M audio confusion

Hi. I am using a m audio 49e MIDI controller with Logic Express 9. It has been working fine up until this point, but when I try to record a new track or play another "instrument" along with what I have, the commands from my controller are either very delayed or do not work at all. Help?

I've just bought the 24" iMac Intel Core Duo and am having the same problem with it not recognising my M-Audio 410 Firewiere interface.
Did using the external power supply help the problem. During set up I also had my iPod connected and now it seems like it's fried........ no sign of life and it's worked fine for two years until I plugged in my new computer.

When I merge a stereo clip with a mono audio clip, the result is a clip with 5 mono channels... is this a bug?
Unfortunately, CC doesn't seem to allow autmotic breakup of stereo clips into mono any more, only into "stereo mapped to mono" (a 2 channel mono clip with another audio clips correctly merges into a 3 channel mono clip).

A just in case mention, according to Adobe documentation, Premiere Elements has a synchronize linked clip feature. But, I have not found it to work
as advertised for several versions now.

OSX crashing while watching video/listening to some audio - confused!

Hi all,
I'm on 10.5.7, on a 2nd gen macbook. I'm getting weird crashes when I'm watching video, such as youtube, but also I get massive glitching with the netflix video player using the silverlight plugin. I've disabled plugins, fixed permissions, reset the PMU, and worked to clean up the machine in any way possible. The audio glitches out, the video holds up and clicks/pops, and then it'll randomly grey-screen and die. This happens in firefox 3.11, but also in Safari 4. I've also seen this happen when listening to Pandora radio. I can't figure out if it's a flash thing, or an audio card thing. I'm using the built-in audio, no special settings or anything. Been to the genius bar like, ten times, apparently all I can do is an erase and reinstall. Seems pretty stupid. I've found that the only way I don't see this issue is if I browse with Opera, which is just a horrible browser, IMHO; unfortunately, this machine crashes for no stupid reason thanks to this issue. If anyone else is having it, I'd love to know. Thanks.

Website video audio playing by itself

This is the second time this has happened since upgrading to Mountain Lion last week, while I am doing my thing, suddenly I hear audio playing in the background. I closed safari and it was still playing. So, I closed all applications and it was still playing, the audio is coming from a video on www.cricinfo.com. I haven't been able to figure out which application the audio is being played from and what is making it randomly start playing the audio, Confused!!!
Anyone know anything about this???

I was having massive stability problems myself until I followed some advice I received from the support team.
Even pop up processes like Norton's, McAfee's and Screen savers would kill my conformed audio & confuse things.
Now I too only have a 32 bit OS (Vista Premium Home) but have 3GB RAM - the most you can utilise in 32 bit OS - & two internal HD.
The advice was to save aside my raw media, then completely delete PRE 8 using Windows Add & Delete Programs.
Next too I deleted all the directories it was using & also cleaned up various system deitrous using CS3CLEAN SCRIPT (Google for it)
selecting Level 4 to clean the registry too - downloaded from the Adobe resource of course rather than anyone else.
I then did a DFRAG on both C: & D: drives and a general file cleanup making sure that there was 25GB of swap space on C drive.
This took a day and a bit.
I then reinstalled everything and, this time, when I started a New Project I first of all set up scratch disks for every sort of cache it needs on my D: drive.
It seems that this means its temporary files can be read and written efficiently without compteing with the processes competing for swap space.
I still have problems with sustaining conformed audio but I will make a separate post about that in a minute.
The good news is that the continual crashes and snail-paced user interface responsiveness is cured for now!
Hope others out there can benefit from this post. Perhaps a future edition of PRE could notice at installation that you have an internal D drive & use it.

Finder gets confused about Audio CD's

A few weeks ago I burned an iTunes playlist containing a single track to an audio CD. When the CD was burned and mounted, Finder showed the title of the volume as the title of the playlist ("untitled playlist"), and showed the contents of the CD to be a single AIFF file with the same title as the iTunes song ("I Can See Clearly Now.aiff"). So far so good.
Now whenever I insert ANY Audio CD containing only one track, it shows up on the desktop as the CD I burned a few weeks ago. That is to say, any single-track Audio CD shows up on the Desktop as "untitled playlist," and the contents of that CD is always "I Can See Clearly Now.aiff." Of course the actual contents of that file are what they should be, not "I Can See Clearly Now." Not so helpful.
Is there some database file out there that I can trash and make Finder stop thinking that every one-track Audio CD I insert is "untitled playlist"? Or is this an iTunes issue, perhaps?
I'm using a Dual 2 GHz G5 tower with the latest version of 10.4.9. I should also mention that the optical drive involved in all this is a Plextor IDE DVD+-R/CD-RW housed in an external Firewire enclosure. Thanks for any help!

Something else I should mention: what I've described above occurs for ANY Audio CD, including ones where the duration of the audio track is nowhere near the duration of the track on "untitled playlist."
Also, the CORRECT info always shows up for each CD in iTunes. It's only the Finder that's getting confused. (And other apps like Disk Utility that I imagine are getting this kind of info from the Finder.)

Yes, you can do this. Drag the music track to the background and start adding your pictures. A great way to do this is to use beat markers so your photos will change on the beat.
A really fast way to do this is to line up your photos in an iPhoto album in the order you want them. You can drag the whole album into iMovie at once.

Confusion about digital audio handling in Apple eco-sphere

Confusion among Apple users. We need some answers about bit rate and word lengths in the Apple eco-sphere. This is the source material we have today:
CD 16/44.1 -> iTunes rip at 16/44.1
CD 16/44.1 -> iTunes rip at 16/48
HD audio 24/96 -> iTunes 24/96 downloads (maybe in FLAC or WAV converted to AIFF or ALAC?)
On the Mac lots of things happen with audio:
1 Conversion programs are available for CD ripping and file format changes. I have a small contribution to this part of the confusion, I purchase FLAC files and convert to AIFF using the program XLD, which seems to me to be ideal. Others may have different solution. iTunes also has a good reputation for direct CD ripping.
2 The setting of AudioMIDI (number of bits and rate) can be changed for the output up to 24/96, what effect does this have? I know for certain you have to restart iTunes if you change the settings as it reads them only once at startup.
3 Playing a file with a different bits/rate may or may not up-/down-sample. For example with AudioMIDI set to 24/96, what comes out when you play a 16/44.1 file? And vice versa, play a 24/96 with AudioMIDI set to 16/44.1, what comes out? Is it the setting of AudioMIDI that defines the output itself or the setting iTunes reads from AudioMIDI when it starts up?
For example if I start iTunes with AudioMIDI set at 16/44.1, then change it to 24/96, does iTunes continue to output 16/44.1 or does the system up-sample to 24/96? And vice versa.
4 Now the confusion gets worse if you stream the files to an Airport Express or New Apple TV. What conversions does iTunes make, does AudioMIDI have any effect, what is the bits/rate spec for the stream,is this different for Ethernet wired or WiFi connections, what conversion do the AE or ATV do, if any, and what does it output for each of the stored file types.
We need a complete and clear description of all of these issues so we can resolve the many, many discussions that are on the forum.

I have had no issues with the D3 and Apple TV working after sleep. Indeed, there is no data connection between the two except that the Apple TV sends a laser based digitial audio signal to the D3 for DA conversion. The D3 does not communicate with the Apple TV and the Apple TV does not signal to the D3 that it is asleep or awake. The D3 just sits there and waits for the light to come in for conversion to analog.
I suspect your problem is in the Apple TV. Perhaps you have a bad unit and need to get a replacement under warranty (ASAP if still under the 90 day but hopefully you bought the Apple care 1-3 year warranty with it?) Regardless, even out of warranty, if you make an appointment with an Apple store via the web, show up, very nicely tell the Genius Bar person that the toslink feature seems to never have been working (does not matter that it goes to a D3 or a $6000 DAC so don't mention it!), they will check your warranty, see that it is bad, and 9 times out of ten, hand you a brand new Apple TV unit! They take the old one back, refurb it, and resell it. No one looses. Be nice the whole time! Even if they say you are out of luck, just be nice. Nice really works at the Apple store!
The other issue that might cause this is syncing. If the D3 or Apple TV are hooked up to a power strip that shuts off to save power (or that you shut off manually), this might unsync the two. So leave both on power lines that always remain on. That's how I have mine set up.

Audio/Video A Bit Confused :S

I reinstalled itunes onto my computer and now it wont open because it has detected an audio configuration problem. It then says audio/video playback may not operate properly so i click ok and then nothing happens. When i try to change it on sound and audio devices most of the buttons are greyed out. So now i dont know what to do.

ITunes 6.0.5 confused when writing audio CD

Hi folks,
A couple of days ago i tried writing an audio CD for the first time on my Mac mini using i-tunes 6.0.5. The disc was to be 7 ".aiff" music files ranging in size between 10 and 380MB, converted from 16-bit stereo 44.1kHz ".wav" files recorded on my G3 i-pod. Total data size about 720MB (about 1 hour of music).
i-tunes accepted the files, which i selected for burning but upon inserting a blank 800MB CD was told "not enough room, will write to multiple discs".
i-tunes did just this, writing the six shortest onto one disc (about 30 minutes of music), closing and spitting out the disc, accepting a new disc, writing the first 10 minutes of the long (42.5 minute) audio file to it. Then closing the disc, accepting another and repeating the second write session a further twice.
My question is: What am i doing wrong ? or Is this a fault with i-tunes ?
Can "Toast" talk to the CD writer in a Mac mini ? If so, is it a better bet ?

i am aware of the "conical" lead-in and out tracks and their necessity for replay (they also let the player find the start of the audio data). The audio tracks i tried to write are as follows, in the form Title, Duration:

To me, that adds up to less than 1hr, 15mins, 30secs. It's tight, but by your figures the music should still fit on a single audio CD.
Which still leaves the question - Why did Apple's i-tunes 6 span the tunes, incomplete, over four audio discs.
The only reason for suggesting Toast is i've used it successfuly for years on my old Mac (G3'd PowerMac 7500, OS 9.1). Reason for not using it to write this disc is SCSI CD re-writer failed about a month ago (doesn't see blank CD's as having any more capacity than about 98MB, ie. 6" disc).

So Confused with no audio!!!

OK. All I want to do is make a simple video with an intro splash screen, add a vignette, and change the lighting a bit--pretty simple, eh? But I cant get the audio! I noticed a green bar start to fill beneath the video but it stops after 45s then it plays great but just loops those few seconds. Now when I press the decimal point key it plays the whole thing except the video as described in the links above. I noticed it stops if I click anywhere on the screen. I was hoping it would continue playing until I stop it. If I want to add sound to a spash screen , say curtains opening, how can adjust the sound timing to the spalsh screen for example? Can someone help please?

Apple TV 2, iTunes HD shows confusing surround audio channels?

I have recently noticed a problem with iTunes purchased TV shows, in that the front left/right audio tracks are coming out of the surround speakers (and the front sides are quiet, but the center plays back normally). This has happened with Justified and Clone Wars.
It's rare and if I restart the Apple TV the problem goes away and everything plays back normally. I've also observed that if I restart the AV receiver, that fixes the problem (Apple TV detects that the other end of the HDMI cable is off-line and it pauses the show).
Has anyone else seen this problem? I would be happy to blame the receiver, I guess , but my Blu-ray player never exhibits this behavior - only the Apple TV 2 and it seems to occur only with iTunes purchased, HD TV shows.

Update: turned out to be a problem with the AVR, which is now at a service center being repaired.

Confused, need help regarding a MPG audio file

I have some video and the sound is not that good however I used my Marantz recorder using a CF card. The quality if very good on the card. The file is 1003.MPG around 250 MB. I have imported my video into Imovie and I thought I could just drag or import this MPG file into the audio and edit. It starts off like it will import and then nothing. I even imported the 1003.MPG file into Itunes hoping I could bring it in through Itunes. No luck. I am not sure what an MPG files but it doesn't appear to be an audio file that I need to import into I movie. When I double click on the file it opens in QT and I can play it there. What am I missing and what do I need to do in order to get it into Imovie so I can match up with video.

Hi SDillini. I looked at your link and saw all the options I should have had. For some reason I have not been able to figure out as of yet it only gave me the two which I listed above. If I would have had all the options which were listed I would have been on easy street. I finally got it converted over, thanks to my son but now I have even a bigger problem. Worked on some video for about 7 hours and Imovie started just shutting down every so often. I would continue to save every 5 minutes. Now the last time it quit I tried to open and the clips showed up but nothing in the timeline. It looks like it wants to start however I get the spinning ball and after about 3 or 4 minutes it just shuts down. I have tried to put all the folders linked with that movie into a new Imovie project and I also tried to to import everything in to FCP. All I get is the clips I was not going to use with nothing I have edited going into the timeline or clip file. This has been a very difficult project and due tomorrow. If I can't figure this out fast I will start all over today and make an all nighter out of it. I may try a new post to possibly get some help on new problem.

Audio output confused on iPhone 6

I Have an iPhone 6. Here is an example of the problem I've been having with "unintelligent" multitasking. Music is open and playing. I open Facebook. I start playing a video in Facebook. The song playing on iTunes does not stop playing. I go to Music and click to have the song stop playing. Back to Facebook. Then switch to settings. As soon as settings opens, the video in Facebook stops playing. Click the earphone control to start playing the video again, but it starts the music, not the video. Maybe the earphone control is not supposed to control the video, but in previous iPhones, music or videos would continue unless I started a new song or video. switching from app to app dos not stop the music from playing like it does now. Also, music did not play over other audio like it does now.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?
