Macromedia Contribute
Question: Will dreamweaver work on my existing older site where I used Macromedia contribute as my maintenance software?
Bob
If you can't work with code, you shouldn't use Dreamweaver. The learning curve can be quite steep. My advice is to keep using Contribute or learn HTML & CSS first.

Macromedia Contribute 3.11 Slow Connection issues Windows 7
I have got Macromedia Contribute 3.11, i am experiencing lot of issues at the moment.
Firstly, it takes a long time to connect to the server, most of the times it connects to the server, sometimes it fails, but the time it takes to connect to the server is unacceptable.
Secondly, contribute is taking a long time to publish the webpages.
I am using Windows 7, when I ran the compatibility check, it said incompatible detected, and suggested to change to Windows XP Service Pack 2. I did that, but still the issue persists...
Any suggestions or recommendations would be really appreciated.
Many Thanks
SatsHi,
To speed up RDP connection, please select High Color (16 bit) under Colors, and under Experience tab, select Modem (56 Kbps).
To make IE fast, safe and stable, please attempt to run this fixit below:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/ie_performance_and_safety
Also, you can use UI responsiveness tool to dig into what is happening in F12 developer tool in IE11.
Thanks!

I have been using Macromedia Contribute 3 to maintain my website so my needs are pretty simple. But I would like to upgrade but don't know what to download. I want the new software to handle my existing website without a lot of challenges. What do you recommend?
Hello,
There is no upgrade path available from Macromedia Contribute 3 to Adobe Contribute 6.5. However you can buy the latest version of Contribute which is 6.5 from the link mentioned below.

I want MACROMEDIA Contribute CS3
I bought for my client a copy of Contribute CS3. He's
currently using Macromedia Contribute 3, one month demo. He likes
it, so I want to make it official. It's a small package for a small
nice programm (30MB in size). When I ordered Adobe Contribute CS3
the package was 300MB!!! What is happening ??
So I installed Adobe Contribute CS3 on his system, which took
a lot of time 45min. or so. But after the install I got Adobe
Bridge CS3 WHY?, Adobe Assets WHY?, Adobe Scripting WHY?, Adobe
version cue WHY? etc. etc. etc.
Why o why do I need a program like mDNSResponder.exe only
needed for I-tunes.!!!!
I DON'T need those ADOBE PAYLOADS. I only need what\ I bought
for and that is Adobe Contribute CS3. Please GIVE me a CLEAN
INSTALL. Where is the good old support of Macromedia.!!!! Even
UNINSTALL CS3 took half an hour.
There is NO option to only install Contribute CS3. It's ALL
or NOTHING
It's realy a BAD Adobe experience !!!!!!

DW8 "could not launch Macromedia Contribute "
I am just using DW8 and Contribute 3 in tandem on my new
Windows Vista machine.
In Site Definitions, when I hit the 'Administer Site in
Contribute' button, the re is a flurry of activity and then I get
the message "Dreamweaver could not launch Macromedia Contribute to
administer the site. Please check the Contribute installation"
Any thoughts on this please?
From memory in Dreamweaver MX a Contribute site can be
administered from Dreamweaver without Contribute installed. But I
don't see thta option anymore in DW8. (I originally set up the site
in DW MX on another machine and I would like to be an administrator
in DW8 on this machine.)
Help much appreciated.

Had the same problem here - "Error - Can not find the
Macromedia Flash". I was
using LCARS System47 screensaver from mewho.com. It's an
excellent and stable
screensaver, and the best free one I've found with
dual-monitor support. Adobe
auto-updated Flash after I'd installed the screensaver, and
that's when I
started getting the error. So I thought maybe System47 was
using Flash. I went
back to mewho.com, got the latest install, installed over the
existing, and my
problem is solved. My kudos to Adobe and mewho.com for
staying on top of
things. (Adobe may not have replied to questions in this
forum, but how could
they know? It would be impossible for them to test every one
of the possibly
millions of real-world scenarios. But their products are
always top-notch and
well-supported.)... -
Error Message You must install macromedia contribute version 2.0
I am trying to use the functionality from Dreamweaver to
connect to Contribute and Administer the web sites. I keep getting
the error "You must install Macromedia Contribute version 2.0 or
later to administer a site. Would you like to install Contribute
now?"
I am running Contribute CS3 and Dreamweaver 8. Is there a
patch for this issue?Yes, that could very well be the problem. All sorts of issues
rise when the administrator has a lower version of Contribute. When
a site is administered in CS3 you cannot administer the site in a
lower version at all. Upgrading yourself would be the best policy I
think. I always upgrade when the newer version arrives to avoid
these issues and set the compatibility settings to
Transitional. -
Hey,
We have a user getting the following error when opening any
Office 2003 app.
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product
Macromedia Contribute 3. The Windows Installer cannot continue.
She says it just started a couple of days ago.
Any help with this would be appreciated.I had this same error and updated to Contribute Version 3.11
through the Adobe website last week. Following the prompts, I did
not uninstall Version 3.0 before I ran the update.
The update fixed the issue with the right click / Office
flashpaper thing, but when I open Contribute, I am prompted for a
serial number for the new update or to use the software on a trial
basis. I have my serial number from my initial download of Version
3.0, but do not have a serial number for the update.
I called the Adobe Activation hotline, was transferred to
Customer Service (which had no idea how to fix the request for a
new serial number for Version 3.11, since that was just an update
and shouldn't come with a new serial number), and then eventually
to Tech Support, where I was told that Version 3.x was no longer
supported by Adobe, and that I should post my inquiry here.
So, should I uninstall everything and run the update again?
Any other suggestions? -

Has anyone tried editing an iWeb site with Contribute or Dreamweaver?
Before iWeb, I liked using Adobe Macromedia Contribute to edit the.Mac homepages. I've been giving iWeb a spin, and it seems to occupy the same place in Apple's stable as the rest of its siblings — a pre-pubescent version of Contribute, which is a subset of Dreamweaver.
I haven't yet tried it, but it seems as if the iWeb templates would be a good starting point, and Contribute/Dreamweaver would be great tools to polish the site.
I'm still confused, though, as to what the .Mac WebDAV URLs are...that's the thing that always tripped me up. Dreamweaver 8 is a better at site management, it seems, but if anyone could post a "definitive" guide on using a third-party tool, it would be much appreciated.yes you can use other websoftware to modify iweb sites either after it is on the webserver or if you save it to a folder before publishing.
I tried the demo of Dream weaver and it worked fine..also I used Rapidweaver which works too. Heck you could use anything that can edit HTML which is really just a text file.
The problem with iweb is it is using those stupid PNG files which are big and to make it worse it duplicates all your images rather than having them in a shared folder you can end up with dozens of the same image which when someone visits your site and changes pages it has to download the same image again!
pretty crazy stuff.
iweb looks nice and as long as people are viewing it with broadband you'd be ok but dialup users are "toast" even on a simple site.
I got the demo of rapidweaver which is not as intuiative but in someways is more complete and have done a 3 page site.. others are developing themes for it and also there are plugins which add alot of functionality.
at $35 USD it is cheap and if you go to http://www.screencastsonline.com there are 3 videos to show you how to use it and a discount code.
I personally thing iweb is great but has some design flaws that will need to be delt with. -
Contribute CS4 for Mac crashes
I have Contribute 3 and tried to used it in an Intel Mac and it crashes on launch, so I thought I need an upgrade and last night
I bought Contribute CS4 and I have the exact same problem: It crashes on launch I have to force quit it.
Before I had a Trial version and it worked fine, is when typed in the serial that the trial version froze, so I downloaded a new one
and after installation go fine, then I clicked "Launch the App" and I only get to see the splash window, then it crashes.
A few hours ago I discovered that I need the serial for Macromedia Contribute 3, can someone please tell how I get that serial?
I registered at Macromedia.
Thank youThis is an ongoing problem I was associated with the following thread
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1049444?tstart=0#1049444
but it has been closed because it has been 'answered'! When I searched for this thread I could not find it and I only have it because I found it in an email to myself (almost as if Adobe is trying to hide it!)
I am still having the issues and have had to
delete all reference to Contribute CS4 in Library/Application Support and Library/Preferences.
Relaunch Contribute
Go to Contribute --> My Connections and Check the 'do not connect to websites at startup'
Re do your site Connection
This may work for a while but the problem is certainly not fixed. I manage my school's intranet and have up to 100 people connected. We ahve foolishly just upgraded to CS4!!
Good Luck, hopefully Adobe may reopen the discussion on this matter and actually fix it. Ironically, every time it crashes the Adobe Crash Reporter does not open so Apple get 20 reports from me a day! -
Opening a dreamweaver template in Contribute

Up until this AM, I was able, in DW 8, to administer my sites
in Contribute 4. Now I get the message that "You must install
Macromedia Contribute version 2.0 or later to administer a site.
Would you like to install Contribute now?"
I already have Contribute 4 installed. I have uninstalled and
re-installed the SW with no success. And the thing is, it has been
working for the past few months. And my co-workers have no problem
administering the sites?
Any clues? Thanks.Compatibility:

Installation Error - Contribute 3.11
I downloaded the Contribute 3.11 from Macromedia website and
then I ran Contribute 3.11 Installer. The error occurred with the
message "The system cannot find the path specified." (title bar
showed "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\Macromedia Contribute
3.11\CT_3.0.1_PatchPackage.msp") and an OK button. After I clicked
"OK", another error appeared "CT_Client_Installer.exe" with the
title bar showed "Error Executing the Specified Program". Another
error is "Unable to execute the specified command line!".
Is there a way to fix this?
