Mail - Mail Activity Counts Upwards But No New Emails Arrive

This is really annoying me...
Since Leopard, Mail keeps going to one of my email addresses and continues to count upwards saying 'Incoming Messages' above the progression bar. I have to sometimes leave it on overnight for it to resolve. During the day sometimes emails come in fine but most of the time it happily just sits there saying there are incoming messages but there are not...
Any ideas?

Hi,
There's already one long topic about this -- see:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1199018&tstart=50
But nothing has been resolved. I assume you have checked the volume for the alerts, which is separate from master volume?

  • New emails arriving "read" in Mail 7.2

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help, ive searched google but come up with nothing.
I have a mac mini running Mavericks 10.9.2 with Mail 7.2
Currently running my work account through it on IMAP. New emails arrive but most of the time they arrive as "read" and not bold as unread.
I cant find anything in preferences that relate to it, so nothing that i can see is checked that shouldnt be etc.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

lllaass, thanks for your swift reply.
The account is also accessed by my iPhone but only when i am not at the office, im in the office all day today for example therefore have not sued my iPhone to check my email yet the majority of emails have arrived without my knoledge on the mac becuase they are "read".
Would the iPhone be checking my email without my knoledge?

  • How do i set up my iPhone to chime when a new email arrives? right now, the chime only works after I tap the mail icon

How do I set up my 4S phone to chime when a new email arrives?  Right now, the chime only sounds after I tap the mail icon.  I need an alert to check my mail.  Comcast mail.  Settings for mail set at "fetch new data". Thank you

Try if this works for you
    1. Tap Settings on Home Screen
    2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    3. Tap on Fetch New Data
    4. Turn "Push" to On
    5. Back to Mail, Contacts, Calendars again
    6. Under "Advanced", make sure that it is set to "Push" for all your mail accounts
Push means the server will literally push the mails to your iPhone whenever there is new mail. Fetch like the word says is where you have to manually update to receive new mail (what you are doing now)

  • I use an email client that notify's you when a new email arrives in your inbox. On IE a window pop's up to let you know whith a chime. In Firefox the window opens but with no chime. Is there an extention or add on that will do this?

    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; NISSC; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1)

Is the notifier part of the email program? Is it an independent program like poptray? If it is separate from Firefox, it really shouldn't matter which browser you are using. Unless the notification is within IE.

  • Cox email: folders synching but no new emails

    Mavericks 10.9.1 and Mail 7.1
    Mac Mini 5,2 (2011)
After setting up my cox email account using all the default settings I cannot get the inbox to get new mail without manual intervention. Existing emails are downloaded to the inbox at the time of account setup. All the other folders, Trash, Sent, Junk etc... are synching correctly. Connection Doctor shows all green dots. Activity window shows activity for each folder when trying to get new mail or switching between folders.
    Troubleshooting steps.
    1. Send new mail to Cox account from webmail of another account
    2. Open mail app on iOS device to verify new mail arrived at inbox of Cox account
    3. Close mail app on iOS device
    4. Press the Get Mail button for Cox account on Mac mail app, try synching Cox account
    RESULT:
    No new mail on Mac
    Next steps
    5. Open mail app on iOS device
    6. Delete any older email from the inbox of Cox account
    7. Close the mail app on iOS device
    RESULT
Mail app on Mac will download all new emails and also remove the email deleted in step 6.
As a side note, you can skip steps 2 and 3 and achieve the same exact results. And steps 5 and 6 can be replaced by logging onto the Cox account via webmail and to delete and older email from the inbox. So no iOS device is required to duplicate these results.
Can anyone help or should I take this to support?
    Thanks
      Dry  :-)

I would delete and  add the accounts back to the device

  • After updating os to 10.9.1can't open pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Any help would be appreciated.

After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • How do I turn off auto focus/open/maximize when new email arrives?

If I have mac mail minimized, when a new email arrives, it automatically maximize/open it and focus on the mail window.
This is really annoying. It started happening with recent updates. Is there a way to turn this 'feature' off?
    thanks.

How does one disable auto-opening a blank document (either open blank OR template chooser) when PAGES launches?
You can't. You will always get a new document or the template chooser depending on what you have set in the preferences. I suggest you leave feedback for the Pages team regarding this. You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

  • Tabs show up / Firefox "activates" when anything changes on an open tab (e.g. when new email arrives)

I've recently updated to FF 18.01
When I have my email tab open (Gmail) and I'm working in another tab (or even a different program) and a new email arrives (or chat) my email tabs "opens"/"activates" whilst I'm working in Excel for example.
It seems to do this every time any activity happens in my email....
Anybody an idea what could be causing this to happen? It's very annoying....
    Thanks

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Mail blocked on imac. Same message keeps appearing multiple times in the Recovered Messages folder but no new email gets through. Fine on ipad. Any help appreciated....

Haven't received any new emails on imac since 4 Sept (all received fine on ipad) and online gmail account. We sent an oversized message on that date and it keeps appearing continually (literally hundreds of times) in the Recovered Messages folder. I'm assuming this is causing some sort of blockage?? Seem to be able to send mail OK, just not receive (apart from new versions of the 4th September message). Any help gratefully received. Thanks

    Hi,
Since Outlook running on Windows works well, it seems an issue on the Mac side. I suggest ask Mac for help so that you can get more professional suggestions.

  • Mail locks up when trying to receive new email - help

    I'm trying to fix mail.
It's having trouble fetching new mail. When i look at the activity viewer, the progress bar just seems to hang up. If i click on the stop buttons, the progress bar fades out. Then I can't do anything , so I have to force quit mail.
There don't seem to be any issues send mail just recieveing.
The macbook pro is running Leopard 10.5.8
The total file size for the mail folder is 28.2 gb
There are 45,000+ mails and 12,000 unread mails.
One thought i had would be that mail would be full, given the size of the mail folder, and that the issue could be mail is struggling to write incoming emails to it's database.
Does Mail have a maximum total capacity for the number of emails it can hold?
    Other than that i'm stuck.
I thought rebuilding the mailboxes could help but it doesn't appear to be doing anything.
Any help would be great thanks!!!!!

I had this problem a month ago on my Mac Pro, running 10.5.8, and close to the same number of messages you have (48,000). But I was able to successfully rebuild my mailboxes...it took a few hours to complete.
You might try moving your preferences file to the desktop or a backup drive: User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist
Now relaunch Mail and see if it works. Try rebuilding the mailboxes again.

  • TS3276 How do you stop the mail application that freezes during typing of new email?

When I open up the mail application and start a new email, the application will freeze as I type.  Nothing will appear on the screen as I type, then all the sudden, the application will "catch up."  This is NOT an intermitent problem; it happens each time I try to send a new email.

    From the menu bar, select
    Edit ▹ Substitutions
    and uncheck Text Replacement.

  • Replying to emails doesn't work, but composing new emails does work

Using the standard iPhone email app, if I reply to an email, the screen will show "sending" at the bottom and will update the inbox with an arrow next to the email to show it has been replied to, but the email is not sent. It is not received by the intended recipient. It does not appear in sent items. It is not shown as in the outbox. There is no error message. The email just disappears, and the only evidence I replied is the arrow shown in my inbox.
However when I compose a new email from the same account it is sent as would be expected.
I would guess this started happening at some point in the last few days, though I can't be sure because it is failing silently.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • I have a new laptop.I can get my old imported emails but not new emails. where do i go to find them.

I used to have Outlook on my old laptop. I have a new laptop and have installed Mozilla Thunderbird for my emails. My IT friend put all my emails from my old laptop onto a memory stick and then imported them onto my new laptop with your Mozilla Thunderbird. I can now see all my old emails that were imported from the old laptop but i can`t seem to find where my new emails are located when i open up the Mozilla Thunderbird. Hope you can help. Thanks

Did you already set-up your account in Thunderbird?
I'd assume your Outlook email messages now appear underneath the 'Local Folders' account in Thunderbird. Is that correct?

  • Sound when a new email arrives

The sound does not always play when I recieve a new email. I have been through all steps with customer support and was even recently sent a new IPhone 3G. This did not fix the issue. Sometimes it sounds but most of the time it doesn't. Clearly this is a software issue and needs to be fixed in the next update.

Although you said you have contacted support, and you have been given a replacement unit, perhaps you would like to double check a setting.
Unlock your iPhone, and then hit 'Settings'.
'Fetch New Data' should be the 4th option on the list, Go into it.
    Is 'Push' turned on?
    Or is 'Fetch' turned on.
If it is 'Fetch', then your iPhone will only alert you as often as you set it to. In my case, every 15 minutes. You can choose every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly or manually.
