To block receiving mail from few people, you can achive this by settimg up channel wide filters, or by mapping file.
To move messages from inbox to user created folder use mboxutil.

  • Mail Junk Folder Problem

My junk mail folder says that there are 1953 messages in it but when I click on it there is nothing there. The count for my regular mail works just fine and I can see my regular mail just fine as well. I can also throw away and delete mail from my normal mailbox with no problems.
How do I reset the Junk Mail folder so that it displays and deletes properly?
I have tried to "erase junk mail" and also "erase deleted messages" but nothing happens. I have also tried to delete the Mail folder from my Caches within my Library and also the Envelope Index from the Mail folder within my Library.
Does this sound like a familiar issue?

Hi BC Dezign, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this a POP or IMAP account?
Did you do these exact steps?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Mail folder problem

I just encountered a problem, where I changed the name of a mail sub-folder, thereby loosing all contained e-mails in the folder. This is obviously a problem in Mail.
OK, I moved up one step to the parent folder, entered time machine, went back a couple of hours and found my lost e-mails. Marked them (about ten e-mails in all) and hit restore.
Then everything froze, dead. Could not find any better idea than power off.

One thing that may help is to go to Mail Preferences, Accounts, and in your account under the Advanced tab select the check box for "Prompt me to skip messages over xxx kB" (where you indicate how many kB). This can reduce the download times by factors of 2 to 4 or more, depending on the size of the attachments.
I think the more specific control you are looking for that is analogous to what you can do on the iPhone and iPad might not be available on the computer versions of Mail.
Edit added: I just noticed that the above option is only available for POP accounts, but not for Exchange (IMAP) accounts, so unfortunately it may not apply to your account.

  • Apple mail blocking my personal email

From last night, every email that I send or forward to my icloud account from my personal mail account is getting blocked as spam.
Has anyone else had this problem? My personal account is with QiQ (UK).
I have been using my icloud address for over a year to successfully receive notifications from my NAS that my backup was successful.
    Not any more... :-)

The problem is likely this file...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
If you need to save any eMails in that account, then...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

  • Mail and iPhoto Problems with sending photos.

Mail and iPhoto Problems with sending photos.
I have this problem that started a while ago and seems to be getting worse.
    Here are the different scenarios.
-If I try to share a photo to email within iPhoto, it will insert the image file name in the mail message, but no image icon or opened image. In iPhoto Preferences under General I have chosen to use Email Photos using Mail.
-If I choose to use iPhoto to send the photo, it will compose the message and the photo is viewable. If I send the message i can view the photo within the email I sent to myself. Nothing happens when I double click on the photo in the Mail message. Nothing happens when i control click on the photo in the mail message. Nothing happens when I try to drag the photo to the desktop from the mail message. When I try to save attachments from the email and choose a place to save it, the save button is grayed out and it cannot be saved. When I check the mail message it says there is an attachemnt but there is no file size listed.
-If I use the stationary within Mail app I cannot drag a photo into the placeholder, I get a circle with a line through it symbol when I try. It happens if I try to drag a photo from the desktop or from the media browser within Mail app.
-If I drag the photo to the desktop from iPhoto, I can double click it on the desktop and it will open in Preview.
-If I then control click on the same photo on the desktop and scroll to share/email, the generic photo icon will be inserted in the mail message. If i double click the photo icon in the mail message  I get a message it can't be opened because it is empty.
-If I drag that same image to the mail message body the same thing happens.
-If I send that email to someone they cannot open the image file.
    What I can do:
    - I can drag that same image file on the desktop to my dropbox folder and  it will upload. From there I can go on my iPad and download the photo and send it through email just fine.
-I can open the same image file on my desktop in Preview, I can copy and paste it into a mail message and the image will be viewable in the mail message by me and by the recipient.
-I can drag that same image on the desktop to my safari browser window and it will be viewable in the page. i can then copy and paste that image into a mail message and it is viewable in the message.  I can then send that email message to myself and i can control click on the image and get all my options. It also shows as an attachment with the size of the image file in the mail message.
I can send that message to someone and they can see the photo and open it fine.
-If I send that same email to me I can see the photo within the mail.  If I then drag that photo to the desktop I cannot use it again to put in an email as the same problem happens again.
I have tried all scenarios in my user account, another users account and in a guest account. The same happens in all. I am guessing because of this it is not a corrupt preference file, unless all of the preference files are corrupt. The guest user account I added a new email account so it was brand new and still had the problem.
I am stumped, all and any help is appreciated.

Another problem that may be related….
I have Snapz Pro. I used to be able to save the snaps to my desktop or a folder. Now when I take a screenshot and try to save the file to my desktop or a folder on my desktop I get this message  "Files cannot be created in the selected location. You do not have permission to write to the selected location.   Please choose a different location."  I have found that i can only save the file to the clipboard.   I have repaired permissions many times and still I have this problem.

  • Apple mail junk folder old mail

My apple mail junk folder keeps filling up with old mail that i have deleted.  How can I stop it.

I agree with Satchmo.  Apple Mail's Junk Filter is a joke and has never worked.  I never had problems managing spam when using Eudora until I switch to Tiger Mail.  Since then, it moves good mail to junk, and even the most obvious junk stays in my inbox.  Every day for years now I have had to manually review all 1,000 emails of my daily emails to correctly ID spam.
And, it must be done each and every time email is retrieved because I tie delete from server to moving from in box.  If Mail has a false Junk, if I don't move it back to In Box right away, it is deleted from server on next check.
You can't train it.  I've been clicking "Junk" on the crap for years and still comes to my In Box.  I've reset training at least a dozen times, but it never works.
I predict Apple will never fix this.

  • Mail Archive Folder

Ok, about a week after installing Mavericks, Mail has decided to move ALL of my incoming mail into a special folder called "Archive". I am not sure if this folder existed before, but it is making Mail basically unusable for me. I have no rules set up in Mail or on any of my gmial accounts.
    Help.

An update to Mail was released yesterday that may improve compatibility with Gmail.
Gmail is an intentionally broken implementation of IMAP that often causes problems with Mail. The problem seems to have gotten worse in Mavericks. My recommendation is either not to use Gmail at all, or to access it through the website. You may also get better results from another email client.

  • Mails block POP-transfer

I'm having a problem with some "special" mails. Some mails block my mail client. The mails are generated by a worm called "sober". When I select a mailbox and click "info" I see the mails with an empty subject and empty sender. If there is at least one of those mails on the server - any mail client on the Mac refuses to download any mails from the server. I tried not only Apple-Mail, but also Eudora. When I access the server from a Windows machine it is no problem to retrieve the mails.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Detlef

    Hello Detlef.
Although I haven't experienced the same yet, I've seen something similiar reported regarding certain spam messages that contain unusual HTML formatting that prevent all valid messages from being downloaded that were received at the server after the problem message but this is the first time I've seen a report regarding "ghost" emails with an empty subject and sender not being downloaded by the Mail.app and preventing valid messages from being downloaded.
Most ask how to deal with these "ghost" messages after being downloaded by the Mail.app since these messages cause problems for the Junk Mail filter.
How do you know these "ghost" messages are generated by the sober worm? If so, these messages probably contain an attachment infected with the sober worm.

  • Apple Mail blocks Charter email, which blocks Apple mail

I am running 10.6.8 on a 2008 Mac Pro. I was using MS Entourage as my email program. I want to upgrade to Lion/Mtn Lion, but my old MS Entourage or other Office programs won't work on that, so I decided to start using Apple Mail (version 4.6)
I get my email thru my ISP, Charter.net,
When Apple Mail is OPEN it will not connect to Charter email, and Charter email will not display or recieve or send any email, nor will Entourage (POP) or a MS Outlook (trial version). Apple Mail says it "cannot connect to the IMAP server," and it "cannot connect to the SMTP server."
I have set up Apple Mail correctly according to Charter: IMAP port 143, SMTP port 25, no SSL etc (default email reader Entourage, but I've tried Mail, Outlook, etc. …no change in my problem)
When I quit Apple Mail, the others will immediately access/send emails.
The problem seems to be that for some reason Apple Mail blocks Charter mail from connecting, but since that is where I get my email, Apple Mail is blocking itself, Entourage and Outlook from connecting to the IMAP/SMTP servers, therefore no mail service.
The strange thing is that now and again Apple Mail WILL connect—briefly—and mail will come in/go out, but then drops offline again.
I've been on the phone with Charter for a couple hours and had a service tech here this morning for an hour, but everyone is stumped. Of course none of them are very Mac-savvy, so that doesn't help.
    Can any of you help?

I've been having exactly the same trouble with my Charter E-mail Accounts.
I first use two of my existing Charter E-mail Accounts (which I have never used in years!). Set them up in Apple Mail (Snow Leopard 10.6.8, on my MacPro 4.1) as POP Accounts!
They did work sometimes, but now I can only receive mail.
Set up a new Charter E-mail Account, and used that to Set Up in Apple Mail as IMAP Account. It does NOT work at all, period, either way.
I've been on the phone with Charter Tech Support many, many, many times, for many hours, but nobody has a clue. They tell me to check their webpage for Set Up, which I don't need because I've been through the Set-up Procedure so many times already.
Then they tell me to call Apple Tech Support, which I cannot afford.
So, now I'm back to using my old DreamHost E-mail Accounts, which work just fine, after their Tech Support helped me to resolve some issues. They had me open Terminal, then Keychain. I tried all three Keychain Methods, which resolved the issues with DreamHost E-mail.
I'm going to try setting up my G-mail Account in Apple Mail and see what happens .....

  • Javax.mail.FolderNotFoundException: folder INBOX not found

    Hi
I have a simple program called simpleread.java. I have javamail, JAF and javamaildir installed.
Now I know that I am not providing more details and I can post more details. I am very apologetic about this. However I wanted to know if the error I have is kind of general.
So I am posting the following error:
Exception in thread "main" javax.mail.FolderNotFoundException. folder 'INBOX" not found
    =======
    thanks in advance
    I will provide details gladly

Sounds like a problem with the way javamaildir is configured,
or the way you're using it. You might want to talk to the
    javamaildir experts.

  • Attachments in Mail Downloads folder

I found a folder Home>Library>Mail Downloads which was loaded with about every attachment I have ever received using Mail. I was trying to figure out why. In Mail prefs, there is an option to select a folder, I have chosen Home>Downloads pretty much which is also default for my browser. The action is set to remove unedited copies when message is deleted. I'm confused because it looks like the Destination and Action are independent. When I have an attachment, if I click "Save" it populates the selected path to the "Downloads" folder. If I open that attachment, it seems to populate the Home>Library>Mail folder.
What controls the opened attachments form populating this, somewhat, obscure folder?

    Hi,
Attachments to messages are actually stored in the mailbox along with the message text. It is when an attachment must be opened with another application, such as a Word document with Word, that the attachment is also placed in the Mail Downloads folder. There it can be used and edited by the application used to open it, and from there can be returned as edited to the sender or to others.
There is no reason files must permanently stay, but if you edit or otherwise alter files that have been attached, then you must elect some place to keep them for your own use.
You will note that in the Mail Preferences/General there is also a selection regarding when to remove files from Downloads folder if not edited. Any file that is not edited need not remain in the Downloads folder since it already exists in the mailbox with the message it came attached to.
Image files, since they can be opened directly in the Mail window, by Mail, do not go into the Downloads folder, but if any were opened from the message, with say, Photoshop, then that image file would also be sent to the Downloads, temporarily.

  • Quick Look copies attachments to Mail Downloads folder!

Holy maloly, I just discovered why my MacBook Pro was slowly losing disk space! Every time I use Quick Look to check an attachment in Mail, a copy of the attachment is placed in the Mail Downloads folder of my user Library. My writing work entails quickly looking at lots of very large attachments and e-mailing estimates to clients. Quick Look has been a great time saver for this. Nice being able to stay in Mail and not have to open Word to examine the job. But I don't need all these additional copies taking up space on my hard drive. As far as I know, Mail is the only program that does this.
Is there any way of telling Quick Look to NOT make copies of Mail attachments?
    Thanks!

  • Changing "Mail Downloads" folder for attachments

It seems in Leopard Mail, when you double click an attachment to open it, it is temporarily saved to ~/Library/Mail Downloads. This is in contrast to (I think) Tiger, where it would be saved to the Downloads folder set in the General preferences. There is still a setting for the Downloads folder in the General preferences, and according to the help window, it is to "Specify the folder in which to temporarily save attachments you open from a message". To me, that means the same as the Tiger behavior. However, if I change this preference to, say, "Desktop", it seems opening an attachment (not explicitly saving it) still saves it to the ~/Library/Mail Downloads folder, not the assigned folder. Is this the correct behavior? If so, the help window is misleading. Personally, I would like the option to change this folder, although I suppose there are workarounds such as changing the Mail Downloads folder to an alias of the desired destination folder.
    thanks.

Ok, so much for that clever workaround. Doesn't work, Mail just throws up an error and refuses to save the attachment. Any other ideas? I just want Mail to auto-save opened attachments onto the Desktop, in case I forget to explicitly save it, and so I don't have to root into subfolders to find it.

  • How to (successfully) change Mail Downloads folder?

    Hi,
I've been trying to wrestle with my Mail Downloads folder location without success, so I thought I would ask.
I dislike having a separate "Mail Downloads" folder because stuff accumulates endlessly there. The default Mail Downloads is at ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. Here's what I have tried:
The obvious: change "Downloads folder" in Mail prefs. No matter what I choose, the files are still downloaded to the default folder.
I removed ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads and made it a symlink to my ~/Downloads folder (where I'd like to put everything). This causes opening attachments from Mail to hang (I have to save them first, and then open from the saved location). I get these messages in Console (in this example, trying to open an attachment named "Manual.pdf", and PID 56818 is the Mail app):
9/13/12 11:52:29.707 AM CoreServicesUIAgent[56818]: Quarantine resolution refused to pid 56809 because it is not allowed to read /Users/a10022/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads/Manual.pdf

    9/13/12 11:52:30.238 AM sandboxd[56817]: ([56809]) Mail(56809) deny file-issue-extension /Users/a10022/Downloads/Manual.pdf
    9/13/12 11:52:30.253 AM sandboxd[56817]: ([56809]) Mail(56809) deny file-issue-extension /Users/a10022/Downloads/Manual.pdf
Any thoughts? The symlink trick was working fine in Lion and before, the trouble started with the upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Thanks,
    --Diego

    Hi,
I have spent quit some time on this and there is no decent option to do so. Mail is a buggy product since it ignores the default preferences. Old tricks with the symbolic link don't work. Most likely because Apple wants you to look at all the nice inline attachments in stead of treating them as a real attachment. Just like they do in their commercials.
I found some posts on how to move it to another disk but that was not my goal. So in the end, there was only one option left for me and that is to just make it a faourite folder in my finder so I can at least review it daily to clean it up.
Sorry for not having a desent fix but this works for me.
    Good luck!
