Log & Capture "Incomplete" file

Hey guys,
I've got a problem capturing a single file. In the Log & Capture window, it shows "Incomplete" beside the clip, but there are two things about that. First, I have another "Incomplete" clip that captures fine, and second, I can see the entire clip in the Log & Capture window. So why can't I just get that video from the preview to the FCP project? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lawrence

  • Problems with Log& capture AVCHD files in Final cut 7.0.3

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to log and capture a hole file of AVCDH (with several clips in it) in Final cut 7.0.3.
When I open the file final cut only detects have of the clips, the others are with duration: 0 and no content.
The first ones are succesfully transfered.
    Can anyone help me?
The files were recorded in AVCHD 1080p 50.
    Thanks.
    Raquel

That's why you can't convert...you are converting the supported frame rates.
yes, EditReady is TONS better. They are always on top of the latest AVCHD formats (every camera uses a different variant of AVCHD).  It used to be that they had two apps...EditReady for QT formats and  ClipWrap2 for AVCHD...but they have now rolled all of those features into EditReady...one app for everything. They have a free demo so you can try it and see for yourself.

  • Complete Capture, Incomplete File

I've successfully captured my source footage, 50;50;and some change, but in the FCE bin, it shows it as only 30;20;19, but when I open the file in Finder, it shows as 50;50;XX. What gives?

  • External portal capturing internal portal URL in Log and trace file

    Hi,
We are facing one issue in portal like we have two portals for internal (Intranet) and external (Internet) users.
Once users logged in the application and try to get the information about mylink from the external portal link (internet) they should not get any information about the internal portal.
But in log and trace file we can see the external portal link capturing the internal portal URL.
We need to find, from where system capturing the internal portal URL.
    Thanks.

The tkproffed trace file is in seconds.
"set timing" is in hh:mi:ss.uu format. So 00:00:01.01 is 1.01 seconds.
You have to remember that most of these measurements are rounded. While your trace file says it contains one second of trace data, you know it's more.
One excellent resource for trace files is "Optimizing Oracle Performance" by Cary Millsap & Jeff Holt. (http://www.amazon.com/Optimizing-Oracle-Performance-Cary-Millsap/dp/059600527X ) I thought I knew trace files before, but this book brings your knowledge to a whole new level.
There is also an excellent WP by Cary Millsap ( http://method-r.com/downloads/doc_details/10-for-developers-making-friends-with-the-oracle-database-cary-millsap ) that gives you some insight.

  • Video & Audio Files Logged & Captured Independently. Why?

    Hello All,
I've been working with a Panasonic DVX 100B for some time now. I've had nothing but success in shooting footage, and transferring it to my computer using the Log & Capture function. On my latest attempt something has happened that I can't figure out. The video and audio are captured, but they are not linked. In other words, I can find the video file in my Capture Scratch / Project Folder, but when I import it into my project, there is no audio accompanying it. I can however find the audio file in the Audio Capture Scratch, and import that. When placed at the same playhead location on the timeline, they are perfectly in sync. This is nice, but it makes editing an unnecessary struggle.
I tried logging and capturing twice, to see if it was just a glitch. The same thing occurred.
Did I bump something inadvertently? What's happening? Finally, is there a way to permanently connect the audio and video now, or do I need to log and capture again (3rd time being a charm)?
    Thanks.
    DG

You changed the capture scratch disk setting.
    • Uncheck "capture audio and video to separate files".
To link the audio and video
    • Once the audio and video are in the timeline and aligned, select them then: Modify>Link (⌘+L)

  • Hmc150 Video files disappear or aren't imported during Log & Capture

I'm having a terrible problem when importing video clips using Log & Capture on FCExpress.
The clips are on 5 different SDHC cards, recorded on a hmc150.
Some clips appear just fine. But when I search for clips after the import only about half of them are there. Also FCE is naming each clip in chronological order, often replacing previously captured clips. This results in no order.
I cannot trust that my computer uploaded what it says is there.
I'm using a 17" MacBook Pro with intel. And saving my clips on an external harddrive. Plenty of RAM. Plenty of storage space.
Why is FCE spacing out?? Could it be the card reader?

I am experiencing the same thing (I think).
I'm running a Mac Pro with FCE 4.0.1 and a Sony HDD HD Camcorder. I'm importing from a saved copy of the Camcorder's HDD (running from a local HDD). I'm importing about 2000 clips, and about 3/4 of the way in, clips look like they're importing fine, but are not showing up in the Clips list. Then I go back and see that instead of adding new clips, it was actually over-writing other clips that I had imported earlier in the same Log & Transfer process.
It's frustrating, and has happened multiple times, with different groupings of clips. There is then a lot of backtracking because there is no date/time metadata in the imported clips.
Any help would be appreciated, or if it is a known and unresolved issue, it would be nice just to know I'm not crazy.
    Thanks.

  • Batch capture incomplete and file loss

I'm having some annoying problems on Final Cut 5.1. Pretty much every time I perform a batch capture 1 file remains uncaptured - I definately always select them all, and usually when I select that file and do the batch capture again on the one file it works fine.
Also, especially on larger captured video files, sometimes when I restart the application it loses a captured video file, usually one of the ones that wasn't captured on the first run.
Can someone please help, its slowing down my work as I have to keep going over files again and recapturing them all the time.
    Thanks

Yes it is MAC OS extended, I heard this was the best option, was I wrong? Its USB 2 rather than firewire, is this not the right choice with a Mac? USB 2 drives always worked fine on my PC - I've only recently made the Mac crossover.
Yep. MAC OS EXTENDED - Good
    No. USB - Bad
While some do use it with success it is not recommended for video capture. Use FW 400 or 800. The way I understand, it's not a question of speed but of how information is delivered. USB sends in bursts while FW sends in a stead uninterrupted flow.
I think Studio X posted a good explanation of this recently. Might do a search here for more info.
So give FW a try... may not be the solution, but trying will eliminate that as a possibility and you're better off using FW anyway.

  • How do I remove damaged or incomplete files from computer?

I have had difficulty removing about a dozen files from my computer. I have tried all resources that I possess including using the original installation  procedure for Maverick (as described) to no avail. I've tried renaming, seeing if they are locked (they aren't) unlocking the bottom lock in the "Get Info" window, and still no luck. All files contain no bytes of information and some possess a "do Not Open" symbol (a shaded circle with a line through it) I get a message that says it can't be deleted because it is damaged or possibly incomplete files. Some are listed as tmp. files, "Image Capture," "1 Password, and "remove.rtf." I was able to rename them, ie. a single letter "u" but still no luck. Running ther latest Maverick on a MacBook Pro. Any help would be appreciated. A minor problem to be sure, nevertheless. . . . .

    Quoting from the Help:
If you are an administrator for your computer, you can delete user accounts on your computer that are no longer needed.
When you delete a user account, you can choose to save the user's files or delete them.
IMPORTANT: If the user's account is encrypted (FileVault is turned on), turn FileVault off for the user before you delete the account.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Select the user account you want to delete, then click Delete '-'.
Click OK to save the user's files on the computer, or click Delete Immediately to remove the user account and all the user's files.
If you saved the user's files, they are stored in a disk image in the Deleted Users folder, which is in the Users folder on your Mac OS X disk. To see the saved files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder. You can drag the disk image to the Trash to delete the files.
Note that you have to create a new admin user account for yourself before you proceed: you cannot delete the only admin account on the computer (which would leave you unable to do anything).

  • "Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size To" doesn't work

I put the limit to 4000 MB before i startet capturing HD-video, but it didn't work. Several of my files are bigger than 4 GB. This is a problem since I use an online back up service that has 5 GB as the maximum file limit. Any suggestion to fix this problem is highly appreciated.

I believe, although I am not 100% sure, that the "Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size To" does not apply to Log and Transfer, only Log and Capture.
Since Log and Capture works with tape sources, when the limit is hit, the tape can be stopped, pre-rolled and started again to create another clip
In the case of Log and Transfer, it is ingesting and transcoding existing files; the clip lengths (and therefore size) are already determined by the source clip.
If you are working with very lengthy clips, you may want to set in and out points to divide the clips into smaller segments.

  • Log & Capture -- audio out of sync

We are editing a feature doc...we logged & captured a few tapes. We are not certain of the fps rate that the DV was shot. We are told it is 24p. We are working off of dubs...if that makes a differnce???
When we do a advanced pulldown the audio is really out of sync. When we capture at 29.97fps, it is also out of sync. We are baffled. Below is the warning that we get when we batch capture and the capturing is completed:
<<The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does
not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the
video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the
audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of
    your tape.>>
We would love to edit this in 29.97fps to be able to view off our monitor.
Are there any suggestions to troubleshoot?
We are proceeding to log, but not capture. Is this wise? Or should we find out what is wrong first?
    Thanks, joeyngloria

I'm delighted--in a sick way--to see this topic being posted today, since I'm having a very similar problem:
While capturing HD footage shot with, and captured from, a Sony HDR-FX1, I noticed that the A/V were out of sync by a solid second, maybe longer (FCP 5.1.4). The problem is there from the start of each of two tapes, and it's there throughout. Both tapes are 1 hour of continuous film with no cuts (they were interviews).
There's no sync problem when the footage is viewed on the camera's LCD, and it doesn't matter if I capture to my external drive (Maxtor, 500 gig, FW 800, empty) or to my iMac (1.6 Ghz) hard drive (something I did as an experiment to test whether there was something going on with the external drive).
Captured clips played in the viewer faithfully reproduce the out of sync A/V.
    Appreciate your help.

  • Log & Capture Sequence of steps help needed

I wonder if someone could help me find out what I’m doing wrong. I’m trying to accomplish a batch log & capture. As I understand it, I should choose File >Log & Capture. Start the camcorder and mark the In and Out points, Enter the logging information in the fields, then click, “Log,” then continue in this fashion marking the in and out points until completed. Then I click Batch Capture, and the software takes over rewinding the tape. It then moves forward capturing each segment. Something is not working right for me. Sometimes the individual clips appear in the left side column with red lines through them, which I think means the clip is offline. Is my sequence of steps correct?

    Hi -
Your workflow is essentially correct, difficulties usually result from two problems -
    1) The timecode on the tape is not in continuous, ascending order - example: the timecode resets to a lower timecode number half way through the tape. Now the computer does not know where to correctly find the logged clips.
    AND
    2) The in point you have marked does not allow enough pre-roll time for the tape to cue up, roll and lock video prior to your in point - example: you mark in on the first frames of a video clip that is starting immediately following a blank portion of tape. Now the computer does not have a legitimate video/timecode location to cue up to, to allow pre-roll to your selected in point.

  • Log & Capture problem

Howdy folks! So here is the problem....
Log & capturing a Sony DV 80 tape from Sony DSR-11.
After a few minutes capture stops and dialogue box states...."Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape".
The tape plays back just fine in the preview mode but will not load in the log & capture mode.
I have tried the following: capture now mode, playing back from camera tape was originally shot on, making a copy of tape and then trying to capture. None of these things have worked.
Would love to hear back from anyone on how to load tape up if possible.
In all the years I have never had this problem, so maybe it IS just a bad tape and I have to give up.
    Thanks for your time,
    Liza

So after making the composite video and editing in FCP I am ready to render.
What are your sequence settings? You should not need to render at all if you're just doing regular ol' DV.
Liza Sanchez wrote: Dialog box keeps coming up "File Error: Illegal name".
After going threw all the normal checks ie., keystrokes, numbers and names for errors, giving
project a different name. I can still not render. There are no "red" lines just "green" lines for
    rendering.
Be sure your prefs for FCP have a properly designated Render Scratch disk, you've got room on that drive, and there's a folder been created for your project. I'm betting you've got render asigned to your System drive.
This could be more of a Finder issue than an FCP error. But without watching over your shoulder it's literally impossible to begin to guess. You can search the forum for that specific error.
    Liza Sanchez wrote:
Do you think b/c it is a composite/digital file that is why I am having problems?
Not related at all. You made a composite compy of your tape but you captured via FW directly to the DV codec. Your sequence should also be DV.
    Liza Sanchez wrote:
I am going to try and export to compressor just to see what happens.
There's no reason to do this at all but what are you planing on sending to Compressor? The media or the sequence?

  • Will Not Preview clip in Log & Capture w/ Point&Shoot Camera

Hi, I am trying to capture from a point-and-shoot camera, the Canon ZR500. I have the camera hooked up with Firewire and FCP recognizes the camera. In Log & Capture, however, the clip playing on the camera will not preview in the window. When I hit capture now, I get the spinning beachball of death! I have tried different firewire cords. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Help!

I am trying to capture from a point-and-shoot camera, the Canon ZR500.
Is this a still camera that can shoot video? If so, you will need to offload the files and convert them in another application, maybe something from Canon that only runs on a PC. Search for that camera model here on the forum, you may find some useful pre-existing threads.

  • Log & Transfer or Log & Capture?

At College we're using Final Cut Pro 7, I've never used it before, I've only used Final Cut Express 4.
They're very similar, so there's little more to learn (I used FCE4 for a while, until I moved to Premiere Pro; I understand Final Cut decently well), but FCE4 didn't have the Log & Capture option of FCP7, so I was using Log & Transfer.
About 2 weeks ago we set up a folder for ourselves on the computers, there's only one MiniDV tape per group, so only one person was able to import the video. Our technician told us how to set it up, but told us to use Log & Capture. I'm not sure if the person importing it pressed a button by accident, but it ended up in 1 file. I want to know if Log & Transfer will seperate each take, or if there's a button to seperate each take using Log & Capture...there's no way the College is going to get me to edit with a single file!
I will ask my teacher about this next time, but for now I'd like to know why it was just one file and if Log & Transfer will seperate them. I don't have FCP7 with me (Nor FCE4 either) so I can't test it. I'll probably be doing it tomorrow.

Log and Capture is the tool to capture from TAPE.
Log and Transfer is the tool to capture from TAPELESS MEDIA, like P2, Compact Flash, SD cards.
Unless you log the tape first...break up the tape into chunks.  This is something Final Cut Express didn't do.  Final Cut Pro allows you to watch the tape, make in and out marks, make clips that you capture later.  So you only capture what you want, and you can break the tape up by scene and take, or by subject matter.  So you can log all the clips first, then Batch Capture.  Look this up in the manual, it's all laid out.
Now, why won't the college let you edit with a single file? That makes no sense.  YOu can also make SUBCLIPS of that single file.  Mark IN and OUT on the file, then Make Subclip (CMD-U).  name those what you want.  they will be individual clips, but they all point to the single file.
