Mail in queue stuck until another message is sent

Hi all,
I have postfix running nicely. However periodically a message get stuck in the mail queue and does not get sent until:
1) the mail service is restarted
2) another message is sent and this seems to ‘flush’ it out.
Is there a configuration option to get this mail flushed out automatically?
Many thanks

I have postfix running nicely. However periodically a
message get stuck in the mail queue and does not get
sent until:
1) the mail service is restarted
2) another message is sent and this seems to ‘flush’
it out.
I am having the exact same problem. Here are the steps I've taken so far:
1) Edited /etc/hostconfig to enable the postfix daemon: MAILSERVER=-YES- (was MAILSERVER=-AUTOMATIC-)
2) Edited /etc/postfix/master.cf to set a wakeup time of 60 seconds for the pickup and qmgr services
3) Enabled verbose logging by adding a '-vvv' flag in master.cf after pickup, cleanup, qmgr, flush, smtp, relay, showq, error, local, and lmtp.
4) Enabled verbose by adding a '-vvv' flag in /System/Library/StartupItems/Postfix/Postfix, resulting in "/usr/sbin/postfix -vvv start"
5) Restarted postfix using "postfix stop; postfix -vvv start" as root
I am using the "sendmail" program from a CGI script to send email. The message goes into the maildrop directory and sometimes it is delivered, but other times it is stuck in the queue for an unbounded length of time (not until another message is submitted or postfix is restarted).
This looks identical to the complaints on the thread below, but I'd rather not have to compile and replace postfix to fix this problem:
http://groups.google.com/group/list.postfix.users/browse_thread/thread/26eb7a0ef b126bb5/fa38a2da8786e668?tvc=2&q=osx+queue#fa38a2da8786e668
It appears that sendmail (and/or postdrop) is not reliably signaling the pickup daemon and the periodic wakeup is not causing pickup to scan the maildrop directory.
I have tons of logs, but I don't want to post it all here. Please let me know what would be relevant and I will post.
Thanks in advance.

  • Mail activity seemingly stuck on incoming messages

On my Mac at work, My Mail Activity 'window' (the new one under the Mailbox list) continually shows "Incoming Messages", with a progress bar that never gets completed, even when I am not receiving any messages. The number of messages (e.g., '84 of 85', '88 of 89', etc. ) gradually climbs higher and higher. Clicking the "X" does nothing. This starts about five minutes after I load Mail, and doesn't go away, ever. At the same time, the 'old' Activity window (Command-0) shows no activity, except when I am obviously sending or receiving messages. This doesn't seem to affect performance, but it's really annoying. What the heck is this indicator window doing, and why won't it stop? I'm running IMAP, but I access the same mail account at home, with the same OS, and don't see any Mail Activity weirdness at all. Anyone have any ideas?

I am having a similar problem. Mail locked 4/30/2008, all emails vanished, the loading spinners just spin on emails, it says it is downloading, but a few emails in the bar stops moving left, it drops to 0 KB/s, the spinners keep spinning, and it won't download any mail on pop accounts. On accounts with no new mail, they spin and stay spinning, and then it won't allow new accounts that have been taken online to download. There is no apparent way to get them to stop spinning, including clicking the (x) box to the left of the blue download bar. I also then can't quit mail, so must force quit it. I can send test messages between accounts, and sometime they show up on the pop accounts, but the spinners keep spinning, even when it says there is nothing to download. Other functions work during this time, except quitting.
However, for reasons I can't explain, it still does fine with my .mac account, which is my only imap.
I reloaded mail from time machine from a previous day when it worked: didn't help. I did the same with the .plist mail library thing: didn't help. I reloaded all my messages, and at least they are staying put for the moment, but 1.5 days of emails seems to have vanished. Help! I need to have mail working.
I spent 45 minutes with my local internet provider's tech support: they are baffled.
    Thanks, Daniel

  • Print job problems with AEBS - jobs don't print until another job is sent

I have been experiencing an anomaly with my printer not printing the last page of multipage documents since getting our AEBS with Gigabit Ethernet. Before getting the AEBSs, I had two Linksys routers that were performing well, but would crash regularly. I recently purchased two AEBS router to replace my two Linksys routers. I have the latest AEBS, and an older AEBS M8799LL/A sometimes referred to as the UFO or Crow’s Nest. My printer is a networkable HP Color LaserJet 2550n.
When the Apple Tech Support person could not get this printer to work when attached to an Ethernet port, they suggested that I attach it to the USB port. I finally got it to work with our Macs, and Windows XP running in Parallels using Bonjour. What we noticed right away was that the printer was taking longer to respond than when we were using it as a network printer under our previous Linksys network. Another thing that happened was that frequently a print job would not appear to have been sent (spooled?) to the printer so we would issue the print command after waiting a couple of minutes and end up with two copies of what we were printing. Yesterday I was printing a basic 5 page text document from Pages and the last page did not print. So I created a document with just a ‘.’ and sent it to the printer. Out came the last page of my five page Pages document and the document with just a ‘.’. The AEBS does appear to be somewhat more stable than our Linksys equipment, but getting printer to work properly has been very frustrating.
Is anyone aware of what might be causing this problem. At first I was blaming Windows, but it is happening very frequently when printing basic documents in Mac OS X 10.4-Tiger. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Ah the self healing properties of OSX. This problem appears to have fixed itself.

  • Creating a Queue to hold the message with in the program

    Hi
Iam creating a Queue(linked Queue or any other java Queue) with in my project. The main purpose is to check the acknowledgement message for a any message sent to the client(JMS QUEUE).
Whenever a message is sent to MQ, it is also sent to the internal Queue so that the return ack message will delete the top most message from the internal queue, thus indicating the left out non-acknowledged messages.
But the messages inside the internal Queue are not persisting, when ever i call an object( I used singleton to get the object) of the Queue it is giving me a new Queue thus ignoring the previous message.
Can anybody let me know how can i solve this problem.

Anyone? Just need to know where I can change that message and also how I can set up the icloud calender to send invites using my work email address (as configured in Mail)?

  • Mail stuck on one message and unexpectedly quits when trying to delete it

My mail was working fine until a few hours ago, no gliches at all. I checked the new mail and when attempting to delete the first new message, mail unexpectedly quit. I reopened it and tried to select another message and it quit again. Basically, I can't do anything except view this one email. Anything else causes mail to quit. I tried going accessing my mail online and deleting the messages but that has not worked. It appears the messages are stuck in my inbox.
I ran disk utility to check the permissions, etc. Have not tested and repaired the start up disk.
    Any advice would help
    Thanks

If I’ve understood it correctly, all you have to do is find a way to select the message and delete it without causing Mail to display its contents. Proceed as follows:
    1. Launch Mail holding the Shift key down until the main window appears. This tells Mail to not select any mailboxes or load any messages upon start up.
    2. Go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled -- having this setting enabled is a really bad idea for spam-related security reasons anyway.
If you have the preview pane visible, Mail may still crash again as soon as you select the troublesome message. There are at least three ways to select the message so that you can delete it without Mail displaying the message contents:
3a. You can hide the preview pane by dragging the horizontal separator bar between the message list and the preview pane to the bottom of the window, or just double-click within the separator bar, so that the preview pane disappears and only the message list is visible. This would prevent Mail from trying to load the message when it is selected in the message list. To make the preview pane visible again, drag the horizontal separator bar up from the bottom of the window, or just double-click on it again.
3b. If you select the message with the mouse, the message is displayed in the preview pane when the mouse button is released, not when it’s pressed. This allows you to drag the message to the Trash or to any other mailbox without Mail trying to display its contents.
3c. Ctrl-clicking on a message causes a contextual menu to appear, from which you can usually (but not always, don’t ask me why) choose Delete or Move To, without the contents of the message being displayed in the preview pane.

    Hello Naila1,
It sounds like you are unable to send emails, as they go straight to the outbox, but you can get the emails without issue. I recommend using the Connection Doctor to help you troubleshoot what is happening with the following article:

    Hello,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
    You may have multiple entries.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter

Welcome to the Discussions. Searching the Discussion is a powerful tool. Recently a similar report was discussed, and at least one resolution found, based upon the fact that the Mail folder was missing the Mailboxes folder, where both the Outbox.mbox AND On My Mac mailboxes (New Mailboxes) must be stored. Read:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1591253#1591253
If this is also the case with your Mail folder, it would be most interesting to try to explain why the Mailboxes folder was missing in these particular instances. Please provide any thoughts, or insight into actions that might have led to this.

  • When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.

When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.
    Any help would be welcome

This is a bug in Mail. The mailbox archiving function does not include attachments, which  gives the error with the import. To workaround this you can create a mailbox in Mail and copy to it all emails you want to export. Then go in Finder to [user]/Library/Mail/Mailboxes en select the created mailbox. Copy this to the public directory of your other mac. Then start Mail on that other mac and import the mailbox from the public directory. Should work now.

  • Mail 4.1 suddenly takes another SENT Messages folder

Since a few days, another SENT Messages folder is used by Mail to store my sent e-mails. I'm using 2 Macs and one iPhone. Before, all 3 devices used the same SENT Messages folder. However, at the moment my 2 Macs use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder to store the sent e-mails, while my iPhone still uses the 'normal' SENT Messages folder. I have no clue why my Macs suddenly decided to use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder (so with an e-mailaddress behind it).
If you have any idea why this happened, please let me know. Any help will be appreciated! If you need some more information, also let me know!

I'm not sure why you have to Sent mail folders. You can report bugs here.

One more thing to try. Quit Mail if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.mail.plist
Move that file to the Desktop. Launch Mail.
If it functions as it should, go to Mail/Preferences. Make note of your Mail preferences, then delete that .plist file.

  • Mail Stuck in Mail Submission Queue

We have an Exchange 2010 Server SP1 which is running the Hub Transport, Client Access and Mailbox Server roles all on one physical box.
The issue we encountered the other day is that ALL mail flow effectivly stopped and we have over 1000 messages sitting in the Mail Submission Queue. This meant that even internal mail being routed had stopped and was polling in this queue.
We first tried restarting Exchange Services such as the Information Store and Transport service. This did not work and mail was still polling and increasing in the Mail Submission Queue.
I then read somewhere that it could be caused by IIS so I performed an iisreset to restart the IIS services.
After IIS came back online sure enough the Mail Submission Queue started dropping and all mail started flowing again and delivering to mailboxes.
We run on the Exchange Server the built in anti-spam agents and Symantec EndPoint Protection Anti-Virus only. We have Messagelabs that scan our external mail for spam before delivering to the mail server.
So my question is.... Why is that restarting IIS caused the Mail Submission Queue to start processing normally? I am very concerned about this and would like some guidance on what the issue could be...
    Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any further ideas ?
    Hi,
I would start with investigate free disk space on the disk drives.
If the logdrive containing the Transaction logs has less then 1 GB of free space, no emails would be submitted to the database. Hence the Mailbsubmission Queue.
See the section: Low Disk Space on Database Logs or Database Drives
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331958.aspx#Low
Make sure that your backup is running as it should and logs are beeing flushed. An easy way to check when the last fullbackup was run is to run
    get-mailboxdatabase - status | fl Name, *backup*
Your problem could also be caused by Hub Transport Back Pressure
    Understanding Back Pressure
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201658.aspx
    Martina Miskovic
    Hi,
The disk drives have more than enough free space. Im not sure what you mean with the backups as we use a third party application to backup the data to a remote site. I will investigate the back pressure but unsure if this will explain why restarting IIS
    resolved this issue.

  • Queue Stucked - Exactly Once Async Abap Proxy

    Hi Guys
I have several JMS->Xi->Abap Proxy scenarios in my production environment, the Abap Proxies servers are in a SAP IS-OIL 4.72 with a SAP WEBAS 6.20 and the XI is the XI 3.0.
Some of the Abap Proxies calls are asynchronous, and when one of the abap proxies has an sysfail error (for example), it stuck the entire queue, and this is causing some problems, for the other calls (interfaces) that are not being processed until the "bad" abap proxy is "solved".
I know that we can schedule a job that reprocess the call but imagine that the problem is still not solved, I still have the other calls waiting, ie, I am putting in jeopardy some interfaces because of one error.
It seems that this queue management happens because SAP IS-OIL is treating all asynchronous AbapProxy calls as EOIO calls.
<b>1. Is my previous assumption correct???</b>
<b>2. How can I invoke from SAP XI3.0 an asynchronous Abap Proxy just with EO quality of service???</b>
<b>3. How can I setup the CCMS to alert when a queue is “stucked” (please be aware that I have a ERP SAP has a SAP WEBAS 6.20)???</b>

    Hi Moorthy
    > You are calling Proxy from XI right ?
    Yes
    > What is the source system ?
The source system is a 3rd party app that sends an XML message via JMS to XI, XI then calls the abap proxy that is in our SAP ISOIL.
    > You can restrict the quality of service in the
    > Outbound Interface..i.e message coming into XI.
    >
Are you saying that has to be the 3rd party that has to say to Xi that the async call that XI will have to do to SAP ISOIL has to be EO??? How can this be done?? Is in the Message Interfaces configuration - Integration Repository???
Remember that I'm having queue problems in SAP ISOIL, where the abap proxies are processed !!!

Thanks a lot for the links, it seems that is good head start.
However I'm concerned that because my SAP ISOIL has the SAP WEBAS 6.2 (old Integration Engine), the CCMS features that are explained in the links will not work in the old version. Remember that I've probably have to configure the CCMS in XI3.0 (my integration platform) and SAP IS-OIL my main system, where all abap proxys are run and called, where IDOCS are sent and received, ie, is the point of origin and final point of all my integrations...
That's why I'm so concerned about the stopped queues in SAP ISOIL, I really need full availability in this system (queues), I am talking around 10.000 messages being sent and received... and in the near future will be around 100.000 messages for sure...

    Two "by the ways":
    1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac.  Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac.  You might want to consider updating your system details.
    2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field.  In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it.
