Mac App Store needs real System Requirements for Games

After reading about the 2011 Apple Design Awards I decided to download Anomaly: Warzone Earth from the Mac App Store. The system requirements listed are "Mac OS X 10.6 or later".
My 2006 MacBook Pro runs 10.6.7 fine, so I thought I would be able to play, but my 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB ram, and ATI X1600 graphics card are apparently nowhere near fast enough to actually play the game. Sure, the app launches, but the menu interface is jerky and the actual gameplay is completely unplayable. Instead of even laggy lo-res graphics, the screen is just a blank grey field with no visuals.
If the App Store told me more specifically that a faster graphics card, more video memory, or a faster processor were required to play, I would have not bought the game (or at least waited until I upgraded my computer).
I was tempted to try the game on my Windows 7 partition via Bootcamp (since Windows seems to have better graphics drivers and can often run the same games faster) but I don't feel like shelling out more money for another version that likely won't run.
TL;DR
I wish the Mac App Store listed real system requirements, instead of just assuming that nobody would keep using the same computer for five years.

  • I deleted an app downloaded from the Mac App Store, Mac App Store is showing an update for deleted app.

I downloaded Blackmagic Speed Disk from the Mac App store last year.  Its not a pirated copy or anything.  I deleted the app cause I never used it.  After I deleted the app the Mac App Store shows an available update for the deleted app.  When I click update, it just re-downloads the app.   Cant figure out how to completly get rid of it.  I uninstalled the app and then used easy file finder to delete the app's files completely.  How do I get rid of the annoying Update??? Thanks

Hide the app from your Purchases list. Sign into your account (Store menu). Go to Purchases pane, right click on the app in question, Hide the app.

So i was on the mac app store going to get a free game and it said i had to review my account do i have to pay to do that?

No. They just want you to review your payment information.
You can select None for payment method if it's available  >  Mac App Store: Changing your account information
Why can’t I select None when I edit my payment information?

    Help thanks

    Hi ChuckN,
I have installed the update at home on an older 27" iMac, a new retina macbook pro 15", an older macbook air  and a recent 21" iMac and on none of them does the redeem by camera option show up.
I would say to our north American friends this is something that has been working for you for a while and has only been announced as available in AU with the latest update for our region this week. Sadly updates don't always work straight up.
I am hopeful there is something I have not turned on but think I may need to wait for another update.
    good luck Chuck!

  • Mac App Store says I have updates for another account and an app, both of which I don't have?

Ive only had my Macbook Pro for about a month now and just a few weeks in the Mac App Store started telling me that I had an update available for Angry Birds (an app which I never bought or installed) and that I need to log into another specific account to update it (an apple id/email which I've never seen before)?
So, I have no idea how this random email was associated to my Mac or why angry birds is prompting...
I tried the Spotlight Re-indexing I read about but its still there.
    Thoughts?

  • GarageBand already downloaded, Mac App Store asking me to pay for it again!

I have a 2008 model of the iMac. It started out on Snow Leopard and came with an iLife '09 disc which had GarageBand. It is now running OS X Yosemite and I have updated all of my iLife apps except for GarageBand. I wanted to update it from the Mac App Store, but the App Store asked me to pay for GarageBand again! Is this supposed to happen? Is there any way around this?

I wanted to update it from the Mac App Store, but the App Store asked me to pay for GarageBand again! Is this supposed to happen? Is there any way around this?
No, there is no way around that, sorry.
To upgrade from your  iLIfe '09 version of GarageBand to GarageBand 10.0 is a major upgrade - you can recognize a paid upgrade by the version number. If the first digits are different, it is a paid upgrade; only if only the digits behind the first decimal point change, it is a free update.
If you  upgrade, don't uninstall your current version. You may want to use your GarageBand '09 loops and instruments with the new version. It has a very different set of instrument and loops.

  • Mac App Store Needs a Wish List or "Buy Later"

Ever benn browsing apps and know you want the app but not ready to buy it, then days later go back to find it only to realize you cant' remember?  I can't tell you how many times I wish I could save the app to purchase later.  The app store needs a second option to "buy later"

You can provide feedback to Apple here.

  • How can I get my app store to open to shop for games ?

I did buy some games from app store, suddenly I am having problems opening app store, it tells me sorry you cannot get iTunes. Hmmmm."...

DL and install the 10.6.8 v 1.1 COMBO update, repair permissions, restart, and try the store again. If still no go, try http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/

  • Mac app store needs my apple id?

I have recently switched computers and have given my old macbook to a family member. I deleted my home folder and account and they made their own. However I left all of my apps on the mac. and now when they try to update them, they need my apple id? How do I fix this so that they can use their own instead of mine?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them

  • What are the REAL system requirements for High Definition Editing?

According to Apple, you can edit HD in iMovie with: a G4 1GHz or faster processor, 512MB RAM or higher, and OSX 10.3.6 or higher.
    I am running a G4 iMac 1.25GHz with 512MB DDR SDRAM and Tiger 10.4.3
My machine can barely import HD from my new Sony HDV1080i camcorder. It imports at anywhere from 1/8th speed to 1/2 speed.
But more importantly, the playback in iMovie of my HD clips is not smooth -- the playback looks jagged, as if the computer cannot quite keep up at full speed.
Would upgrading from 512MB RAM to 1G RAM likely solve my problems with the slow import and the jagged playback?

Would upgrading from 512MB RAM to 1G RAM likely solve my problems with the slow import and the jagged playback?
No. A faster Mac with a faster video card will help.
The playback in iMovie is never as good as it will be on TV, even on DV. It must be even more difference for HDV.

  • Update in Mac App Store, just not for my account

My Mac App Store tells me that I've got at update for one of my programs, but when I open Mac App Store it's a update for Angry Birds, a game I don't have on my mac. When I press update a pop-up appears and say I need to login with [email protected] to update the program/game. Problem is that [email protected] looks like a russian account and i'm not from Russia. My account is set up with a gmail account and doesn't look anything like the russian account.
    Am I being hacked?
    Can anyone please help me?

Since my last comment I have come up with a way to hunt down the pirated app.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
    Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.

  • Updates for unrelated and unauthorized apple ID on mac app store

    Hi,
I am having a queer issue with the mac app store.
When I go to the updates tab in the mac app store I see an update for twitter app v 2.1.1.
Now the twitter app on my apple ID has already been updated to 2.1.1 (I have checked in the get info on the twitter app).
As soon as I click on update I get the dialog box of username and password, only in the username tab I see a different apple ID.
It as a gmail ID which does not belong to me and neither has such an apple ID been authorized on my mac.
I tried contacting apple email support for the mac app store twice, writing down my problem in detail. However I didn't get an acknowldegement mail both times (I checked junk mail).
Is Anyone else having a similar issue? Is this an indication of some sort of hacking?
I am running the Mac OS Snow Leapord 10.6.8
Now I'm just hoping maybe updating to Lion might solve this issue.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in replying, i have be away on vacation.
To my knowledge I have not downloaded any trial apps form other than from the app store. its a mystery. I just want to get rid of this twitter app so that i can download the safe version.
