Mac users cant access website

When trying to connect to a certain website my company is hosting Mac users are unable to connect to the site when the firewall is turned on. PC's and BSD does not seem to be affected. We are using win 2k3 server and the standard windows firewall which has TCP-80, 8080 and 443 open. Do Macs use another port that other platforms do not for connecting to websites? If so does anybody know what that port would be as I have had no luck finding out and blocking all macs from our sites is not sonmething I wish to do.

When I turn on the firewall I get people screaming at me that they can't get on the site, only mac's no pc's. Its not only one server either there are 3 and all have the same issue. I have tried the site with my laptop that has freeBSD as well as my desktop with isnt a Mac and have no problms but the second I turn on that firewall, BAM emails galore from Mac users.
I have tried opening the UPD ports on 80,443 and 8080 thinking that may help but that didnt work either. Theres some port I need to open that only Macs use and I have no idea what it may be.

Exchange 2013 Sp1 some users cant access owa

After I install new exchange 2013 with sp1 on windows 2012 R2 server one for mail boxes and the second Client Access, i move all mail boxes to it, then i uninstall the old server (exchange 213 with cu3).
All may exchange server’s virtual machines on hyper-v 2012R2
I install certificate and configure virtual directories
I notice some users can’t open there mail boxes from OWA they get a blank page after the enter username and password (from internal and external) (the same users can open outlook anywhere) at the same times many users can access owa.
After many restarts they can access OWA.
After some days some other users can’t access owa.
I remove ECP and OWA virtual directories, Then Recreate and configure it.
But the same problem some users cant access owa
I install a new client access server, configure it

YOu can check below things to resolve the problem
Disable SSL from Default Web Site if you have enabled them
Check if you have set any redirection in the Default Website if so remove redirection and see the results
Ensure that you have a valid certificate for owa VD
check correctly the authentication type - windows authentication is enabled or if you have form based authentication enabled
Below is an example for enabling WA
set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "servername\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false

[SOLVED]Creative Zen V - libmtp regular user cant access

Anyone know how to configure libmtp so that a regular user (not root) can access the device? I have searched the forum/wiki but didnt find anything usefull.
When I run mtp-detect as root it prints alot of info about the device, so I guess its working correctly. Same command as non-root user gives

Found non-autodetected device "Creative Zen V" on USB bus...
usb_claim_interface(): Operation not permitted
Connection error.
No devices.

Cant access through amarok either as non-root user.

LOL...solved it myself :oops:
And incase someone else runs into the same problems, heres how I solved it...
Make sure you have libmtp installed "pacman -Q libmtp". Add the udev rule one post above and reboot. Plug in player. Start amarok, then go to Settings->Configure Amarok->Media Devices, click Add Device. Choose MTP Media Device from the pulldown menu, give it a name and click OK. Then click Apply then OK. Amarok should now detect the device and you will be able to add files to the player.
I was clicking Autodetect Device and thats why it wasnt working.... Now I love linux again

Easy Way to allow Mac Users to Access Windows Shares

I have a client that runs a mix of macs and pcs.
They have a seperate domain for macs running on an xserve with 10.2.8 server and a domain of windows 2000 servers for the pcs
My question is, is there an easy way to allow the mac users to be authenticated to shares that are available on the windows 2000 network without having to be prompted with a different login? ie access the shares with there current mac login username and password?

If your mac clients can 'see' the windows domain then simply add a single generic user account on the Windows Server. Most people create a single account called macuser with the same password.
Mac clients should now be able to command+K from the Go Menu and key in smb://windowserver'sIPaddress. They should be prompted for the user name and password.
If you want to use the same account details as available on the Mac Server then you could export users from the local Node and import them into the Windows Server. Passwords are not retained using this method but if you don't have a lot of mac users you can simply re-key their passwords or use a password common to all and use a password policy forcing users to change them at next log-in. You could consider using something like Passenger which does retain passwords. Depending on which Windows Server it is I'm not sure how successful it would be reading imported account from such an old server version?
Again if you don't have a lot of mac users simply key them all in.

If your Menu Bar is Enabled -->
Tools > Options > Content
If your Menu Bar is Disabled -->
Firefox > Options > Content
After clicking on Content, you find Block pop-up windows.
On its right, there is a button named Exceptions.
On clicking on Exceptions, another window will open.
There you can type the address of the website that you wish to visit.
Then, click on Allow.
This should do the trick.

Do this from the system preferences window.
Click on Users&Groups.
Click on the padlock (bottom left) to unlock it if it's not unlocked.
Then highlight the account in the left pane that you want to remove...
and then click on the MINUS symbol on the bottom left of that window.
Just make sure when you delete an account, that you're currently NOT LOGGED INTO that account, or it's not going to work.
Feel free to chose the delete home-folder option when it prompts you.

Live Earth Concert - Mac users cant view?

today is Live Earth Day. the concerts are streamed to the world by MSN.
although it says;
"...THE CONCERT IS AVAILABLE FOR MOST INTERNET BROWSERS,
BUT FOR THE BEST VIEWING EXPERIENCE, USE INTERNET EXPLORER..."
i cant view it on safari, firefox, netscape, or my old internet explorer. new I.E. isnt available for mac...as far as i remember. hmm. anyone have a workaround or alt. link to see this concert online?

Hi John, it runs fine for me on Safari beta 3.0.2 and Firefox 2.0. Do you have the Flip4Mac plug-in? it converts wmv and avi to Quicktime.

I see from your system details that you are using an older version of Firefox that is no longer supported. There is no guarantee that any website will function well with such an old version. I would highly recommend upgrading to the latest version here:

Is it too much to ask that a Mac user can just OPEN and USE a PDF form created by LiveCycle Designer PC software?!?

My problem is just that- I have created all my forms using LiveCycle Designer because it is easier to make the forms accessible to individuals with disabilities. Apparently it doesn't make Mac users have access to the forms. I've received complaints from Mac users that cannot complete or submit the forms that I created. I'm not asking how to recreate using another software, I know how to do that. I'm asking is there a work around to allow a Mac user to open a PDF form or even XML (bedded within an HTML page) on a Mac computer WITHOUT having to use bootcamp, parallels, etc. and be able to complete the form and submit, print or email it????? I've exhausted all my knowledge on this thus far and I'm hoping to find something that will help. So far all forums talk about how Mac users need to have a PC side to their computer. Isn't there another way?

You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.

Using Shared Review via Network Folder on Windows server and PC and Mac users commenting

We are having initiation and connection problems on the Macs (running OS 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) with Shared Reviews (from Acrobat 9) that are stored on a Windows 2008 Server connecting via SMB. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is successfully:
1) Initiating Shared Reviews from a Macintosh via "Automatically collect comments on my own internal server" and navigating to a folder (with full read/write permissions for all) on a Windows server. We cannot get Acrobat (via the automated SR set-up wizard) to verify the network folder location on the Macs so that a Mac user can initiate a Shared Review. On Windows (using Parallels or logging in to a PC directly), the same users have no problem initiating and accessing Shared Reviews.
2) Accessing Shared Reviews on a network folder (set up on a Windows 2008 server) via a Mac running OSX 10.6.4 and Acrobat 9. All users have read/write access to the folder and can navigate to it via the server. They can save documents to the network folder and open other documents there as well. When they open a Shared Review-enabled PDF for commenting, they get the error message that Acrobat cannot connect to the server. Retry results in the same error message.
We use Shared Reviews extensively and have no problems with PC users accessing the files and Mac users accessing them via Windows (Parallels or on a PC). This is very frustrating so I would really appreciate any ideas, especially if anyone is actually doing Shared Reviews this way.

Unfortunately, this is NOT fixed based on the testing I have done.
1) I am still unable to connect to the network folder on a Windows server from the Mac to initiate a Shared Review In Acrobat version 9.4.6. Same error message as previous Unable to locate server. See screenshot:
2) One of the Mac users (also upgraded to Acrobat 9.4.6) who was invited to participate in a Shared Review (initiated using Parallels/Windows) was initially able to open the file and Publish comments. However, after she did and closed the file, she was unable to reopen the same file, connect to the server and add comments. And no other Mac user could access the file after she added her first comments. We all got the error message "Unable to connect etc" See screenshot.
3) I opened the same file in Parallels/Windows with no problem. However, the Mac user's comments were not there. I could add comments and publish in Windows.
4) When I tried to access the Tracker from my Mac (review was initiated via Parallels), I got the error message File not Found when I tried to access the test review via my Mac (see screenshot).
Could you give me more information about the fix? I would also be happy to talk to you or send more details if that would help.
Our set up has not changed from the original information I sent (there may have been some Mac updates -- we are all on OS 10.6.8 but still Snow Leopard). Server has not changed.

Any Solutions for DFS, SMB Volumes for Mac Users

We are thinking of setting up X server to manage our growing mac user base. A major question is how or if X server can provide a way of giving mac users network access on par with windows users. In our case- we use Microsoft's DFS (Distributed File System). Apple does not support DFS. We have used AdmitMac so we have had a way of dealing with it.
With X Server, is there a way I can "reshare" smb volumes from windows servers in a way that would resemble what windows users see?

Did you figure anything out? I'm interested in doing something similar if you find an answer.

Store access problems with different Mac user accounts

My daughters account cannot connect to the iTunes store ONLY when she is logged into her user account on our iMac.
When logged into my user account she is able to connect to the store.
I can connect to the store if I log into my iTunes account when I am logged in her iMac user account.

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.2 & iTunes 7.6.2 (9)
The computers firewall settings are 'allow all incoming connections'.
There have been no changes to our netgear router.
As stated there is no ISP issue here as she can connect on other Mac user accounts and I can connect on her Mac user account.
I have deleted her .com.apple.iTunes.secure.plist
The error message -50 takes about 5 minutes to arrive after the 'accessing iTunes store' eventually stops. We have also had error -4 on one occasion.
It is possible to view her account details but when clicking on the iTunes store icon in iTunes it doesn't connect to the store.
I have deleted the existing iTunes file and downloaded a new iTunes file. I have changed the purchasing from shopping cart to one click in iTunes Preferences.
And I have emailed apple. Their reply hasn't been of help as yet.
Hopefully someone will have some ideas as to what to do next!

Don't get me wrong, I love Apple - their design, the fact my computer does 'just work' and the way I now listen to music. Just a bit surprised by that reply.

It is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken. If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

I am a new mac user and have a 15 macbook pro (non retina display). I am having an issue with safari "freezing" ...it will work fine for a while and then I will open a new tab and attempt a website that won't load and after that it seems no website will.

So yes like mentioned above...i am a new mac user...have only had it about four days and have had a windows based system always before this. The issue I am having is that I will be in safari and it will work perfect for a while and then i will open a new tab and attempt another website and it will either be extremely slow or will give the error that it cannot connect to the server, however, when i run diagnostics my internet is fine. The only solution i have found is to reboot and geeksquad has been unable to replicate the problem while connected to my computer to try to do so. Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone else with this problem? If you have a "fix" please try layman's terms because again I have no idea about macs haha. Thanks,
