Mac App Store doesn't show OS X updates

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion in July, the Mac App Store has stopped showing updates for OS X. It shows normal app updates like Evernote but it didn't notify me for the 10.8.1, the 10.8.2 and the recent Supplemental Update. This happens even after days that the updates are released. I discovered that there were updates available from news sites.
I contacted Apple Support but I was quite rudely shut up. The guy at the phone told me that "this is normal" and that Apple "is not obliged" to issue a notification for all the system updates. I told him that all my Mac-owners friends could download the updates from the App Store but he told me that "they were lying" to me. I was so aghast at his response that I didn't started laughing in his face as he probably deserved. I will find a way to get back to him via an official complaint to his superiors, that's for sure.
Can anyone help me with the Mac App Store issue, anyway? Currently I'm forced to download the updates manually from Apple's site.
Thanks in advance for the support!

It's possible you have a problem with your system. I've had this same issue with Lion. Eventually, I bit the bullet and did a scratch reinstallation which seemed to fix things. But there may have been less invasive solutions I just did not think of or find. So you might start with the following:
Boot into Safe Mode then restart normally.
Download a utility such as Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner and use to clear out user, system, and font caches. Restart is immediately required.
Reinstall OS X.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • App Store doesn't show size of updates?

Hi all.  I am new to Mountain Lion today, and just discovered that Software Update now runs through the App Store application.  No problems there, but I cannot see how to check the size of an update except for individually following the many "More" links throughout each update description.  I gather unlimited Internet may be the norm in the USA, but over here in Australia we are often quite limited.  I need to download large updates at off peak times or I will hit my quota and be shaped to very slow speeds for the rest of the month.
Is there any easy way to check the size of updates in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks.
    Ivan

Thanks sig, I've voted that as a helpful answer.  I couldn't say it completely solved my problem, as in my opinion it is definitely not easy or convenient to search through that list of every update under the sun.
However, at least the list you have referenced does contain sizes in the summary. Some of the other answers (in related threads) suggest things like clicking on the "more" page, and I've been dismayed to find that Apple has stopped posting sizes on many of those pages.
From my perspective, Apple has taken away a very important part of the software update process so I have sent in some feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html.  Of course I would rather have an unlimited plan from my ISP and not have to worry about this stuff but that's not the reality here in Australia.

  • App store doesn't show Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 as purchased and will resell it to me has anyone else noticed this?

The Apple app store doesn't show Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 as purchased and will resell it to me. I bought this computer (early 2011 macbook pro 17 in) new in oct 2011 it came with Lion installed has anyone else noticed this?

Barney,I did as you suggested and emailed app store support qutioning why the app store didn't recognize my OS LION software as purchased even though all of the iLife apps that came bundled with it are recognized as PURCHASED and here was the email response from robert@ the app store....< I understand that you are trying to re-install the OS X Lion as you had a Hard Drive crash but it is not showing as purchased from your Mac App Store purchase pane.
As the Mac OS X Lion was pre-installed to your computer , it will not be recognized as purchased in the Mac App Store, and because of that it is not available fro re-download for free. Also, computers that come preinstalled with Lion do not ship with the disk.
Dana, not worry as OS X Lion has a self recovery feature.

The App Store doesn't show me about featured and top charts

Thanks Demo.  i had turned on restrictions but I had totally forgotten about it.  I think I had turned it on more just to see what it was, and I had never seen any app be restricted from downloading big before.  I would have never figured this out as there is absolutely no indication in the App Store as to why the button is missing.  Thanks!!

When I start my mac and run my session, the MAS don't show me updates in the dock icon. • Mac App Store Doesn't Recognize Apps

I have a Macbook Pro which is almost three years old.  Applications like iLife and iWorks were installed on the computer long before there was the Mac Ap Store.  These apps, and others on my computer, do not show up as Instaled in the App Store so I can't update them unless I use the old Software Update or the vendor's site.  I don't want to purchase the apps again but is there any way to "register" these apps so the app store knows they are on my computer?
    Thanks,
    David

I have iLife 11 that I purchased on disk that is installed, but the App store doesn't recognize any of the iLife apps as being installed.
Everytime I run GarageBand it states there is a new version, but then Software Update says everything is up to date once it is run.
I have GarageBand 6.0 (427.17) at the moment, and the newest right now is 6.0.5
I haven't been able to update it.
    Any thoughts on this issue?

  • Mac App Store doesn't recognise my Apple ID as I had a hard drive replaced. Any ideas?

I've just tried to access Mac App Store but it doesn't recognise my Apple ID. It's fine when I signed in to this forum and on my purchases of iTunes on my Mac but not App Store. Also, can't download iCloud, it's showing MobileMe.

    Yes - that's correct.
I did attempt Apple’s Internet Recovery system, but that failed dramatically, as I couldn't get an Internet connection or get to the Apple logo when pressing Command and R keys at the startup.
This evening I visited the Apple Store and installed the OS via Apple's Network using a RJ45 cable.
    Thanks all for your responses.

  • Mac App Store will not show 3.2.2 as an available update

I upgraded to Lion last week, but Aperture 3.2.2 is not showing up as an available update.  Will I be stuck with 3.1.3 until Apple releases the next update?  I'm not sure what to do.
Thinking out loud...could the Mac App Store may be confused about what version of Aperture I'm using?  I downloaded Lion on the first day that it was available, but I didn't install it because I had some Rosetta applications.  In the interim from when I downloaded Lion and installed it, I think Aperture was updated to 3.1.3. Is there a way to reset the Mac App Store so that it will rescan my apps for available updates?

Is Aperture installed in the system Application folder as Aperture (noting else no Aperture3.1.3 or anything like that)
Did you buy 3 from the App Store? Are you logging in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy Aperture?
In the App Store in the Purchases tab what is listed?
If all the above is OK then you could just remove Aperture from the Application folder (drag it to the Desktop) and then go to the App Store. It should allow you to download the app again and will give you the latest version.

  • Mac App Store doesn't load the content

I made fresh installation of OS X 10.9.1 Server but thru VNC when open App Store it is gray (without content) and also can't check for updates.I tryed to flushcache of DNSs, delete iTunes cache, Safari cache, but still doesn't work.

This likely isn't related to DNS services, and your server should likely not be running DNS services locally other than the resolver; this assuming your server is configured on a public static IP address.
Cache cleaning and tools that claim do that could well corrupt the environment or the operating system.
Other options might possibly include a network firewall or proxy issue.
Check the logs with Console.app (Applications > Utilities), and see if there are any errors when you launch and test with the Mac App Store.
If you've not already tried it, reboot, and try the App Store again.
Then reboot into Safe mode, shutdown, reboot normally, and try again.
You may end up reinstalling OS X as a test, too.  This on the off chance that the add-ons corrupted the environment, or there's some low level disk error or corruption somewhere.

  • Mac App Store doesn't work.

Some of the apps that came with the computer, including Mac App Store and Calendar, has problems while launching and they quit themselves very soon after.
I cannot update software because as I said, the Mac App Store does not work.
Here is a part of the error report it gives when I open Calendar.:

It gives the same error on the app store as well.

  • HT5248 The App Store doesn't show update 9.2 for Pages - What could I do?

When I open pages, I get a notification that I can update to pages 9.2, but when pages opens the App Store, the store doesn't come with any update.
I think it is because I have installed pages via an installation disk.
How can I make pages update to 9.2?
Thank you for answering my question!

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can also download the standalone updater from this page.

  • Mac app store isn't showing on dashboard - where has it gone?

My mac book (OS 2x) shows that its software is uptodate but there is no "Mac App Store" on my dash or in the Apps folder. I don't know where it has gone but I'd like to upgrade the OS to Lion & don't seem to be able to do this without going throuh the Mac App Store... any ideas?

If you're running Mac OS X 10.6, run the 10.6.8 combo updater.
If you're running Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5, purchase 10.6 on DVD.
OS 2.x is for iPads and similar devices, not Macs.
