Magsafe Cable Keeps Fraying/ Splitting

My Magsafe was replaced on apple care and has since broken. My apple care has also expired. Do replaced parts also come with a separate one years warranty? Would apple replace the faulty magsafe, since their replacement has the same problem?
Also, I'm unsure of how to actually contact apple, every time I call them they tell me there is a £50 fee for calling.
I am certainly not paying that.
I live miles from an apple store.... how on earth can you reach these people!?

Look at the very bottom of this article under "additional information" on how to proceed.

If the cable that came with it went bad with in a year, it's still under warranty. Have it replaced.

  • Charging cable keeps breaking.

My charging cable keeps breaking and twisting at the part underneath the bit that goes into the iPhone. Is there any way I can stop this from happening?

Never break?  You must never move it!!!!  Apple has made these cables so cheaply and the iPhones with such quality.  I bet if Steve Jobs was still alive he would be ashamed the way his company was handling this piddly problem.
BTW, both my wife and I handle our cables carefully to make sure they do not twist or curl.  What ever Rudgegar is doing must be leaving his phone in one position always.  It's plastic, Rudegar and eventually will break unless it is designed properly.
I have friends that have breakage problems at the connector that goes into the phone.  Even Dog the Bounty Hunter uses iPhones and made an off handed comment about their cable breaking and being cheap.  Would love to share that sound bite with Apple.  Maybe they wouldn't be raping us for $30.00 a pop.
Apple - is this a scheme to get more money out of us.  Aren't you rich already????  Don't do  this to the working and middle class and the poor!   Shame on Apple!

  • The ethernet cable keeps slipping out of its slot

I have a G72 notebook. the ethernet cable keeps slipping out of notebook's slot. It began infrequently, then often and now I have to hold it in or I can't get on intyernet. What a crawl! when I called tech  I was told by tech to buy another cable. I've bought 2 more & same problem. What must I do to get my notebook back? thanks mucho

    Hi,
You bought 2 new cables and still have the problem, the only thing I can think of is the LAN port itself. Do you have friends, relatives ...just bring those cables and plug to their machines to see, and also physically check the LAN ports to see any difference.
    Regards.

  • Out of warranty MBP ,Burned Magsafe port and frayed charger cable Replacement option and cost?

I have a MBP 15" 2011 model and This is the burned magsafe port (leftmost pin melted) which i noticed today.
The connector gets too hot sometimes ( but remains ok when i charge in sleep mode). Simetimes the charging will stop and LED will become green and then I reconnect it to get it in charging mode.
The Frayed cable: very light cut at connector side and heavily frayed at brick as shown.
So what should I do now and how much would it cost to repair this? Should i buy a new charger?
Also I live at a place where there is no Apple Service Center (nearest one is 300 km away). So, can I use these things as they are for 2 weeks ie by charging in sleep mode or when the port doesn't get hot while charging.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 may help you.
Replacement phones do not start a new one year warranty. The warranty still expires one year from the date the original phone was purchased.

  • Iphone charging cable keeps breaking

The charging cable for my Iphone 5 keeps breaking, I have purchased 3 in the last few months. My phone is plugged in to charge on a small table, the cable is not stretched or pulled in anyway. I have just been on to the apple store to order a new one and have seen the reviews on these cables, they are shocking with everyone complaining about them breaking constantly. These cables are not cheap at £15 a time. I would like to know if apple are actually addressing this serious flaw in their product, if you get a warranty with these cables or if anybody knows of another company that sell knock offs of these that are actually better quality than what apple offer its customers? I am seriously doubting apples customer care regarding the amount of bad reviews on this product.

You are really confused Peter Gillespie.
    I replied to you that
"I took mine to the Apple store and they refused to replace it saying I had not been careful keeping it straight when charging whilst it was still under warranty.
The product I have mentioned protects the cable whilst still retaining its flexibility.
Anyway, it has worked for 4 members of my family so far and we have had them over 6 months and one of the chargers in question does have a split and stll works after using the product"
This reply was in response to your comment below:
"If less than 12 months old then it is under warranty ,unless Apple bellieve it is user abuse rather than a manufacuring issue that caused the "failure""
My reply was not, as you incorrectly imply, to your earlier post where you stated:
"The strange thing is that as stated hundreds of millions of users have no issues with the cables
Yet clearly some users do have an issue ,time and time again ......................now what does that tell you ?"
I never replied "strangely", it appears you have a serious misunderstanding of the flow of this thread and it is clear you are making a lame attempt to be the hero.
I simply highlighted a product which has served it purpose and that is all. I am not into lying about who said what to whom because it is very clear to see for those who understand.

  • My power cord keeps fraying, what is the fix?

I have taped it up and thought that would be the end of the problem, but now it is fraying beside the area I taped. What is up with this? I feel Apple should replace this cord on my two year old computer even though it is off warranty.

I am about to have to get my THIRD cord for my mac because of this problem.  It's disappointing that this continues to happen.  Totally crap cords.  And no, I don't abuse my cords or step on them or let the dogs chew them etc etc.  It's shoddy.  And yeah...I have to use the electrical tape on mine too and it just keeps going.

  • Why do the cables keep breaking at the same spot?

i have spent soooooo much money on apples charging cables and have even looked into how can I avoid this from happening, but have now gone through 3 cables in the past year because they keep breaking right after the step down from the input into the phone part

So when you returned the cables under warranty, the Apple genius bar  rejected a warranty claim .....because ???

  • Having trouble syncing with my new iPhone cable, keeps crashing and saying that the device cannot be found

The iTunes sync keeps crashing and saying that the device cannot be found. I have bought a new cable recently off eBay and it manages to charge my iPhone when I plug it into my macbook but its not allowing me to sync or import pictures.

  • MagSafe cable delaminating

    MagSafe cord is delaminating

call for appt and verify.   Its not equipment failure as would be naturally seen.
but contact them for appt. and find out and see if they replace it for you.
only other option some people with oily hands (lotions etc , baby oil) hand the cable and oil rots rubber, but that takes a lot.
its chemical breakdown of the rubber from:
    heat
    ozone
    oils
take your pick of those three.

  • Why do my charger cables keep giving out after like three months?

I've had my phone a year and I've gotten the cord replaced like three times. It's always the part by the part that plugs into my phone that gets all twisted and such and then they cord gets glitchy and then it stops working. Is this happening to anyone else or am I just not careful enough with my cords or something?

You are not alone.  My wife has had her iPhone 5 for jsut a year now and I have had to go to the Apple store to get 5 or 6 cables replaced for her.  I've had my iPhone 5 for about 15 months (3 months longer than her) and I am still using my original cable.  The cable does not hold up to hard bending right where the cable extis the connector.  I don't bend my there and I have no problems.  I see my wife laying in bed with the cable pressing against her chest bending the cable 90 degrees right out of the connector.  Not surprising to me, I have had to treplace that cable 3 times in the last year...

  • Aren't melted magsafe cables waranty replaceable?

I have a melted cable and I have to bend it to make the thing work now and charge the macbook, but when I went to waranty, they said I cut it with scissors and after that it melted. What kind of explanation is that? The computer is still under waranty and it seems to be, that this is a safety hazard, but they still say I abused the cable (like I am someone, who would cut a power adapter of a $2000 laptop - maxed out macbook). This is just ridiculous: if I pay that kind of money for hardware I expect it to work and if it doesn't it has to be repaired, but instead I now have to pay even more for a replacement adapter and wait for 2 weeks until it arrives (I live in the Baltics, so that's the price of my location).
My question is should it or should it not be changed by waranty? If it should and they didn't I now need to find another apple dealer or just quit it.

Thanks for confirming, that it should be replaced. I read the posts here on this issue, the difference with me is that it has melted on the other side of the thin cable (close to the white box, not the macbook itself), but it's still a melting issue.
I also checked and it turns out this company is the official distributor of apple here, others are only resellers. I seriously doubt, that resellers are going to bother with supporting products sold by another company.
The only option would be to try and call apple support directly.
Pity if this doesn't get clarified, I was thinking of getting the new iMac and replacing my Windows desktops, but if I will get support which is in denial over an obvious issue with it, then I'll think twice. I was truly amazed actually that the adapter broke (I was thinking the HDD or the super drive are the most obvious candidates for breaking), as I had PCs and laptops for 7 years and nothing broke...ever, I even have a 2GB IDE drive at home, which is still working. In fact, the only electronics gadget that I brought into warranty in the last 5 years or so was the xbox360 (for obvious problems with overheating), which was replaced no questions asked.
Anyway, thanks, I hope warranty is better in other countries, because support/warranty can kill the company (there are examples). Hope I get it sorted out.

  • DSL cable keeps falling out of Openreach modem

I'm having an issue where the DSL cable doesn't "click" when I put it in, so the slightest pull or bump and the cable falls out and I lose my connection. I have had to sellotape the cable into the port just to stop it falling out all the time. I'm guessing this isn't a design flaw and my port is just busted, right? And would BT replace the modem for free?

    Hi there,
I think the issue you're having is that the retaining clip on the rj-11 connector has snapped off, hence the reason that it doesn't click into place. I've had this a couple of times with rj-45 (ethernet) cables in the past.
If I were you, I'd check your rj-11 lead to see if my suspicions are correct and if they are, then I'd go to that well-known auction site and do a search for rj-11 to rj-11 cables in the length you require.
    I hope this info helps.

  • Ethernet cable keeps popping out of socket.

I posted this on another forum, not having seen this one which I hope is more relevant. My thick yellow Ethernet cable won't stay in and it is driving me mad. Where does the fault lie? Is it just a problem with these cables you have to put up with.

    Hi,
Ethernet cables have a little sprung clip on the end. Perhaps yours has broken off.
Probably a new cable will fix it.
    Merry Christmas from England,
    alan

  • Lightning cables keep breaking

My 3rd lightning cable just stopped working. The same thing happened to my last one. It worked for about 3 months and then just stopped working. It would charge my iPod, but only if it was completely off. I could live with having to turn it off every time I have to charge it, but it doesn't work when I try to sync it with my laptop. Windows just says it's an unknown device and itunes doesn't recognize it. I went to get a new one but this time it only lasted less than a week. I don't have a warranty and I don't want to have to get a new one every time it breaks.

What are yo dong to the cable?
I have been using the same (one cable) for both my iPad 4 and 7G iPod Nano for the last 23 months without problems.
