Macros in Pages
One of the features I sorely miss from MS Word is Macros.
Is there any way to write a macro or something similar in pages?
Thank you

You can use Applescript: http://pagesfaq.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-do-i-create-macros-in-pages.html

Macro in Pages that deletes every second line?
IM looking for a macro to run in pages that deletes every second line.
I want to be able to run it though tue document so that starting at the 1st line, it deletes lines 1,3,5,7,9,11 etc all the way to the end.
Anyone know what I can do? Perhaps a working AppleScript/programme? Had no luck as of yet.

Macros for Pages??
I'm new to Mac. I need to create a "macro" for use in pages that will: go to the beginning of the line then count over 32 characters (and also go to the end of the line and count back 32 characters). I do this hundreds of times per document when creating closed captions. Can someone help?
Actually, that scriptlet is not right: it goes to the beginning of the *paragraph*, so if you are dealing with more than one line, it one work as expected. But this, I think. will:
activate application "Pages"
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Pages"
key code 123 using {command down} # go to beginning of line
repeat 32 times
key code 124 # move right 32 characters
end repeat
end tell -
Word 2003 to PDF Not Exporting Page Numbers, Other Data
I'm having a weird problem with converting Word 2003 docs to PDF. After the conversion, my PDF does not display page numbers. It shows them as {PAGE}, like the formula or macro for page numbering is not working. I've seen a similar problem with inserted dates. They show up as {DATE}. I'm using Acrobat 9 and have tried both the Adobe PDF>Convert ot PDF menu and printing to Adobe PDF. Both have the same results. HELP!
This is very generaic issue that chang the flow of document while converting MS Doc to PDF. After googing and testing different software I found a PDF Converter, that converts 100% fine copy of Doc to PDF. Watch the below tutorial to know how it works.
It is also featured on CNET free downloads here. -
Printed document page number cross-references
Is it possible to export webhelp to Printed Document - MS
Word with page numbers taking the place of hyperlinks? Must the
page numbers be added after the printed document is created?
If so, can the InsertPagRefs macro insert page numbers across
a multifile document?
I anticipate exporting to printed documents consisting of
multiple files with pictures inserted by reference. I need
cross-reference page numbers that look like internal page
references.
If a master document is not recommended for a large manual,
how is a large manual to be handled? I intend not to use Word as a
base for single sourcing and to create RD fields and files for an
*input* document. I intend to use webhelp as the single source so I
can use RH 7 conditional text and mutiple TOCs to produce multiple
documents and document formats! No but you can easily add them afterwards. There is a macro
on my site that does exactly that.

Mutt status line with multiple accounts
Using pbrisbin's guide as a base (assume the same configuration) and supposing I have new mail in both accounts, I'd like a status line that mimic's something like this:
(gmail/inbox 1)───(gmx/inbox 1)───────────(all)
mutt(6) status_format generally alludes to formats matching the current mailbox.
There is %b, which presumably gets the count of new messages in the mailboxes defined like so:
mailboxes +GMail/INBOX +GMX/INBOX
However, even with a test status format like this:
set status_format = "(Total: %b)───(%f %m%?n? [+%n]?%?d? [-%d]?%?t? [*%t]?)%?p?───(%p draft)?─%>─(%P)───"
... it would always display Total: 0 ...
Any ideas mutt experts?linux-ka wrote:Perhaps a typo regarding folder names.
I checked that. To make sure, I also use this:
macro index, pager <F9> "<change-folder>+GMail/INBOX<enter>" "Go to GMail inbox"
macro index, pager <F10> "<change-folder>+GMX/INBOX<enter>" "Go to GMX inbox"
... the same "mailbox" names. Perhaps mailboxes doesn't work on folders?
linux-ka wrote:cuold it be, that %b just shows the amount of unread mails in the current folder/directory?
Manual reads: "number of mailboxes with new mail *".

Mutt + gmail (imap) + trash
hi everybody.
I've been using a mutt + offlineimap set-up for quite some time which worked like a charm. I did however buy a new laptop for which I wanted direct access from mutt to my gmail account. Pretty much everything works, except for one thing.
I have a macro in my .muttrc
macro index,pager d "<save-message>=[Gmail]/Trash<enter><enter>" "Trash"
which allows me to delete a message (removing all labels and set the "bin"-label to label them with "bin" only).
What does not work (and what I would want to get working) is that I can delete threads or tagged messages the same way (D + regexp for selecting messages to delete or T + regexp for selecting and then d). If I try to delete several messages, all labels are removed (ok), however the Bin-Label is not attached so the mails still remain in the Gmail All-Mail Folder.
I have tried with both mutt, mutt-hg and muttng but always get the same behaviour. I have nothing fancy in my .muttrc (which I will post later when I have access to my notebook).
Any hints for me?Here is my .muttrc file. I did notice that I had to comment out the set trash statement. I had played with Debian before coming back to Arch..

SOURCE_PATH in ZFD app distribution...
I'm struggling to understand how to best specify and use SOURCE_PATH when
distributing apps from a single distributor to subscribers that have a
different volume and folder structure... (legacy servers)
The apps are predominantly MSI, so we need to bear in mind that the
distribution just hoovers up everything under the path specified in
Common->Sources folder.
Ideally i'd like to set the SOURCE_PATH on the individual app object and
then use some 'variablisation' (!?!) on the subscribers to sort the paths
out. However, I can only get the distributor to gather if the SOURCE_PATH
variable is set at the TED policy within the service location package that
is specified on the container above the distributor object... (If I don't,
I just get an error in the TED.LOG:
' the source path %SOURCE_PATH% is invalid. Make sure the "%SO" variable
value is defined in the Tiered Electronic Distribution policy, and that the
policy is associated with the Distributor objects parent container.'
This means I have to set the SOURCE_PATH in that policy for the Distributor
and then specidy specific SOURCE_PATH variables on each subscriber
object... The golden app objects then reference this 'global variable'
with an appended path in the common sources e.g. %SOURCE_PATH%\acrobat
This works... however my concern is having to specify a single SOURCE_PATH
variable that is at the 'root' of all the applications.... If someone gets
trigger happy with an app distribution, they could inadvertently specify
just %SOURCE_PATH% and end up hoovering up all files and folders in that
structure..... I'm sure this would probably kill most of the subscribers
and wan links....!
There must be a better way?! Any suggestions welcome!
Many thanks
David
BTW ZFS/ZFD 6.5SP2!Further clarification:
The issue is with MSI based application distribution. It seems that MSI
based app distributions do not read/accept the SOURCE_PATH macro setting
when gathering the Common->Sources Package Source List...
Effectively the same method for distributing a snapshot based app works
fine i.e. the Distrubitors gatherer process accepts the SOURCE_PATH macro
setting from the snapshot based app as the SOURCE_PATH variable for the
distribution and modifies its value accordingly.
We are specifying SOURCE_PATH in the Common->Macros property page on both
types of apps. The only difference is that the snapshot app references the
macro in the Distribution Options->Application Files Source column,
whereas the MSI based app references the macro in the Common->Sources
Package Source List
Why is it that MSI and snapshot based apps are treated differently?
(Another approach may be to allow the SOURCE_PATH variable to be set upon
the distribution but there doesnt seem to be a mechanism to set variables
on a specific distribution, only the distributor)
Can someone please clarify what's going on during the distribution?
Many thanks

[solved] mutt with tiling window managers = bad = how to improve?
Hi guys
I want to use mutt as my mail client. I've tested several others, but none fits me better. It has to be a cli application, because that's just the way I want it to be.
The only thing I don't like about mutt is its inability to handle resizing terminals. This is something which happens all the time with tiling window managers. Let me demonstrate with screenshots.
mutt as it's supposed to look http://www.unstucc.de/myspace/mutt-normal.png
mutt how it looks after the screen got resized. http://www.unstucc.de/myspace/mutt-resized.png
Hitting Ctrl+l rerenders mutt's interface, but this is really going on my nerves.
I run mutt in urxvt, but I also tested it with xterm, comparable result (it's a little bit better in xterm, but still not perfect)
I've been searching for this for quite a while now and I can't find ideas how to solve this.
Any help is very appreciated.

I wanted to try sup, but this app never ran here, always because of some compatibility issues with Arch's ruby afair. But I could give it another try some day.
edit: Just tried it again, the dependencies don't build ... I don't like ruby stuff!!!
But since it seems like the problem I have might be solvable, I'd recommend to stick with mutt and solve this.

Split and Merge pages of a PDF in an Outlook VB Macro
Hello,
I was tasked with pushing PDF attachments to our image system using a VB Macro from Outlook. Easy enough to do by itself but there is an additional requirement to direct certain pages of the attachment to one folio in the image system and other pages to a different folio. In the event the user doesn't separate these different documents when they submit them, our home office users must select which pages go to which area.
I have Adobe 9.0 Pro Extended installed but the users only have Reader.
I think the best way to approach this is to have the document opened for viewing and select pages via some control (chkbox?) to save in to a separate document. So, if pages 1, 8, 22-24 were selected, create a new pdf in the image queue with those pages only. Maybe this isn't possible with users that only have Reader installed, in which case another method could be suggested?
If I can just get a general idea on how to accomplish this, what libraries to reference and a snippet or two of code, I can probably put the rest together. Can anyone out there help me out with a direction to head?
Thanks! If it is only for split&merge you can use a freeware tool from a long list which can do it, like PDFTK, .....

Pro-forma macros from word in pages
We use an admin program called Archioffice to create all our correspondance.
This program opens a word template file in word and fills in a variety of fields using a macro document that it also opens in word.
I don't suppose that pages would support such a system of linking information from one document to another from a filmaker based database would it?
It would be quite nice to be able to get away from having yo use MS office.
Karl Barker. Not easily - no. I am pretty sure you can get something fairly similar if you invest time in writing an AppleScript for it, but I am also pretty sure that it will take quite a long time. At least if you expect everything to become just as you like it.

Can I write a macro that will extract pages
I'm pretty good at using Microsoft's VBA for writing macros in Excel. I'm wondering if Acrobat has anything similar to manipulate pdf files. My company has a lot of PDFs that we want to split up into small documents. I'd like to be able to write a script that would look for certain text, then based the page where it found the text, it would extract a range of pages into a new document. Think of it as taking a book and having the macro break it up into chapters so each chapter would be it's own PDF file. Even better would be for the macro to do this to all files in a folder. Is something like this possible in Acrobat?
It's possible with JavaScript. JavaScript can be using in a batch sequence (aka Action), to deal with a collection of documents.
Here are the basic methods you'd use:

IWork / Pages / Scripting? or Macros?
Hi!
I'd like to know if there's a way to integrate macros or do some easy scripting in Pages?
I'd like to change some text-characters to others, especially none-standard-ones to standards but also things like: "&" to "and".
Any help appreciated!
Smile!
GerritI can think of two ways...
1 Find and replace (at the end) - enter "&" in the find, "and" in the replace and hit replace all
2 Use TextExpander from smileonmymac.com ... I use this for common text snippets in my dox, eg my website, name, email ... and I suppose I could use it to turn "dox" into "documents" and appear less lazy.
The only problem with textexpander is that it seems to change the text wherever (does that look right to you?) you are. I use an obvious character to indicate an abbreviation (eg I might use /me to indicate I want my name expanding here)

Frame 7.x: setting up HTML General Macros on Reference Page
Is there any documentation on how to create General Macros on the Frame reference page? The documentation says you can do it but I can't find anything about how.
Specifically I'd like it to output Marker text and other things.
I used WebWorks Publisher years ago but my memory's pretty rusty on it.

Greetings,
I am trying to utilize a macro which inserts a landscape page in my document. I am using a specific custom layout as per the headers and the footers on the document. The landscape page I wish to insert in the document should obtain the same headers and footers
and continue with the numbering. Unfortuantely, This macro inserts the landscape page however, It does it without the headers and footers and it also messes up the headers and footers for the page afterwards.
