Macbook Warranty

Hey All,
I've had my macbook white 13' (base model) for about 10 months now. The optical drive was making a funny noise and would only play random cd's/DVD's untill it fully stopped working and making really bad clicking noises =( of course this has to happen when i need to re-install the OS (typical). I thought i might of just had some bad media disks untill i tried to re-install the OS only to have the comp spit the install disk out after a few noisy clicks.
So off to the apple repairer i go where on apples database my warranty is out so they have to send my proof of purchase in to get it authorized.
Next thing, the repairer rings me up and informs me that the HDD has died and the mouse clicker is no longer working aswell.....
So, three major hardware parts to fail within the twelve months of having the device.
Keep in mind, i rarely move my laptop nor has it been dropped etc.
I call tech support to find out what they can do seems the warranty is up in two months and this doesnt put alot of faith in me that the macbook will last much longer than the warranty.
His reply is "great news, you can still buy the apple protection plan and put an extra 2years of warranty on it" ......... well, i don't have a spare $400 just laying around.
Has anyone experienced something like this and what was the result? (eg. did they extend the warranty?) Its kind of a joke that something worth $1600 can just fail within 10months.....
Thanks,
Luke

In all honesty, it seems odd that your trackpad was working fine and you were not experiencing hard drive issues until after you submitted it for repairs. Was this directly with Apple or an Apple Authorized Repair Center? I guess it's possible that they ran a hardware test and realized the drive "may" be failing, but I would expect that they would give you the option to replace it vs. indicating it had failed. It sort of sounds like they had issues when they opened it up to replace the optical drive. You can purchase an extended warranty at your own option. The purpose of the extended warranty is exactly as its name implies... to extend your warranty. Apple gives you a year in which to do so. You have experienced problems while in your initial warranty, so fortunately those repairs were covered. If you were to want an additional two years of coverage, you would need to purchase the extended warranty just like anyone else. I'm just a little skeptical with respect to the other two issues arising after you brought it in for repair... I'd be more so if it were an authorized service center vs. directly with Apple. I would either definitely want to be confident that they did a good job... or go for an extended warranty.

  • Apple Macbook warranty valid for online shopping ?

I would like to buy Macbook Air from online shopping sites like flipkart.com or snapdeal.com . But i'm not clear regarding warranty.
As snapdeal and flipkart.com displaying 1year warranty in their websites, but these websites are not authorised apple sellers.  In future, if  i face any hardware problems or yellow tint on screen, will apple service center accept my warranty ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After you purchase the machine you can add a legitimate 3yr Apple care plan if the machine is indeed new.

  • MacBook Warranty & Aftermarket Batteries

I was wondering if I would be voiding my warranty if I were to use an aftermarket battery such as the "TruePower" battery at FastMac

Found on page 2 of the warranty:
"This warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by use with non-Apple products"
That's a pretty broad statement but basically, it would void the warranty or make the warranty not apply. Of course, that would work the same as damage caused by a printer, scanner, external HD, etc, etc.. The battery just seems a little more integral than an external devise.
To me, it's not worth the risk unless that third-part company will warrant your MacBook in full if it damages it.

  • MacBook WARRANTY question...HELP.

ok heres the deal...before i started working at circit cityy (had to mispell on purpose lol) i really wanted a new macbook pro...the only place local (i thought) to purchase a mac was at the local best buy here in SPRINGFIELD , MISSOURI.  after choosing the one i wanted (MacBook Pro 17" Intel 2.5GHz 2GB RAM; this is the previous model of mac than the new body style) i was ready to purchase. SOOO after waiting at least 45 mins to finnaly get an employees attention long enough to get a freakin computer for me i was ready to buy.  my mother was making the purchase, and she decided to do the protection plan on it.  2 years i think...neway its been about 7 months since i got one and my screen flickers alot and im going to take it back to get it REPLACED because i can do that with my warranty....RIGHT?!? just making sure i can at no cost ANY CLUE??  ALSO, since there is a new style macbook pro, i was wondering if they might replace it with a comparable newer style of the pro books if it was UNFIXABLE....????
please respond with ANY info!!! Thank you all so much!!

The laptop will need to be sent out to the service center.  They will repair any hardware issues for free.  It will take about 2 to 3 weeks until it is repaired and shipped back to the Best Buy store you checked it into.
If the laptop could not be fixed, you would receive an exchange for the same amount you paid.
If there is a difference in another model you want, you would pay the difference.
Still, to determine if it could not be fixed, you would send it to their service center and wait to hear from them if they could not repair it.
They will most likely be able to repair your screen, and you probably won't get a replacement.  But you won't have to pay a dime.

  • MacBook Warranty - How much time is left

Is there some place where I can track how much time is left on my warranty? When I initially bought the Mac, I know I had 90 days telephone service and a warranty on the macbook itself for one year. I think I have some in store assistance as well. Where can I find this location and is there a place where I can see how much time is remaining on my warranty (I can't remember when I purchased my macbook). Thank you.

  • Is the MacBook warranty valid internationally?

I bought a MacBook early this year but now I'm stationed in Panama and I'm wondering if my warranty is still valid here.
Thanks for any info you may provide.

The warranty for most Apple products is worldwide. I know for the MacBook, this is true.

I don't speak or read Korean so I can't say what's going on but you might also be able to find something out at Apple's Korean Support page.

  • MacBook Warranty Question

I bought a white, previous-generation MacBook (not the unibody) this past December (2009). It works fine, but this morning I noticed a small crack in the case. The crack is on the right-hand palm rest, near the edge. It is more like a splinter than a crack. The splinter is on the darker plastic (it is light gray) on the horizontal plane, not the white plastic. I never dropped the laptop, never traveled with it, not handled it roughly. Is this covered under Apple's warranty? I plan to bring it by the local Apple Store today. But would like an idea of how this defect might be handled. Thanks.

Typically they will order whatever parts are needed (may not even need to order if they have them in stock) which are delivered very quickly. If no one is ahead of you in line for repairs then a certified tech does the repair and they call you to come pick it up. I've seen repairs take a day or less, and I've seen them delayed due to parts unavailability. A couple of weeks would be extreme.
If they determine they are unable to repair, they would replace it. This does not happen often.
Talk to the Mac genius you bring the MacBook in to about your concerns.

  • MacBook won't turn on, let alone start up!

My 9 month old MacBook (white) does not turn on or start up at all. I've tried all troubleshooting procedures that Apple.com suggests. I recently split some fruit cup juice on my MacBook (it happened a couple days ago). Since then, it won't function even when the power adapter is connected to it. What I'm thinking is that I just need to open the MacBook (warranty is useless now, that's what every Apple specialist has told me) and clear out any gunk or liquid that has dried up on the internal components of the computer. Could attempting this work, or is my computer just fried for good?

See if your homeowners insurance will cover it without dropping you.
If not, send it in for service, at someplace you can afford. Your data likely still is secure, unless the drive controller got fried (a very remote possibility). These places may be less than Apple:

  • How To Transfer Ownership of Almost New Macbook?

This guy is selling a macbook pro that he bought online at the apple store in December 2012. Its a core i7 2.6ghz 16gb ddr3, 256gb SSD and 1gb nVidia 650m card.
He says I can upgrade the SSD if i want to. Also he says the warranty is good until one year from December so he says I have until December 2013 is this true? If he prints the receipt off for me (which he said he would) it has his name and address on it.
I want to write this off for business purposes. How do I get the transfer into my name? If i need to take it to the genius bar I want it to be in my name.
    Thanks

we are going in circles... because you keep tying registration and ownership as one...
you: call apple to have your name and address registered to the MacBook. warranty follows the MacBook for how ever long. they will fix parts, replace parts, at apple store or by mail as you will be the main contact from then on
to get money back for what ever reason
original purchaser: contacts apple and documents that he is transferring ownership to you. he will need to supply apple with proof of purchase, personal info, etc  and that he is "transferring" it to you (more or less) as you will then be the new owner...

  • Do batteries come with a warranty? going on number 4 for bad batteries

I'm on my third battery, actually have had it for a while so it may just be time for a new one, but I've always seem to have a problem with them and when I get a new one, does it come with a warranty or anything? I don't see that on Apple store or anything, I just don't want to spend that kind of money on a 4th battery and have it not last. I've never had a battery get to the 300 cycle count and they barely last an hour. I do calibrate it from time to time too.
Here's my specs of the battery I have now:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3125
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2867
    Amperage (mA): -1508
    Voltage (mV): 11817
    Cycle Count: 167
My Macbook warranty just got finished a couple months ago so I assume I have to buy a new battery, just want to know if that battery comes with some warranty in case I get another crappy one

No they do not -- but it depends on your situation.
How old is your MBP? Your MBP carries a one year warranty during which time it includes free battery replacement if something goes wrong. If you purchase the Apple Care warranty, it covers free battery replacement for two more years.
However, your 167-cycle battery reading on your post is only about half the cycle charges you should be getting....
If this is the 4th battery replacement, there is something seriously wrong not with your battery, but with the electrics of your MBP itself. You should bring it in for service if you are under warranty and let them look at all the power things, and see where your drain is coming from.
APple Battery's are rated for about 300 recharge cycles (about 2 years of normal daily usage). There is something wrong with your machine.

  • Problem with Apple Care Registration Process

My MacBook warranty will expire pretty soon. So, I ordered my Apple Care Protection Plan from Apple online store in Thailand since September 9, 2009. It arrived this morning (September 15, 2009).
When I try to register Apple care for my machine, Problem was starting. I do following on screen process, put my Macbook Serial No. and Apple Care Protection Plan registration No from package. Screen Show "We're sorry, but this registration number is not valid. Please check your information and try again."
I tried to contact Apple Care representative in Thailand. He was kindly enough to ask Apple online Store about this. He came back with answer that there are some problems about Apple care registration and I have to wait for week for response!!
Why product from apple online have this kind of problem? And customer have to wait for one week without knowing anything!!

You should be fine. The good thing is 1) you bought it from Apple and 2) you have contacted them about it before your initial warranty expired. Just be sure to follow up with them. If you haven't done so... you may want to give them a call back just to get a case number so you can have something to reference in case they don't get the problem sorted out before you warranty expires.

Have you done the battery update? About Battery Update 1.2.
I had this happen to me but at 23%. Apple replaced my battery with no problem. If your MacBook is the original core duo which it sounds as it is then you are in luck. The battery for the original has had it's warranty extended an extra year. Even if you MacBook warranty is dead the batteries isn't. If the update doesn't work contact Apple at the number listed in the update.
One point is be firm but polite. I had no problems getting mine but others have had to argue some to get the battery replaced.

  • Automatically shutting down at 20% battery

I've recently experienced this twice. The first time I didn't really look much into it because I thought it was an isolated incident. But today, it happened again. I was in a lecture, and the lecture hall had no powerplugs, so I had to use the battery for an hour or so. So, the battery reaches 20%, and it just shuts down on me. Is there a major problem? Shouldn't the battery at least get to 1% or 2% before shutting itself down?
My MacBook has had problems before, changed the heatsink, and replaced a battery (didn't detect). I hope this isn't another problem because my warranty ran out last month.
    Thanks.
