Linking collapsable spry menu to other html pages

Hi,
I dont seem to be able the link the subject within my
collapsible, to another html page.
Surely it not hard, can someone explain how I do this, Im
having a blonde day.
Thanks in advance

Thanks.
I'll try my best to keep replying although I cannot guarantee further responses and no-one else here can help you further without those details.
Several points:
See http://www.projectseven.com/products/menusystems/pmm2/ug-examples/includes/index.htm
(The instructions relate to a commercial product but the principles apply to every SSI.)
Your include statement is <!--#include file="Includes/thiswillwork.shtml" -->
The .shtml is required for the parent file to tell the server to parse the Include
In other words, the parent page should read http://www.yourdomain.com/index.shtml - and every page which has an Include statement must have a .shtml extension. (The article linked above discusses alternatives to this requirement if you talk to your host)
Then the include reads <!--#include file="Includes/thiswillwork.html" -->
The include file extension can be anything provided it's correctly linked from the parent page.
Also, with nav bars, you'll be calling them from every page of your website so you need a site root relative reference, not a document root relative one, so that the include file is correctly referenced from every page of the website regardless of its position in the folder structure.
i.e. <!--#include virtual="/Includes/thiswillwork.html" -->
Note: the "file=" changes to "virtual=" and the crucial forward slash in front of Includes.

    How do you make a Spry menu view on all pages but only have to change it one place? Someone told me maybe I could create a Library item. Any help will be appreciated.

    If your pages all have the same basic design, using a DW Template would be a way to do it...

  • Replicating a gorgeous Spry menu in other pages not working

    Hi,
    I've created a gorgeous spry menu in one of my pages:
    http://agapemedia-international.com/test.html
    Works perfectly.
    Would like to copy this same menu over to the other pages of the site, so:
    1.  Copied the css <link href="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />  into new html file
    2.  Copied the <script src="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js" type="text/javascript"></script>  to the new html file
    3.  Surrounded all the spry menu - essentially nested <ul>'s - with a div for easy copying
    4.  Copied the div to the proper location in the new html file.
    Here is that new file:
    http://agapemedia-international.com/about2.html
    Everything looks fine, but when I hover over, no drop downs happen.  Oh, and the lovely Spry Menu Bar widget nor the blue tab that calls it up doesn't show up in Dreamweaver editor either.  Is there invisible data that doesn't appear in the html code that wasn't copied?
    Any brilliant ideas?
    Thanks a million!
    Peace,
    Ben
    PS:  I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on a Powerbook G4

    I am having a similar problem, but pretty sure it is a newbie issue. I made a menu bar and then wanted to copy it to a second htm page.
    I first put the cursor in the div region of the code where I wanted it to go and added a stock spry menu. Then I deleted the div-ul-/div code and pasted the custom menu code in its place. it appears, but does not drop down and lost some of the color attributes. When I place the cursor over it  in split mode, I do NOT see the Spry menu bar: assts in the upper left corner of the menu like I see on the index.html page. I'd like to copy the menu from the index.html to multiple subsequent pages. What am I doing wrong? Everything looks identical to me...

    History: Dogfish Bay Studios<br>

    Dogfishbay Studios were started in December of 2008 following a gift of ProTools M-Powered 8 to me from my son, Greg.
    Presentient being that he is, he warned his mother that this  gift would probably be a very small part of the cost needed to set up the studio.
    The studio was set up to provide me and my friends a way to record the songs we’d written, sometimes decades earlier, and to share them with
    family and friends.  After three  years of recording we finally came to a point where we wanted to share the work with a broader audience
    and that desire precipitated the need to create a studio name, a website, and a whole new set of skills.
    <br><br>
    This work reflects the generous collaboration of friends and family. The sale of the music is to support the musicians, the songwriters and
    the continued survival of the studio. None of the contributors has been able to forgo the “day job” and all play for the love of it.
    We feel blessed by all those who have taken the time to listen to our music and hope, whether you purchase it or not, that it brings to
    the listener the kind of pleasure that it has brought to us in the making of it.

  • How to update all spry menu tabs on all pages

    Hi, Really need some help. I'm working in DW CS3. I've got a
    working Spry menu. ( Eureka!). I quickly made a template to start
    building pages. I left the spry bar as an uneditable region. My
    question is I made a change to the Spry Menu on the homepage. I
    changed one of the always visable tabs from Psychologist to
    "Store", and I'm adding new tabs under "instruction" every day.
    Problem is the already made pages are showing the original
    "non-update" spry menu. Is there a way for me to have DW update the
    spry bar on all pages, or is it because I made that uneditable it
    won't do it and I have to change the template?
    Thanks very much!

    I am not using an external style sheet....
    Why the heck not?  It's so much simpler to maintain site wide styles with one style sheet instead of many.
    Dreamweaver, Linking HTML to External Style Sheets
    As bregent says, CSS is not going to help you with HTML content.  If your site is already built without the aid of Server-Side Includes or DW Templates, another option is Library Items.

  • Formatting Spry Menu to keep current page highlighted?

    Hi,
    I have O'Reilly's missing manual for CS5, but I can't find instructions for how to keep the menu bar highlighted so that the user always sees the specific page they are on within the menu. If someone selects the 'About' page, I would like the About text/tab to stay highlighted (in the hover style), so the user always knows the page they are on (without adding a breadcrumb or separate page header).
    Can anyone point me to the instructions. Is there a specific sub-selector within the spry css or is there separate html code I need to add to the page html or the spry menu js?
    Thanks,
    Wendy

    Just follow the instructions here http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/updater_help/
    If you want a quick solution
    make a new (empty) file in the SpryAssets folder named SpryDOMUtils.js
    click here http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/includes/SpryDOMUtils.js
    copy the code that you see in in step 2 (on the page, right click and select all from the pop-up)
    open your newly created SpryDOMUtils.js file and paste the contents in there (right click and choose paste)
    And you have a working copy. Don't forget to upload the file to the remote server, otherwise your online version will not work.
    Happy Sprying.

  • Linking a flash button to a html page

    Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to link a
    flash button to a page in DW?
    Thanks

    Place this actionscript into the hit area of your flash
    button, then export the flash as a .swf and place onto the
    dreamweaver page...
    on(release){
    getURL("YOUR_DESIRED_PAGE.html","_self");
    This will open the new html page in the same window. Hope
    that helps.

  • Spry menu bar lost current page code

    I sure can use your help.
    On this site http://www.evtn.com/ I created a drop down menu that originally had the
    current-linked page in a blue background like the one that is now permanently
    sitting on the HOME page link. But it stopped working.
    I want this to work:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.current {
        color: #F4F4F4;
        background-color: #8FC8D1;
    Do you know how I can straighten this out without starting all over again?
    I would also like to have a visited-link-page coded in a separate color if possible as well and don't know how to code it with the java script and spry.css (horizontalmenubar.css)
    I'll send more code of html and spry - whatever you need.
    I've read older posts on this and tried different things but nothing has changed.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:hover  works so I don't know why the content won't
    Thank you!

    Add the following to each page, or to your template
    <script src="SpryAssets/SpryDOMUtils.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
    function InitPage(){
    Spry.$$('#MenuBar1 li').forEach(function(node){
        var a=node.getElementsByTagName("a")[0]; // finds all a elements inside the li, but we only want the first so [0]
        if(a.href == window.location){
            Spry.Utils.addClassName(node,"current");
    Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(InitPage);
    </script>
    making sure that you do have SpryDOMUtils.js in the SpryAssets folder.
    Because the above place a class of current in the list item, you will need to change the selctor to and add
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.current a {
        color: #F4F4F4;
        background-color: #8FC8D1;

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Linking Using Spry Menu Bars

    Hello,
    Please forgive my noobieness. I used to use Adobe GoLive and
    am now transitioning to Dreamweaver.
    I have the layout of the website I want using a template
    provided by DW with a fixed main content area, header and a footer.
    The banner and the horizontal menu bar are at the top. The content
    would be displayed below as each button from the menu bar is
    clicked. I have followed the directions in the Missing Manual
    series but I still seem to have problems.
    1. For example. For a button listing Directions. I have it
    set to link to the proper .html file called Directions.html. This
    was set using the Spry Properties. Same for Home and a pricing
    menu. However when I run it using Firefox it opens a new tab and
    displays the chosen content there rather than in the existing page
    where the menu bar is located. In IE I cannot even get the page to
    jump to any place else. I dont here the clicking noise or even some
    kind of recognition that is trying to load the chosen page.
    I see a list for target but those have no effect.
    2. Secondly. In IE the menu bar drop down works really slow
    even when I view other peoples websites that were built using CS3.
    In Firefox it seems to work fine.
    Any suggestions would be great and appreciated. Attached is
    som code.

  • Giving different color to active link in spry menu

    hi,
    I am using spry horizontal menu for my site.
    Now what i need is that whenever any page is open i want the related link to that page as active link and wants to change the color of it...
    Is there any way in css or js by which i can do this??
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Dhvani

    Hello,
    Spry does not provide build in functionalty for this. But what you can do is add a className to the <li> that has the current page. And just add styling to that className. So i has a special "active" state.

  • Linking spry menu to all pages on my site

    Hi everyone, i'm a total novice when it comes to web design but i'm really interested in how it all works and have been playing around with dreamweaver cs3 practicing & learning how things work
    things were going pretty well until i hit on a problem with the spry drop down menu
    the problem i have is, when i attach my default style sheet to other html pages the spry drop down menu doesn't appear on the other pages i want to link to.
    so my question is, how do i get the spry drop down menu to appear on all the other pages on my site as well as the page i'm currently working on.
    apologies if it's such a simple question, but as i say i'm totaly new to dreamweaver, and i've spent the last 48 hours trying to work out the problem, looking at youtube tutorials etc. but all to no avail
    thanks in advance for any help offered, it'll be much appreciated
    or if anyone could point me in the direction of a youtube tutorial i could watch that might explain what i'm trying to do

    I have made over a dozen web sites with iWeb and am very clear as far as how you navigate links to your pages. I tried clearing my web browsers cache but to me that is not a solution because by that rationale I would have to make sure anyone who ever looks at my website will need to empty their cache. Which is something I never have to do with any other website I look at so why with iWeb built sites?
    I have wiped the entire web design off twice and redone the entire site from scratch and the same thing happens. I check and double check that the navigation is correct but it still does it. It makes absolutely no sense. I am fed up. AHHHHHH!
    But thanks for the reply regardless.

  • Can a menu link to .html pages?

    I want to make a DVD that will start with a video introduction, and upon finishing the brief minute or so intro, it will display a menu screen.
    1.) I would like the menu buttons to link to .html pages saved on the DVD. So after clicking on a link from the menu, it will open up a full-screen .html page.
    2.) Each .html page will link to other .html pages and have embedded images, and short quitcktime video clip links that will open up in small windows when links are clicked.
    3.) I need to have a link on each .html page that links back to the main dvd menu.
    Can this be done? Any issues with doing something like this?
    Thanks in advance for any advice!!!!

    Mark - you need to read up on DVD@ccess if you intend doing this through DVDSP. Yes, it is all possible, but you haven't quite got the way it works correct.
    What happens is you embed a URL into a menu. When the menu is accessed (typically by a button from a previous menu) the link is activated and the resource is launched. This opens in a window in front of the DVD playback window. The DVD player continues to run in the background - so you need to allow for that when returning. The viewer will simply close the web browser window and be back at the DVD window - by then you should have made the @ccess menu 'time-out' and return to the previous menu.
    You set up the HTML file (or whatever file you are using) in a folder on your Mac, and place it all within a parent folder. From within DVDSP you then use the property Inspector for the disc itself (click not he disc icon in the outline view) to specify a ROM folder. You browse for the parent folder you just created. Everything inside that will get added to the root level of the DVD, which is why you place your HTML inside a folder within that parent folder (unless of course, you don't mind your HTML file/s being scattered all over the root of the DVD).
    You set the URL for the @ccess link by using the following path format:
    file:///DVDname/ParentFolderName/filename.extension
    So if your html file is called 'index' and it is in a folder called 'ROM' on your DVD called 'Project' then the URL you set in the menu would be:
    file:///Project/ROM/index.html
    This should then get activated (as long as you have enabled DVD@ccess links in your DVD Player software).
    However, there are some caveats.
    Whilst this will work quite well on a Mac, a PC user will have a wildly varied experience - for some the links will work. For some the links won't work, and for some, all links will launch the moment the first link is encountered... ALL PC users will need to install the DVD@ccess software (which will be on the built DVD by default (DVDSP includes it there for you), unless they have already done so previously (unlikely).
    In order to maximise the experience for PC users and Mac users you should consider using Sonic's 'eDVD' to add the hyperlinks. This makes use of the Interactual player which has a far higher installed base in PCs, but will need installing in Macs. Again, this gets included on the disc when you use eDVD.
    eDVD is a PC only app - you'll need to build your project and transfer the VIDEO_TS folder to a PC, add the links and then burn it to disc or use software such as Gear Pro to create a DLT. Hopefully Jim (WTS) will see this and give more advice on how to use eDVD.
    Getting DVD@ccess working on a PC is a tricky thing to do - a lot depends on the PC software spec, and since you can't govern the user's choice in this, you are walking a tightrope of compatibility.
    Of course, you could simply set some text into your menu to say that there is additional content on the disc, and let the user browse to it at their leisure instead of relying on embedded links...
