Mail not receiving or sending emails and needs to be restarted

Many times a day my Mail program will stop sending and receiving mail. An exclamation mark appears by the inbox. Clicking the ! does nothing. The only solution I have found is to restart Mail and then Mail works correctly for a while. My service provider says all my settings are correct.
Any ideas on what I can do to cure the problem. Thanks!

It's possible you need to login and change your passwords. The recent Heartbleed bug has required many users to change their passwords. Regardless it's a good idea to change your passswords at least once a year for security.
Open the Connection Doctor under Window when Mail is active.
You should see green lights to show accounts are connected.
You will see two entires for most accounts. One for sending (SMTP) and the other for receiving. iCloud accounts only show up as one entry.
If you see a red light you can select to Show Details button to find why you are having problems connecting.
Receiving is set in the main window for the account. Change your password then click out of the account to save.
Sending password is set in Edit SMTP. Select the account from the list. Under Advanced, add the password.
Note, sometimes you will find extra SMTP settings listed. Deleting an account does delete the SMTP settings. You can delete these.

  • My mail account is set up correctly but will not receive or send email?

    My outlook email account works fine and it has automatically synchronised the set up / account information to my iphone 4s via itunes when syncing. However I cannot receive or send emails! Anyone know of the reason for this?

    Do not attempt to sync email accounts. Security features hardly ever allow this to work without any edditing. Contact your email provider to find out the settings and servers they are using for mobile devices and then remove the existing account from settings, mail contacts calendars and create a new acccount there. After the setup is finished check all the settings of the crated acccount to ensure all sections are populated with information. Especialöly it might be neccessary to fill some fields in the smtp primary ßerver settings that are rated as optional.

  • After Installing Leopard, missing emails and can not receive or send Emails

    Hello All: Installed Leopard yesterday. Everything seemed fine except that I noticed that my mail program had lost all the emails within the box. I do know that I did not back up my email prior to installing Leopard, however, I have tons of email on the Web server but none are coming through on the Mail Program.
    I've sent 3 emails out on the new program and no one has received them and they do not show up on the SENT folder, or OUTBOX or DELETED items. Anyone has any idea how to fix this issue?

    I found the solution for our problem. Through out the preference file for mail and relaunch mail. The pref file is named "com.apple.mail.plist" and it is located under Users>your login>Library>Preferences>com.apple.mail.plist. When you take this file out of the folder leave it on your desk top or an external drive. When you restart mail, mail will create a fresh copy of the file. BE ADVISED YOU WILL LOSE ALL OF YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT INFO LIKE SERVER NAMES, USER NAMES AND PASSWORDS! You can collect all this information BEFORE you remove the plist file and quit mail. Its all listed under Mail>Preferences>Accounts. Take screen captures of all of this information, you will need to re-enter it when you launch email for the first time after deleting the plist file.
    In particular you will need to know your incoming mail server and password and outgoing mail server and password!
    Good luck. The important thing is to collect as much account info as possible BEFORE you remove the file and relaunch mail. FYI if you forget to record all this information first (which I did) you can put the original plist file back in its original location and relaunch mail and collect the information.
    As long as you don't through out the original plist file you can always go back to what you had.

    By the information that you have provided, it sounds like you are using STAMINA mode. If you are using STAMINA mode, you need to set WhatsApp as active in standby via Settings > Power management > STAMINA mode > Apps active in standby > Add applications > WhatsApp.

  • I'm not receiving the verification email and the address is correct

    My I-Cloud setting (Ipad2, IOS 5) says the email has not been verified. I signed into my Apple ID and selected
    "send verification email" but I'm not receiving it.  The email address is correct and I've verified it.  Any ideas?

  • All email accounts not receiving or sending email on my iphone 3gs.

    Since this Tuesday when I downloaded the most recent itunes 10 version none of my email accounts on my iphone are receiving email. I cannot send email as well. It says either the exchange server cannot be verified or the IMAC server is not available. I haven't changed any settings or passwords so it must be the apple software. Is this a known problem? How do I fix it? Thanks!

  • ICloud mail not receiving email on any platform

    The last email I received was last night.  Not getting any emails coming in on any device (iphone 4, macbook pro & mail).  I can send email and that works fine, but nothing is coming in.  Anyone else having this problem too?

    It seems as though somehow the culprit is apple mail.  Right now I have it closed and my messages seem to be coming through in both icloud.com and on my iphone.  Tonight I think I will reset apple mail and hopefully that solves the problem.  Have you ever had a similar problem?

  • One of my email accounts will not send email, and is not linked to data file.

    I have three email accounts set up with my Outlook 2010. All are POP3. All three accounts have been working fine, until the last day or so. One of my accounts will no longer allow me to send messages. When I go to my account settings, the two accounts that
    are working show the following:
    Selected account delivers new messages to the following locations:
    Email Address\Inbox
    in data file C:\...
    The one that doesn't work shows the following:
    Selected account delivers new messages to the following locations:
    My Name\Inbox
    The .ost data file for this email address is still in the same place, right next to the other two data files for the working accounts. For some reason, Outlook no longer has it linked to my account. How can I go about fixing this issue?

    Outlook 2010 and 2013 create PST per POP3 account. In simple, single PST file for single POP3 account. So, don’t be panic. Just change the location of the
    PST data file by following the given path in Outlook 2010:
    File >> Account Settings >>  Emails
    In the “Email” tab, choose the particular account which is not able to send emails and make a double click on it or click on
    “Change Folder” option. Finally, set the location of Email address.
    Hopefully it will help, otherwise simply recreate a new Outlook profile.

    No matter how many times I change my Outlook email settings for Verizon, the new settings have never worked.  I used to be able to at least receive email, but for many months I have not been able to send email.  I have called support and emailed Verizon and no one has been able to help.
    So now as of 11/11/2013, I can't receive or send email and I have tried to change my settings to the new settings, and nothing works.  I have gone to verizon.com/emailsettings for step by step instructions, all to no avail.
    I also have comcast.net and my own website email in Outlook  and now NONE of my email accounts work as of 11/11/2013.  It appears Verizon is the key to my problems.
    Any thoughts?

    Verizon should have no impact on your ability to use Outlook with your comcast.com account.  Verizon is only providing the pipe to Comcast, and I can get there there just fine.  Something must have been changed in your Outlook setup for your Comcast account (which is separate from the settings for your Verizon account) or Comcast must have changed something that broke your Comcast settings.
    If you provide your exact Outlook settings (inbound and outbound including servier names, ports, and SSL settings), perhaps someone can help.
    Also, can you successfully use the Verizon webmail to access your mailbox?

  • My Iphone  won't receive or send email, "data communication cannot be established since a call is currently active"

    Suddenly my phone will not receive or send email.  It tells me that "data communication cannot be established since a call is currently active"  It is burning the battery like crazy. 

    Drove to the nearest Verizon store after work, not close by either.  Unbelievably simple, he removed all of the gmail info as if it never excisted, put it back in and viola...everything works.   Cancelled my Genuis Bar appt for Monday as all is working.  Why the other Verizon guy couldn't help me over the phone is beyond my comprehension. 
    Thanks for all of your help.  It has been rather stressful especially not being able to swipe credit cards.
    For what it's worth, this fellow told me if I have trouble like this again to eliminate the gmail account on the iphone and install the google app which he said works much better than the email app that came with the phone.

Creating a mail is also not a problem and the mail will be stored at mail.ru as still to be send, only problem is its not possible to send. I noticed the buttons for sending change colour when used but they don't perform. What it is?

    Don't know what changed, but all of a sudden able to send emails by mail.ru ...... sorry for bothering.
