Locale - Multi-language

Hello,
since we're building a multi-language portal, I was wondering how one could go about doing such a thing.
Is there some documentation describing such a situation? (except for the manuals :( )
First there is a anonymous authentication. Can I separate two language-groups within the same domain? Setting the language
fixed for Anonymous is not an option (except if I set up two domains, one for each language)
Does the portal detect the browser Locale? It doesn't work for me
thanks
Bob

Assuming your iPS domain is "MyDomain", you should have a "MyDomain"
sub-directory under "/etc/opt/SUNWips/desktop/" (SP2).
Assuming you want user "xyz" to see a French version of the site.
These are the steps we used to do localization for user "xyz" (locale =
"fr_FR"):
- copy the "MyDomain" sub-dir to "MyDomain_fr_FR" sub-dir under
"/etc/opt/SUNWips/desktop/" .
- change templates under "MyDomain_fr_FR" sub-dir as needed (e.g., code
display text in French). Restart iPS after modifying templates.
- log into Admin Console, navigate to user "xyz", click on "User" menu,
change the "User's Default Locale" field to "fr_FR".
- go to Server Management >> show advanced options. Add locale "fr_FR" to
the "Available Locale" list.
- add properties files to the "/opt/SUNWips/locale" directory as needed.
For example, to show edit labels in French, you may want an
iwtBookMarkProvider_fr_FR.properties file in addition to the default
iwtBookMarkProvider.properties file.
- log into portal desktop as user "xyz", you will see the look-and-feel you
customized under the "MyDomain_fr_FR" sub-directory. User "xyz" can choose
language preferences by going into the Edit User Info page. You need to
logout and log back in to see the changes in your language preference.

• Is Locale required for multi language?

Hi Folks,
I used Locale to represent multi language or directly using unicode characters, these 2 scenarios as follows:
Using Locale:
<%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
<%@page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8"%>

<%
String language;
String country;
Locale locale;
ResourceBundle rb;
language = new String("hi");
country = new String("IN");
locale = new Locale(language, country);
rb = ResourceBundle.getBundle("MessagesBundle", locale);
System.out.println(rb.getString("localeInfo") + " ( " +
locale.getDisplayLanguage() + "," + locale.getDisplayCountry() + ").
");
out.println(rb.getString("welcome"));
out.println(rb.getString("sayThanks"));
%>

And the property file is with name
localeInfo = गुरु कॉप।
welcome = *गुरु कॉप।*
sayThanks = गु
i got the required output.
Now with out using Locale i directly pass the unicode value directly and got the same output.
String text="*गुरु कॉप।*";
//Character.subset block2=Character.subset(text);
out.println(text);
As we can do the same thing directly passing unicode with out using Locale then what is the use of it?
Thanks.

Uhmm, the ability to present different text to different users dependent on the locale they are running in? Without having to pass in the specific text for a specific locale like you do in the second option?
Not to mention all the other stuff like date/time, numbers etc. that you also want to change acdording to locale - but since you specifically ask about language, let's ignore that.

• Multi-Language view display rules

Hi,
Has any of you made any testing with display rules on multi-language views. I can't find any example, and it's not clear how to select which values to show depending on the user locale...

The only method I can suggest would to use a DataTable with the text of each label inside.
1 2 3 4 5
A English Stop Go On Off
B Spanish Alto Ir En Apagado
C German Halt Gehen Auf Ab

• Infotype 2 - Multi-language?

Hello,
my client has a requirement where they would like to gather a person's name with 2 different character sets (at the same time). One in local character set (for instance Chinese), one in global character set (Latin). We have ECC6 unicode enabled, but we know that infotype 2 is not multi-language capable (while for instance infotype 1002 in PD is capable to do so)
Besides developping a custom PA infotype for this, aren't there standard (or maybe creative) solutions which could meet the above described requirement?

• Disco Admin multi-language support ???

Hello,
I am an Oracle University instructor. A student has asked whether the Discoverer Administrator client supports any language besides English. In researching, I found a few docs refering to multi-language support for Disco Viewer, but I have seen no mention of it for Plus, Desktop, or Admin. If you have any info on this, please advise.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Burt

Hi Burt
As far as I know, Discoverer Admin and Desktop are only available in English, just like they only run on Windows.
However, both Plus and Viewer can be made to run in virtually any language in the world by selecting the appropriate language from the Locale box on the connection dialog.
I hope this helps

• Multi-language JRE via auto-download?

It seems that the JRE installed via the auto-download cab file for Windows is not the multi-language version. If I install the JRE by hand and then launch my Web Start application, I have no issues accessing other encodings like JIS_X0201. However, if I use the auto-download feature described in the Java Web Start tutorial (using http://java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/jinstall-6-windows-i586.cab#Version=6,0,0,0...) I get an English-only version and end up with UnsupportedCharsetExceptions when I access other encodings.
So, in short: Is there a way to get the multi-language JRE via auto-download?
Thanks!

Thats the GUI I am talking about
Confirmation Needed - Print
Print Request
Applet would like to print . Do you want to proceed?
Don't show this dialog box again?
Yes No
I want this to be in Portuguese, my native language.
I changed the code like this:
import java.util.Locale;
import java.util.ResourceBundle;
private String language = "br";
private String country = "BR";
Locale currentLocale;
ResourceBundle messages;
currentLocale = new Locale(language, country);
messages =ResourceBundle.getBundle("MessagesBundle",currentLocale);
( I included )
( I algo created those files )
MessageBundle.properties
Dialog = Confirmation Needed - Print
Title = Print Request
Text = Applet would like to print. Do you want to proceed?
Warn = Don't show this dialog again
MessageBundle_br_BR.properties
Dialog = Confirmao Requisitada - Impresso
Title = Requisio de Impresso
Text = O Applet deseja imprimir. Deseja prosseguir?
Warn = No mostre esta caixa de dilogo novamente.
Everything according to tutorial.
But I did not understand how this change a dialog that came from the JRE!!

• Multi language Report

SSRS 2012 Sp1
Hi guys,
I need to deploy the same report in several country with different languages.
Therefore the customer requires to have the report displaying labels in the local language (this must be applied to all the labels, meaning report itself and the parameters area).
Currently our main constraint is how to change the parameter label in the parameter area.
Can you provide any info in how to customize the report based on different languages (unique report regardless the local language)?
The goal should be to load the report automatically with the correct language (In particular the parameter prompt).
Thanks for your help

Hi Fasttrack2,
According to your description, you want to display the report with different languages. Besides, you want to change report parameter labels as multiple language.
Starting with SSRS 2008, the Report Definition Customization Extension is added. This extension can receive a XML report definition, modify or transform it, then send it to the rendering engine. In your scenario, since you want to display the same report
with multiple language, you can develop a Report Definition Customization Extension which can display multiple language reports. For more information, please refer to this article:
Developing a Report Definition Customization Extension for Multi-Language Reports.
Besides, you can also create a new table which control all translations, then create a parameter for users to select different languages to run the report. For more information, please refer to this article:
Localization of your SSRS reports. Translations of labels in your reports.
Regarding changing the parameter label as multiple languages, it’s can’t be changed dynamically because that parameters render earlier than other variables. But if you are designing the report with SSDT, you can change the appsettings element in web.config
file. For more information, please refer to the similar thread:
multi-language support for report parameter names.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

• Why isn't there a JRE Multi-Language for LInux

I can find the Multi-Language JRE for Windows but not Linux. Doesn't JRE support I18N in Linux?

Not having downloaded any special version of JDK, it seems that my installation supports i18n just fine on Linux (for example: JOptionPane uses localized default answers, based on the locale).

• Write multi-language entries to central Audit Log

Hi there!
For my custom XI adapter module, I need to write multi-language log entries to the RWB Audit Log. Therefore I created some resource bundle files with my message texts.
But at runtime of my module, I cannot know the language of the user, who accesses the log via his web browser.
Is there any possibility to provide custom resource bundle to the central audit log?
Thanks in advance!
Matthias

Matthias,
The idea behind using various resource bundles will work fine when you would detect the Locale of the user accessing RWB and load appropriate resource bundle. In most of the web applications based on Java this would be done automatically and you would not need to write exlplicit code for this but the Audit logs that you write from your adapter module would most probably be persisted to the database. At the most you would be able to persist the appropriate language messages by detecting the default locale in adapter module and retrieve values from corresponding resource bundle. Rest, your standard message display tool UI is automatically displayed in the appropriate language your browser sends to the server.
Hope this helps.

• Oracle 9i Support for multi language is not working.. Giving question mark

HI,
We have an application which uses oracle 9i as the database. Riight now we are supporting only english and there is a requirement to support multiple languages like korean, chineese and japaneese.
But we are planning to migrate one part of the application to support multi languages. Means it may affect around 10 tables but with huge data. Totally we have around 100 tables.
How to enable the database for supporting multiple langugages.?
Is there any way to enable only the few tables supporting multiple languages. Because if we change the database level parameters for supporting languages, we may need to migrate entire tables. this will be a huge task.
Even if want to set the parameters for supporting multiple languages.. how to set it. Is it possible set it in the existing database or do we need to re-create the table with these prameters.
I have read in some documentation, that we can create table columns with nVarchar2 for supporting multi languages. I have created it. but if i copy some other language characters into those columns, it is giving question mark.
Is it possible to do search using text in native langugage like chineese..
Could somebody guide me on the above clarificationa and what would be the best approach..
Thanks in advance

You should not use any more Oracle 9.0.1 but at least Oracle 9.2.0.8 to get some extended support if you really cannot upgrade to 10g.
I don't have any Oracle 9.x database available but I've run successfully following test with Oracle 10.2.0.1 in character mode under Linux:

• Multi language web site

Multi language web site
What is the best way to have my web site switchable (initially from links on the main index.html page) between different languages?
Do I simply clone the English version (including all the sub-directories and structure) into a sub-directory and translate each page and put a link on the main index.html page to a translated copy of the index.html page in the German sub-directory
That would mean I effectively have two websites to maintain.
More when it is translated into more languages.
Currently all the English pages are made from a template (dwt file)
I assume this adds a level of complication to the design.
Or is there a better/easier way?
thanks

This is a website that the client did not continue with http://ncca.com.au/new/, hence it has not been finished.
In the top right hand corner are two flags, Dutch and English. By clicking on a flag, the language session variable is changed. This session variable is used througout the website to determine the content as in
if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'en') {include("home_en.php");}
if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'nl') {include("home_nl.php");}
If there are more languages it is better to use the select switch rather than an if statement.

• Multi language AddOn

Multi language AddOn
I will like to know were can I find information on how to make a AddOn multi language available.
Best regards.
Edited by: Jose Villarreal on Apr 21, 2008 5:27 PM

You have to program this by hand. Now there is an event that let's the add-on know when the language has been change. That could be a start, but you have to program all the translation on your add-on, is not done automatically.

• Multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms

multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

Hi,
Lets say you have two smart styles with X and Y, and runtime based on the number of pages, if you would like to modify the style, then check any standard table or structue which holds and responsible for the holding the style value.
If you can trace that, based on the coding we can modify accordingly.

Can anyone share any experience with building multi-language sites on BC? I have a client in Eastern Canada that needs a site in French and English. Is the best approach to create two complete sites in different directories such as: www.mysite.com/fr/ www.mysite.com/en/ Can anyone provide sample sites where this has been done in BC?
