LMS 4.2.3 and CAAM

When attempting to run a compliance report for a 3750G, I receive a message stating:
"The report cannot be generated for the selected devices.
Probable causes:
1. Selected devices are not applicable for this report.
2. Device details (inventory or running configuration or show command output) may not be available to generate the report."
Any ideas as to how to determine which of the above is the reason?
Thanks,
Curt

Which compliance report are you trying to run? I think almost all should be applicable to a 3750G switch. I know I've run against various 3k models just fine (though don't have a 3750G in my lab to check).
I'd look in Device Center and verify that you have an inventory and configuration file gathered for that device.

    Solaris 9: LMS 3.2 SP1 (LMS 3.2.1) and CSCtn45425
the point patch for CSCtj01051 breaks Apache on Solaris 9 because libm.so.2 cannot be found (it exists on solaris 10 not solaris 9).
In the ReadMe of LMS 3.2 SP1 it states that CSCtj01051 is solved.
But does it take respect of CSCtn45425 also or will the installation of SP1 on solaris 9 break Apache ?

I need to install it in the next couple of weeks so I will keep this issue in mind.
Perhaps you can let the BU to update the ReadMe with this information - otherwise it could result in some frustration when installing it on solaris 9...:-)

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 and ASA 5540

I've added an ASA-5540 to the group of systems I backup each night. When the admin logs into the ASA in the morning, he sees the "save configuration" flag has been set. This started the same day CiscoWorks saved teh configuration. What is CiscoWorks doing to set this flag, and how do I stop it? It should only be reading the configuration. Thanks.

Ideally LMS should not save configuration only when LMS is taking the backup of configuration. This can be easily tested, if you try to run an instant job for Configuration Archive under Configuration > Sync Archive and see it on the ASA if it shows "save configuration" flag set.
It should be something else on either LMS or somewhere outside. In LMS it could be something like a NetConfig Job which may save configuration or other options like deploy configuration, which is very unlikely.
Before we stop it, we need to test and confirm, it is actually LMS,. You can also try to suspend the device once from LMS to see if next day you still see similar flag set.
Once we confirm it is LMS, we can test which action of LMS is doing it and how to prevent.

  • WS-X6848-SFP module are supported with LMS Prime 4.1 and 4.2

    Hi,
I would like to know if WS-X6848-SFP modules are supported with LMS Prime 4.1 and 4.2.
    Thanks for your help,
    SILVIA

It looks like they just added the WS-X6848-TX variant with the latest C6000IOS CiscoView package update (Version 37, dated 31 July 2012 - readme)
I'd expect the -SFP variant should be in the next update.
You should open a TAC case to make sure that it's brought to the attention of the dev team if they aren't already working on it. One of the tenets of Cisco Prime LMS is "Day 1 support" of new devices.

  • LMS 4.0.1 and User tracking with SNMP v3

    Hi! (again )
I've another problem with our new LMS 4.0.1.
We manage our devices with SNMP v3 but the user tracking don't want to work flawlessly.
I've attached an example from our SNMP configuration. Basicly it's the same in our devices.
1st the problem was that no matter what I did the User tracking didn't want to find any host. I left it and worked on something else. After 2 weeks suddenly appeard couple of thousand end host.
As earlier (LMS 2.6 or 3.2 with snmp v2) it is the same that LMS cannot differentiate normal end host and IP Phones although we have several thousand from both. But this is only one problem.
The other is that there are switches with the same IOS and SNMP configuration and from one I get the UT data and from another one I didn't get anything. Only from some 4506 (aprox. 12-15) and 6506 (2) works and we have 20+ 4506 and 10+ 6506. Not to mention the other switches (couple of houndred 2960 and 3750).
I'll be grateful if somebody could advice what to do.
    Thanks
    Gabor

    Understanding Debugger Utility
The utility displays a report on the reasons why User Tracking failed to discover end hosts on specific ports.
In many cases, User Tracking may not perform as expected. This may be  because of problems in other LMS applications. For instance LMS Server  may have devices that are not discovered or inadequate VLAN discovery in  Topology Services.
You can run the utility to troubleshoot problems, or provide the report  and log generated by the utility when you contact TAC for help in  diagnosing problems.
The debugger utility uses the data collected by LMS Server and reports the reasons for the missing ports in User Tracking.
This tool also has an SNMP component embedded which runs an SNMP query  for the table as a part of verification for SNMP failure. For example,  SNMP bugs in Catalyst operating system because of which User Tracking  may fail to discover devices.
This generates an Action Report that you can use to analyze the data.
    The Debugger Utility:
    1. Checks the switch ports in a sequential order.
    2. Reports violation of basic rules for each of the missing ports such as link ports and trunk ports.
    3. Checks for SNMP retrieval of data, if the ports pass the validity check.
    4. Generates an Action Report suggesting possible remedial actions to retrieve the valid missing ports.
    Using Debugger Utility
The Debugger Utility is available at $NMSROOT/campus/bin/ (where $NMSROOT is the directory where you have installed CiscoWorks).
To run the Debugger Utility, run the command:
utdebug -switch switch-ip -port port1[,port2 ...] [-export filename]
    where,
switch is the switch to which the end hosts are connected.
ports are the ports on the switch which have missing end hosts User Tracking.
-export filename specifies  that the debug messages be stored in the file specified. If this option  is not used, the messages are displayed on the console.
    For example,
    utdebug -switch 10.29.6.12 -port 5/12
    utdebug -switch 10.29.100.10 -port Fa0/10
    utdebug -switch 10.29.6.14 -port Gi6
Pretty sure you will find this and perhaps more in the build in help of LMS
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • LMS 4.2.3 and ASA SNMP v3 not working

    Thank you for your reply.
I can manually poll using SNMP v3 with the credentials (user, auth and priv).
I have other devices switches and routers also using SNMPv3 and was able to see the device using chassisview.
Since this is a LAB environment for now, I manually added each of these devices. See below; (ASA-VPN) is the device in question. Already tried increasing snmp timeout to 30 secs still no luck.

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 and user tracking utility 2.0.

    Hello.
We are using UTU 2.0 on more computers. For one of these we are unable to obtain results from search.
    How can I debug UTU?
    Thanks.
    Regards.
    Andrea

UTU uses the same ports as a browser would to connect to LMS. 1741 and 443 depending on what is configured on the LMS side.
You should test from that computer if the used port is open .

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 and devices other than Cisco.

    Hello.
Can I use some CiscoWorks LMS functions like config management, topology, with devices other than Cisco?
    Thanks.
    Andrea

No, RME, Campus and DFM are still hardcoded to restrict to cisco devices.
HUM and IPSLA are more open.
The functionality from the HUM will allow you to monitor availablilty, interfaces and you can add OID's yourself.
IPSLA can use non cisco devices as a target for their tests.
    Cheers,

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0.1 and 3850 switch support

HI, I want to know if 3850 switch is supported in ciscoworks LMS 4.0.1, I added the devices, inventory collections successful but devices icon is  blue with question mark "?" and config sync fails always.
I tried to download the packages to install it but I couldn't find it.
    thanks fo help

Yes LMS 4.2 needs a new license. You can probably check once if your LMS 4.0.1 license allows you a free upgrade.
Many old LMS 4.0.1 were offered free Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.x, which has LMS 4.2 available with.
You can check the contract covering your LMS 4.0 on Product upgrade tool :

  • LMS 4.2 backup and restore

    Hi Everyone,
Will the backup funciton in LMS backup the archived config, syslog messages from network device, fault history, scheduled job config, report job, etc, or it just backup the device list and credential?
If I need to restore everything of LMS to a new machine what is the best strategy?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

Backup/Restore of entire application will do it for all the devices in LMS DB.
When LMS is operational, there are two ways to keep the device configurations :
    > Shadow Directory
The configuration archive Shadow directory is an image of the most recent configurations gathered by the configuration archive. The Shadow directory contains subdirectories that represent each device class and the latest configurations supported by the configuration archive. Each file name is DeviceName.cfg, as defined in the Device and Credential Repository. Each time the archive is updated, the Shadow directory is updated with the corresponding information. The Shadow directory can be used as an alternative method to derive the latest configuration information programmatically by using scripts or other means. For more details check :
Enabling and Disabling the Shadow Directory
    > Using Config Editor
The Config Editor provides easy access to configuration files. Config Editor allows a network administrator with the appropriate security privileges to edit a configuration file that exists in the configuration archive. The Configuration Management application stores the current and a user-specified number of previous versions of the configuration files for all supported Cisco devices maintained in the Inventory. It automatically tracks changes to configuration files and updates the database if a change is made. For more details, check document :
Editing and Deploying Configurations Using Config Editor
You can use any of the ways to save config and re-use when required.

  • Daemon manager lms 3.2 starts and dies

After running OK during several months the lms3.2 daemon manager is going down without starting the lms services.
I have already run resetcasuser and did not helped.
I found that the casusers group had not the proper permissions on the cmd.exe file, I had this problem on an CUOM 2.3 installation, but
even after correcting the cmd.exe permissions the error persists.
I am posting the dmgtd related lines extracted from the syslog.log.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi ,
1.-Please check that the IIS service is not running on the server. (If running stop and disable it)
2.-Please try by adding the casuser to the administrator group :
From My computer click the right button of the mouse and select Manage. Go to local users,
double click on casuser and select tab 'Member of' Add to 'Administrator'
    Then :
Go to CSCOpx\setup\support in DOS prompt.
    Run the command 'resetcasuser'
provide a password according to the password policies.
    Now try to restart:
c:\>net stop crmdmgtd (wait for a couple of minutes after each command)
c:\>net start crmdmgtd (wait full 5 minutes and then log in Cisco works)
I hope this should work !!

  • LMS 3.2 DFM and PPP interface traps

    Hello,
I have a problems with traps from PPP links. Traps are corectly send from device, LMS server receive traps, but these traps are not displayed in DFM. I'm using SNMPv2c (SNMPv3 doesn't work properly). Information about link down is corectly diplayed in DFM syslog, but I have not any informations in a Fault History.
    Can you help me?
    Regards,
    Martin

DFM doesn't process link down traps except to determine if a link is flapping.  You will not see link down traps in the DFM Alerts and Activities Display.  Instead, DFM will use SNMP and ICMP polling to determine if an interface goes down.  This will not happen for all interface types, though. These PPP interfaces may be learned as dial-on-demand interfaces by DFM, and thus will not report when they go down.  If these links should be up all the time, then you will need to customize an interface group in DFM to match these interfaces, then enable the desired threshold information for these interfaces.  You will still not see link down traps in DFM, but DFM should show OperationallyDown events in AAD based on the polling it does.

  • LMS , AAA via Radius and cisco AV pair

We are trying to authenticate users on a Ciscoworks LMS server 2.6 using Radius.
Is there a radius vendor specific attribute that can be used to make the authenticated user part of the admin groups ?
    Ex : a Cisco-AV-pair , ?LMS?:groups="Network Administrator"
I have tried a few, but none seem to work. And i havent found documentation on this.

No, It is pure authentication that is done.
There is not way to select a role in LMS based on an AV pair.
With tacacs+ something like that is possible.

  • LMS 4.1 - Roles and Portlet

Role management in LMS 4 is a nightmare.
Is there a documentation which map the tasks and the portlets ?
For exemple, which tasks do i need to view device availability portlet ?

It helped me to copy the existing system generated roles and use those as a template for my own role generation.  For example, I wanted to have a role that could view all configuration and device information for a select group of devices, but could not write any changes to the devices.  The HelpDesk role almost does this but even some of the performance reporting was unavailable to them.  The HelpDesk and Network Operator roles combined had just a bit too much authority, but I started with those two roles as a template and then removed configuration capabilities from the new role and had my own role with View only capability.  It's a bit time consuming, but much easier if you start with the roles they give you.
