MacScan software uninstall

I recently uninstalled MacScan after reading reviews & running out of disk space on my MacBook Air.  I just found two files that may have been left behind, but could they be from Apple?  Filenames are CookieBlacklist.plist and Spywaredefinitions.plist in folder called MacScan in Shared.  OK to delete?  Advice??

OK to delete?
Yes. Delete the entire MacScan folder and its contents.
MacScan's FAQ makes no mention of anything other than the app itself that needs to be deleted. Other components are almost certain to remain, but they are likely to be inert. Ensuring that all remnants are permanently eradicated is always a good idea for such ill-conceived useless junk. Avoid it and everything like it.

  • Oracle 11g software uninstall

    Hi Basis Expert,
We have done a oracle 11g (11.2.0.2) upgrade in our Mock system.
Can anybody tell me how to uninstall oracle 11g software in AIX 5.3.
I tried searching google but couldnt find it.
    Please help me.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Uninstalling all products from UNIX is a lot more consistent. If you do need to resort to a manual uninstall you should do something like:
Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
Stop any outstanding processes using the appropriate utilities.
    oemctl stop oms user/password
    agentctl stop
    lsnrctl stop
Alternatively you can kill them using the kill -9 pid command as the root user.
Delete the files and directories below the $ORACLE_HOME.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME
    rm -Rf *
With the exception of the product directory, delete directories below the $ORACLE_BASE.
    cd $ORACLE_BASE
rm -Rf admin doc jre o*
Delete the /etc/oratab file. If using 9iAS delete the /etc/emtab file also.
    rm /etc/oratab /etc/emtab

  • OS X 10.6 compatibility issues with hard and software, uninstall Snow Leo?

I installed Snow Leopard and now I can still print, but not scan. Also, none of my photo SD cards are recognized when inserted into the slot on the printer (HP Photosmart 7280). Since I use the computer for photos and can't import any photos to iPhoto any longer no matter what I do (my Nikon software doesn't work either and Nikon Transfer crashes when I try to get it to work), I think I'll need to uninstall OS X 10.6 until HP or Nikon finally catch up. Any pointers on how to accomplish this without ruining the whole system?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I've just trashed Safari and reinstalled it, fixed permissions and rebooted and I'm having the same problem.
The problem also exists still in Quicktime so I reinstalled iTunes and no diff.
I then tried creating a new user account and logging in but the problem persists...
I also checked to see if the file / command is located @ /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreLocation.framework/Versions/A/CoreLocation and it seems to be there, so not sure why it can't be referenced...
    Any other ideas?

  • Software Center Single Installed Software "Uninstall" greyed out

SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 installed across the board.
My software center has a single application that shows in the "Installed Software" tab.  This is what i expect to see.  However, the Uninstall button is not available.  If I look at the "Installation Status" tab, my

    expected.
My appication has a single deployment type.  Nothing special to it.  No requirements or dependancies.
    Any thoughts on this one?
I found a similar post here:

  • G85 software uninstall and reinstall

I am trying to uninstall defective G85 printer software to reinstall it from a CD or the web.  I get an error message that tells me uninstall when I use the CD but all prior software has been uninstalled.  When I use the HP web site I get to a screen that says hit next to troubleshoot the problem but that takes be back to where I started the process without solving the problem.  Has anyone got a clue to help me solve this?

I don't know anything about the application you mention but I would guess that it stores the data that you enter in a seperate area from the program files. So when you uninstall the application it just removes the program files but leaves the user data behind. Note that most of the time this is probably what you want (think of installing a new version of the application).
Anyway - I would guess that the files you want to remove are stored in your user area. Open a Finder window and look in the home directory or the Documents directory for any likely looking folders. Just be a little careful randomly deleting files in case you remove important files. A full backup before you start doing this is not a bad idea.

  • WRT54G Software Uninstall

    Hi all,

I would much appreciate help with getting the new router up and running.  Are there any problems that may exist upgrading to the EA3500?  I have so many devices connecting through the router noiw I figured it was time to upgrade.

Hi there. Like what sabertooth said, no need for you to run the software to get the old router off completely on the system of your computer. You can try the following:
    1. connect your main pc to your modem to see if you can get online and then run the cd that came along with the new router. Just follow the instructions specified on the cd. The software will allow you as well to set up a username (ssid) and password (preshared key).
    2. if ever, your computer does not work when plugged-in to the modem but gets online when old router is connected. Try the steps below: (applicable to DSL and Cable Internet Service Providers)
    for Cable ISPs:
    a. get the mac address of your old router (found at the bottom of the unit) or best get the mac address from the status page of your old router that means you have to access the user interface for that.
    b. if you're able to do step a then connect your new router. connect a computer to it as well. access the user interface of your new router. Default IP address of your old one and new one is the same which is 192.168.1.1. Default password for old router is admin not unless you changed it and as for the new one the router name and password are the same info that you need to enter when it prompts you for the info.
    c. on the new router's setup page, you click on mac address clone subtab and set it enable and enter the mac address from old router to where it says mac address. no need to click on the clone button but just save settings.
    d. you check the status tab and make sure that connection type is DHCP and see if you have internet ip address below it. Internet should work then if you have an internet ip address.
    for DSL ISPs:
This one depends on how your ISP configured your modem for internet connection.
If your modem is set to full bridge, you set the new router to PPPoE and input the account username and password below it (account username is the email they activated for your DSL internet service). Keep alive redial period should be selected and when you check the status page, connection type should say PPPoE and status should say connected and an internet IP address should be shown below it.

  • Why Can't I uninstall or repair Firefiox from Windows 7 control panel_ software uninstall, change ,repair

Firefox crashed and I have been unable to restart it. Sent Report by email to Firefox two weeks ago no response. At this point I want to uninstall first and then new install.

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows?
If you're running 32-bit Windows then you can probably ignore that step safely.
If 64-bit you could try creating the missing entry and give it the correct value.

  • IPod Touch skips, stutters, glitches through songs since software upgrade!

    Hi everyone,
*Since I upgraded my iPod Touch* to the latest available software update +(for the 1st Gen is 3.1.3)+, it has become *unable to properly play any music encoded above 128kbps*. Before the upgrade, my iPod could play music encoded in any higher bitrates like a champ! All the way to 320kbps, variable, even Apple Lossless format used to play flawlessly.
Suddenly after the last *firmware update*, most of the songs in my iPod Touch would *skip, glitch and garble, making electronic glitches and annoying noises* for no apparent reason. On occasion, the iPod would even *add several second of silence in the middle of random songs*. It's bizarre!
It definitely took me a while to figure it out, and spent weeks testing and researching what could be the problem. It was truly driving me nuts! The result of all these tests was clear: the *iPod Touch now CHOKES on any music file encoded higher than 128 kbps ACC*. Truly pathetic for such an expensive little jukebox. Even the early MP3 players I owned 10 years ago were able to play variable rate MP3 files without a glitch. *_This is a major bug that needs to be solved_*.
For those interested, I did the following tests through my weeks of research to find out the culprit to this problem:
    - - - Reinstalled the device software
    - - - Reformatted the device, then updated the software
    - - - Uninstalled all apps, reinstalled and tested my music after reinstalling each app
    - - - Disabled Wi-Fi (no difference)
    - - - Copied over my music library from scratch, several times (it was painful)
    - - - Reformatted a few albums in different bitrates, from 96kbps, all the way to 320kbps, both in constant and variable rates, and tested them one by one. This took days.
In the end, there is one thing that was consistently clear: *any songs encoded over 128kbps would skip, glitch and sound corrupted. Time after time*. All those music files I had encoded at higher rates +(192 kbps, variable 240 kbps and beyond)+ would make the iPod choke.
There is one temporary solution to this mess, but it involves reducing the quality of your music files: The only way I can now play my music collection in my iPod Touch without skips and glitches is by downconverting my files to the now *obsolete 128kbps*. Only when I converted my music to 128kbps, the annoying skips and glitches stopped. For an audiophile like myself, this was an absolutely painful decision, as I can tell the *obvious loss in quality and nuance in my music files since i had to downconvert them*.
Funny: this skipping problem *also affects any files purchased from iTunes* +(encoded at 240 kbps variable rate)+. Should I ask for my money back, Apple?
I find this irritating and painful, since *the ONE THING the iPod is supposed to do well* (aside from apps, games, and web browsing) *is to PLAY AUDIO AND MUSIC FILES*.
I spent a lot of money on this machine, and until recently it worked like magic; I just wished it played music again like it's supposed to. It's what the iPod was built to do. *Apple: Please fix the software!*
I wonder if there's a forum where I could post my detailed findings, so Apple engineers can take note of this *MAJOR BUG*.
PS: I have recently learned this is a very common bug, and tons of people are reaching out telling me they are experiencing the same annoying problems. Furthermore, *this seems to affect not just the 1st Gen, but ALL generations of the iPod Touch*. It's a *widespread software issue* that was not properly addressed in the latest software upgrade. I'm starting to worry about Apple's quality assurance process.

Hi everyone. Thanks to a tip in another forum, I think I had a breakthrough regarding this problem. I have the strong suspicion it's not the software for the iPod Touch, but instead, the problem comes from *iTunes and how it handles USB 2.0 transfers*.
To make a long story short, all your *music that's encoded above 128 kbps gets corrupted when you transfer it to your Touch from iTunes through your USB 2.0 connection*. That's where the problem is!
    I performed this simple test:
    *PART 1 - WIFI*
    - I connected my iPod Touch via Wi-Fi to the iTunes Store. Bought an album encoded at a very high bitrate (Coldplay's "Viva la Vida", encoded at 256KBPS).
    - Downloaded the Coldplay album directly to my iPod Touch via Wi-Fi.
    - Tested every song in the album, and they all played flawlessly.
    *PART 2 - USB 2.0*
    - Now, I erased the Coldplay album from my iPod Touch.
    - Connected my iPod Touch to my computer, and downloaded the album again via iTunes. I copied the very same album to my iPod Touch, this time using the USB 2.0 connection.
    - I tested every song in the album. Guess what: most of them are corrupted, skipping, glitching, making garbled noises.
I think a reached a minor "eureka" moment. *It's not the iPod Touch software: It's iTunes, and how iTunes deals with your USB 2.0 connection*.
Now, I'm not an engineer, and I don't know how to fix this problem. I wonder if there's anyone out there there that knows why high bitrate files get corrupted during the file transfer. Hope anyone can shed some additional light on this issue, so we can find a solution.

  • Satellite A660 - 3D DVD software runs out of date or is secretly altered

Whats going on; why do I get lynched to pay an additional $59 for software to make my Satellite 3D work?
    Ok.
This probably sounds nuts; but my Toshiba Blu-Ray DVD software seems to have a DVD/Blu-ray prevention program in it. Preventing 3D and smaller issues.
It has been out of whack since I updated the software on the Toshiba site and when I updated the nVidia GTS 350M drivers.
That may be co-incidental to the problems which began in previous month/s; as I don`t always play discs on this laptop; so pinning a date when it went pear-shaped is harder.
But, after going through a nightmare (of not working on DVD or Blu-Ray on half my discs for months now); I installed the latest TRIAL ($59) Corel WinDVD 11 Pro player and everything (including 3D) works perfect again. But for 30 days only; until/unless I`m robbed of $59 additional that is.
    The problem is/was;-
3D only worked on half of my Blu-Ray 3D discs using pre-installed (and later updated) Toshiba COREL WinDVD media PLAYER. Sometimes it only played 3D side by side; 2 images. No 3D. Some Blu-Ray 3D discs were fine ODDLY. Region code not an issue.
Toshiba DVD 3D player/upconvertor program was the worst (not the SD version, I dont use).
Toshiba (HD) 3D player would not recognise half of my Blu-ray 3D laptop disc drive content. "DVD drive not recognised" error message.
Toshiba DVD player itself would not upconvert any normal DVD to 3D.
Toshiba DVD player would only play NORMAL 2D when running upconvert (no 3D).
Toshiba DVD player would only play HALF-SPEED DVD when upconvert was disabled. When trying to play a DVD in normal 2D mode.
All settings were tried and altered to fix the problem around a thousand times.
Software uninstalled and re-booted and re-installed a dozen times each.
I also had to un-install the software and re-boot and re-install the following;-
nVidia graphics driver (from nVidia sites own 295.73 and re-install Update to the `older` nVidia Toshiba 260.51 driver).
I used to be able to upconvert DVDs to 3D using this laptop; so it did work many months ago; but now that has all stopped for months now.
Its a pain as I have un-installed everything and re-installed all the relevant software from the Toshiba home page; but no solution for the problem without getting mugged an extra $59.
I hate computers for the ten-thousandth time.
    1 minute Ramble:-
Its the last Microsoft product I will ever buy (Windows Ultimate rubbish [had to buy a new A3 color lazer printer as no Win 7 drivers for my existing laser printer]).
SAMSUNG (3D internet TV) products from now on. No computers for ten years. Until the rats get it right and stop experimenting on my wallet. $10,000 on PC products in the past 5 years and still being able to do simple things like watch a 3D movie is a hit and miss affair.
I`m rambling....because a hundred hours reading on how to get it working again has scrambled my head.
    Spec
    Toshiba A660 3D laptop. Satellite.
    Windows 7 Ultimate. Updated.
    Intel i7 1.73Ghz
    Graphics is GTS 350M
4GB Ram (8-gig upgrade on order)
    Spare 550GB hard-drive space.
    Toshiba site; Bios updated.
Toshiba own DVD 3D player (doesn't cut the mustard) Version 4.00.1.08
Toshiba Corel WinDVD 3D player (doesn't cut the mustard) Version 10.0.5.822
The Nvidia graphics always works fine on the test background page; which makes me think software; but all the relavant software has been updated. Re-installed and re-tried a hundred times with different settings.
I thought the discs were the problem. But 50 DVDs not working in 3D up-converting, or faulty all by themselves? And half of my 3D Blu-Ray collection?
I wondered if these these problems are deeper than this one system. Whether there was a systemic problem somewhere (besides blaming the buyer end-user).
Toshiba assist line in one call was a guy who knew far less than me and had to ask someone advice for every single part of the call. 2 hours to tell me to re-install the software in a long, slow, bit-by-bit way, eventually. We done everything they can do to help. Now they seem to blame the discs and don`t have any answer.
Microsoft x64 Ultimate says its roger all to do with them on their helpline/e-mail assist.
    I tried nVidia to no avail;
Any ideas; do I bite the bullet and everyone eventually be forced bit by bit to pay for $59 software to get the thing working.
    Whats the beef?

    Hi
You wrote really long story :) anyway this is an user to user community Im not sure if I could clarify all these issue for you but I would try to share my knowledge with you.
But firstly it would be really interesting to know what Satellite A660-xxx do you have exactly?
You said that you have installed the Win 7 ultimate.
According to the Toshiba page the notebook was preinstalled with Windows Home Premium. The preinstalled WinDVD was a full version (not trial) and you have not to pay for this software. In my case I have not to pay for any software (except MS Office :) )
    you said also:
    > I installed the latest TRIAL ($59) Corel WinDVD 11 Pro player and everything (including 3D) works perfect again. But for 30 days only; until/unless I`m robbed of $59 additional that is.
So it seems that you dont use the preinstalled Win DVD but you have installed other version which was not preinstalledso you have to purchase such version if you want to use a full version of any software which is not part of Toshiba image.

  • I cannot install either iTunes 10.5 or QuickTime 7.7 after having removed the previous installation of both softwares from my Win 7 64 bits.

Hi folks. I hope someone can help me out.
I had iTunes 10.4 and QuickTime Player 7.7 running pretty well on my notebook (a Dell Vostro 3550 with Win 7 Pro 64-bits) and followed many of the pieces of advice on how to upgrade to iTunes 10.5, including uninstalling all Apple software from my computer and trying to install them again from the very beginning.
First, I tried to uninstall/remove all Apple Softwares as suggested on the post http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923. But I was not able to remove the Apple softwares through ContolPanel -> Software -> Uninstall/Repair/Remove. The softwares removal stops due to "lack" of  Admin access permission to certain keys in Windows registry: xxx/Unistaller/Media, etc. I got this message trying to remove iTunes, QuickTime, AppleSoftwareUpdate, AppleMobileDeviceSupport. I can assure you that I do have Admin privileges on my notebook and I also shut down any protection tool (Win Firewall, Norton 350, etc.) that might be running during the softwares removal. None of the solutions seemed to work, but I could recover my previous installation of iTunes 10.4 and QuickTime 7.7 and got them running just fine.
Then I tried to uninstall iTunes and QuickTime using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and the Fix It Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) as also suggested on one of the many posts I have read in Apple Communities. The softwares were all removed, however, even by getting the new installation packages of iTunes 10.5 and QuickTime 7.7 from Apple's web sute, I can't install any of them. I tried to do it with previous versions too, but nothing seems to work. And now, I can't even recover my previous installations of iTunes and QuickTime. I simply cannot have iTunes installed on my notebook.
It seems the only way to sort it out is reinstalling Win 7 and all other applications I have from the very beginning, which is a nightmare and will take days.
Any suggestions? I couldn't have any info from Apple Tech Support untill now.

what if they are turned off?  I cannot install iTunes or QuickTime Pro 7 on my WIN7/64 Lenovo W520. ran all the repair cycles uninstalls, reinstalls about 10X each, no luck

Removing strange software can be a task.  The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item.  Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall.  Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software.  This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon.  After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon.  Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.

  • Client Security Software /. Password Manager / Windows Authentication

I have a T61 w/ XP Pro SP3 installed w/ all current patches & updates installed, Client Security Software v 8.21.006.00 installed, ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software v5.8.4.5476 & the most current BIOS updates installed. I am having a problem with the Client Security Software.
The CSS/Password Manager software is supposed to hold all of my passwords and authenticate me as I access webpages that require an account & password for access. When the software is working correctly, the Client Security Software / Password Manager package is supposed to drop into the system tray in the bottom right corner of windows...pretty much running as a service.
After I login to Windows, the Client Security software starts up, I am prompted for my fingerprint (or password, either appears to work)...which then is supposed to authenticate to my Windows password. I have set my windows password and machine local password to using the same password.
The CSS/Password Manager software then appears to authenticate. I then get the Password Manager application "splash" screen and the Password Manager application opens. The application window appears to be correct and offers several different password options (just like it is supposed to). When I close the Application window, the application icon is in the system tray, running like a service. The Password Manager application window is hiding the small application "splash" screen. When I click "ok" on the application splash screen, the Password Manager "splash" screen disappears AND the Password Manager application icon disappears from the system tray...shutting down the functionality of the application.
When I talked to Lenovo Support, they said,
    uninstall the Client Security Software,
    uninstall the Fingerprint Reader software,
    reboot the laptop
press F1 to go into the BIOS
    disable the security chip
clear out / delete cached fingerprints
F10 & yes to save changes
    reboot
    login to windows
reinstall each application (do not enable the security chip)
    reboot
Register / enroll fingerprints as required.
Logout/login and at the CSS screen enter the Windows password.
Problem still exists as described above...
I also did this complete process all over again AND DID enable the security chip.
Prpblem still exists as described above
I have done everything they said to do and still the applications do not function correctly.
Can anyone give me some help here?
    Thanks
    Cliff

you are lucky, mine hasn't ever worked before. It makes the whole thing useless
