Mac Mail totally messed up - HELP!

I have seven email accounts I organize through mail. NONE of them are allowing me to send right now. One account just re-downloaded 800 emails for no reason. The connection doctor says everything is OK. But NO emails are sending. If anyone knows why, PLEASE help me.
Also, please let me know third party applications that are reliable. This is the third time this has happened since switching to Snow Leopard.

I'd guess that by now, with 3 failures you might look at getting an external hard drive and setting up Time Machine. With so little data about your account types servers and other settings I don't know where to start. You didn't say if they are POP or IMAP or both, or mention if you are sending through each accounts SMTP server or the one provided by your ISP, or much of anything else. If you had a TM backup, you could just reload the files or even the entire system from before the failure.
Anyway, Thunderbird 3.1 has been released by Mozilla:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
It's kinda nice, and has hundreds of Add-ons, and I've seem the tabbed emails on the Windows version. It works well.
"For Mac users, Thunderbird 3 is now integrated with Spotlight, can import from Mail.app, read your OS X address book, and use Growl for new mail alerts."
I've got quite a few PC clients using Thunderbird because it was so much better than MS Outlook Express. I haven't needed to try it on the Mac, but the Mozilla support is pretty good. I do use their FireFox browser because of the Add-ons I use every day.

  • I lost all email 6months and older in mac mail. Need Serious Help!

I lost all email 6 months and older in mac mail. In my in-box as a well as all other folders I created. I expected that the mac email software would keep all email as it did for me in when I used to use Outlook. As well I thought I was covered with the Time Machine I have installed. Well.....The Time Machine that I was aggressively encouraged to buy apparently doesn't back up email. If it does, I must need some secret decoder ring to unlock where it is. I need serious help. I lost months of professional and personal data. I need to fix this immediately and find some way to get my email back. Please help.

In March when I upgraded to Lion and iCloud I also experienced a similar problem (cluster of problems) which was solved by a password reset (conforming to new requirements) for my Apple ID. I'm glad to see that many nice people contributed and your primary problem is fixed.  My comment is on your Quicken problem.
Your data inside Quicken 2004 is on borrowed time.  In the process of researching personal budgeting apps I found many reports on the web that indicate Intuit as a company is scaling down Quicken (desktop) development and its future attention to the Mac platform will be minimal.
Did you know that Intuit is behind Mint.com?  You may be hesitant to put your financial data "in the cloud" and I may be being sheepish, but.. bbaaaa, bbaaaaa, the cloud is where it's going.  I know first-hand want a pain in the arse it is to customize an app to your liking.  I spent several hours on Mint.com setting up categories and tagging transactions.  It's tedious. I didn't look because I wasn't a Quicken user, but perhaps Intuit was nice enough to provide a data conversion path for Mint.com.  It is worth a look.
My second suggestion is to scour the web for a hack solution.  You can't be the only person who is facing this problem.  Quicken was very popular.  I just bet someone has posted directions or some code for exporting the Quicken 2004 data and manipulating it for something else.
    Good Luck.

  • Mac Mail Signature Image Resolution-HELP!

I have a shiny new retina MBP...I created a signature for Mac Mail that looks crisp...until I created my first email.  The image in the signature is now grainy!  I read that Mac Mail doesn't play well with 300 dpi images.  So, I have reduced it to 100 dpi and then 72...I have also used jpg, png, and tif files.  All result in this grainy look.
Has anyone found a solution to get an image be retina compatible in the signature?
    Thanks!

    Definitely is your problem.
The image will not show up on anyone else's computer, but your own if it is fetched locally.
You should be able to paste the the image address in the browser and the image should render independent of Mail.
That is the nature of html mail,  it reaches out to fetch the images in the mark-up.
addendum:  if you do not have active server space available to host your image,  there are many alternatives. Dropbox public file is one example. The public link can be copied and pasted into the html .mailsignature

  • So...apparently my Mac system totally crashed..Help

So there was a power outage this morning, and my MAC OS totally crashed and my computer is basically dead now. At restart it does a flashing file thing which is indicating it can't find the system (I read the directions/manual).
I tried restarting it and pressing the option key down..etc. and holding down the power button. It made a loud beep sound and tried to restart but it just freezes with an arrow/pointer on the screen and does nothing else.
I am getting my Mac fixed on Wed. to replace the optical drive as is, so I guess they'll have to fix the system as well.
I can not find my Mac discs and it would not work anyway because the optical drive is dead.
Any suggestions of what I can do? I hope I don't lose any data over this.
    thanks.

    1. You may be able to try to boot in target disk mode with another Mac and get the files you need. If the hard drive is damaged it won't happen.
    2. Wait till Wed. and let's see if whomever can boot your Mac up and check the condition of the hard drive.
    3. Get a replacement set of OS disks. Don't lose these. You'll need them to repair your hard drive if necessary.

  • Verizon email via Mac Mail totally locked out/unresponsive since abt Sept 17th

What am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?
I have NO email access to verizon via my Mac Mail client at all. 995 & 465 ports time out after long, futile waiting periods, never to connect.
Webmail via Safari is ok, tho very sluggish when trying to sign in.
But I must access Verizon email via my Mac Mail client. Webmail is not reliable for me.
I am often in germany, where I use Telekom (t-online) for my internet connection, & have no problem with my t-online email which has the same exact pop/smtp settings as the Verizon email accts.
& have had no problem with verizon email whatsoever for the last 8 years.... until Sept 18th.
Verizon's Support chat y gave me a runaround & a brush-off with false advice & absurd info. (I'd saved the transcript & confirmed my suspicions by showing it to other colleagues who are computer saavy professionals). Altho the Verizon support chat admitted forum reports that overseas accts were suddenly locked out due to some security issue, they did not offer that info without my first suggesting it & then they claimed that my problem must be with Apple's Servers!
(my verizon email does not go thru any apple server, excuse me?!?)
I can not call any verizon 800 numbers from outside the USA & no alternative non-toll-free numbers are offered on any Verizon site that I can find.
No email address is offered for any Verizon support.
I do not use any social network (eg Facebook or Twitter).
So what am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".
Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Lost saved emails in folders in Mac mail 5.1, please help

in Mac mail 5.1 some of the emails saved in folders have disappeared randomly from the present to last 5 years.  i know i didn't erase them by mistake in all my 30 +  folder files.  the dates of the missing files are in random orders and not by years.   all my emails were saved from 2010-present but now only a few remain in order.   I came to Apple store and trainer did not know how to fix.

Mac -- When in Mail, bring down the FILE menu to PRINT. You should get this a pane that looks like this one below.  Make sure you have the SCALE box set to 100%.

  • Mac mail all messed up

I have a G4 laptop and a G5 desktop. Both are divided into two users, my wife and myself. Are separate mail accounts work fine on the G5. However, on the G4 they are all screwed up. Both our mail is coming into one mailbox and the mailbox for the other person there is a lightning icon and no mail will load. I figure I can just delete all mail accounts on the G4 and start over to again setup our two accounts. My question is: Is deleting all mail accounts on the G4 going to wipe out all the incoming and outgoing mail already received on the G5? I don't want to lose any of that material. If so, do I need to save the mail on the G5 and if so, what is the easiest way to do this? (By the way, I have checked the mail settings on the G4 and they are identical with the ones on the G5 so I can't figure out why the mail accounts on the G4 are all messed up.)

If possible, could one or both of you take a
screenshot* and upload it somewhere so we could see
    it?
In the meantime, I would suggest going to the Safari
menu and selecting Empty Cache... If that doesn't
work, then Reset Safari, which is also under the
    Safari menu.
    Other than that, the <A
    href=""http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=
107657">steps in this article may help out.
    * To take a screenshot, press Command-Shift-3 at the
same time. The screenshot will be saved as Picture
(#).png on your Desktop, where # represents some
    number.
Thank you sooo much. Resetting Safari worked for me. I will read the article you recommended too.

  • Major Danger Mac Mail FLAW.. HELP

I've posted a problem before that was serious and only fixed with a rebuild of an index whereby the incorrect email text body was included in a forward.
I now have a recording of what I think is another MAJOR flaw and I want to know if I'm right. I recorded it for proof. Basically. I select an email with the left click of the mouse so it's select. I then right click on an email 2 rows down and right click REPLY. The reply recipient is correct, from the 2nd select, but the body of the text is from the 1st email. It doesn't always do it, but if you click the mail on the first row, and right click and reply to the email on the 2nd row, you should see the FLAW.
HELP.. Anyone else seeing this. I could post the recording but would like to send to APPLE..
    Message was edited by: francisc

I got on a call with Apple last night and they tried to reproduce it on a new user account on my box. We only had 30 emails in the test and could not reproduce. They want me to reset from the Original Snow disks and didn't care that others, including someone in my office had the problem.
    I'm stuck until others try it and report it. SInce it doesn't do it on ALL messages, if there's anyone out there willing to test, I'd be grateful. Here's what seems to replicate most;
    1. Sort inbox by date.
    2. CLick (left) on an email in the list
    3. Right click on ANOTHER email in the list and scroll on them menu that pops up to select REPLY.
If the problem occurs, you will see..
The correct TO address (selected from the right click in 3) and at the top of the message in the body, you will also the correct details of what you are replying to. HOWEVER, the body of the text reply WILL be the text from the email you first clicked in 2.
Whether this is because I have a lot of emails in my inbox, I don't know but it happens on mine and one other colleagues machine and does NOT happen in the 10.5.4 release that we can tell anyway.
    Cheers.

  • Mac Mail Problem!! Help

Not sure how this happened but basicaly when i send an email in the mail app on my macbook pro using my yahoo acc the sent message saves in the sent folder in the mail app but when i am out and about and log into yahoo online the messages i sent are not on the yahoo server?? how do i fix this? I need to be able to access these sent message from my HTC phone. so really need the messages to also show up on the uyahoo server??

    Hello Evan5,
make sure you are using IMAP protocol that include "Sent" folder is one of sync folder.
and also make sure you are using paid version of Yahoomail, because free user may get this problem of syncing from mail client.
and also remember, the mobile phone yahoomail syncing is working perfectly that different from PC mail client.
that are all about I thought.

  • Password issues with Mac Mail-help!

I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
    Good luck,
    Bronson

  • Mac Mail Will No Longer Send

Mac Mail on os 10.4.11. Stopped sending reliably about 30 days ago. Have sat thru 3 one hour phone calls with SWBell/ATT tech support. All settings passwords and ports are correct (and have not changed for years). Mail sending often (but not always) pops up the password window. Have reset and reloaded keychain and basically disabled for now as this does not appear to be the root problem) Asks me for my password but won't take it about 98% of the time. Have also deleted and reset all my accounts in mac mail. Did not help. Workaround that do work are: Going online to my Yahoo mail account and sending myself an email seems to break loose the block and lets me send at least one outgoing email after I download the incoming mail to my mac mail. Sometimes going into preferences and choosing a different account setting, Saving. Going back in and choosing the intended and neccessary account setting, Saving. will let me send one or more emails. Sometimes just waiting a few minutes and trying to send again works. Seems to work more reliably at home where I am using Roadrunner SMTP than at office where using the SWBell/ATT smtp settings. All was working great until about July/Aug. We have several computers at my office, all same OS, all same email smtp protocol...all quit sending at same time. Only thing we did was update our firefox which should have nothing to do with Mac Mail. I know we are using an old OS but our store software needs to run on these older macs so must stay on Tiger....any big ideas out there?

Hi DGMMM, and a warm welcome to the forums!
One thing that can mess up Mail is a malformed eMail on the server, might have a look through Webmail to see if there's one about that time that isn't downloading & trash it.
Are these POP or IMAP accounts?
What SMTP port are you using with AT&T?
    Are you getting this?
Mail: Can't send messages, "Cannot send message using the server smtp.xxxxx.com" alert appears...

  • How to transfer emails from PC/Outlook to Mac/Mail

I just bought MacBookPros and iPads for my small business.  After many many hours, i was ensured that the iCloud/Mac combo was the solution for me.  It has turned out to be extremely difficulat migrating from PC/Outlook.
I will not get in to details now, but after 27 hours, we have finally been able to migrate our files and emails over.  However, my sub-folders in my Outlook Inbox that i have created over the years did not migrate over.  All my emails in my inbox did, but not the subfolders.  How can i transfer those over from my PC/Outlook to my Mac/Mail?

Looking at other posts (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2664208?start=60&tstart=0) this is what I found to be a helpful answer for many:
This is by far the easiest and risk-free way to do this that I found.  I've made a few switches in the past 12 months after changing from Windows, thinking Outlook would be the best option and now regretting it I wanted to change back.  No need to buy add-ons or software, apply for gmail or anything else outside of your Mac.
Drag all your mail folders from Outlook onto your desktop and then you can bulk select them through the Import Mailbox option in the File menu in Mail.
    Thanks JChp53!
    JChp53 wrote:
There is a longish way to do this.
In Outlook, Select the folder you want to move (If there are folders within the folder, you have to select each individual subfolder, as the subfolders won't copy along with the main folder, only the messages in the folder will copy). Click and drag the selected folder (ex: inbox folder) to a new folder on your desktop. I couldn't figure out a way to select all the folders, so i dragged each folder and subfolder from Outlook into the folder on the desktop. Once you're done copying all the Outlook folders, open up Mac Mail. Go to File --> import mailboxes. Then select "Files in mbox format" and click continue. Then select desktop, and the folder you dragged all of your Outlook folders into. Hit "Choose." Mac Mail will import all of these folders, and when it's finished, will tell you that they are under the folder labeled "imports" in Mac Mail, and you just have to move all your subfolders back into their main folders.
Like I said, it takes a little while longer than I would like, but it worked for me and now I have all my old mail from Outlook in Mac Mail.
Hope that helps (and that I explained right)!
