Lumia 800 switches itself on when charging

If I switch off my Lumia 800 and then connect the charger, the phone switches itself on.
While on charge if I switch off the phone it again switches itself back on.
Is this correct behaviour?

A question for you then, Psychomania. How do you go about the fact your phone is always on at night? This is the first Nokia I've ever had to leave on for the alarm to go off and, the reason I'm writing this at 4.30am is that an email has just woken me up!
There is only one volume control, no profiles to time for overnight use so what's the solution? Is it flight mode?
I've had the Lumia for just over a week now, am loving it but certain quirks still need to be understood.
Cheers.

  • Lumia 800 Turning itself off!

    Dear NOKIA, up until now I have just put up with this phone simply because it has lots of style and and I really like the look of it, obviously as you're probably aware this phone has had lots of complaints most of which are very valid points (BATTERY LIFE, LACK OF BLUETOOTH, LACK OF NOTIFICATIONS, NOT BEING ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE AN SMS TONE, NO MASS STORAGE) Over the last 3 months I have chose to put up with this but today I can no longer 'just put up with it'.......
    Last night I set my three alarms on my Lumia to ensure I woke up for work on time, I woke up an hour late for work with no sign of an alarm!(5am) This probably had a lot to do with the fact the phone had turned itself off! I turned it back on, and left for work.  by the time i arrived at work (5.30am) the phone had once again turned itself off! By 8am I noticed again phone was off, surprisingly at 10am I needed to use the phone and it was ON and ready to use! However by 12midday it had turned itself off again! In all the phone has turned itself off 6 times today! obviously the phone had been charged to full capacity over night so has had pretty much a full charge most of the morning? So can someone explain what is going on with it, and what is my next step, I can put up with most things (cosmetic) but how on earth do you expect customers to want to use a phone that is more unreliable than british rail in the 80's? IF there is such a thing in the nokia world as 'customer care' would they PLEASE reply to this post???
    Luke, an extremely frustrated, leaning toward disgruntled Nokia Lumia 800 user

    I'm having the same problem with my Lumia 800 restarting. The first device did this so regularly I had to have it swapped out for a new (well, refurbished) device. I know four other people with this device, two of whom report no problem but one of whom has had the same issue and also had to have her device swapped out. Even with the replacement, I'm noticing that the phone is restarting 2-3 times a day and there is no pattern to this behaviour. Often happens when the phone is dormant but also ocassionally when in use. Very frustrating but not sure if entirely linked to this phone as I had to change our my LG Optimus for the same reason - it started restarting after an earlier update (no longer available to me to roll back to). So, is it Windows or the phone? Either way, Nokia, really like a response to this as it's not great and having encouraged my other friend to select WP7 over iPhone, it's starting to look like bad advice. We all love the OS and the style of the phone etc is awesome. Battery life is poor but perhaps a future update will fix this but the restarting is an annoyance that can't be ignored and I'll be sending this phone back for a replacement too if the problem persists.

  • My iPad switches itself off when I'm on the Internet help

    When I'm using my iPad on the net it switches itself off and I'm having to turn it back on again and out in my password I only want to use it properly

    Hi Lisah,
    It sounds like you may have some corrupted files in the operating system -- when built-in apps and features like Camera and Siri malfunction, corrupted files are often the culprit.  There are a few things you can do to fix this -- first thing I'd recommend would be to back up your device to make sure you have all of your current data and settings saved.  Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
    After backing up your data, try resetting all settings in Settings > General > Reset.  Try the camera and charger again to see if you still see the same strange behavior.  If so, there's likely a corrupted file in the iOS installation.  It's pretty easy to reinstall the operating system files to fix this -- you will need a computer with internet access.  Follow the steps in Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support to completely reinstall the iOS files and get a fresh, clean installation.
    After using iTunes to restore the phone, go through the setup assistant on the phone and choose the option to Set up as a new iPhone.  Set it up as new and test the camera again -- if it works this time, that's a good sign!  After making sure it works properly, you can restore from the backup that created before doing all of the resets and restores.  This will bring your content and settings back to the phone.
    Good luck!

  • Trouble between Lumia 800 and nokia ac-10e charger

    Hi,
    I haven't got no more the original charger that was in the nokia lumia 800 box and I bought an original nokia ac-10e charger. All was ok until I made the update 7.10 (8170) yesterday. If I put on the charger the phone will charge for 1-2 minutes and the shut down -> switch on again -> shut down again, not charging the phone. If I link to pc it's ok.
    Someone knows why?
    Thanks a lot,
    Igor

  • Lumia 830 switches itself off and then on!

    My new Lumia has a gremlin. Every few days it will switch itself off and immediately on again. I notice there is no "goodbye" screen. Usually I am on the internet of using an app and the phone freezes and then goes off. When it switches on I have to set the clock again to the correct time. Kinda annoying for a brand new phone.

    Thanks for sharing your Lumia 830 experience in Microsoft Mobile Community, prashantarora. If you're still experiencing the rebooting issue, consider trying the fixes given here: My phone does not work or respond as expected. Any update about the outcome will be appreciated. The content of the link is applicable regardless of your location. If you're no longer experiencing the said issue, that's great. Feel free to share how you made that happen.

    just regular FireWire cable (6-6 pin) - when you use target mode, computer acts as if it was external hard drive and supposed to show up on another Mac's desktop as a drive - you could use Disk Utility on another Mac and format the PowerBoook.
    if there is some hardware problem though, sometimes target mode won't work.
    also, maybe try some other OS disc just in case your OS CD is defective somehow.

  • Ally turns itself on when charging

    My new Ally always turns itself on when it charges.  I can turn it off manually, but it comes back on within 30 seconds.
    If not charging, the phone will power off and stay off.
    How do I keep it off while charging?
    Thanks,

    Even with the battery pulled, I have read that these new SMARTPHONES have internal nuclear power sources to prevent anti-government subversives from doing just this battery pull work around. Don't know if they have a fix for the lead box, yet, but I am sure it is just a matter of time.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 what's happen?

    Hi i have a lumia 800... I charged my phone and when is 100% it's only 1 day and 2 hours written....  My phone i ready to work only 15-19 hours....I use it normaly it's mean : 20min talk, about 20-30 sms and 10-20 min internet.... everything I off except email ( take email- immediately) localization is off the same with many aplication.... I have a new soft and still my phone go only 15-19 hours.... your lumia 800 also work 15-17 and then on battery you see heart??
    thanks for answer

    Yes I have a Lumia 800 but not using it since I got the Lumia 920. I usually get 2 days during the week and maybe 3 days during a quiet weekend. Same with most of my other smart phones.
    You cannot compare the latest smartphones to the 3310. Smartphones have big colour screens, wifi, touchscreen, emails and messages always synching, more powerful processors. The power consumption is so much higher. 120-220mA is high for idle. Probably because your phone is doing something in the background.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 bricked

    Hi All,
    I have had a (relatively!) trouble-free Lumia 800 for the last 10 months or so. It is on Vodafone UK, and runs the latest software updates.
    Today, I had it plugged into the laptop at work and had just removed Facebook as an account (I have been trying to get my message updates to work), and whilst it was plugged into the laptop via USB I performed a full turn-off by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
    However, it now will not turn on at all, no matter what I do to it. It was pretty much fully charged when this happened, and here is the list of things I have tried:
    Left it plugged into the laptop for more than 2 hours;
    Warmed the phone up by leaving it in (hot!) direct sunlight;
    Held down the power button for about a minute both plugged in and unplugged;
    Held down Volume-Down, Power and Camera buttons both plugged in and unplugged;
    Plugged it into a laptop and stand-along charger;
    Done pretty much all of the above whilst removing and replacing SIM card etc.
    However, all the above do absolutely nothing at all, and the phone is well and truely completely bricked. I am really struggling with this - is there anything anyone can suggest? Is there some sort of complete reload/reboot that I can try?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

    Sadly all brands have troubles, know people that have had far worse reliability with HTC's and Samsungs recently. Personally amongst my family, friends and colleagues not one of us has had a serious issue with any of our 10+ Lumias, luck of the draw. The only one we had a little bit of trouble was my sisters branded 710 but it started to behave after a hard reset. I personally had trouble with an 800 back in October but it wasn't mine and wasn't running release firmware.
    Personally I always have a spare phone, either at home or work in case mine lets me down, fortunately i've not had to touch it whist using the Lumia 800 & 900.
    If the charger thing doesn't work then sadly you'll either have to send it off or claim for it on any insurance policies you may have. There is nothing further that can be done on this forum to help.

  • Thanks Nokia to bring Lumia 800 to me

    I have updated the 1600.2483.8106.11500 firmware to my Lumia 800.  Now the battery charging issue seems improving.  The phone is what I expect that WP is offering.
    I was first shocked by the Nokia Microsoft cooperation agreement February last year that Nokia was given up Symbian and chose Windows Phone as the prime platform.  After I tried this first Nokia Windows Phone, I understand what is the built quality and the OS stablity.
    WP is target at different market segment.  There are numerous bad comment regarding this first Nokia WP, and most of Lumia users are still happy to what they have chosen.  There is one of good post in xda developers namely: what is the point of smoothness when you don't have function?
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452154&page=7
    This is what I settle with this first Nokia Windows Phone after 10 years of Windows Mobile and recently Android Desire HD and iPhone4 - "But the good foundation of the platform, like stable OS an consistent UI, makes always sense for the future, when you add stuff to it." written by one poster "domistry" of this thread.

    I got the same issue but I remove the Network Setup once I reset my phone (Which was annoying). It solved the issue for me, actually.

  • New update available for Lumia 800 (1600.2487.8107...

    Hi all!
    Good news! We have brought forward the software update schedule for our Nokia Lumia 800, and have begun rolling out the latest update 1600.2487.8107.12070 to India and Singapore. This update will gradually be available for more markets in the coming weeks and we will keep you informed via our support pages as well as via a similar announcement here on Nokia Discussions Forum, once we add additonal markets to the roll out.
    As this is not a mandatory software update, not every country or network carrier will make it available to their customers. However, all features and enhancements will be included in subsequent software updates. If you have questions if 1600.2487.8107.12070 will be available for you, please check with your local network carrier.
    The new Lumia 800 update brings the following enhancements:
    Enhanced battery standby and talk-time performance
    Fix for non-responsive screen when ending a call
    Improved  bass in audio performance
    Soft keys illumination available for all screen brightness levels
    Fix for rebooting in certain network conditions
    As soon as the update is available for you, your phone will display a notification on your Homescreen or you can check for available updates manually by going to Settings > phone update. To update your phone, please follow those 4 steps:
    1.   Install the Zune software (Windows) or Windows Phone 7 Connector (Mac OS) on your computer. You'll need this software to download the phone update.
    2.   Connect your phone to your computer, using the USB cable that came with your phone.
    3.   If the Zune software or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac doesn't start automatically when you connect your phone, start it manually.
    4.   In the Zune software, click Update Now (in Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac, click Install Updates). Make sure you keep your phone connected to your computer until you see a notification that the update is complete.
    Best regards,
    Yvonne from Nokia Care

    ’We will add more countries and variants to the rollout based on market requests.’’
    There is no request, there is an absolute necessity! Patience is usually my second nature, but the whole non communication policy since the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 is scandalous. When Nokia finally listening to their customers and responds quickly to problems and childhood illnesses. Like many others with me I'll be forced to daily to plug my device to the Zune software in the hope that Nokia (Netherlands) will be so kind to update my phone.
    Nokia, listen, communicate (especially in the media and forums) and trade as a company that lives up to your image.
