LMS4.1 soft appliance 1st aid

Hello,
Im new with the LMS4.1 soft appliance and got some questions after 1st touch with it:
1. Where can you get the documentation about the very special LMS-appliance-CLI? Is it possible to SSH to the linux-shell directly?
2. What is the default root password?
3. necessary Filesharing (e.g. for csv imports from old system) options:
a) SCP: with pscp from a win-client to LMS I get "cant get vty from remote host ...". Are there working compatibility options for common scp-clients?
b) Is it possible to setup an FTP server on LMS appliance?
c) Has SAMBA been installed, so that it is possible to make CIFS mounts?
(1st workarround = FTP server at the win-client)
4. What means the 1st "Access Denied" message after connecting via SSH and SCP successfuly?
5. Where is mping located?
Thx for hints,
Steffen

Developed a working solution for SCP based file exchange with LMS-Linux-Appliance:
LMS Appliance:
carshell> shell
sysadmin # useradd -g casusers -d /home/scp -s /bin/bash -c "SCP user for file transfer from and to LMS" scp
sysadmin # passwd scp
sysadmin # ...
WinSCP-Settings:
1. create a new profile with the LMS-IP and scp user
2. force SCP as transport. In SSH version-2, SFTP is the standard scp transport. So you will need a combination of version 2 and SCP, because SFTP is not installed at the LMS linux appliance.
The reason for the need of an extra user is: SCP transport needs a shell and carshell is not a proper shell to handle SCP commands beside Default Shell enforcement doesnt work with WinSCP.
3. optional: preset remote dir: /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow

  • Recivining and analyzing syslog messages from facility local3 on LMS4.2 soft appliance.

                       HI,
all of our enterprise switches are sert to send syslog messages from facility local3. this is partly because our linux syslog server loggs its boot syslog  messages from  facility local7 an we could't use the default  facility of local7 on our cisco switches. LMS4.2s syslog daemon is set to recieve syslog messages from facility local7. how can i change it so that it can listen for facility local3 and also make sure the syloganalyzer and automated action  work fine.
    thanks,
    Kerim

    Hi All,
I thought it is a good idea to share the workaround my colleague came up with for this prolem. there is a file called syslog-entries.txt under /opt/CSCOpx/conf. he added all the entries we needed like :
    local3.*     /var/log/syslog_info
    local5.*   /var/log/syslog_info
the change was automatically reflected on syslog.conf
now we receve alerts from facilities 3 and 5 besides 7.  hope this helps anyone who run into the same issue.

  • LMS4.1 soft appliance: cant view Configs in GUI

    Hello,
Cant view Configs in Version Summary or Version Tree. After klicking a config, a forever loading white Window opens. I tried this with many configs and after a reboot of the LMS server also.
BTW: also device selector in configuration management was just working after rebooting the appliance.

  • LMS4.1 soft appliance: Topology Java Install Endless Loop

    Hello,
The installation of the Java Applet is in an installation endless loop. Also after closing all Browser windows many times, Im still kept in the same step as shown in the screenshot of Topology Applet installation. Never experienced the problem in this manner for Windows and Solaris versions of LMS before. Need help.
    Did before:
    1. installed the offered new version of JRE
    2. cleared the JavaCache
    thx for help, Steffen

    Hello Michael,
With creating endorsed and copying those files manual it still doesn’t work.
So it doesnt works without providing write access for endorsed. But I can’t change the permissions of endorsed without having the real local Administrator Account for my company PC. This is just a test from my PC to a LMS Linux appliance in our Lab. But the real end customer will have the same problem: staff from networking department have typical not the original “Administrator” password of the company PC’s given by the PC department.
    PowerShell:
    PS C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\lib> attrib -R endorsed
    PS C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\lib> attrib -R endorsed /S /D
Other ideas to can change permissions of “endorsed” with a user that is just in the local administrator group, but with no chance to get to the original “Administrator” user?

  • LMS 4.2 Soft Appliance - No Remote Backups?

    Hi All,
I have a new installation of LMS 4.2 on the Soft Appliance and seem ot be only able to configure backups to the local disk?
There is no option to select any of the configured repositories like there is in ACS.
I can backup to /localdisk, after change to filesystem as below:
    chgrp casusers -R /localdisk
    chmod 0775 /localdisk
but the issue is, how to I get this off the box in an automated fashion so it can be part of our corporate backup schedule?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

To backup LMS you need to use the built-in backup utility. The target for your backup can be on a different partition / mount point. See this section of the admin guide.
Almost any database server or server which relies heavily on a database (such as LMS) requires that backup solutions be tightly integrated so as to preserve the data integrity.

  • LMS Prime 4.1 soft appliance backup

    Hello,
We have an installation of Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 soft appliance on VMware and i would like to ask if it is possible to backup the database on an external drive other than the 'local' LMS hard disk. Is it possible?
    Regards,
    Nicos

Same as windows or solaris. You can only backup to a local drive.
Making a script that does some compression (the backup is not compressed now, big waste of space) on the backup directory  and pushes it to a remote NAS is not that hard.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • LMS Prime 4.2 Soft Appliance on UCS

    Hi,
I'm trying to install LMS Prime 4.2 Soft Appliance on UCS C220 M3 with RAID controller . I have configured RAID 1 and using
Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2.iso, but when i boot from KVM DVD I received this error:
Do you have any ideas how to process from here?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Sorry, NCS server (PRIME-NCS-APL-K9) was the option I was referring to. I didn't realize they specified the same image for UCS servers.
I do note that the prerequisites specify (here) "LMS 4.2 is supported on the UCS B-series blade servers (B200-M1 or M2 and B250-M1 or M2) and C-series rack mount servers (C200-M1 or M2, C210-M1 or M2, C250-M1 or M2, and UCS C460)". It could be that the ISO does not have the necessary drivers for your RAID controller in the M3.

  • Cisco Prime Soft Appliance not saving changes to syslog.conf

    Greetings,
I'm having an issue with the syslog.conf file on a Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.4 soft appliance with a Solaris base.  My workplace uses local4 as the logging facility for its network devices, and according to a discussion I found on this site, I need to add the line:
    local4.info  /var/log/syslog_info
I have attempted this several times; we're approaching at least 5 attempts today.  I have attached text files created from putty logs where I've attempted to make the necessary change.  I appreciate any assistance the community can provide.
    Regards,
    Rob

    Hi, Afroz,
I really appreciate your assistance, but I'm afraid my hopes have been dashed.  The syslog.conf reverted to its original configuration.  I will go through my steps to be sure that I understood your suggestion properly.
I edited the syslog.conf to put all messages from local4 in /opt/CSCOpx/conf/syslog-entries.txt.  Then, I exited the shell to the console, issued the 'write mem' command, and closed the session.  Upon my reconnection, I found that my changes to the syslog.conf were not saved.
Did I make the correct edits in the correct places?  Another question, is this bug present in the versions of Prime LMS running Linux and/or Windows, or does it only exist in the soft appliance running Solaris?
    Regards,
    Rob
    Edit:
I'm reading the "Installation and Migration of Cisco Prime" PDF, and it gives me the impression that Cisco Prime is only supported as Windows, Solaris, and soft appliance installations.  Is that correct?  If it is correct, then installation of Cisco Prime LMS is not supported on other Linux distros such as Ubuntu Server, CentOS, Fedora, etc.?
    My thanks.

  • Disk Utility Disk 1st Aid SLOW in OS X10.7

I have an external hard drive that use for my Time Machine backups. It took some time but the Time Machine copied my OS X 10.7 Macintoah HD with no issues and all seemed well.  I then opened and used the First Aid opton in the new Disk Utilty version 12 to Repair my Time Machine backup drive. It is still running and the time left is 45 minutes. It seems to be running in slow motion at best.
I wonder if there is an issue with both 10.6 and 10.7 files in the same TM backup?

As a follow-up the Disk Utility finally finished the Verification and Repair and said the TM external drive was okay. I then had the Time Machine do another back up and it worked but took five minutes for clean up after copying the files.  I am not sure but I think the Disk Utilty may have changed something and It too the Time Machine some time to put them back in place.  All seems well but the the 10.7 Disk Utility seems slower than I remember in 10.6.
As long as the TM is happy I am not messing with it!

  • Help. I ran 1st aid & received this "The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972).

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong?  I ran the Disk Utility off the cd I received with the computer and received the error message received above.  I am not experiencing any issues (that I am aware of) with the computer but rather was completing routine maintenance before adding new software.
Please let me know if you know how to help me with this situation.

  • Problem with LMS4.1 install

Getting 'swap space is not configured properly on the Cisco Prime Server' error message while trying to install LMS4.1

CW is notorious for wanting one to hew precisely to the installation prerequisites. For that and other reasons, I have been leaning towards using the soft appliance version of the software for new installs. You simply drop the ova file into your vCenter server and it hands you a successfully installed VM ready to discover your network.
I'd also adivise that you consider bringing the installation up to the current (4.2.2) version. If it's a greenfield installation, one might even consider starting out with the about-to-be-released Prime Infrastructure 1.2; which finally merges LMS and NCS.

  • Problem Exporting Backups from Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 deployed as software appliance

    Hi,
I'm trying to backup a Cisco Prime LMS4.2 based on soft appliance. I have the backup stored on destination disk://localdisk/backup/, but i can't export it via FTP to external server. When I perfrom the transfer only the folder is stored in the destination path, the files aren't included. I think that i have to compress files on the backup folder as .tar file using linux shell, but i can´t find the backup folder from this shell.
It´s correct my procedure, if not What is the procedure and commands to export a backup to external server via FTP?
    Thanks,

    Hi Dave,
If your Goal is to upgarde the IOS of  the devices via LMS  then  MANUALLY download the IOS Image from cisco.com
and use the FILE SYSTEM option to add the Image in the Software Repository
Then try to upgrade the IOS and see how it works.
    Thanks

  • Syslog in LMS4.2.2

I have about 500 devices in my LMS4.2.2 and they are all managed by Hostname/DNS name. when I go look at the raw syslog file (tail -f syslog_info) I see most of the devices (more than half) sending syslog  mesaages by their IP address instead Thus do not show up in my 24-hour syslog report. my LMS is on soft appliance. Any thoughts?

Not a DNS issue. DNS works and reverse works too. If it didn't work, RME would never manage devices by its DNS names. What I see that device is managed by its DNS (lets says 1-c-4507-22) name but the syslog (syslog_info) file seeing syslog coming from the IP address (10.1.1.22). I know it is wierd,  I can reacll back in RME3.x days there were similar issues with syslog and I have a feeling that  the bug has returned in LMS4.2.2. I tried delete/add device with no help.

  • Cisco LMS 4.2 Appliance on VMware vSphere 4.0

    Hi all,
I'm currently trying to install the Cisco LMS 4.2 Appliance on a VMware vSphere 4.0 environment.
    I'm following the http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/install/guide/instl.html#wp1689675
    guide.
I downloaded the Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2.iso and I started the server.
I get this screen and I choose option 1:
    A Welcome message appears:
Welcome to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2
To boot from hard disk, press <Enter>
    The following options appears:
•[1] Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 Installation
This option allows you to perform installation of LMS 4.2.
    •[2] Recover administrator password
This option allows you to recover the administration password. Follow Step 3 to Step 17 of Recovering Admin Password on Soft Appliance Installed on VMware, to recover the administration password.
•<Enter> Boot existing OS from Hard Disk
This allows you to boot up the existing OS available in the hard disk.
However, unlike the installation on my laptop (using VMware Workstation) I cannot get to this part:
Enter the following configuration details of the server:
    •Hostname
    •IP Address
    •Subnetmask
    •Gateway
    •DNS Domain
    et cetera
What follows looks like an installation to me.
When this stops I get a
    localhost login:
I cannot enter Setup as I get a password statement afterwards.
Can somebody please help me as I'm having no idea what went wrong..
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your help, Marvin.
We went ahead with the .ova file and it worked alright.
We also did a little test and it seems that the .iso file does work on some VMware platforms. Our test environment had a VMware vSphere 4.1. When we started a VM with the same specs and the ISO file mounted, the installation did succeed.

You're not the only one with this problem. There is a long discussion, with some proposed solutions, in this thread (and searching for "slow" in the Pages forum will bring up other threads as well).
