Linksys E4200 Guest Account

We have a wireless router on our network 192.168.23.xxx and if the main router SSID is enabled we can connect to the internet, but am also connected to the network. I want to allow guests to use the wireless but not be able to see our network, I disabled the SSID broadcast and setup the Guest account and enabled the guest SSID broadcast. The note in the configuration says that guest will have to open a web browser and enter the password to use the internet. When connecting to the guest account nothing happens. I never see a login screen, nothing. I typed 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and it did oopen a login page for the guest account but does not connect to the internet. The network viewer says it is connected but the webpage says limited or no connectivity. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

  • Linksys E2000 enable guest account password

I'm trying to set a password for my guest account in Cisco Connect. But after I click complete (voltooien on the screenshot)
    it stays an open network.
My main WLAN is protected with WPA2.
How can I enable the password for the guest account?

    I disconnect the lan cable.
    The wireless window popped up.
         Choose unsecured network
                     check  Something-guest
Something-guest    is an unsecured network  -  connect anyway
finally I get: a  window that says
            Successfully connected to  Something-guest
There is no login password popup
so I try to connect to google,   I just get the standard   "Internet explorer cannont connect to web page"
I should get the  Cisco intercept page to log me in
The Network and sharing center  shows a X  between the router and the internet
I only have two devices connected to router.  Desktop  (main)  and laptop.

  • Can't connect Airport Express to my main wireless network, just my guest account.

I go to join my Airport Express to my wireless network so I can play music from Itunes to my sound system in my living room.  That is all I want to use it for at this point.  I pull up a list of the networks available, and my guest network shows up on the list, but my main network, which all my computers and Iphone is connected to, isn't on there.  I have a Linksys E3000 with a guest account set up trhough it.  Windows 7.  I called tech support and they said something about a hidden setting.  I went and checked and couldn't find anything about this.  Also, when people come over they can access my main wireless account with my password.

Hi JWHITHAM and welcome to the forums!
Have you tried manually adding your wireless network to the iPod touch? Mine does the same too sometimes and I just add it manually. So far it works.

  • E4200 : Guest Access : No IP-address on cascade routers

    configuration :
    2 E4200 wireless routers.
    LAN-LAN connected through a cable.
router 1 is connected to internet and has DHCP enabled.
router 2 is NOT connected to the internet and has DHCP disabled.
wireless is enabled on both of them with the same SSID.
guest account/access is both enabled on them.
    this works :
laptop connects at normal WIFI on router 1 --> internet works (IP: 192.168.1.150)
laptop connects at normal WIFI on router 2 --> internet works (IP: 192.168.1.150)
laptop connects at Guest WIFI on router 1 --> internet works (after login screen in Internet Explorer)  (IP: 192.168.33.108)
    this does NOT work
laptop connects at Guest WIFI on router 2 --> internet does NOT works
--> laptop does not get an IP-address
when I connect to normal Wifi on router 2, I get an IPaddress from the DHCP on router 1
But when I do the same with the GUEST WIFI on router 2 it does not ask an IP-address at Router 1
    anyone ideas????
    thanks
    Solved!

    can you please tell me.
what IP address you are getting
on the laptop which is connected to the guest network
through the 2nd router and what is the range of the ip address.
    that you are getting.

  • AirPlay Mirroring shows scrambled output in guest account

When using Mountain Lion's AirPlay Mirroring in the guest account, all I see on an Apple TV is some flickering scrambled image.
The same issue is observed by one other user on the Net.
The reponse by another user is as follows..
"To be more precise: after using AirPlay Mirroring in one account, one needs to log out that account before one can use Mirroring in another account on that same Mac. The same applies if you happen to use Mirroring in the guest account first, and then leave that account logged in and try to use Mirroring in some regular account."
    IS THIS A BUG?

i get this flickering from both my machines:
Mini is wired into Linksys Router and Netgear switch
    MBP wireless to same router
ATV2 is hard wired into router
both my OSX devices display flickering. IOS devices are all fine.
Any one any idea at all?
i dont have any other accounts on both machines except the admin user account i use for myself

  • E4200 Guest SSID Login page fails

    Config:
Netgear ProSafe Gigabit Router is my DHCP Server -- The entire home net work is on the same subnet (192.168.15.xxx)
Linksys E4200 configured as an access point ONLY -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
Linksys WRT610N configured as an access point ONLY  -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
    3 -- 5 port gigabit switches
    1 -- 8 port gigabit switch
No more than two switches between any two wired devices
Both Linksys access points have the same SSID and WPA2 security phrase -- total of 4 radios
Nonoverlapping channels are selected on both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz radio to minimize interference
All computers are running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with all the latest updates
Two iPhones and one iPad also access the network
All LAN and WAN connectivity is working as designed
    Problem:
    guest SSID is turned on
    password is established
All devices will connect to the guest SSID and the E4200 is assigning an ip address to the device in the 192.168.33.xxx range which is what it's supposed to do.
When I open a web browser, I am not automatically redirected to the Cisco Login Page. If I enter 192.168.33.1 as the URL, the login screen is presented. I enter the password I have created in the guest admin page on the wireless guest tab.  I then see a blank page and a URL of 192.168.33.1/guestnetwork.asp. THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK. THE ONLY WAY TO EVER SEE THE LOGIN PAGE AGAIN IS TO REBOOT THE E4200, otherwise you just get unable to connect messages when opening web browsers and the wireless status icon in the system tray shows a yellow exclamation mark.
I successfully connect to the guest SSID but I do not get access to the internet. When I type ipconfig, I see that the DNS is set to 192.168.33.1 which does not exist on my network. I assume there's some internal NAT magic that is supposed to happen in the E4200 to bridge me over to my 192.168.15.xxx network but it doesn't seem to be happening.
At the beginning of the call I specifically asked them if the E4200 must be the DHCP server in order for the guest SSID feature to work and they said no. 1.5 hours later they had no answers so they told me that it wasn't working because the E4200 was not the DHCP server. The documentation says nothing about a DHCP requirement for guest AP service. Linksys support further could not answer what you would do if you needed more than one AP with guest service enabled.
It seems like this is a firmware issue but it may be the guest SSID service requires the E4200 to also act as the DHCP server. Can anyone shed any light on whether this is a bug or if the router/AP is working as designed?
    Thanks,
(Mod note: Edited for guideline compliance.)

Yes the E4200 must have DHCP turned on in order to pass out IP's to your Guest Network.  No DHCP, no Guest Network.

  • Linksys e2000 guest connections, limit bandwidth

How can I limit bandwith speed of guest accounts? Or are there free softwares available to do something like that? It's kinda like the hotspot softwares - where we can set hourly, daily, monthly allowances and see a report on their connectivity.
    Please help.
    Thank you

As far as I know, you can't do that with the firmware that Linksys provides for that model. Your best bet be to check out DD-wrt and see if they have that feature. I know that you can set up your router as a hotspot using their firmware. Someone else on the forums might be able to provide a specific answer. Btw, what do you mean by guest accounts?
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • NTFS and Guest account

    Using NTFS on Win2000 iFS1.1.
If the user does not have an account, they get the default guest user. I see in Setup and Admin guide that SMB def has a parameter of AllowGuestIfNotUser. I see no such parameter in the NTFS sever def file. Is there another way deny access to the guest other than removeing the guest account? Will it cause problems if I remove the guest account?

    Replying to self...
Well after hours of experimenting and talking to tech support, I have this working.
I have all features working as advertised using the web interface (not the connect program), I have dual SSID's (not hidden) for each band with different passwords, mac address filtering, port forwarding, blah blah blah and the guest account!!!.
The main issue I found was if I tried changing the default ip pool from the 192.168.1.x to something else, then the guest account would stop working as well as some other routing issue occured.
I had to renumber 5 machines out of my previously registered space, but it was worth the effort. I have 2 MAC's, 2 Airports, 1 Ubuntu PC, 4 windows (G,N and GE physical), 1 Wii, 1 XBoX 360 and a media WHS all connected and working great.
I am sure Cisco/Linksys will release firmware to get rid of this issue and some other nusances, but overall I am impressed with this router.

  • E3000 and guest account problems

I will add ot the E3000 funkiness, I have reset my router 6 times now trying to get the right combination of settings.
What I am attemtping to do is simply change my SSID to my personal one and still have the guest account work. I change my SSID and ip address space (many devices in the house with static IP's for my personal /24, I don't want to change).
When I do these two things only, nothing else, the guest feature no longer works. I get a 192.x address, gateway and DNS look fine via the DHCP assignment, but routing is not working, can't ping the gateway and I od course do not get any Cisco password login.
If I completely reset my E3000 and make no changes to IP space everything works fine.
    Ideas, thoughts?

  • Disabling Right Click Menus for Network Magic's System Tray Icons for Standard and Guest Accounts

OK, so I want to know how to disable the right click menus for Network Magic's system tray icons only for Vista's standard and Guest accounts?   I don't want other users signed in as a Standard account or guest account having the ability to disable the system tray icons for network magic.

Hi, currently it's not possible to disable NM from being accessed by a Limited user account, but that is a good idea.
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • Linksys E2500 - Guest Network help

I recently purchased a Linksys E2500 router and currently have it set up with my main network and a guest network. Everything works as normal, except my devices are not prompted to enter the guest password every time. I logged on the guest account (and entered the password) the first time I set up the router, and then logged back onto my regular network. I then logged off the regular network and went back to the guest network and it operates as if I were still on the regular network, and doesn't prompt for a password and allows me to go to websites as normal. I was under the impression that it wouldn't save the password and would be required EVERY TIME a user logs on, not simply once and then in the future it never asks again. If anyone could help me with this issue I would be really appreciative. Thanks!

Let me know the current firmware version in the Router? If the firmware in the Router is an older version then upgrade it with the latest one which can be downloaded from the Linksys/Cisco website. After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status of the Guest Network..

  • How do I allow "Guest" account to access my music?

I can't believe I am having such a difficult time with this.
I'd like all the accounts I have set up to be able to access my music library. And if I add music I'd like each account to access the new music without having to update each library. I've read other posts and I can't quite grasp how I share the library.
If I can't share it, how do I move the library from my folder to the guest folder?

    It's even worse!
I tried putting the music folder into the shared folder.
I still couldn't access them from the guest account. And worse, I can't get them back into my original account. They are not erased (thank god!), I can see them in a folder, just can't pull them up on itunes.
Should I do the "consolidate music"? I'm leary of making a whole copy as I don't have enough hard drive space.
Now I am going to rant....This should not be that difficult!!!

  • Only guest account shows up at start up on Macbook Air

Last night I was updating my Macbook Air, left it alone to do it's update, came back the next morning to turn it on and it was stuck at the apple logo.
After preforming a safe boot, it took me to the login page however only the guest account shows up.
I'm not sure if something went wrong during the update, it was at 70% battery life when i preformed the update so I didn't have it plugged into a power source like recommened, but i've never had a problem with it before.
I've tried enterng control+alt+command+enter which gives me the chance to put in a username and a password.
First I enter my name and passwor, but it was rejected.
So then I tried my apple ID and password, and it was rejected again.
I know I'm entering the right username/password, because it has been the same for my Air, Pro, and iMac.
Now I'm not sure if the account even exsists on my Macbook Air, but the guest account only allowed me to use safari.
I'm not able to access system prefences or anything.
I'm also having trouble with my iMac after updaiting to Mavericks, it work fine until the update and now it's saying my disk is corrupt, but that's a whole other story.
I'm just hoping to fix the problem at home because I really don't want to take two computers down to the Apple store.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.

  • Why does my itunes work in the guest account but not my administrator account?

I have tried to reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore itunes on my pc to figure out why it won't work on my administrator account yet it's fine if I sign into my guest account. It worked fine one day and the next, just didn't work.  I have Windows 8.1. Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Simone

Make sure that mouse keys aren't on. System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse and Trackpad
System Preferences > Language and Text > Make sure that U.S. is selected. If there are multiple languages selected there will be a flag in the menu bar and make sure that that is set to U.S..

  • Why does Mail open in guest account but not my account since upgrade to Mavericks?

I've read a lot of threads but not found anything that works for me. The history is this:
I've upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2. Since then, Mail won't open in my own user account. I only get a very brief error message:
    Process:
    Mail [1448]
    Path:
    /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail
    Identifier:
    com.apple.mail
    Version:
    7.2 (1874)
    Build Info:
    Mail-1874000000000000~1
    Code Type:
    X86-64 (Native)
    Parent Process:  launchd [157]
    Responsible:
    Mail [1448]
    User ID:
I have gone to user/Library/Mail and deleted the contents of the folder Mailboxes + all the other mailboxes. No change - Mail still won't open.
If I switch user accounts to guest user, Mail opens normally (sets up email accounts etc).
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Rebooted in safe mode, repaired disc permissions, rebooted (again in safe mode) but no difference.
There was a bit more detail I could / should have added.
    1) Before it crashes, Mail says it is Upgrading your Mail database.
    2) I downloaded Mail update but Installer said none of the drives were compatible. (Anyway Mail works fine in Guest Account)
    3) I've been through all the tips on this post https://discussions.apple.com/message/23490745#23490745http://
    and
looked at Internet accounts in Preferences and none of my email accounts is checked with Mail. It asks for a password for each one but when I provide it I get the message Unable to verify account name or password. And if I try and uncheck iCloud with Mail I get the message that I need to do that from within Mail. (Obviously not possible until I can open Mail).
In Terminal tried defaults delete com.apple.mail ColorQuoterColorList but got the message that it hadn't been done.
Tried to find Envelope.x.x files as per this fix:     Final solution: Go into ~Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes > Delete all mailboxes. Then go to ~Library/Mail/V2/Maildata and delete 3 or more "Envelope.x.x" files > Restart Mail, and enjoy your success.     but don't have a V2 folder nor Envelope.x.x files. I do have Envelope Index file and Envelope Index - journal
I don't suspect 3rd party applications because I think they are all available in the Guest Account aren't they?
Many thanks for your reply though. Any more ideas?
