the target database should accept the new values, the contents of the partially valid database on the external drive will overwrite valid data.
    Once I get this straightened out, backups are not an issue.  This correction is a bit of a problem, though.

  • Page Displays Different in Firefox

    I am new to web site development and new to Dreamweaver.  When I display the webpage in FireFox 3.6.3, the header picture shows below the logo on the left.  It displays fine in IE.  BTW, the font choice is not mine I tried to talk the person out of it.
    http://www.mulberrylanehillsdale.com/sample3.html

    You answered to the most little part of my comment (there was a suggestion for paged medias or for rendering on smaller displays, but this was not so critical, you should have seen it).
    The main point was about font smooting, that you have enabled in ALL browsers, EXCEPT Firefox on Windows.
    And this gives really a bad/unfair view of what is really Firefox on Windows.
    If one wanted to test a page for Firefox on Windows, he would certainly expect to see what he really sees on its PC, now most often with a flat panel display with pixel precision, but certainly not the non-smoothed rendering which is only for those users that have CRT displays.
    That's why I was not suggesting  really an expansion of the number of browsers. But:
    - if you have renderings for some browsers WITHOUT font smoothing, offer it on ALL browsers, to be fair
    - if you also have renderings for some browsers WITH font smoothing, offer it on ALL browsers, to be fair
    In other words, it should be a generic display option, that is independant of the browsers tested, and that should be selected by your users in their preferences, according to their own preferences: if a browser only supports one option (with or without font smooting), just display this version, otherwise, use the selected option on all compared browsers.
    And you will then see that most of your users are already preferring the pages rendered on any browser with the font smoothing enabled.
    Don't use the Microsoft's ClearType option, which uses subpixel precision, as it would require you to manage at least two versions: for display on your site with a RGB panel, or with a BGR panel : subpixel order would then have to be selected, adding two other versions of the same page for the same browser on the same OS... Instead just offer the pixel-level only smoothing, where smoothing applied equally to all R/G/B subpixel color planes, so that a black font on white background will be smoothed only using only "white-gray-black" full pixels without position-dependant colors).
    Side notes:
    For the long term, note that subpixel precision will be deprecated/obsoleted sooner or later (including on small display panels such as mobile phones, that will be the first to offer the highest pixel densities):
    It should be up to the display panel technology to map internally the standard sRGB colors (computed by softwares or in digital image formats or in web browsers and other computer GUI interfaces) to actual subpixels in a pixel (which may have different patterns, different coverage, different relative positions, possibly also 4 subpixels or more, just like with new Yamaha HDTV sets that use a non rectangular grid for the arrangement of subpixels, and that also use an additional yellow or white subpixel). Subpixel rendering technologies in software will also be deprecated because the display panel technologies will continue to improve to offer higher pixel densities, up to a level where the position of subpixels will not be noticeable : only the full-pixel smoothing will remain as it will reduce a lot the CPU/GPU cost of rendering and will be much faster to compute, using also less memory for finally the same resolution.
    Subpixel smoothing anyway is patented, and only a temporary "cheap" solution that can be implemented in CPU/GPU software, as long as flat panels don't have a higher pixel density (i.e. measured in full pixels per inch, not in colored subpixels per inch). These subpixel software technologies are in fact a nocive brake to allow the technical evolution of hardware display panels (the existing panels using rectangular R/G/B girds arranged in parallel vertical stripes have a poor color gamut, and display noisy color artefacts, as demonstrated by ClearType). The true evolution will not be in software but in hardware display panels, that will still benefit a lot from full-pixel font-smoothing only:
    - for example, the existing software subpixel artificially smoothing triples the horizontal resolution (but effectively only doubles the apparent horizontal resolution, due to correction of color artefacts), but do not increase the vertical resolution which remains poor. This gives an anisotropic result, which is desastrous for natural photographs or videos).
    - newer hardware subpixels arrangements (such as Yamaha's) can effectively double BOTH the horizontal and vertical resolution (and not just for text, but also for photos), using exactly the SAME subpixel density, and will produce a much better isotropic result without color artefacts (fair for high-fidelity colors and smooting of photos and video): this means similar costs of production of these panels, that should already be available in shops today and on notebooks, if this was only compatible with subpixel rendering softwares such as Microsoft's ClearType. and for now, we can't still have them on cheap PCs and notebooks, but only on the most expensive HDTV sets (notably the largest 1080p screens, whose size is more than 35 inches): note that these HDTV sets are also used for computer display (notably as a secondary "theater" screen for playing digital videos on online VOD contents) and for them the subpixel font-smoothing softwares have absolutely no use, only full-pixel smoothing will work correctly.

  • Change in "Save As" Behavior

    When I am working on a Ai file and SAVE AS pdf for example, a pdf is created in the location I choose and I am still working on the Ai file. I could have sworn that before the file I was working on became the pdf, therefore closing the AI file. I noticed this change a couple of weeks ago. Am I just getting senile or is there something wrong with Illustrator or my computer?

    Let’s compare InDesign and Illustrator. We’ll work with an open file, save (or export) a low-res PDF to a different directory, edit the file, save a PDF again, then save and close the working file.
    InDesign:
    File > Export
    Choose directory
    Choose PDF
    Click OK
    Choose export preset
    Click OK
    Edit file
    File > Export
    Click OK
    Click Replace
    Click OK
    Save
    Close
    Illustrator
    File > Save As
    Choose directory
    Choose PDF
    Click OK
    Choose export preset
    Click OK
    Click OK
    Edit file
    File > Save As
    Choose directory
    Choose PDF
    Click OK
    Click Replace
    Choose export preset
    Click OK
    Click OK
    Save
    Close
    Save
    Say, “Oh fück, I just trashed my Illustrator file!”
    Reopen previously saved Illustrator file
    Open last saved PDF
    Attempt to repeat the last edits to the Illustrator file (This can be several dozen or several hundred steps)
    Promise yourself that if you ever get rabies you’ll bite everyone who works at Adobe.
    In other words, when you save a PDF you are no longer editing the original Illustrator file. You must either: repeat the Save As and change the format back to Illustrator; be sure to Save before doing a Save As to PDF, close the file after saving a PDF, then reopen the Illustrator file; or use Save a Copy and remember to edit the filename to remove “ copy” along with all the other extra steps.
    Export is, in every way, a much easier and safer way to produce a PDF proof. Somehow, this blatantly obvious advantage has escaped the awareness of every person with clout or influence on the Illustrator team. That level of incompetence gets no sympathy or mercy from me.

  • How to keep the PPC iBook up to date on browser--Linux or what else?

    Folks:
    Got two older PPC units that I'd like to keep going forever; just went through what would be the ultimate updates for my usual browsers--Camino, Sea Monkey, FF--as far as 10.4.11 will take me. I figure that in 6 months or so those browsers will begin to not provide total functionality on web sites as they do when I don't do the regular updates. I spent a little time looking into Linux, including Ubuntu which on the boot CD was OK, but when I tried to install on an external HD I got an error code . . . . Any other options in terms of installing an open source program to run next to 10.4.11 that would let me update browsers to current security but still have the user friendliness of OSX? Mostly it's about checking emails on the two 10.4.11 units and I'm satisfied with what they do, but wondering if there's a way to not partition the HD and yet be able to run a Linux version of the browser? I've heard that "OSX is Unix, which is Linux" but I'm a GUI driver kinda guy and wondering what KDE or BSD would mean as far as getting to newer browsers, at least. Would rather not buy a PPC Leopard install disc, wasn't too impressed with the wife's Leopard computer, seemed buggy. Any user friendly GUI options for PPC that could be had for . . . ah, "open source" type prices? Also looking at Debian Squeeze and/or the Squeeze with MintPPC option, but I'd like to test them on an external HD boot before installing on the computer; is that possible to do? Thanks.

     I really can't tell you anything about Linux. What I would suggest is this: Install Xcode, or the Developer Tools, from the media that came with the iBook, and then install Fink from here:
    http://www.finkproject.org/
    Once you've done that, you can build reasonably up-to-date versions of X11, KDE and/or Gnome, and most of the usual Linux applications, which will indeed run alongside the Mac OS. In fact, I think you can run X11 full-screen, which will make your iBook almost indistinguishable from a Linux box, but it will still be a Mac.
    @LD, et al:
    I just wanted to post back on this topic, over a year later to update the process that I've gone through since then.  Quickly I'd have to say that the "fink" idea was not worth the time and effort that I went through and within a short period of time fink was ejected . . . as not practical.  Firstly it took some 8 hours to try to install the system, and then every 3 hours or so some dependencies would break and I'd have to post a question on the fink forum and basically received some very condescending attitudes . . . especially considering how busted up fink was for ppc . . . .  Secondly, by the Fall of 2011 it looked like fink was no longer supporting PPC, meaning that even if after the many hours of having the processor spinning madly to install . . . it would no longer be update-able and therefore it defeated the purpose of finding a long term system that would continue to work with my PPC computers . . . .  I would simply say topeople looking for the upgrade-able browser in PPC to not go in the direction of fink . . . I guess unless you know exactly how it all works . . . .
    I then started looking at Linux distros, Ubunutu, Debian, MintPPC . . . the moderator at MintPPC was very helpful in terms of offering help on his forum to get it set up . . . each of those distros is based on debian anyway.  I partitioned my HD in Disc Utility, reinstalled OSX using CCC and then installed MintPPC, which took 4 hours using netinstall CD.  I did that first in my iBook . . . needed to install the proper Xorg.conf file and a few other things to get wireless working and things seemed to be going well . . . .  The iMac was very difficult to get a working Linux OS . . . many hours to try to get a system working . . . eventually I went to a straight Debian Wheezy system on the iMac and it was working OK until the recent system upgrades . . . .  I eventually switched the iBook over to Deb Wheezy running next to an OSX partition and only proble is wireless right now . . . .  And, I've got an LMDE  Linux MInt system running on my MacBookPro . . . which has been the most problem free system after a few installation hiccups . . . .  The iMac again is causing difficulties as the display drivers are proprietary . . . in spite of Apple's lack of support for the PPC computers . . . .
    Ultimately, its been a learning experience . . . but a time consuming one . . . and in terms of my question, the gentleman who recommended simply using Ten4Fox probably offered the best advice--OSX does do the best job of running its computers, but unfortunately they don't offer any upgrade or support for the PPC and so the question remains, will the computer live long enough to where Linux will be necessary?  Or, will the computer expire long before the issues with Ten4Fox not allowing plug-ins would becoome a problem??  Even this AM I was trying to look at some simple powerpoint slides online and none of my OSX PPC browsers would give me a flashplayer new enough to do that . . . so it's growing closer to where less and less will be do-able by OSX 10.4.11 . . . .  But, fink is not the way for peole looking for more life out of their PPC computers . . . that much is very clear . . . .

  • Cache file(pdf) in user's browser using Servlet -Cookie, or Session

    How can I save a file (pdf) in the cache of a browser (IE 6) in a user's computer? I am using Servlet and Tomcat 4.1.24. PDF file is sitting in server (remote computer) under a URL space.
    The idea is to NOT to download the pdf file on user's computer (from the remote server) if the user has a cached copy of the pdf file and pdf file in the server is the same as the pdf file in the browser. If cached pdf is different from pdf in browser, or, if the user does not have that pdf file in cache, then download pdf file from the server.
    Can I come up with a way to use Cookie class? Cookie class does not have an API which will let me save a file in it. I could have saved the pdf file in the Cookie with 999999999 setMaxAge. Is storing that pdf file in session the only choice? I do not see session serving my purpose - session should not be valid for a longgg duration e.g. week or month.
    Also, how would I create a file whne I am given a URL to that file.
    URL fileInServer = new URL("http://www.myDomain.com/myWebApp/PDF/my.pdf);

If that file is not in the cache, or if they are not the same, then, I need to save the pdf file from the server into user's browser cache.
    I am writing all that code in Servlet. I can save the file in session. I do NOT know how else can I cache the file, other than saving it in session. I can not think of any setHeader() which will let me save a file in user's browser cache. Headers like If-Modified-Since are of no help, as it does not let me compare file in browser cache with the file in server.
    Also, how would I create a file, given a URL to that file.
    URL fileInServer = new URL("http://www.myDomain.com/myWebApp/PDF/my.pdf");
    URLConnection conn = fileInServer.openConnection();
    Do I use getContent()? What are the steps after that?
    Thanks,
    Sam
