Libvirt networking [solved]

I installed libvirt from AUR and I don't seem to be having any luck getting networking going with it.  I thought I would see if any one has any ideas.
Whenever I start libvirtd, I get the following error:
# libvirtd
libvir: QEMU error : internal error failed to add iptables rule to allow DHCP requests from 'virbr0' : Invalid argument
Failed to autostart network 'default': internal error failed to add iptables rule to allow DHCP requests from 'virbr0' : Invalid argument
$ brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
I tried adding the virbr0 bridge and I get the following:
# brctl addbr virbr0
# brctl stp virbr0 on
# brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
virbr0 8000.000000000000 yes
# libvirtd
libvir: QEMU error : internal error cannot create bridge 'virbr0' : File exists
Failed to autostart network 'default': internal error cannot create bridge 'virbr0' : File exists
So I'm guessing that virbr0 should be automatically set-up by libvirt.  Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get libvirt setting-up networks for me?

I figured it out.  I was missing the iptables package and the network is coming up now.

  • Samsung and Networking solved

    Hi all,
    I'm not sure if this was ever solved. Some months ago a lot of people in here had problems with their MIDlets connecting to the network. Well, if you're on the cingular network I do have a solution. (The same works for T-Mobile but I don't have the APN setting).
    On your Samsung type in: *#9998*5282#
    This will take you to a special menu. Choose GPRS. Then select APN option and edit the content. The NEW content should say wap.cingularExit the menu and run your MIDlet. Works like a charm.

    Sounds like Samsung will SEND you a replacement door - free - so you will not be without your phone at all. Now this may also depend on how you approach Samsung.
    The $100 sounds like the deductible if you file a claim for replacement of the whole device through Asurion.
    You choose - free door from Samsung, refurbished insurance replacement with $100 deductible, or do nothing and complain about it.

  • Wpa_supplicant in wired network [SOLVED AGAIN]

    Hi to all!
    Here is a problem with using wpa_supplicant in wired network. My internet provider uses IEEE8021X EAP MD5 for authentication. Recently I used wpa_supplicant with another Linux and it worked. Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf:
    ap_scan=0
    network={
    key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
    eap=MD5
    identity="login"
    password="password"
    I used wired driver and all was working. Now in Arch I cant get internet connection. What I have to do to fix it?
    Here is the problem solvation in Ubuntu. But in Arch there is no such directory /etc/network/ and file 'interfaces' in it. And I suppose that in Arch it must be different. Who did face same problem?
    Thanks.
    PROBLEM IS SOLVED. Internet connection works. I cant show files now, when I setup something with browser I'll show how I solved this problem. Now I must use MS XP for posting here [

    My previous configuration did not work well, often I had to run wpa_supplicant and dhcp client manually (maybe always - it's possible it never worked ). After slight inspection of netcfg2 code, it seems that wired 802.1x is not yet supported natively, and I also realized why my config could not work. The following network profile is now working well for me. Someone might find it helpful.
    # this is /etc/network.d/my8021x
    CONNECTION="ethernet"
    DESCRIPTION="My 802.1x wired connection"
    INTERFACE=eth0
    IP="dhcp"

    _WPA_CONF=/etc/wpa_supplicant_my8021x.conf
    _WPA_TIMEOUT=5
    PRE_UP="wpa_supplicant -Dwired -i$INTERFACE -c$_WPA_CONF -B; wpa_cli logon; sleep $_WPA_TIMEOUT"
    POST_DOWN="wpa_cli -i$INTERFACE logoff; wpa_cli terminate"
    .. and my /etc/rc.conf:

  • Very slow 3G speeds with internal card on Vodafone network: solved!

    I'm running the internal 3G card on the Vodafone network in Australia (ThinkPad x200s, Vista) and a couple of weeks ago it slowed right down to less than dialup speed for no reason, and the speed hasn't picked up since.
    I finally figured out how to resolve the issue today. I downloaded the Vodafone Internet Connect utlility and now my Internet speeds are restored to 3G speed. However, if I use ThinkVantage Access Connections utility to connect to the Vodafone HSDPA network, the 3G speed crawls again. It appears this is a bug in Acess Connections utility and I'm not sure why it appeared (probably related to a Vista update).
    Anyway, if you come across this issue, you should download and connect using the Vodafone Internet Connection utility, which contains many handy features including a usage meter and SMS features.

    By process of elimination I realised that the only cause of the sudden slowness must be software that I had installed recently. The only software I had added was a wifi utility to detect available networks--open or protected. Unlikely as it sounds, quitting the utility (which I had set to load on startup) made a dramatic improvement in performance.

  • Adding Network Manager tray for connecting Wireless Network (solved)

    I just installed GDM, gnome, gnome-extra packages but I do not see the network applet in the top right corner.
    I also installed 'network-manager-applet' but I still do not see it.
    Currently I have been using wifi-menu everytime and it works fine that way.

    Hello! On arch everything is done manually:
    Start the programs:
    # systemctl start NetworkManager
    $ nm-applet
    If you want it to persist use systemctl and other options.

  • C6380 doesn't find network *solved*

    I successfully setup our new Photosmart C6380 on my wireless network several days ago, but today the printer no longer will find any wireless network. I went back and reset the printer to default settings and ran through the Wireless Setup Wizard, but it cannot find my network. 3 out of 4 of my computers are connected to the network. The printer is sitting next to the computer that can't connect... maybe it caught whatever problem that computer had.
    I tried entering in our SSID manually in case someone had set it to not broadcast, but it still did not find it.
    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
    SOLUTION FOUND - I turned the printer off & then on again........... (thought I'd share that excellent troubleshooting step)

    Hi friscojatt,
    According to your system profile, you are running OS
    X 10.2.X. You cannot setup an Express with anything
    less than Panther (10.3). This is from the Airport
    Express Setup Guide:
    What You Need to Get Started
    To set up AirPort Express using a Macintosh, you must
    have the following:
    A Macintosh computer with an AirPort or AirPort
    Extreme Card installed
    Mac OS X v10.3 or later
    iTunes 4.7 (included on the AirPort Express CD) or
    later
    The iTunes is needed if you want to stream music to a
    stereo system but is not needed for internet
    connection. It would be a good idea for you to
    search further in the discussions or start a new
    post. Good luck
    17 in.
    iMac G5 ALS (1.8 GHz) Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    iMac G3 DV (400 MHz), Airport Express, 3rd gen

    I Have Linksys rounter but it use to connect just fine and all of sounden is stop but m other computer can connect just fine

  • AirTunes cut-outs with wired network (solved)

    To whom this may be helpful,
    There are several discussions about Music cut-outs when using the AirTunes, but all of these discussions were focussing on a wire-less connection.
    In my case, however, I have a wired Ethernet connection from my Mac to a 4-port-router, to which the AirPort Express is also connected. I got the first cut-outs about a year ago and it has been gradually getting worse, up to the point where it would cut out after every 5-10 seconds, pausing for 5 seconds. This is when I gave up using AirTunes.
    Next, nothing much happened until I noticed a few weeks ago that my network had become notoriously slow. I first suspected a degrading ADSL connection, but I changed my mind when my router died. It turns out that my network performance was gradually degrading due to problems in my router (probably bad memory, forcing it to drop packages when the checksums were incorrect).
    After having replaced the router, the network is up and running again as before and AirTunes runs smoothly again. With that in mind, you might like to test other units in your network!
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    I buyed 2 of the Airport Extreme, never got them working fine, till yesterday...
    I have A Zyxel ADSL WLAN Router Switch. WPA-PSK as I wanted a secure Network. Both of the AX were connected with static IPs. WLAN was always working fine, but I had many cut outs with airtunes. I wanted a solution with lossles streaming audio with the possibility to connect my Receiver digitally. That's why I bought my first Apple hardware, as I was always told, Apple=Plug'n play. Very frustrating!
    I tried other switches, Routers, WLAN adapters and cards, nothing worked. Airfoil does not support multiple speakers yet, so it's useless for me.
    In the FAQ of the Airtunes, Apple mentioned to use lower security, as some Computers probably do not have enough power to stream music flawlessly. But my Computers really do have enough power! I think the AX does not have enough power to do that. So I created another wireless network with one of my AX. I set the security to WEP-40bit key and joined this new Network with my other AX. Not the best solution, as I'm now connected to the Internet or to the AX to use Airtunes. Cables could fix that problem, but then I could use a wired system instead...
    I use Channel 11 for the AX WLAN (the only clean channel in my area), Multicast to 11, only G mode for Wireless and a 5 characters WEP-40 key and no WDS. Seems to work at the moment.
    I hope this will help others with the cut or drop out problem

    and so on,but I got something like this :community  is not in the list (not exactly the same but you got the idea I guess)
    when I tried to ping the gateway i got : network is unreachable -or something similar.
    At the end-could somebody tell me whats wrong whit my configuration.
    I suppose that the IP-s are the responsable

    here is the next one:
    I install- gnome ;xorg ;xorg-clients ;xorg-apps ;xf86-video-vga (this was not a "clean install"-some errors appears here,don't remember them exactly) , and then a try to make my xorgconfig , but I had no luck!
    I have ATI radeon 9550 128 MB -so i try the ATI  (generic) and ATI radeon
    but the firstone tells that ATI module isn't there.The second tells that radeon module isn't either when I run startx!
    modprobe radeon didn't help me!modeprobe ati-no such module!
    any help?
    PS: shoud I paste the xorg.conf from mandriva to arch?

  • [SOLVED] Unable to net-start "default" network in libvirt (KVM)

    Hi. I've used this tutorial  and have net-define'ed a network from this xml, but when i try to net-start it, i get the following error:
    virsh # net-start default
    error: Failed to start network default
    error: internal error Network is already in use by interface virbr0
    At first i though that some other network has already been defined and auto-started, so i've checked net-list
    virsh # net-list --all
    Name State Autostart
    default inactive no
    Here is the output from $ ip a show dev virbr0
    4: virbr0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
    link/ether ce:1e:b4:54:83:83 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.168.122.1/24 brd 192.168.122.255 scope global virbr0
    I became curious, and found out that dnsmasq was running
    $ ps -ef | ack dnsm | ack -v ack
    nobody 12333 1 0 13:04 ? 00:00:00 dnsmasq --strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-file=/var/run/libvirt/network/default.pid --conf-file= --except-interface lo --listen-address 192.168.122.1 --dhcp-range 192.168.122.2,192.168.122.254 --dhcp-leasefile=/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.leases --dhcp-lease-max=253 --dhcp-no-override
    With that i thought that everything works just fine, and i should try to configure a virtual machine to use the default network.
    EDIT:
    Looks like $ virsh edit fedora and /etc/libvirt/qemu/fedora.xml contain different things. I am pretty confused.
    /etc/libvirt/qemu/fedora.xml
    virsh edit fedora
    virsh # list --all
    Id Name State
    - fedora shut off
    virsh # start fedora

    How can it be started and not started at the same time?

  • Firefox 7 will not open, only shows up in processes, after Oct's Windows 7 update and force restart.

    Been unable to get FF to open out side of it showing up in the processes. No browser window to even tinker with settings. Uninstalled the latest Windows updates, restarted and still won't open. Then uninstalled recent flash update since that updated as well. Still no go. Uninstalled FF, reboot, re-install FF, reboot, still nothing. I have tried opening in safe mode and FF will not open in safe mode either. Same again after turing off firewall and virus protection. Ran virus and spyware programs, nothing came up in those. Ran them again while in safe mode, just in case, and nothing found on my system.
    The Windows and Adobe updates are the only things that have changed on my system since last restart 2 days ago.
    No window, no nothing, only FF in the processes takin up 50% of my CPU and usin 30,000k in memory.
    What else can I try to get my FF back?

    I have the same problem (and with Mozilla Thunderbird) running with Windows Vista OS. The non-opening problem was preceded by a long period where Firefox and other programs were taking absurdly long times, such as one minute, to open. Starting Windows in "safe mode with networking" solves the problems. Similarly, I just found that If I run msconfig.exe and select "diagnostic startup" then Firefox and Thunderbird both start and start up really fast (that is, when most services and startup programs are prevented from starting). However there is no network so they do not connect. I then turned on (in msconfig) enough processes to get networking running and Firefox and Thunderbird still start up really fast.
    I am fairly certain there are no viruses on my computer, so the only other possibility is that some program/registry-entry is preventing the OS from working properly. The problem with windows that it is virtually impossible to find something like this, since the Windows OS has very weak self-diagnostics, and the registry is absurdly complicated with over half a million entries on my computer.
    If you can do a "repair install" then this will probably fix the problem, but I do not think that Vista has this feature. Alternatively an upgrade of the OS might fix it, such as from Vista to Windows 7.

    so i can not understand why dns is not able to resolve ip or whole name for mentioned hostname?

    As I understand it..
    nslookup does a Name Server Lookup - which means asking the DNS to resolve a hostname to an IP address. Which it only can do if it has that hostname/IP mapping.
    In your case, that hostname/IP mapping only exists in /etc/hosts - not in the DNS. Thus the DNS cannot resolve it.

  • Firefox 7 will not open in win xp, after being updated from previous version

    updated to firefox 7 on win XP. now firefox will not open.
    I unstnstalled firefox 7, and re-installed again, but it will not open

  • Acrobat 8 Pro does not support my scanner

    I recently purchased a Xerox Phaser 6180MFP for use on a PC w/XP Pro SP3. When I scan a document from Acrobat 8 (File>Create PDF>From Scanner> I'm asked to save the document, after which the Twain Drive window appears. From here I can Preview the scan, BUT after clicking on Scan, and error window appears with the message: "The unit chosen is not supported."
    On the other hand, I can successfully scan photos from Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6 with the same Phaser 6180MFP scanner.
    Any suggestions?

    Not sure how a network solves the problem. It might be of interest to those here what was determined to be the problem by tech support and the actual changes. Also, info about the scanner that puts it into the network category. I have no idea where a network comes in with a USB device.
