Logging in to support communites

Why must I log in everytime I open this page?  I get the email notification that a new thread has been addded, I can't reply to it, unless I am logged in, in which case it takes me out of the thread I was in to log in, but then not back?  Then I have to sift through  my posts or, reopen my email, but leaving the current page open, to reply to a thread that was emailed to me directly.  Just a pain in the butt.

Ok Hannah. I have just had a bit of a read of some articles on the net and it seems that getting Hotmail to work with Mail.app is not easy.
You may find some of the discussion in this thread helpful. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3193359
It starts off talking about mail on iPhone but towards the end there are some ideas about getting it going on Lion.
It seems that an alternative is to try a plug-in for Mail.app that handles the communications with Hotmail. You may want to look at http://www.hawkwings.net/2011/07/26/hotmail-yahoo-and-lions-mail/  for some links. Note that I don't have Hotmail so I can not vouch for any of this.

  • My original Apple ID is giving me grief when I try to log on to Support- Communities.  Can somebody help?

I had to create a new email address, then using the new email address I created this Apple ID to log in here.  But my normal email address (and original Apple ID) is giving me nothing but grief when I try to log on to support->communities.  On my iPhone: [ When I type in my normal email address and password, I'm taken to another login page that says in red letters "Please sign in again.  For added security, we need to reconfirm your Apple ID."  When I re-enter my password, I get an error "Safari cannot open the page. The error was: "cannot decode raw data". " ]
On my iMac running Firefox, same story but the error is something about unable to load data because of an unsupported compressed format, and it says to contact the web administrator (which would be Apple) - when I press the button "try again" it gets me to the appleid.apple.com page that asks me to pick a user name (to be seen by other members of the community).  From there I also run in circles (see below):
Telephone tech support keeps sending me to appleid.apple.com which also gives me nothing but grief:  it asks me to pick a user id (a nickname to be used in the forums) but when I do, I get the error message in red font telling me that there is already somebody using my Apple ID (which is of course my email and therefore is my account)  -- so why are they asking me to pick a user ID if I already have one?  This is very frustrating.  When I call and talk to tech support, they try to get me to buy extended service to help me log in, but the reason I'm trying to log in to support->communities is because I can't afford extended service.  The people patient enough to stay on the phone tell me to go to iTunes and fill out a support request, but there's no option to fill out a support request for website difficulties.  Please help!
I think this is probably because my original Apple ID was "mtalldude" and instead of creating a new account when Apple switched to using email addresses as Apple IDs I just changed my ID to my email address. My original ID may be ten or twenty years old. I don't mind saying that my new login id (the one I'm having trouble with) is sal_mander at hotmail in case a website administrator is reading this and can help me and needs this info and can reset whatever is broken and is not allowing me to pick a user name.  Please don't spam me fellow humans!

Thanks for the flag J.K. - they contaced me and solved my problem.  On this account (which I created just to ask this question), I log in with my email rather than my user name (mtalldud). On the account that I was having trouble with, they told me to use my user ID instead of my email to log in and it worked. This is a bit confusing and seems a bit inconsistent but at least I don't need this temporary account any more to get into this community and find answers!

  • Cannot log onto Apple Support Communities under established Apple ID

I had to create a new Apple ID (one I have neither desire nor intention to use) in order to get back on to the Support Forum. When I log in with my old established Apple ID it prompts me to choose a user name--then I get caught in this ****-loop where it refuses any user name I give it and keeps kicking me back to the log in screen. Attached is a screen shot of the offending error message.
Anyone know what to do about this?

I ran into this one a while back. Turned out that I was trying to log in using the incorrect Apple ID. Actually what I was trying to use was my Apple Support Communities username instead of the Apple ID. I bet if you use the old Apple ID at the initial login, it will work for you.

  • Cannot log into Apple Support Communities with Safari

This has just started happening to me in the last few days - glad I kept firefox on the iMac - and I see that it has happened at least once before in 2009 but the link to fix it does not work (and I have only letters in my name).
When I enter my log in info and press log in, it gives me the text below.
Looking for something in Apple Support Communities?
The page you tried was not found. You may have used an outdated link or may have typed the address (URL) incorrectly.
Please visit the main page of Apple Support Communities for links to discussion areas.
Once I see this page, when I go back to Support main page and select Apple Support Communities icon or Join the conversation, I get the same page each time.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

It just now happened to me too - even quitting FF and trying again was futile. I tried so many avenues that I think the glitch went away while trying this and that. It may be fortunate that Jive coders are responsible for the SiteWare with all the brouhaha over 8x and BASH hitting at the same time. My Aggies pulled out a miracle comeback this afternoon

  • Two Apple IDs, can't log into Support Communities with newest one

Hi, I have an old Apple ID (very old, actually, from the earliest date of being able to have one) and a new Apple ID that I want to use for access to the support community.
Problem: I cannot access the support community with my new ID.
I can access it with my old ID. That's how I accessed the support communities to post this request for help.
    This is what happens:
I go to Support --> Communities
I enter my newer Apple ID
I enter my correct passwordNote - I use this combination on iTunes for purchases all the time. It works. This isn't a password issue.
I then get asked to establish a sceen name.
I enter a name that (finally) hasn't been taken by someone else and click the button at the bottom of the screen, to continue.
An error message returns stating that there is another account using that e-mail address (my newer Apple ID).
I can never get past this error message using my newer Apple ID.
The system won't let me log in using my new Apple ID. It says my new Apple ID - which is a .mac account e-mail - is already used by someone else. But that someone else is me. I'm not trying to replace my new ID, I'm not trying to alter the password on my new Apple ID, I just can't get past the step where the system rejects any and all attempts to create a screen name associated with my newer Apple ID.
Something's messed up. I just want to use my newer Apple ID and pretty much forget about the older one.

    HI,
I have in the past "Created" a Support Communities "Alias" for at least one if not two  @mac.com accounts
I have create a number of @mac.com accounts as "iChat Names" as the @mac.com registration Page advertised them as during the MobileMe period.
I have checked one on the Apple ID page and logged in (I had to change the password first)
It seems the one I checked had only the @mac.com address and no alternative email address.
(I am sure if I used this one in Messages it would cause problems.)
I am sure another required me to set up an alternative email and that required me to remove one of my three external emails from another ID.
I would still use the "Contact iTunes Support" link to see if they can sort it out.

  • Cannot use my Apple ID to log into Support Communities

I can't log into support communities using my Apple ID.
I have to log in using an older e-mail address I used when Apple first started cloud-like services MANY YEARS ago.
The e-mail address I have to use is obsolete and I'd just like to abandon its use for support communities.
When I try to log into support communities with my Apple ID the site starts acting like a Microsoft site and keeps redirecting me in loops to the same nonfunctional page.
Weird, I know, that's why I'm writing this.
Why can't I log into support communities with my Apple ID?

glitch du jour - pépin de la journée - pépin de l'heure - pépin de la minute - take your pick
the intermittent nature makes these (possibly unrelated) misbehaviors really hard to diagnose and fix for the coders. I do not not envy their job.

  • Apple Support Communities permalinks fail when logged in (work only whilst signed out)

    Example
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15351904#15351904 should present a reply by Elizabeth Vetter on the third page of a discussion.

If threaded is a partial workaround, it is not ideal. I rarely prefer threaded.
    Side note
The narrowness of threaded (more generally, the narrow non-elastic design of Apple Support Communities at this time) makes it unnecessary difficult to work with plain text, as is used when pasting code.

  • I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?

    Question:-
I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time or other portal and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?
    Answer:-
For a Name to work in iChat it has to be an Valid AIM screen Name.
Only Apple IDs from the @mac.com ending names registered here  and the Mobileme (@Me.com ending) names are Valid with the AIM service as well as being Apple IDs
(I am still working on info about registering with iCloud at the moment but if this does give you an @Me.com email it may well be a valid AIM name as well)
    NOTES:-
The @mac.com page works by linking an external (Non Apple) email with a @mac.com name.
This External Email cannot be one linked to an Existing Apple ID (you have to use a second email or register at AIM )
The options at AIM are to use your existing email or create new name and link the existing only for Password recovery
MobileMe (@me.com ending names) were valid Emails addresses, Apple IDs AND a Valid AIM Screen Name
@mac.com names look like emails but are only Apple IDs and iChat/AIM Valid Screen Names.
The AIM registration page seems to be pushing you to register [email protected] This is relatively new and I have not followed through the pages to find out if it a valid AIM email (Previously you could register a name without an @whatever.com suffix)

    Question:-
So I have my current [email protected] email in iChat as I thought as I had linked that to an Apple ID it was a Valid iChat Name.  It keeps coming up with a UserName or Password Invalid message.  What do I do next ?
    Answer:-
    Open iChat
Go to the Menu under the iChat name in the Menu Bar and then Preferences and then Accounts in the new window.
Commonly written as iChat > Preferences > Accounts as directions/actions to take.
If it displays with a Yellow running name in the list you have a choice.
Either register it at AIM (I would use a different password to the ISP Login) and then change the password only in iChat  (It may take you to confirm any Confirmation email from AIM first) in iChat > Preferences > Accounts
Or you register a new Name at AIM (Or at @mac.com) and enter that (details below)
If you have a Blue Globe name  (@mac.com) that will not Login the chances are that it the password that is the issue.
Apple lets you create longer passwords than can be used with the AIM Servers.
Change the Password at iForgot to no more than 16 characters.
Then change the password in iChat as details above.
Adding a new Account/Screen Name in iChat (that is valid with the AIM servers)
    Open iChat if not launched.
Go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Click the Add ( + )  Button at the bottom of the list.
Choose in the top item drop down either @Mac.com or AIM depending on what you registered
Add the name (with @mac.com the software will add the @mac.com bit)
Add in the password.  (If you don't add it now iChat will ask you each time you open it)
    Click Done.
The Buddy List should open (New Window)
The Accounts part of the Preferences should now have the new name and you should be looking at the details.
You can add something in the Description line which will then title the Buddy List (Useful when you have two or more names) and make it show up as that in the iChat Menu > Accounts and the Window Menu of iChat when logged in.
You can then highlight any other Account/Screen Name you don't want to use and use the Minus ( - ) Button to delete it.

  • How to reset your user name on apple support communities?

If your dont remember your user name in the  Apple Support Communities, how can you reset it?

Do you mean the ID you use as a login, rather than the name which appears here ('nunski')? Do you know what you last used to log in here? If not, go to Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access and see if it is listed under 'discussions.apple.com'
Since it's difficult to stay logged in here for any length of time, you must presumably have logged in in the not too distant past?
If Keychain doesn't help, go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Find Your Apple ID'.

  • How can I change my Apple Support Communities Name?

How can I change my Apple Support Communities Name? I want to change it because I made it a long time ago and want a different name. I want to start using Apple Support Communities a lot more and start helping people, But I want a different name.

It is possible he was incorrect.
    > When you signed up you were not given the opportunity to create an alias? I find that hard to believe given the number of people who have joined since that have there own alias. Apple assigned xdcdx to you?
Yes, back on 2007 I chose xdcdx.
Forward to 2011: I change the email address of my Apple ID to my current email address.
I login to Apple Support Communities (which I had not logged in to since 2007) and to my surprise I see this nickname that I almost didn't remember using here.
For me, it's irrational that I am able to change the main email address of my Apple ID (is there any piece of information more important than that?), but not this little username on this subpar forum system (subpar because of the web design/engineering, I don't mean to offend all the people here which are always quite helpful).
I upgrade to iCloud, and my email address gets hardcoded to my Apple ID. That's good, because I want this email address. In that case, they make sure to warn you that you had to chose an email address as an Apple ID for iCloud. That was not the case in this forums.

How many million participants have these forums?
At least you do not seem to disagree with me that these forum are subpar compared to the usual Apple perfectionism level (see iCloud nice web user interface, for another fine example). This thing still looks like a forum from 2007.
    > Yes on an extremely limited basis Apple has made the change for longtime users (only two that I know of) with one of those a request for security reasons. That does not mean it is easy.
I still am not convinced that it is technically that difficult. I think it just a policy on part of Apple to avoid banal username change requests.
In part, I am not more active in this forums because I do not want my words to be associated to this nickname, becayse it is used on internet by tons of other people for other stuff, as a Google result will show.
Anyway, thanks for your words. I'll keep looking from time to time for the username change feature, because I do want to contribute to these forums.

  • Apple Support Communities Login Broken?!?

    There we go again....
I'm not sure I'll be able to explain what is happening, so I made a screen recording (unlisted): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62yUDXJoPBc
Basically I can browse the discussions here as a guest with no problem, but as soon as I login (when I need to post a question for example) I get redirected to an error page. It happens on all browsers I have  (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) and the only way around it is either wait till my session expires (and I'm "logged off") or delete all apple.com cookies/cache. Strangely, it only happens with my US apple ID. While the one I'm currently logged in as (my Bulgarian ID) has no problems... and thank God I have 2 IDs, otherwise I wouldn't be able to post here and get help (frustrating).
Any idea what is causing this?
Would you be so kind to may be consider helping me?
    P.S.
    - Fine. No rants. I'll send you some constructive feedback over the weekend when I'm less affected. Hopefully I won't be using too many curses.
    - Just out of curiosity, if I have a login problem, which will obviouslly prevent me from posting here, how do I contact support, considering we don't have phone or e-mail Apple support available in Bulgaria?

Ok... The problem is not with a device, it is with the apple support communities web site and my apple ID in particular... Thus, I post to the "Using the apple support communities" part of the forum, which I find as "proper" as it could possibly be.
    Or am I wrong?

  • Deleting Apple Support Communities Account?

    Hi everyone,
I have searched the forums and Google and so far have come to the conclussion that it's not possbile on my end to delete a ASC account, but is possible on the backend some how?
I created a new account without realizing my friend was logged into to his iOS developer account, thus creating an account for him, with my username. No posts have been made under this account nor has any other activity taken place.
Is it possible to have this account deleted? Or at least the username changed?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I will say that the Hosts tend to have a small range of reasons that they will actually do this for.
In the cases where people create an Alias that is the same as their Email address or something similar that makes them a little too indentifiable the the Hosts might do it for Privacy reasons.
Obviously that includes things like listing yourself as a partnership (JanetandJohn for Instance) and there may be an issue over ownership of that ID/Alias.
To Be Clear - we are talking about changes to the Alias  associated with the Apple Support Communities rather than anything about the actual  Apple ID you are using to Login.
If you had an Apple ID that was used with an Alias created fro the old Version of the Software  used to run the Forums then normally you are unable to change it. (it will be a hosts decision as to whether they feel a change would be possible.  It may pay to check any likely Alias you do want to use is not in use already. Use the Search feature.)
The Original Poster  has the easiest time as he can just create a New ID and Alias if he wants to use the Support Communities.
I can see he may feel honour bound top sort things out for his Friend's account.
If there are bits of your Apple ID that you can change this Apple Page may help.

  • How do I stop emails from apple support communities

almost a year ago I turned to apple support communities for a Q. Now a year later long after the problem has since been resolved, I am still getting very annoying updates.  I have tried logging in and changing my preferences, but that did not stop the emails.  I tried bouncing them back...didn't work.  I tried turning to apple "contact us"  but that is not easy without coming here first...Now I fear I may be just starting a new list of emails, but here we go...STOP EMAILING ME!

The Email preferences are not the problem, they only control what will happen they have no affect on what is happening now.
You can identify the source of the email,  the community or thread, in the email. Go to that thread or community and turn off the email notification from there.
If you can'tt identify the particular thread or community from the email follow the instructions in the link King_Penguin posted.

  • Apple support communities access question

I am puzzled.  I don't know or understand why I get an "Unauthorized" notification when checking the Apple support communities after I log in.  Just below that heading is a banner which states: "It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake."  This occurs when I click on a link in an email to view the full discussion regarding a message I previously posted which was removed by Apple.
Is the error message because my prior message was removed and can't be accessed?  What's confusing to me is that the email from Apple contains the link.  I can understand the message removal, but am confused by the link to the discussion that only presents me with the error message.  I think my username and login password are right, or else I don't think I would be able to post this question.

Yes, it is. The message was removed after you got the email.
