Lightroom Stopped Working - Possible solution

Over the past few days I noticed that my Lightroom 4.2 wouldn't launch. I've read that others have had the same issues. I did an Install / Repair which didn't work. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Nothing worked. I checked to see what I had installed over the past week and it was only a firefox update and a wifi program. I uninstalled these and Lightroom still failed to launch. So... i decided to perform a system restore back to a point early last week. It listed the programs and updates that would be removed and to my surprise there was a Windows Critical update that was performed on 10/30. After I performed the restore Lightroom was up and running again. So if anyone else is experiencing the problem where Lightroom fails to launch, check your Event Viewer, look at the Windows Logs / Application Log and find the Error entries. The General tab might show the following:
Faulting application name: lightroom.exe, version: 4.2.0.11, time stamp: 0x505a0579
Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.325, time stamp: 0x4df2bcac
Exception code: 0x40000015
Fault offset: 0x00000000000761c9
Faulting process id: 0x236c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cdb85a1a203696
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2\lightroom.exe
Faulting module path: C:\windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll
I'm guessing that the Critical update messed up something that Lightroom is dependent on. Hey, it's not the first time MS issued a Critical update that messed up something else.
Hope this helps anyone else having this issue.

Thank you for your post.  I'm sure it will help others, especially the mention that some files may be left in your Plug-ins subfolder even if all plug-ins are removed via their installers.
We have occasionally seen others report here that Extensis Suitcase Fusion has caused some problems as well.  You should report the issue to them and see if they have (or have plans to release) a version that solves the crash.

  • Adobe reader has stopped working, any solutions?

I am having an issue with Adobe reader X.
I open the program and it works normally, nothing to repport.
Each time I close the program I receive the error message "Adobe Reader has stopped working)
    I am on Win 7 (32bit) SP1
    any ideas/solutions for this situation?
    Thank you in advance

I have been having this problem recently (Vista HP fully updated 32 bit) with Reader X. This was a clean install and no 3rd party reg cleaners etc have ever been used. I use Microsoft Security Essentials.
This problem seems intermitent. Yesterday it happened nearly every time I closed a pdf. Today it hasn't done it once so far. When the problem first happened a week or so back I tried the solutions offered (turn off protected mode) and it did not work. I tried "repair Adobe install" and that too did nothing. Windows problem reports keep saying Adobe updates available... they are not.
Apart from the message saying that it crashed on closing there is no outward sign of anything amiss. I did however open task manager while the error box was still displayed and it showed two Adobe processes as still running. When I used the error box option to "close program" these processes ended.
I can't help but feel these problems coincided with a recent round of updates although that may of course, be just that, a coincidence.

  • Photoshop and Lightroom stop working.

I am using CS4, Lightroom 2.5, and Lightroom 3.0 beta.  My operating system is Windowsw Vista 64bit.  Two day ago all 3 products stop loading.  I get the error mesaage that the programs have stop working.  I have used the suggestions that Abode support suggested but no cigar.
Windows Vista has the lastest and greatest updates, so does the two Lightroom verision.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Go to Start and type in msconfig in start search. Click on the startup tab. Look to see if the entry CS4 Service manager is checked. If not check it and reboot the computer. I don't have lightroom but look to see if lightroom has a simular entry.
Now go back to start and type in services in start search and click on that. There should be 2 Flexnet licensing service entries. Ensure both are set to manual. Lightroom might have some simular entries so do the same(if they are there?) I don't know. Anyways with the 2 flexnet entries click on each one and start them. Make sure your also starting CS4 in the Admin mode too. Right click on the CS4 icon, choose properties then look for the compatibility tab and click on that. Put a check mark in run as admin and hit apply and then ok to close out. Then run PS CS4 64 bit to see if it starts. ensure your copy of PS CS4 is updated to 11.0.1.

  • Itunes "has stopped working" windows solution? HELP ME

this has beeng going on for about a week, one day i went to itunes and all of all sudden said itunes has stopped working. I have uninstalled itunes and quicktime, and reinstalled. I also searched the forums and did everything what everyone suggests. I located all the files removed them, did a virus check, spyware, adware. Installed itunes and then quick time separtely but still nothing. I just dont know what else to do. Do i have to whipe my whole hard drive and start from scratch. I dont care about my songs because they arent from itunes but just imported cds i just feel like somewhere there is a corrupt itunes file or what not. please someone help me, i dont like having my ipod work with windows media player?
    HELP HELP

Ok, the person above had the right idea:
Basically you need to remove ALL traces of iTunes and quicktime before reinstalling. Since you have Vista, its a little bit of a pain in the butt.
    1) Go to your control panel and open "Program and Files" or whatever it is
    2) Uninstall iTunes but do not reboot the computer yet.
    3) Uninstall Quicktime, and any other apple products (Software Update and Media Devices)
    4) Reboot.
    5) Open "My Computer" and then your main drive (typically C:), scroll down to "Program Files." Verify iTunes and Quicktime folders do not exist. If they still exist, delete them.
    6) Go back to C: and highlight the "Windows" folder
    7) Go to the folder "System 32", and delete the Quicktime information in there.
    8) Next, go to "Windows/User" and highlight each individual user's AppDate folder. Delete any "Apple" folders (it should only be Quicktime and iTunes information).
    9) Finally, go to your user "Music" and move all your music to another location. Delete the iTunes cache files, including artwork. Reboot. You do not "have" to reboot, but why not.
    10) Reinstall iTunes and Quicktime.
Please note: If you have just installed Ace Mega Codecs, that may be causing a conflict. It may just be a coincidence that I installed this (twice) and iTunes went down (twice), but who knows.
I hope that fixed your problems!

  • Adobe Reader Has Stopped Working Possible Fix

Hey, I just had a battle with the adobe program on a computer, it would go to open, then right away it would show up with the error message:
"Adobe Reader <version> Has Stopped Working" then it sends information and closes.
I fixed my issue by going into the Adobe Reader folder, finding the "Plug-Ins" folder, and there was a duplicate of every plug-in in there, so it was trying to load them.  As soon as I deleted the duplicated plug-ins it opened fine.
I just thought I would share this incase anyone else was having problems with adobe, as a Re-install did not seem to fix the problem, If you are having the problem try what I mentioned above.

It was on a Dell laptop, running Windows Vista.  But I'm sure it would work on any machine running any Windows, not sure about linux or MAC's, but if they do have duplicates of the plug-ins and it was crashing I will still suggest it as a fix

  • Lightroom stops working

My lightroom 5.3 on my Windows 7 PC seems to have an on going problem as this is the second time i have contacted Adobe i have a case number does this help? I am mainly editing photos.

Oh, and this is NOT the second time you have contacted Adobe. Messages in this forum are not "contacting Adobe", as the people here do not work for Adobe, we are Lightroom users. If you want to contact Adobe, then you need to contact Adobe, and not this forum.

  • Exchange Admin Center 2013 SP1 worked for a day and then stopped working, possible OAB problems

Here is a problem that has me confused. On a fresh Windows Server 2012 R2, I installed Exchange 2013 SP1. It was successful and for the first day everything was working well. I then installed all security updates. The next day, I could no longer log in to

My first guess is to reset the Outlook Address Book by using the Remove-OabVirtualDirectory Exchange commandlet. But I am not so sure this will work because Exchange worked for a day. Any help understanding what caused the problem (and thus help avoid it
happening again) and how to fix it are appreciated. Thanks.

    hi,
If nothing works try resetting the Virtual Directories.
    For  owa
Open Exchange Management Shell (EMS), and then run the following cmdlet to change the authentication method of the "owa" virtual directory to Windows authentication:
set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "MBX\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false
    -Formsauthentication $false
Run the following command on both the Client Access and Mailbox servers to restart Internet Information Services (IIS):
    iisreset /noforce
    For  ECP
    Start Windows PowerShell.
Type the following commands, and then press Enter after each line:
    Add-PSSnapin *exchange*
Set-EcpVirtualDirectory -Identity "MBX\ecp (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $true -FormsAuthentication $false
Run the following command on both the Client Access and Mailbox servers to restart Internet Information Services (IIS):
    iisreset /noforce
    For Ref: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123752(v=exchg.150).aspx
I did those commands. But remember, the original error I gave was related to the OAB virtual directory, not ECP or OWA. I also did the Remove-EcpVirtualDirectory, Remove-OabVirtualDirectory, and Remove-OwaVirtualDirectory commandlets and the corresponding
EcpVirtualDirectoryOabOwaVirtualDirecoty ones. I still cannot log in to the Exchange Admin Center. And I still have the same original generic unhelpful error message.
However, there are some changes. After I removed and re-added the virtual directories I no longer received the original error logs given above. I now get this log in the event viewer:
Event 2001, MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy
[Owa] Failed to load SSL certificate.
The first logs I gave above always appeared after attempting to log in. This log that I gave appears infrequently and is not connected to any log in events. This log occurs only
after a similar log given below:
Event 1001, MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy
    [Owa] Application Starting.

  • Lightroom 5.5 stops working when I try to Edit Preferences

I installed Lightroom 5.5 a month back. I had no other versions of Lightroom on my computer before that. I have Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on my machine. I want to add Noise Ninja standalone as an External editor and have tried to edit preferences. I use Windows 8.1 on my desktop. Every time I click on Edit->Preferences, Lightroom stops working and exits. I read the forum and once removed the Preferences file and restarted. The problem still continues. I am unable to find a solution.

Thanks Geoff the Kiwi.  Did they forget to include those two DLLs in the installation package?
Nope. Just to be clear, they are Microsoft DLLs which can be and are used by other applications, including Lightroom. In the majority of the "007b" cases that we came across on these forums it was determined that an application called iLivid was heavily implicated in corrupting these two DLLs and thus impacting Lightroom. So Adobe provided this "fix" which simply downloads "clean" versions of those two DLLs.

First off I'm new to Lightroom. I moved up from Elements.
I upgraded to 3.4 and now when I select "develop" Lightroom stops working.
    Any ideas?
I'm running windows 7 home 64 bit all updates are current.
I have a small ssd for a hard drive and therefore removed the old 3.2 directory after the upgrade.

  • Z10 - Rear Camera Autofocus Stopped Working

    Hi,
I have recently noticed that the rear camera on my Z10 has stopped autofocusing. I have close up photos on my phone that I have taken over Christmas, that are perfectly sharp and in focus, but now everything I take is out of focus.
The focusing brackets turn green, but there is no autofocus happening.
I have never dropped this phone and it has always been in a soft protective case. The autofocus seems to have just stopped working, possibly after one of the software updates.
Has anyone else had the same issue? I have searched on Google and found a few threads, but with no solution to fix. I dont really want to have to send my phone away, as I use it as my personal and work phone.
    Thanks.

If none of those things help then it's pretty likely the camera module itself isn't working properly.
