Loading video dynamically on parent page

Question

I have a list of video links on a portfolio website page. I
need the video to load in a fixed place on the parent page when the
link is clicked. When the user clicks a new link, the new video
should replace the old one in the same spot.
I have achieved this with images but for the life of me I
cannot figure out a way to do the same thing for video!!!
HERE'S THE CODE I USED FOR THE IMAGES-
function showPic (whichpic) {
if (document.getElementById) {
document.getElementById('placeholder').src = whichpic.href;
if (whichpic.title) {
document.getElementById('desc').childNodes[0].nodeValue =
whichpic.title;
} else {
document.getElementById('desc').childNodes[0].nodeValue =
whichpic.childNodes[0].nodeValue;
return false;
} else {
return true;

If you use Flash Video, look at Wimpy Audio/Video Player. A
single player
can be used to present an entire playlist of media files.
