MacBook - Keeps Dying
For some reason, or another my MacBook keeps forcing me to reboot it, at odd occasions. It doesn't matter what Applications I'm running, it will often just stop responding, forcing a reboot. Or, in another scenario, it will just black out (with the back light and cursour remaining) which I can't get out of, forcing another reboot. Another scenario is that it doesn't actually sleep, if the lid is shut, the Sleep light will remain on (which according to the manual means that the HDD has a problem), and never sleep, nor "wake up", again forcing a reboot. Sometime app's will just freeze, and never 'un-freeze' nor, will Force Quit open.
After all this, I'm leaning towards a HDD failure, but an not sure.
Any help appreciated,
Adam
It could be the HDD or even your RAM, among other things... have you tried running the hardware diagnostics that are on your Leopard disc?

My MacBook keeps resetting itself to 2008. Also the batter was fully charged when I went to bed last night and then when I picked up the computer this morning it was dead. When powered up it was on 2008 again after I had just reset it last night. Any ideas? or suggestions?
The time and date, as well as other settings, are kept by the PRAM battery when your machine is off.
It sounds like your pram battery is dead and the regular power battery is dying or defective. The Pram battery replacement is difficut and best left to an Apple service provider. The Power battery is user replaceable if it is removable.
Links to how to replace the pram battery in case you have the skills and tools needed.

My iPad's battery keeps dying. When I plug it in and put it back on, the screen shows a drained battery. After a few moments it boots up. However, when I check the battery charge, it's at 52% or so. Can someone tell me what's causing this? And what can I do to fix it?
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

My macbook keeps asking me to use an administrator and their password to continue but nobody seems to know who is the administrator for this computer...does anyone know how to avoid this this or figure out who the administrator is?
Lynne130,
to figure out which users have administrative privileges, open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences; each user other than the Guest User will be shown with a description of either “Admin” or “Standard”. It’s typical for the first user created on a Mac to be an administrative user. -
Macbook Pro died and now won't connect to the internet
I just got home from college and my Macbook Pro died while I was using it because I couldn't find the charger in time to plug it in (stupid mistake that I never ever let happen usually). After I found it, plugged it in, and started it up again, the date and time were messed up on the computer. I reset them to normal and tried to connect to the internet using my old settings, but it hasn't connected.
I've tried a lot to try and fix it so far and it still won't connect. Other computers and devices (HP and Dell laptops, iPod touches, PS3) that my family have and use all work and connect to the internet fine.
I've tried to run the Network Diagnostics and after plugging in all of my settings and information, it says that it can't fix it. Next to it on the left, the Airport, Airport Settings, and ISP are all green...but the Network Settings is yellow and the Internet and Server are red.
I've deleted my internet settings and tried recreating them and that hasn't worked either. I have also tried the Assist Me portion to make a new connection - no luck there.
I've also tried resetting the Macbook Pro and the router (an Actiontec router for Verizon FIOS) multiple times and that hasn't worked either.
I unfortunately can't use Time Machine either because I don't have an external hard-drive and haven't set it up.
I just don't really know what to do at this point. Hopefully someone can help me out!Same problem--hoping to get Apple's attention by throwing my hat in the ring with everybody else.
Things tried (now approaching 2 weeks of failure):
Deleting "Airport" Connection, Adding/Restarting/Re-adding/etc.
Archive Install
Erase & Install (full reinstall done by Genius)
Card Replacement
Bluetooth Replacement
Zapping the PRAM
Trying different connections/routers/locations/connection types/etc.
Visited Genius bar 4 times now.
Have been without the computer longer than I've been with it.
Trying to change over from a horrifically bad Dell to a refurb Mac worked once before...though I've come to believe: It's not the refurb, it's not the hardware, it's not the settings, it's not the router, it's not the install, it's not the associated software, it's not the connection, it's not the Super Moon that comes up tomorrow...It's a hardware issue as this has been happening since I opened the computer out of the box, and we have an identical computer running identical programs on an identical network with the identical updates and NO problems whatsoever--I'm assuming the innards may have been cheap'ed out somewhere to save a buck or a connector is faulty after a particular build date?
Full symptom list (in no particular order):
Connection Timeout
Connection Drop
Not recognizing Airport
Card Recognition but endless connection time
IP non-recognition
Random re-connect
Indication of connection without transmitting/receiving data
Frustrated Mac lover trying to convert a Dell user...
APPLE, WHERE ARE YOU!? -
My macbook keeps randomly turning off.
My macbook keeps randomly shutting off. It is no longer under warranty. I've read all of these discussions from people with similar issues and I've tried some of the things that seemed logical. it's a late 2007 MacBook. I bought it used from a friend and they never had this issue. It was wiped clean and when I got it, after about 5 LONG uses, it randomly shut down once. I installed Snow Leopard, updated to 10.6.8, then the problem started. The fan seems to be running fine. The problem occurs weather it's plugged in or not, so I'm pretty positive it's not the battery. I've done the PRAM reset and the SMC reset.. I also took the computer apart and cleaned it. Performed the SMC reset again and it seems to be working for right now. Hopefully that's all it needed but if the problem continues does anyone have any suggestions on what it may be? Thanks.

Macbook keeps crashing..how to read crash report?
I am trying to figure out why my macbook keeps crashing. I took it into the apple store, they ran all kinds of diagnostic tests on it, and said everything looks fine. However, it keeps crashing. I've noticed that it crashes when:
1) I open chrome, play a hulu video in chrome (or most flash video players)
2) Often times when I drag a folder into itunes
3) Open sonos music player and drag through songs (not all the time, but many times after it's been used a lot)
It doesn't happen consistently with all of these instances, but with chrome it happens the most. I'm not sure how to read these crash reports.. can someone help? It looks like a driver issue, but not sure.

It's because they're just a bunch of amateurs.
All they can do is wear a cool tee-shirt and read you is what it written on the label (in case you don't know how to read, it helps).
I have the same problem since I installed Maverick (supposedly the BEST ever) : My computer has never crashed so much since then !
It crashes about every 50 minutes when I (try to) work, almost everytime the computer recovers from sleep, when I launch iTunes (their own software !!!), ...
I remember those cool guys making fun of the competition ; they're now at the exact same point ! Good job guys !!! -

What was the wording of the error message?

I'm trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard but my macbook keeps ejecting the disc. It started to install the first time and said it needed to restart to finish, restarted but ejected the disc. It ejects every time now. I've also installed the 10.5.8 combo update but that didn't help it. I've tried restarting the macbook with the disc in, holding c, all that. Why won't this work?!
Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

Old MacBook Pro Died, Trying to Transfer Creative suite
Hello!
Wondering if anyone can help me, my old MacBook Pro died (Logic Board faliure) , I had Adobe Creative Suite CS4 on it and I want to get it on my new computer.
I got an enclosure for the harddrive and can transfer files to my new computer but after transfering my Adobe programs it won't let me open them, says there is some sort of licencing issue (error 6). I'm just wondering if there are some files I am missing or what, I can't deactivate it on my old computer as all that is left of it is the harddrive. I also don't have the install disks as I moved and lost them... If anyone can help me out with this I would be very greatfull.
Regards,
K. Spencer JonesOf course you need the serial number. And yes, it’s on the DVD case or sign into your account and you’ll find it there….if you registered.

My macbook keeps turning off and freezing on start up
So like my macbook keeps either freezing on start up or it will just shut off or restart itself
When it restarts itself it will bring up the main screen then this box comes up telling me to hold down the power button and restart it
A friend said it might have something to do with the fan not working or it overheating
But I can have it off all night then turn it on in the morning and it will mess up
It will do it sometimes between 2-4 times
I don't know what is making it does this
I ran the check up things and it said that nothing was wrong? This sounds like the same thing that has been happening to both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Some others sound like they have similar problems. This is what I posted in the Macbook Pro area regarding the same symptoms. This is discouraging. These computers are expensive and they should have the bugs worked out better than this.

I wonder if I have similar problems. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and a Macbook 13"
1st my macbook started shutting itself off unexpectedly. It got more and more frequent. I have done several fixes including: archive and install, sending it in to have a logic board replaced, downloading an updated disc utility repair, and sending it in to have a power component replaced. Now I will be sending it in for a third time and I think they will replace the Macbook machine if this repair doesn't work.
Now my Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had it for about 6 months and it was running fine until now. I ran the exact same software on my 12 G-4 powerbook without any problems. One of the computer people at work said it sounds like a power problem. It happens whether it is running AC or on battery power and doesnt seem to matter what I am doing.
I am waiting for the macbook to be fixed before I address the Macbook Pro because I dont want to have both of my computers in the shop at the same time.
Any suggestions? This seems totally unacceptable for two new expensive computers. -

The Three Best Alternatives for Security Questions and Rescue Mail
1. Use Apple's Express Lane.
Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the
bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then
'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Forgotten Apple
ID security questions' and click 'Continue'. Please be patient waiting for the return
phone call. It will come in time depending on how heavily the servers are being hit.
2. Call Apple Support in your country: Customer Service: Contact Apple support.
3. Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions.
A substitute for using the security questions is to use 2-step verification:

HT1338 my macbook keeps freezing
my macbook keeps freezing how do i fix this problem?
Boot from your installer dvd, recovery partition, or external bootable drive and run Disk Utility to repar/verify your drives (not repair permissions).
Do a smc and pram reset.
Boot in safe mode then reboot.
See if your machine still freezes after those operations are preformed. If so run Apple Hardware Test to check your machine.
If AHT findes nothing then your software additions will need to be investigated. But worry about that later. -
