Link to bookmark in MS Word baggage file

[RoboHelp 9]
I'm sure this must have come up before but I haven't found it. I have bookmarks in a Word document, and that document is a baggage file in the current project. How do I insert a hyperlink in my topic that opens the Word doc at a bookmarked location?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike
Assuming it's even possible to open a Word document at a bookmark, one way to accomplish it and leave the document as a document would be to use a Redirect topic.
Just create a topic that will only be used to open the document. Then add the redirect code to the HTML.
Create a totally blank topic. I typically name these topics Redirect_Topicname.HTM so I don't confuse them with other topics. (Change Topicname to something indicating what the topic redirects to.)
Display the HTML code.
Locate the section near the top of the file containing the grouping of META tags.
Insert the following line somewhere in the META tags. It doesn't matter where it is inserted, just as long as the line appears somewhere in the list.
<meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="0;URL=FileName.DOC#bookmark_name">
Hopefully this helps. (and works)
Cheers... Rick

  • My Bookmarks Created in Word 2013 Dont Display in Microsoft Reader

I created some bookmarks in my Word 2013 file and I saved it as a pdf. I re-opened the file and when i open the Bookmark diaglog box my bookmarks show in the list. When I select one and click 'go to' it navigates to the book mark.
However when i open the pdf in Microsoft Reader, I dont see the bookmarks. I right clicked the document, selected more options and the only options that show are rotate and info.
Why can't I access the bookmarks in the reader?

    Hello again,
After working on my problematic document some more, I believe I’ve found the cause of the issue.
@Microsofties – I think this one is either a bug or a dodgy OOTB template…
I noticed that the high CPU usage only seemed to occur when the document’s footer was displayed. Experimenting with some careful scrolling and zooming to hide footer (without actually using the “hide white-space” option) seemed to confirm this so I investigated
    the footer a bit more.
My document was using the standard Word “Facet (Odd Page)” footer template with a couple of fields added to suit my needs, namely “Publish Date” and a page number.
The template seems to be structured such that the content of the footer is inside two nested text boxes (one inside the other). I also noticed previously that this footer template also appears to “jump” up each page and back down again as I scrolled.
So I deleted the footer and its text boxes, and recreated the same content, in the same position (using the standard paragraph alignment tools) by hand without the nested text boxes. This has, so far, fixed the issue!
I also noticed that the CPU usage dropped right down to idle the moment I deleted the nested text boxes.
Altogether, this leads me to conclude that the “Facet (Odd Page)” footer template in Word 2013 is the source of my issue. Specifically, I believe that the use of nested text boxes in this template causes Word’s interactions with the .Net 4.5 WPF to go a
bit nuts, as evidenced by the infinite loop of request for the non-existent “Avalon.Graphics” WPF registry key I mentioned previously.
It would be nice to see some feedback on this one, Microsoft people, if only to know if this is actually a general issue or is specific to my document!
    Thanks, Chris

  • Changing external links by baggaged files

    Hello,
I'm a new user of RoboHelp.
I have generated a web help from a word document, correctly paginated, with titles and good styles.
In the word document, I have many links to external files, that can be displayed from the web help.
This works well, but the external files are link to a specific directory.
After generating this help, I would like the external files be embedded in the web help, so that they can be accessed from wherever.
So, I need to create baggaged files, and drop them to the link into the page.
Does it exist a way to generalise this action ? Because as I said previously, I've got many files to embeed in the web help.
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Regards
    Sylvain

Hi Sylvain and welcome to the RH community.
You have to point to a file (or files) you want to add as baggage. You can multi-select files when you add them but that is the extent of any generalisation.

My computer had a virus and had to be cleaned, but I had my Mozilla bookmarks in a Word file now located on my Desktop. I have spent hours trying to drag those bookmarks to the new Mozilla. There should be an easy way to do this. Can you tell me how in simple straightforward steps? Thanks.

If the Word file is a document file type (.doc), you may be able to save it as a .html file, then import that .html file into Firefox.
In Word, open the .doc file containing the Bookmarks,
    *click File > Save As,
*in the "Save in" box, choose a Folder or location on your hard drive to save the file where you can find it later,
*in the "Save type as" box choose ".html",
*in the "Filename box" enter "bookmarks.html" (without the quotation marks),
    *click "Save"
Then follow the-edmeister's instruction in Firefox:
*Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = from an HTML file

  • Linked PDF Baggage File

    Hello,
I am using RoboHelp 9 to create chm files on a Windows 7 machine.  I have several pdf baggage files in my project that I link to.  All works well, except everytime I click on a link to a pdf I get a File download security dialog to Open or Save the file.
Is there a way to just have it open the file or is this controlled by Windows security?  I can open pdf files on my machine without any dialog box appearring when using Windows Explorer.
We would rather not have users making copies of the pdf files if they choose Save.
    Thanks
    John

Is this on a machine with IE9 installed? If so see announcement 3 at http://forums.adobe.com/community/robohelp/robohelp_html

  • Linking to baggage file

in RH8, I'm trying to create a hyperlink within a topic to a baggage file, which I imported as a pdf. Is this good practice? because I was able to do it, but now when I try to view it, it views fine. But back in design mode, I get the robohelp error message, where it asks if you want an error report or not, then kills RH.

Yep.... couple of saves did the trick, I'd experienced this a while ago but couldn't rmrmember what to to do - Thanx once again. In the end I had to remove the image again as if I didn't when I saved, iweb would restore the link I had just removed so her was my workfolw.
    Delete image.
    Save
    Quit and relaunch.
    Add new image
    link to file
    Save
    Quit and relaunch
    Publish
Not sure if 2 quits and relaunches are necessary but it worked so I'll keep it that way.

  • Remove broken links to baggage files

Yesterday I thought I would take a shortcut and copy/paste the Index file from one project into a another project. The problem is, I was careless and copy/pasted the Table of Contents file by mistake, renamed it for the current project, saw what I'd done when the TOC changed right away, then had to fix things in a hurry.
I put the original Table of Contents file back, but Robohelp remembers links to baggage files from the bad TOC that are not in the current project, and displays them in the Project Manager with a red X through them. I can't find any way to delete them. How do I clean this up?
    Thanks!

I haven't tested to be certain, but perhaps the dev team put measures in place that disallow deletion until any links to the baggage files have been removed?
    Just a thought... Rick

  • Importing large amounts of baggage files?

I'm making generating a new roboproject from a Word document.
Only one of the problems I'm having is that the Word document
contains a lot of links to external files. These links still exist
in Robohelp, but they don't refer to right location anymore.
How do import all those external files fast and easy way
(instead of one by one) as baggage files in Robohelp?
Is there an other way to work with external files?

"fast and easy"? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,
    ha, ha, ha!
But seriously, folks...open the rhbag.apj file in Notepad,
see how the baggage file entries are formatted, and format each of
your new entries in the proper format in another file (you might
need a good Replace tool like FAR), and then add them to the
    rhbag.apj file.
An alternate method might be to perform the new entry
    formatting in Word,
but then filtering those results through Notepad first
, then copying the straight text into the rhbag.apj file.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • How to sync page icon in TOC with file type of baggage file?

all our pages are linked to baggage files (yes, we're also
using RoboHelp for document archiving). is there any way to set up
the skin such that the page icon in the TOC reflects the type of
the attached baggage file? i.e., shows the acrobat icon when the
baggage file is a .PDF, the MS Word icon when the baggage file is a
    .DOC, and so on.
    thanks much for any help/pointer
    --meg

When I have created bitmap icons in the past (used to work for a software company) I used to create them with either a icon creator tool (Axialis) or directly in photoshop.
For color depths 24 BPP or less, the transparency is coded by using a fixed color. Each pixel that have this exact color will be converted as transparent when the image is loaded in the toolbar. Usually, the color used is green RGB(0,255,0) or magenta RGB(255,0,255). The problem of this method is that if you use a pixel of that color in your icon image (not the background), it will be converted as transparent. The other issue is the poor quality of the borders (around the icons) because it does not permit smooth transparency. In other words, a pixel is either 100% transparent or 100% opaque, there is no variable transparency. It results in "aliasing" on borders for icons with rounded shapes.
This is an old technique so you will struggle to get the desired results but worth you having a look for "creating bmp icons with transparency" online.

  • Embedding bookmarked text from Word

I suspect that I know what the answer to this question is going to be, but ….
Is it possible to embed bookmarked text from a Word document into a FrameMaker document?
In a little more detail, I have Word documents that documents have bookmarks defining some text selections. In Word, I can use IncludeText fields to include the content of those bookmarks in other documents as linked text.  I would like to be able to include the bookmarked text in FrameMaker documents as well. Essentially, this does the same thing as including a text inset in FrameMaker.
I could just copy and paste, but I would much prefer to have the text linked, as it is in Word when I use the IncludeText field.
Is this possible, and if so, how?
    Regards
    Keith

    Keith,
In short, no. Word's bookmarks are ignored by FM's import filters (Reference is in the FM Filters.pdf manual last updated for FM7.2 in 2005).
You could possibly create a VBA macro in Word to extract the bookmarked content from the Word file(s) and place those into a MIF formatted file with each bookmarked snippet in a separate flow. Only then, could you import the individual bookmarks (as text insets). Maintenance issues are a consideration and your workflow would have to take into account how you would update the created file with new content and preserve the FM text insets.

  • Activation of links to embedded ".kmz" and "Animated GIF" files.

I recently upgraded from Adobe Acrobat Pro X to Adobe Acrobat  Pro XI and noticed a slight difference on how documents linked in an Adobe Acrobat File are activated for display.
I have placed files I want to display in my Adobe Acrobat file as file attachments.  I then link to those files, so that the user can click on an icon area within the document and open the file in a new window.
After a little effort, I was able to make the correct links to .pdf file attachments, but ran into problems linking to and displaying files that utilize external applications to view the file.  If I was able to convert this file to a .pdf file, I could open it with no problem.
However, I am having trouble linking the following file types for display from file attachments already embedded in the Adobe Acrobat document file.
They are...Portable Network Graphic (PNG), Animated Graphic Interchange Format (GIF), and Keyhole Mark-up Language - Zipped (.KMZ)  and Microsoft Word (PPT) files.
The .pdf file was originally convered from a Microsoft Word file in which all of the links worked fine.
I thought I had the problem solved in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but cannot seem to open the same files iin Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Would appreciate some guidance.

Thank you for your offer, I do appreciae it.  But I think the better question to ask at this point is :  What is the last version of Photoshop Elements that supports editing animated gif files.  This is too important to me to lose this ability and after checking further I see CS4 is out of my price and needed features range. I would rather hang on to my old laptop to manipulate photos than lose the ability to edit my .gif files.
Can anybody help with this question?

  • RoboHELP 6 Crashes When Importing Word 2003 File

Discovered this today by accident (after modifying a Word
2003 file that I was previously able to import to "test" Help files
using both RH HTML and RH for Word (both V6) and thought I'd report
it because it appears to be a bug:
If you select the following option in the Word file that you
are importing, RoboHelp will crash during the import:
Tools, Options, General tab, Web Options, Files tab,
Organize supporting files in a folder
When you do the Import Word file action from RoboHelp, it
starts the import then issues a Microsoft C++ Debug Library message
    box that says:
    Debug Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\RoboHelp
    6.0\RoboHTML\RoboHTML.exe
    abnormal program termination
(Press Retry to debug the application)
    Abort Retry Ignore
Doesn't matter what you select. RoboHELP crashes and the Word
    file is not imported.
Wanted to report this here in case someone else runs into
this. It cost me a lot of time today.

    Hi Peter
Thank you for the suggestion. I created a new project, new
folders, imported the files a few at a time & compiled it each
time (with one build tag in it) and found that only two files made
it crash. On the one file, I removed the tables (which had no
merged cells) from the project and it worked. The other file was
removed completly and I will re-do that page.
I then opened my current project (with all links &
pictures etc TOC working) and imported the changed file and removed
the other file and wala....I have a useable project.
The project was on our own software so unfortunately I would
not be able to share it.
Being a relativley new (1.5 yrs) user, I find running into
bugs are brutal....Thanks for all your help.

  • Maintaining active links and objects when converting Word to PDF

I'm using Acrobat X Standard and am trying to convert a Word 2010 file to .pdf.  The Word document has an embedded Word file within it (Insert > Object > Display As Icon), but when I convert the Word file that embedded object is not active - it's more or less a static picture.  All hyperlinks (e.g., URLs, Table of Contents) remain active links, except for the embedded object.  How do I accomplish this?

You don't. The whole application infrastructure requird to support the insert of an object into an Office file is not something that can be sent over and into a PDF.
It's not something supported by PDF.
    Be well...

  • Force PDF baggage file to open in Adobe Reader?

Hello, I develop WebHelp using RH10 and have noticed that in my published output, linked PDF baggage files launch in the users' browser window rather than in Adobe Reader. Is this something I can control?
This seems to be the case no matter how I set the options in the Hyperlink Properties dialog (Page Default, New Window. etc).
    Thanks,
