Location of OSX Lion Mail Server sent mail

I had to restore a mac mini server I use for web and mail hosting. Since the restore was due to a software problem, I had to do from scratch instead of recovering from a disk clone. I copied from the old mini backup all the mail accounts directories under /Library/Server/Mail/Data/..., and I've got back all received mail for every account, but NOT the sent mail. I guess sent mail is stored in a different location, but can't figure out where.
Does anyone know what I have to copy to restore also sent mail?

Ok, I found my error. The sent messages folder is into the same directory of the inbox, under /Library/Server/Mail/Data/..., but it's hidden (.Sent Messages).
My stupid mistake was to copy the content of the folder in the new created folder without checking the presence of hidden folders.
I'll leave this here for anyone else will do my same mistake

  • OSX Lion Mail Server Junk Mail Filter blocks incoming mail from any Yahoo address

I have yet to be able to use OSX Lion Mail Server's Junk Mail Filter.  I have several contacts who use (free) Yahoo Mail addresses.  Whenever I turn on Junk Mail Filter, even at the Most Cautious setting, any incoming mail from Yahoo.com addresses do not make it into my inbox.  I was told last year by an Apple Enterprise Tech Support contact that "..we're still having problems with that Junk Mail Filter, sorry, just leave it off for now.."  WTH  In the meantime, the good news is I'm not missing any incoming e-mails; but, I'm having to sort through and delete a few hundred spam messages each day.
    Suggestions?  Thanks in advance

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.

  • OSX Lion Server - Mail Server All Mail Lost

    Hi
    Can anyone help.
I opened my mail client and found a blank mail box.  It appears that all of my mail that I host on Lion Server has just vanished.  I checked it via my iPhone 30 minutes prior to accessing the mail.app on my imac and all of my mail was visible.  I then checked on my iPhone and slowly watched my mailbox contents vanish on my iPhone.
I'm at a loss as to what has happened and I can retrieve the email via a backup I did a day ago; however I have had some important mail since then and I appear to have lost them.
I'm truly finding OSX Lion Server to be a real pain where as Snow Leopard Server worked pretty well.
If anyone can assist I'd be really grateful.
    Thank you

    Thanks Colin
No one has been able to help so far in the Lion Server forums.  I've logged a call with Apple but so far they have not been able to help.
I've now completely shutdown all Lion Server Services and loaded up Microsoft Exchange in a VM.  Obviously a tad more expensive but Exchange is a far more mature and stable product.

  • IOS Mail, OS X Mail, MS Exchange Server: Sent Mail Folder?

I use iOS Mail and OS X Mail for my MS Exchange server account. The Sent mail folders are not in sync between the 2 apps. Messages sent from iPhone do not show up under "Sent" in OS X Mail, and messages sent from MacBook don't show up under "Sent" in iOS Mail. They're just not talking to each other. Any way to fix this?
PS: previous similar questions were server-specific, and none refered to MS Exchange.

I don't think this is resolved/resolvable in any straightforward way, though. Here's another thread:

  • Mail & Exchange (imap) & Blackberry Server, sent mail not visisble on mobile

I have setup my email account using mail and a Microsoft Exchange server 2000.
I use imap to access the Mailboxes (inbox, trash, drafts, sent mail is stored on the server)
On the Exchange server a BES is running and synchronises my Mail to my mobile Device.
Now, when I write a Mail using outlook on my PC, every Mail I sent, also appears on the mobile device - as expected.
The same is not true when I write a Mail using Apple Mail.
Even, if The mail is appearing in the send items folder on the Exchange Server, for some reason the BES server does not pick it up.
Does anyone know a tweak for mail to make this work ?

Something is wrong with the Mail app the last week and half or so.  Messages are disappearing, not getting synched, don't stay in the saved folders they are moved to, jump back at later dates (even days later) to the original inboxes, etc.  Very unstable and unreliable.  It was working better for a few months before this latest update, but is an absolutely messy nightmare right now. Changes made in Apple Mail are not getting reflected in other mail apps or on the external mail servers in a reliable, usefull manner.  Some do, some don't.   Use another mail app until Apple gets this fixed.

  • 1 of my 4 pop accounts is not saving sent mail to sent mail folder all the other are

When I send an email 3/4 of the accounts save the sent email to the sent email folder. 1 account sends the email out but does not save it??? I have updated to the latest version, I have checked that the location where it saves email is the same setting as all other accounts. Please help

I have 3 pop3 accounts and 1 imap. 1 of the pop accounts is not showing the sent email in the unified sent email folder. The one which is not showing sent email has the same outgoing mail server as one of the other accounts which is showing so i dont think it has anything to do with the email provider

  • Mail.app Sent mail attachments disappear (blue ? block icon instead)

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for some while now. When I look at my sent mail (stored on my mac) attachments randomly are not present and messages only show a blue block icon instead.
This happens with two accounts I have setup, me.com and gmail. Both are setup as imap. It happens with different kinds of files, pdfs, .doc, excel, etc.
I have rebuilt the mailboxes, repaired permissions, etc. but the problem persists.
    Anyone experiencing anything like this?

Sounds to me like a problem on the receiving end, or that the mail server is damaging the e-mail somehow to cause a problem on the receiving end.
When you send rich-text e-mail, it is normal that there will be two copies of the message in the e-mail...  one in HTML form and one in plain text.  The e-mail client is supposed to show the appropriate one, and allow the user to view a different one if desired.  (See the various "... Alternative" choices under Mail's View -> Message submenu.)
One solution would be to send plain text e-mails only.  Mail's rich text e-mails are HTML, and Outlook can't handle HTML e-mail worth a darn.

  • Mail Server Bouncing Mail

I am having a major problem since moving to 10.6 mail system. A lot of my mail is being bounced and never received, my logs are indicating this error,
    NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mail2.onlineregister.com[207.66.2.58]: 554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied;
This server still has 10.5 server on it's own RAID because I'm having to basically boot 10.5 up because that mail server works properly with no problems but I understand 10.6 has a completely different mail system.
Any ideas where how to troubleshoot, I have not made any DNS changes and set up this OS with the exact DNS info as previous so I'm stumped whats possibly configured wrong. I have read numerous threads on greylisting but is this cause of the problem, doesn't make sense to turn it off if it has a specific purpose.

    Thank you.

I made a couple of changes to the main.cf file.
    Before:
    mydomain = mydomain
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost,
    After:
    mydomain = mydomain.ca
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, server.mydomain.ca
Now email from my work account are going through, at first I removed greylisting too but commented out the change and left it as default, still working but some emails are delayed which os ok,it's completely bouncing I'm concerned with. Time will see today as I have not been getting hardly an email which was unusual.

  • Mail lost 'Sent Mails'

    Hello,
Mail lost all my sent mails today (only the few that were sent today are in my sent box). I have 3 accounts running through Mail but it's only my .mac account that seems to have a problem. Any suggestions??
    Thanks very much,
    Genee

Did you have any success resolving this? Same thing happened to me.

  • I have a new MacBook.  In mail, my sent mail only remains on my computer for 2 weeks.  Can I go somewhere to lengthen the time it remains in the file?

This is a 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina with OS 10.9.4.  I am unable to find out where to modify the length of time I can store "sent" mail.  I would like to change the setting from 2 weeks to "never remove".  I regularly find myself searching for previously sent email and am also constantly individually eliminating old sent mail.

Open Mail preferences and select Mailbox behaviors and check the box marked sent and choose NEVER.

  • Mail won't make new-mail or sent-mail sounds after sleep

I've had this issue for the last 6 months, probably ever since 10.7.3 update in May.
Mail stops making the usual noises after going to sleep one or two times. The weird thing is that it will store all the unplayed noises in a buffer and then suddenly decide to play a few months worth of sent-mail and incoming-mail noises at a rate of one per second for several minutes upon waking up. Apple was no help.
Restarting seems to solve the problem until the next sleep cycle when it starts up again. I did a full restore twice and it made no difference
Apple's mail specialist hadn't ever heard of this issue before when I called in September. It's not a game stopper but I worry it might be a hardware issue that I'd like to have fixed before my warrentee runs out.

I've never seen anything like this reported before. Verify/repair your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If the problem persists, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that the Console application displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem, and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that could have been written there as a result. Do you see anything that could provide a clue as to what's going on?
    Now, try this:
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account for testing purposes.
    2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
    3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there. Does the problem happen there as well?

  • Outgoing mail server using Mail is no good?  Have anything to do with iCloud?

I think after I switched over to iCloud - though I don't know why that would affect Mail - I now, can't get any messages to send.  Outgoing mail server is bad.  But I use the connection doctor and it says all is fine (green light).  Any help?!

When you enable Mail from the iCloud prefpane, iCloud automatically sets up Mail App for iCloud. There are occassional bugs in iCloud servers for me too. Uncheck Mail in the pref pane, delete the iCloud account from Mail and restart. After restart, again enable Mail in the iCloud pref pane. It should work now.

  • Tiger 10.4.8 - Mail Server clients mail messages stay flagged as unread

Mail messages in my IMAP mail box will not stay flagged as 'read'. They revert back to unread with the blue dot. Think this has been only happening since 10.4.8 upgrade, but I'm not sure. I have been reading the Mail Admin Guide and looking around on the web, but nothing seems to work.

Did you try and "Rebuild" the clients IMAP mailbox in the Mail.app on that clients Mac?
If yes, then you can reconstruct the user.
Download and install mailbfr from here http://osx.topicdesk.com/downloads/
    Stop mail services
    mailbfr -o #fix permissions
maibfr -m username #reconstructs mailbox for username
    Start mail services
I would then "Rebuild" the clients IMAP mailbox in the Mail.app. All mail in all the mailboxes will show up as new or unread. You might also have to subscribe to the IMAP boxes again.
If that does not work I'm at a lose.
