Linking a pdf to an MS Access report.

I am looking for a way to link a pdf file to an MS Access report. I have a table with the pdf file name and the path to the file. It also states the number of pages in the pdf. What I am looking for is a way to link this to a report for viewing and printing. I have used custom tools by pdf-tools which works great, but I am looking for a way to do it with Adobe, since I already own the professional versionsand would not have to pay for the additional license that pdf-tools requires. The vb code would have to have a way to view and print selective pages. I have the report built and it works with the viewer from pdf tools, but want to be able to modify the report to do it with Acrobat pro. Below is the code that I use with pdf tools and again it works great and is real simple to setup and use. Is there any way to replicate this using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 7.
'Code added to print the pdf file.
    Dim Viewer As Object
    Dim PDFPath As Object
    Set Viewer = Controls("PDFViewer1").Object
    Set PDFPath = Controls("DocPath")
        'Viewer.DPI = 600
        Viewer.FitMode = 0  '0=Actual 1=Fit Page, 2=Fit width
        Viewer.Open PDFPath.Value
        Viewer.Page = pdfPageNumber

Do you need to know what the primary key value is before you
do the insert? Do you need to know what it is after? You should let
Access create the value as an AUTONUMBER field, which means that
you would insert all of the fields
except the primary key (ID) field. If you needed the ID
value, you would have to immediately query to get it (select
max(id)...), and probably use cftransaction to ensure that your
insert and select were in the same database transaction, otherwise
on a busy site, you might get the wrong ID value. (SQL Server and
Oracle have better methods for obtaining the last ID values, so
when using Access it is kind of a kludge.)

  • Links in PDF created by MS Access work fine in Chrome and Foxit, but seem corrupted in Adobe Reader XI

I am using version 11.0.09.29 of Reader which I understand to be the latest, and version 6.1.4.0217 of Foxit.
The document is Dropbox - D00769 Parish Register Reconstructed.pdf  and I have created this with an MS Access repoort exported as PDF to Dropbox.
If I download this and open in Foxit and click on the first camera icon on page 1 I am taken to the correct URL with no problem http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…   (Note that the full URL is correct and ends N=7, but this forum has shortened what is shown here with an ellipsis.)
Similarly clicking on the second camera icon on page 1 also correctly takes me to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…
All the links behind all the other camera icons are also correct in Foxit (and incidentally in Chrome).
If I open the same document in Reader and click on the first camera icon I am taken to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%25On - which is not correct and comes up with an error (a).
Interestingly the second camera icon in Reader takes me to http://hcnhisotonr/ which is very wrong, as does every other camera icon on the same page (b).
It seems that in Reader the first link on each page is as at (a) above, and every other link is as (b) above.
There is no problem with the link in the footer of each page.
I have checked on the forum entries that might have helped (e.g. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1133628) but these seem to be about %20 being encoded as %2520 thereby causing errors, and were solved with a new version of Reader last year. It looks like mine may be a similar but not identical issue.
Any ideas what is going on?
    Thanks

There's something very strange going on with this file. It doesn't actually contain any links (except for in the footer), but the URLs in transparent text located behind the camera icon and the first line of each item.
So if you have the option set to create links from URLs then Acroabt/Reader will recognize that text and convert it into a clickable link...
There are many problems with that, mainly that the URL text overlaps with the actual text of the document. So if you copy the first lines of the first page, it looks like this:
HcN Parish Register of marriages 1837-1963
    Page 1
    http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%On 19 Sep 1837 John Munns (Labourer; aged 19 Years; signed) of 2H0oolfy%w2e0mll wararisa gMesa%rr2i0e1d8 b3y7 -H19u6g3h& FSo=r6d0 0B&aXc=oDn0 b0y7 6B9a&nNn=s7 t&oN A=
Sophia Mann (of Full age; signed) of Holywell
As you can see, the URL string is cut in the middle by the actual text, and is therefore broken when clicked (it happens in the forum system as well, just the same).
Other problems are that it screws up the text, and also that it won't work at all if the setting mentioned above is disabled.
If possible, I would recommend abandoning this weird system altogether and sticking with creating actual Link objects, like you did in the footer.
That is a much more reliable and consistent method of inserting clickable web-links into your file.

  • HTML links from Full Check Accessibility report do not open the corresponding PDF links

I regularly generate full Check accessibility reports for the PDF user guides I create in MSWord. However, when I click the links in the HTML file/report generated, they are supposed to link/highlight the corresponding errors in the PDf file. Instead, I get an error message that "There was an error opening this document. Bad parameters."
How can I get the links to work so I know which section in my PDF has the error (inaccessible items).
    Thanks

I understand you are creating HTML reports and then using them to find errors/view the PDFs.
Is this a new problem or  have you always had problems with the links?  If it's a new problem, what has changed on your system?
Can you view other PDFs in your browser?
Have you moved any of the files since you created the report -- as you may know the HTML report references a specific lcoation on your hard drive and if you moved the PDF after creating the report, it may not be able to find the file.

  • Microsoft Access report to pdf-hyperlinks don't work

    Hi,
Does anyone have a solution to hyperlinks not working when a Microsoft Access report is converted to a pdf?  The hyperlinks work when I am in the Access report, but once I convert to a pdf (Acrobat 9), the links don' t work.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

How did you convert? In looking at the PDF Maker options for AA8 in ACCESS 2007, there does not seem to be a link button in the preferences. That may the issue and I do not have a solution for that.

  • Microsoft Access Reports to PDF - preserving hyperlinks

Can someone help me figure out how to preserve hyperlinks from an Access report? I've built an application that stores project information along with embedded hyperlinks to source files on our shared server. Although I've been successful with preserving links in Word documents when converting to PDF, when I try to print or convert from the Access report, the links are no longer active in the PDF (although they show up as the familiar blue hyperlink text.)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Generally you would use the create PDF icon (what is called PDF Maker) on the toolbar. You can set the properties in the Acrobat (or Adobe PDF, depending on versions) menu on the Access menu bar. PDF Maker allows for adding links and such to the PDF. If you print to the Adobe PDF printer, you will simply get something that looks identical, but will have no bookmarks, links, or related items. Basically PDF Maker is a preprocessor for the printer that adds PDF Marks that are required for creating the links from ACCESS. Otherwise, the links that you see in the PDF are the best guess of Acrobat or Reader when it sees what appears to be a URL.

  • LINK TO A PDF FILE WITH DVD ACCESS

    Hello to everybody!
This is the first time I use this discussions area.
I'm desperate! I used the manual and all kind of online helps but still can't figure out how to link a pdf file inside dvd studio pro3. I enabled the dvd access but it doesn't work! I guess maybe it's something I do when a write the path where the file is or maybe the way I organize my folder! Anyways the thing is that it doesn't work not even in the simulation mode.
Please help me!! Thank you very much!
    Daria

    Hi Daria,
    Have a look at:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_access_linkfile.html
    or
    http://www.lafcpug.org/tutorials/basic_dvdaccess.html
It contains a pretty good tutorial and sample files on how to do this. It can be done and it also works on Windows if the PC enabler [email protected] is included as indicated in the tutorial.
    Cheers,

  • Create separate PDF files from MS Access Database report field

In the development or update of pipe specifications the valve specifications (database records) that are associated with the piping specification are updated or corrected.  These revised valve specifications are then exported as a group through the Access Report Print to PDF file with the piping specification name for the file name.  Each separate valve specification within this single file needs to have its own PDF Valve spec file name so that each valve spec can be attached to project engineering documents or for purchasing.  All of the valves are coded in the in the database and projects with this general description, V-?????? with each question mark representing a descriptive part of the valve.  MS Access database has this V-?????? field name for every valve record in this large database.  The current practice is extract from the single PDF file page thumbnails and rename every extracted file.  With over 1000 valve records being updated, the task is time consuming.

    These are the settings.

  • Print MS Access report to PDF with digital signatures.

I know it is possible to print a Microsoft Access report to a PDF file.  However, we need to be able to add digital signatures to the resulting PDF.  Is it possible to predefine the PDF signature fields in the Access database so that when the report is printed to PDF it is ready from employees to sign off on the PDF?

This is doable with the ability to do a security.importfromfile which provides the ability to import a certificate.
    This is critical.
Just create the PDF and then open it up in Access. Be sure to have a reference to the Acrobat Type library.

  • Option to email a pdf from an access report does not appear.

I upgraded to windows 8, and now the option to email a pdf from an access report does not appear.

    Hi anne,
Could you please let me know what Acrobat and OS version are you using.
Does this happen in case of any particular PDF or all PDF files?
Try repairing Acrobat and then again check.
    Hope to get your response.

  • Open a PDF File from a SSRS Report

I have a requirement to include a link of some sort on SSRS reports that opens a PDF file.  If this were being implemented in an Access report, a click event using the Application.FollowHyperlink method will do the trick.  Is there an analogous
method to accomplish this on a SSRS report, please?

Thanks to Bipin.P !  Although I do not yet have the product installed with which to work, I found the following in the RDL specs.  So, if SSRS functionality is identical to that of an IsHyperlink textbox, our requirement will be satisfied
    easily.
    Thanks again to all!
From the SQL Server Reporting Services RDL (Report Definition Language) Specification document, page 41:
    Action
The Action element defines a hyperlink, bookmark link or drillthrough action associated with a ReportItem.
    Name
    Type
    Description
    Hyperlink
    Expression (URL)
An expression that evaluates to the URL of the hyperlink (18)
    (18) The Access IsHyperlink property of Textboxes will be supported via this more general mechanism. The Hyperlink property of the Textbox can be set to the same expression as
the Value property of the Textbox.
Implemented on an Access Report on 05/06/2010:
Set the IsHyperlink property of a Textbox to Yes
Set the Value property of the Textbox to =”Open PDF File#C:\UPDATES\HelpFiles\UIU Boot Menu.pdf”

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • Is it possible to read MS Access report file .snp with Bold 9000

    HI
I would like to read MS Access Report file .SNP generated by an internal application.
This file is part of an e-mail as attached object.
Is it possible to do this with my BB 9000?
    Thank you in advance,
    Nik

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Natively? No, I don't think so. Your choices are, I believe:
    1) Seek out a 3rd party add-on app that will render that file type
    2) Adjust the app that is generating the file and convert it to PDF before sending. Then, for as long as the item remains an email attachment, the email attachment service will be able to render the image on your BB. There are also add-ons (fee based) to enhance the quality of the rendering.
    Cheers!

I bought 2 hrs ago pdf to Office conversion access. It is so horrible, I need to cancel subscription right now
the website is so bad that it goes around in a circle- & you cannot access a place where you click & it is done. Nope.. If I cannot cancel it tonight, I will have to call the c/c  to force the issue. I wasted my evening on this silly thing....
    Pl call 818 523 8735 now.

    Dear Sir:
I think you do not seem to understand: this link you provide is TOTALLY
    BOGUS & FRAUDULENT!
This is precisely the point of my email.
If I go there, & YOU CLICK SOME indeterminate options..& it opens another
tab & it is exactly the same as the one you came from. & on it goes.
    Adobe shoul know better!
Unless, you are pulling off another AOL thing of the '90s.
I am going to call the credit company & report it as fraudulently charged.
    See if that works.

  • Rh10 - HTML Help - linking to pdf shows when generate CHM and 'view results' but not when double-click on CHM in project folder or in product help

I have several PDFs in Baggage Files that are linked to topics in the Table of Contents.  When I generate the CHM file and 'View Results' I am able to pull up/access the PDFs with no problem.  When I go into the project folder and just double-click on the CHM file, I cannot pull up/access any of the PDFs nor can I access them in the product help.  Any ideas?  Is a setting "off" somewhere in my project?
    I am using RoboHelp 10.
    Thanks!

    eeddings wrote:
Thanks for the idea, but I can't switch the project to WebHelp.  This .chm project consists of a master project with 18 slave projects and a slew of remote jumps.  I'd have to recreate all of the remote jumps if I switch to WebHelp.
Hopefully Adobe can fix this issue.
Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"

  • Links in pdf's work if...

The links created in version 5.0.1 when exporting to a pdf did not work.  They now work in 5.1 newly created docs EXCEPT if you open a doc created in 5.0.1 they will not work.  If you copy paste to a new document they work.
    FYI

Starting in Firefox 14, Firefox no longer creates registry settings for launching links using "DDE". This has been reported to create two different problems:
    * "Firefox is already running" or "Firefox is not responding" error when following links in email messages in Thunderbird ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932461 Can't open links in Firefox by clicking URL in Thunderbird])
    * New instance of Firefox launches if the existing instance is running in Sandboxie ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/933798 Firefox is running. I click on a link, say in an email, it tries to start another instance of the browswer instead of just opening a new tab as it did before.])
Not sure whether your "silent fail" scenario is related.
It is possible to configure Firefox 14 to use DDE by inserting some settings into the registry. I haven't researched this carefully myself, but there was some information about it on and external site linked in the Sandboxie thread.
