Mac trouble

I finally found out what was up with my slow applet--sort of. (See my earlier post "Slow Applet --help") I was testing the applet on a PC at home, and at school, I was using a Mac. I tried a PC at school, and the applet worked just as well as it did at home. Further testing on the Mac revealed the following error:
-on Netscape 4.7 : Class Arrow not found
-on IE 5: No given error, but I assume it is the same.
I have converted the applet, and I am using the plugin. Everything is in the same directory. (Both IE and Netscape, same version, run this program on the PC).
Actually, on the Mac, the applet loads, the classes load, but the listener does not appear to be listening at all. Does Mac have a problem with anonymous listener classes? Or custom components?
Or could it be that I need to check the version of the mac jre (I thought the plugin checked for this--it did last time i ran a Mac program)?
Or could it be I don't have enough memory available? How can I check that (and increase it)?
Or other??
Help!
JenMc

I have been trying several tests to see what was causing the trouble. Seems like
public class XXX extends Component
is a 1.1 thing after all.
Mac ran a simple applet containing such an object (without listeners), and it didn't complain. I wrote my (original) listener with 1.2-style event handling. That's easy to change. I think I've got a handle on it.
Thank you veerrry much anyway!!!!!!

  • System prefs .mac trouble

    Kind of wierd....
When I open system prefs and click on the .mac area. My name is right but the password is wrong. When I change the password and hit enter it changes to the correct amount of dots hiding the password. However if I click on advanced or something it instantly changes the password back to whatever and has login troubles. I go back to the window with the username and password and its not the correct password (has way to many letters) as expected.
How can I get it to delete the old (although not created by me) password and hold the new password in this area so it will sync properly. Thanks!

    Hello John.
This is a security feature - more dots are shown than text and/or numbers entered for the correct password and doesn't mean your password has been changed.
If this is an existing password, you can't change your .Mac account password from the .Mac System Preferences.
Can you access your .Mac account information via the .Mac website?

  • Switched to Mac - Trouble installing HP Officejet 7410

I'm switching from Windows to Mac after a disaster while upgrading to Vista (another story). Mac mini is up and running fine. I've been very pleased with my HP Officejet 7410 since late 2004. However, installation with the Mac has been a challenge.
Using the original Mac disc provided with the 7410 at purchase, install runs ok - but when connected via USB, the 7410 is never recognized. When connected via wireless, the "fax" version installs (don't know if it works), but the printer version does not install automatically. When I manually add the printer, I get to the point of selecting the driver, but the 7410 is not included and I have to selected another printer with Gutenprint driver. Prints ok, but no scan / copy.
Checking via Mac support (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1370), the 7410 is listed as one of the printers included in the Mac OS X 10.5.2 software pack, using an HP 4.0.1 driver - but it is not listed in the "select" printer options on my machine.
I've downloaded the latest Mac driver pack from HP, and run through that process, but still with the same results.
Any idea where I can get just the driver and where I need to "park it" on my Mac hard drive so that is is recognized as an available driver that I can select?

Greg - Well I tried the "reset" suggestion after running the new, downloaded driver from HP - and same results. When I go to add the new printer, the system does not automatically find the correct driver. I'm offered "Select a driver" and the HP 7410 does not show up in the list - and mainly Gutenprint drivers are listed - no HP drivers.
My HP Photosmart 475 printer installs just fine.
It still seems to be how to get the HP driver in my "available" list.

  • ID CS5.5 Mac - Trouble printing custom size 13x21 transparency

I am trying to print a positive transparency for a screen print. The document is 13x21. I have a 13 wide transparency roll from which I have cut a 21" piece. I'm printing to an EPSON 1400.
I cannot get the file to output to this szie. It cuts off the image within in 8.5x11 boundary every time.
    I have:
    - set a custom size in the print dialog
    - clicked Page Setup in the print dialog and set the custom size there as well, ignoring the warning about it not being the ID print dialog
    - the preview in the dialog will look perfectly oriented to the correct size in the little thumbnail
    - I have tried everything I can think of to try and get the output sizes in sync and correct
    - I switched to PDF to try that, fail again
Is there anyone that can help with some step by step of a process that will work?
Adobe ID CS5.5, EPSON Stylus Photo 1400, Mac Lion 10.7.5
I just can't comprehend how this could be so difficult and unintuitive. Any insight would be freaking wonderul.

Wow! Sudden serendipitous conclusion to this insanely frustrating issue.
I had found information that the EPSON 1400 should be able to print 44" long output by default. I was searching specifically to find folks that had printed large or panoramic imagery and stumbled onto a UK photography site where a person has mentioned he'd written software that would allow this printer to even print beyond 44". That sounded great.
BUT, the last post on the thread a guy mentioned how he was able to print up to 44" to an EPSON 1400 with ease. The solution, he said, was that the WIDTH of the print area in the page setup must be LESS THAN 13". Why? No explanation.
So I reset my custom size to 12.5x21 inches and BAM! First attempt from InDesign printed successfully. I can work with the margin.
Anyway, in case anyone else runs into this issue this works. Here is a link to the 2009 post that mentions this as well as info regarding printing longer than 44".
    This one is solved.

Try formatting it as a HFS+ volume in Disk utility. It should come up in iTunes then, But don't try to sync songs with it. Restore it via iTunes and it should work.

  • Built in iWeb, hosted on .mac, trouble viewing in Safari?

I built my website (markspectorwrites.com) in iWeb and host it on .mac. On four different boxes (two G4s, one intel, I don't know which one my headhunter uses), the site appears to load a blank page. Not until I click in the browser window does the site appear. When I follow links to another page on the site, the same blank pages appear until I click in the browser window.
Admittedly my pages are fairly heavy, but this bug does not appear to effect Firefox browsers or Windows computers using Explorer.
This is a recent development. I built the site about a year ago and haven't updated the content in months. Is there anything I can do on my end to solve the problem? Or is this a bug to be reported to Apple?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Captivate 7 for Mac trouble installing patch

Was having some issues getting Captivate 7 to recognize Microsoft PowerPoint and Word. Took the advice I saw in another Adobe forum question and re-installed Captivate 7. Of course Captivate 7 won't work on my Mac without the 7-0-1 patch, but when I try to install the patch I get a popup message saying that the Administrator has suppressed updates to my computer. Since I am the Administrator, and I didn't suppress any such thing, I suspect this issue is due to my recent installation/upgrade to Creative Cloud for all my other Adobe apps.
Anyone got any work-arounds for this?

    Hi Lydia,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums !
    Please go to <Startup Disk>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat
Then copy and paste AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat  on your desktop .
Open AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat and change the value under suppressed tag to "0".
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
        <Preferences>
        <Suppressed>1</Suppressed>
        </Preferences>
Now save the file and replace it with the existing file in <Startup Disk>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0  .
Now run the update patch again and see if it resolves your issue or not .
    Thanks

  • PSE 6 for Mac - Trouble enlarging images

Using OS 10.6.1 -- When I'm working on an image in the PSE window, sometimes the ability to enlarge or decrease the size of an image using the mouse button stops working.  I have tried changing the mouse but that wasn't the solution.  If I quit PSE and then reload the program, the enlarge/decrease function works fine.  No telling why it stops working.  Any ideas?

Is there any specific workflow where you observed such behavior? Or do you recall what kind of actions were you doing when zoom via mouse stopped functioning?

  • (MAC) Trouble going from expired cloud trial after effects to subscription

I bought the student subscription to creative cloud last night after my demo had expired. I run the after effects program and the "your trial has expired" window pops up. I click next, on the bottom left and it prompts me for my email. I put in the email and hit next but it takes me to a window which prompts me for my serial number which I don't have since I'm using cloud.
It may have something to do with the fact that I think I may have used a different email for my trial, and a seperate one to buy the subscription. I'm guessing that there is a problem distinguishing the accounts maybe on my computer or somewhere in the program itself. I have tried uninstalling many times, restarted my computer mulitple times and have tinkered with the locations and preferences and everything. But can't seem to find a solution!
Sorry for the long post, help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Hi John,
First of all please make sure to click on "Lisence this software" when you have prompt for the same. then provide the email address on which you have purchased the subscription.if you have it already captured to the trial one you can click on "Not my Adobe ID" and change it.
Also check http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-i ssues.html for any network issues if you are using right Adobe ID.

  • Cannot Install Flash Player to Mac OS X 10.9.4

Hi. I have a mac OS X 10.9.4 and using safari 7.0.5. i have downloaded adobe flash player and before the download ever finishes i am told to close my safari. I have checked a million and one times to see if my safari is open and it is not open. I shut my laptop down and retried and nothing seems to work. I trouble shooter and tried to figure out if i was using the correct version for my computer and everything seems to be in order. i need some help. i am new to mac and i can't watch any of the videos i want to see and i wanna know how this can be resolved.

    Hello Maria,
I went through the "terminate Safari" processes as well.  I did all of that, including uninstalling the previous version.  Nothing worked with the download from the main site.  I would get the disc image and click on it.  I would then get the red "Install Adobe Flash Player" and click on that.  I would get the black box that said "initializing."  Nothing would happen with this until it said that the download was bad and that I needed to reinstall.  I went through that process several time, including deleting the downloaded disc image that didn't work and redownloading a new disc image.  No matter what I did, the results were the same...the downloaded disc image was not working.
I then started sniffing around the Adobe website and came across some trouble shooting instructions.  I followed those, including right clicking on the "Install Adobe Flash Player" button to get to the "contents" folder.  The instructions then told me to click on a folder, which was not there in what I had downloaded.  I deleted what I downloaded and tried this process again, with the same results.
I only had success with the link on the bottom of the other Mac trouble-shooting page referenced in my post.  Once I downloaded that package, I noticed the size difference between the two disc images.  The last package worked like it was supposed to, and I finally got the updated Adobe Flash Player downloaded and operational.  I could not get anything from the download from the Adobe Flash Player update website.
I have a mid-2011 MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i5.  I've never had this much trouble updating Flash Player before.  Since the link on the referenced troubleshooting page work like it should, and since all other previous updates worked like they should, I can only conclude that something must be wrong with the main Flash Player website link or package for this update to Flash Player 14.
    Thanks for the reply.
    Take care,
    Rick

  • Can only access one Mac via Back to my Mac

I have Back to My Mac set up on my home Mac and two Macs at my office. I can successfully connect to one of the Macs at the office from home, but not the other.
Both office Macs are running Mountain Lion, have Back to My Mac enabled with the same iCloud account credentials, and are on the same LAN/router/switch. My home Mac is running 10.7.5 and cannot be upgraded to 10.8 (it's a very old Mac Pro 1,1.)
Because both office Macs are on the same LAN, those Macs can see one another in the Shared Sidebar in Finder, and I can Screen Connect that way, but I can't access the second office Mac from home for some reason.
I've tried stopping/starting Back to My Mac on the troublesome Mac numerous times (as well as my home Mac), and followed the instructions elsewhere on Apple's site to delete all the Back to my Mac Keychains and recycle the connection, but it didn't help.
Because it's a corporate network, I don't have direct access to the router settings (both work Macs complain that NAT-PMP and/or UPnP aren't on, but since I can still connect to one work Mac from home, that doesn't appear to be the problem.) Both Macs are connected exactly to the network the same way, though, so I'm confused as to why one Mac works while the other doesn't.
Are there any other settings I can check or confirm on the problematic Mac? Am I incorrect in assuming I should be able to connect to two different Macs remotely using the same iCloud account? I just assumed all the Macs I have would be connectable via Back to My Mac if they used the same credentials.
    Thanks,
    R

    Hello Robbie,
Thank you so much for the details you provided reguarding the Back to My Mac trouble you are experiencing.  You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps already, but I recommend reviewing the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting Back to My Mac" in the following article (you can skip the steps you have already gone through):

  • After updating to Lion 10.7.2 System now hangs on boot

I downloaded and installed Lion 10.7.2 update last night onto my MacBook Pro. The update appeared to download ok after quite some time, but during the install the system appeared to hang transfering files. I left the system installing over night, but when I looked at it this morning the update had not completed and I was not getting any responce from the system at all.
Now when I reboot the system I get the Apple logo with the status simbol pinning, but thats it. I have booted into Verbose mode and it looks as if the boot is hangs on the BlueTooth driver install.
I can get into the Mac OS X Utilities and was thinking of reinstlling the MAC OS, but am unsure about this as I don't know if this will erase all my data.
I am fairly new to Mac trouble shooting so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

Sure, Here is a more detailed list of steps that I performed.
    1) Prior to issue, I had a bootable external drive with MacOS 10.7 on it. It was not connected during upgrade.
    2) After apply 10.7.2 upgrade on my internal drive, unable to boot post upgrade
    3) Plugged external drive into Mac, rebooted Mac, holding down Option key for list of boot drives, selected external drive
    4) From OS running on external drive, launched safari, went to apple support, downloads, macos, and downloaded 10.7.2 combo updater.
    5) After download completed, mounted Combo Update disk image, double click update installer
    6) Agree to license, selected internal drive as target for installation
    7) After combo upgrade install finished, started control panel, selected startup disk, selected internal drive and clicked reboot.
    8) System boot fine from internal drive.

  • Hardware or software malfunction?

    Hi everyone.
within the space of a few days my iMac early 2008 started throwing the spinning pinwheel more and more until I couldn't even do anything after logging in. Finder would just hang at the slightest click.  I got into safe mode ok and disabled the startup items and things were normal for a few hours. Then the erradic behavior came back until it eventually got worse. Many hard shut downs and restarts later and even in safe mode the spinning pinwheel will come at the slightest mouse movement or click after booting. At this point I can start normally, log in, and load Finder. But after that everything hangs and this also in safe mode.
Basically I'm wondering if my OS got corrupt somehow or if my drive is malfunctioning. I'd bring it to my trusted  Mac repair place but they are on vacation until April 1st, so I have some time to troubleshoot it myself and I know a bit about Macs and OSX, as I come from the computer industry.
Here is what I have done so far
    1. ran standard and extendend hardware tests from install DVD.
the standard test passed and the extended test threw an error
    4HDD/11/40000000:SATA (0,0)
reserach on the interweb shows differnet reports which don't seem too alarming.
    2. ran disk utility a few times from the install disk.
first verify was fine. second verfiy threw an error at "checking catalog file"
incorrect block count for file 2014.03.24.asi (it should be 110 instead of 55)
then first aid failed > file system or repiar failed.
in spite of this I could run repair disk and this came back "repaired successfully."
    >> Here I began worrying and just wanted to secure my data. <<
    3. I tried to run time machine in safe mode and that worked for about 10 GB and then TM stalled
    4. i read that i could make a disk image of my main drive via disk utility as an alternative to time machine
i tried this, running DU from the install DVD, but got an "unable to create dmg input/oputput error". The internal HD is 320GB.
    5. I booted iMac in target disk mode and hooked it up to my Powerbook G4 (i knew this computer would come in handy one day!) and began transferring my most important files which i hadn't backed up.
the file transfers work best when the computer is cold and when the file size is small. If i try for example to copy anything over 10-20MB in size the transfer just trickles at 2MB every few minutes.  Smaller files or folders like email or pictures transfer fine for a about 30 minutes until the disk gets warm (i'm assuming this here!) and then things slow down dramatically.
I eject the target disk and wait for four hours or so, then when i boot it back up, transferring goes at normal speed. i have managed to back up most of my data this way the last two days.
    6. as a last measure I installed OS X 10.5.4 (what shipped with my iMac) on an external firewire drive
I thought i could use this method to check the problematic disk with a better third party tool, clone the internal HD, or simply just erase the HD and reinstall OS X. I haven't tried those things yet because I am still unsure the drive is failing. I mean it really feels like something is very wrong, but disk utility runs on the HD with no errors and the hadrware test comes back error free. I know not to trust these utilities 100% but i would expect them to recognize a failing HD. Or am I being naive? If the disk is indeed failing then zeroing the drive and reinstalling OS X makes no sense and I want to replace the HD asap.
I'm curious to hear what the experts have to say. Maybe I missed something in my troubleshooting. It's been many years since I last had any serious Mac trouble, so i'm a bit out of touch.
    best regards, Dan

You're having trouble transferring files over 20MB, seemingly even right after starting TDM. That doesn't sound like "long periods of time".
You couldn't access the drive usefully while booted from the DVD either.
