Mail setup question

This is a example and I hope it's not too confusing but I don't want to give out the domain name I'm using so I will call it example.com for this question.
If have a server and named it mail.example.com. So if I make a account called User, I will get the mail box [email protected] The problem is the user I created has an existing email account called [email protected] I'm planning to stop the old mail server and have this one host the email. How can I get this server to assign the user the email address "[email protected]" off the old server? We can hack this through the terminal to get it to work but don't want to change the files this way. I want to know how to do it through the GUI.
Thanks

In Server Admin
Under the General Tab for Mail
Set Domain name to: example.com
Set the Host name to: mail.example.com
Then in the Advance Tab Select the Hosting tab
and make sure the "Include server's domain as local host alias" is checked.
These settings should allow any new user to have the their email default to
[email protected]
*I have noticed that squirrelmail will still use [email protected]
To fix squirrelMail you will need to go to the command line
Type: sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
to mail changes to default configuration.
2 Enter : for Server Settings
Then
1 Enter :for Domain
Type your domain then Enter
Q to quite then save your changes.
Hope this helps

  • IPhone mail setup question

I try setting my sbc account, it retrieves fine but after I try to check emails a prompt tell me that it cannot send mail, the connection to the outgoing server failed, then right after another promp come and tells me cannot send mail, the connection to the outgoing server failed.
It puzzles me because i can read the mail but i cannot send nothing out.can you help with setting up I need the pop and smtp set ups, I have sbcglobal.net account.
    Thanks for the help
    Rich

I'll second this question. I, also, am an sbcglobal e-mail customer. I also can't get my e-mail to work. Apple points to AT&T; AT&T points to Apple, etc. If one sets up e-mail on a computer, there are places to enter port numbers. Not on iPhone. So far, the Apple folks suggest adding a colon and the Port number after the POP3 and SMTP strings. All very nice, but AT&T wants "SSL" turned on also, and I can't seem to burrow down any farther in setting up e-mail to enter those settings. So, I guess, no e-mail for me. Fooey! At the moment I can detour through the AT&T part of Yahoo's e-mail, so I can work with e-mail a bit. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

  • Noob Mail Setup Question

What is the difference between Snow Leopard Server Mail's "Domain Name" vs. "Host Name" settings? For what purpose is each name used? Please provide an example of proper settings for a machine "named" server.domain.com.
How do either of these settings relate to each Workgroup Manager User's "Mail Server" setting?
How do any of these settings relate to the "Incoming Mail Server" setting in OS X Mail clients?
    Thanks,
    Larry Goldman

You'll want to establish unicast DNS on your LAN. (Apple networking engineers recommend against using the .local top-level domain for unicast DNS, as that tends to cause weird problems.) (I wouldn't particularly trust a mail server to operate with a Bonjour domain.)
If you've started your adventure here without setting up DNS services on your local network, then you'll need to drop back and set that up. [Here is how to set up DNS on your local network|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436].
Review [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13306775] and [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13303251] for information on establishing SMTP and troubleshooting your public forward and reverse DNS and your MX record for your mail server, and for a common tweak needed to allow remote authenticated client access via SASL. And FWIW, you'll need a static IP address and open SMTP-related ports from your ISP; it's increasingly common for an ISP to block the SMTP ports on a residential service tier.

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes or will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I've posted this in the answers.Microsoft.com forum, as well as the Office365 forum, and they sent me here, saying the Outlook engineers would be the best to help with this.  I actually already posted this question a week ago, but nobody here replied.
Getting a bit frustrated at the lack of support, except for Richard over at the Office365 Forum.
I'm setting up a new laptop with Windows 8.1.  Just installed Office Professional Plus 2013.  I have an Office365 E1 subscription, but this Office 2013 is not associated with the subscription.
When I go to setup any email account using the automatic mode (primary will be Exchange Online with my 365 account, but I've tested POP email accounts with the same result), the Mail Setup crashes once the email address and password is entered and Next is
pressed.  This error message is displayed:
"Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The step displayed as in process when the crash occurs is the "Searching for [email address] settings".  The first step "Establishing network connection" is checked complete.
I've run an Office Repair, and there's no change.  I've run a clean boot, and no change.  I uninstalled/reinstalled both from the Click to Run version, as well as reinstalling from a disk install, with the same error still appearing.
If I use the manual setup mode and input the server outlook.office365.com, both the Check Name function and the Next button result in the error message:
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I've disabled the firewall and still get this Outlook error.  I am able to start Outlook and it will run now, and I can connect POP and IMAP email using the manual setup, but still cannot connect to ExchangeOnline via the manual setup.  I still
get the error "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
I deleted the Outlook data file and deleted the profile, and created a new profile, and I'm still getting the Add account setup crash Rundll32 error in the auto-setup mode.
Important to note: I tested my friend's Office365 E3 ExchangeOnline account and was able to get a successful setup test, so it doesn't appear that the problem is entirely just the Outlook2013 client, since it worked once with a 365 Exchange account.
I've been trying to get this working for 2 weeks now, and I am unable to completely switch off my old laptop using Outlook 2010 until I can get Outlook2013 setup on my new one, which is a huge hassle.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?  Please help ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Jason

IMPORTANT: I found the solution.  Another user figured it out and posted the answer on another thread.
Please spread this around to all other Outlook support techs so they know to point people in the direction of the quick (though very obscure) fix to this problem.
See this thread for how to disable graphics acceleration in Office, which iswhat causes the rundll23 error.

  • MAIL certificate question

Lately I get a question box when I open MAIL.   I have Snow Leopard, and opted to keep Mobile Me at the switch this summer.   It has been working just fine,
same as always with no change.  Now I get this:    note:  {   }   is a description from me for something I can not create here
    Verify Certificate.
The certificate for this server is invalid.  You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "mail.me.com" which could put your confidential infirmation at reks.  Do you want to connect to the server anyway?

    --------------------------------end of warning--------
Thank you in advance.    What should I do?   Is anyone else getting this?   The emails still coming in are directed to my email address.
    Tom

    I have iCloud eMail running in 10.4.11 & 10.5.8...
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • Initial Mail Setup for Old AOL Address

    BACKGROUND
I have an AOL e-mail address. Until recently, I logged on to the AOL application and retrieved my e-mail that way (I had never used the Apple Mail application). AOL recently allowed their users to get rid of AOL as their ISP and so not use the AOL application, but at the same time to retain their e-mail address. So I got rid of AOL as my ISP and moved to a local cable company.
    QUESTION
I still have my AOL e-mail address. I can easily access the e-mail to this address by logging onto AOL.com and going to the e-mail section.
    1) Can I also use Apple's Mail to access this e-mail address?
    2) If so, how do I set it up? The Mail setup routine is filled with (to me) unreadable techo-gibberish (by the way, I did get a degree in computer science back in the day). My specific questions are (when setting up Mail):
    - what Account Type do I want (POP, IMAP, Exchange)? The help files tell me to ask my ISP, which doesn't help me much.
    - then (if I guess on Account Type), Mail asks for Incoming Mail Server. Again, I don't know what they're asking for.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
    iMac 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You may find AOL Service Assistant - Internet Utilities the simplest way to set up your AOL account for Mail.
Believe it or not, it is a fairly well written, OS X-savvy application. It is also the only simple way to get any saved mail out of AOL's proprietary "Personal Filing Cabinet" format or contacts out of it's proprietary Address Book format.
You can choose to configure any of the four Apple apps its supports individually, but if you choose to import old AOL email, you must configure a Mail account for AOL at the same time. Because of this, I recommend not using the manual method from http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html to set up the account, because you may end up with two email accounts. I would also first make backup copies of Mail's pref file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) & the main Mail docs folder (~/Library/Mail) just in case something weird happens.
If you have a lot of saved AOL mail, the import process can take quite a while, so give it at least say, 10 minutes per 100 messages, before deciding it isn't responding -- there is a progress bar but it doesn't move for minutes at a time. Also, the account settings it installs may be slightly different from the ones in the unofficial guide -- basically, it installs the SSL settings the guide mentions. The included Read Me has more info about that.
I have used this app with Mail & with Address Book & it does work with Mail 2.x & Os 10.4.7.

  • Step By Step Mail Setup

I am extreamly new to this.
I have Mavericks and the related server software (V3).
I have setup the websites ( easily I might add ).
My issue is the mail setup.
All meterials I have found deal with ealier versions of the Server App.
My domain is controlled by Godaddy
    It's hosted on my mac.
    Question(s):
Exactly, how do I setup mail accounts for my domain?
Do I need to make changes to MX records ( with Godaddy )?
What ports do I need to open up ( on my router )?
Can I host mail for more than 1 site?
What I need to know it this - EVERYTHING.
    Not kidding.
Like I said, I am EXTREAMLY new to this.
    I know NOTHING about this.
    Please - help.
    - Russell

Hi - I've just been through this. It's not that hard but does need thought.
    In summary, you need to:
    - Make sure there's an MX record at Godaddy that connects your domain name and IP
    - Make sure you have DNS set up on Mavericks server
    - Set up your users on Mavericks server
    - Configure the mail service.
Since I'm not the expert, here are some resource sthat I found very helpful:
    - Search here for posts by MrHoffman - he has much sound advice and step-by-step explanation for beginners - he's answered questions for me very clearly and quickly
    - Linc Davis too has posted loads of useful information
    - The website below has a complete set of tutorials:
      http://krypted.com/guides/mavericks-server/
I found the short book below very helfpul - it's available as an ebook in various formats, either direct or from Amazon:
    http://www.wegotserved.com/2013/10/29/using-os-x-mavericks-server-home-now-liste d-amazon/
Final suggestion: the people here have a utility to auto-configure a mail server for you. Advantages - works, cheap, does the job. Possible disadvantages: it doesn't use the server standard directories (this is deliberate to avoid the risk of a future server version changing directories and screwing up), which means that you might be on your own later if you want to tweak services manually

  • Outlook 2013 Mail Setup Add Account crashes with Rundll32 error and will not connect to Exchange in Windows 8.1

I got a new Acer laptop with Windows 8.1 over 3 weeks ago, and installed Office Professional Plus 2013.  I have an Office365 E1 subscription, but this Office 2013 is not associated with the subscription.

servers have to be configured with the auto-setup and cannot be setup manually.
I've done both a system refresh and a system reset, and I'm still getting the Rundll32 error.  I tried to run a reset from a disk, but the laptop does not want to run it from the external DVD drive (giving error messages), so that doesn't appear
    to be an option.
I've searched extensively, and there doesn't seem to be any existing threads where anything like this problem is discussed.
Can you offer any ideas or solutions?
After THREE WEEKS of troubleshooting this, and some significant delays in getting help from support, I'm really close to returning this laptop.
I need an answer on this ASAP to see if you've got an insights before I return the laptop for a new one.

  • E-mail setup launching of its own accord

I'm using a Nokia X6 and ever since Orange merged with T-Mobile, the E-mail setup wizard has been launching of its own accord asking me to allow the application to use network to send or recieve data, I hit No and it goes away, but the wizard will keep launching.
It only seems to launch when the phone is locked and if I go in and out of signal.
    Some help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Any help? It's quite a pain. I've tried restarting, but that hasn't fixed it.

  • How do I get out of iOS Mail Setup?

    Hi All
I got a new iPad Mini for  Christmas.  I got it set up and working easily and fairly quickly.
I copied my Mail settings from my MacPro (OSX 10.8) using the "Sync selected Mail accounts" check box in iTunes. I've been reading mail on my iPad for about a month.
Yesterday I traveled several hours to stay with a friend for a while. I got the iPad on my friends WiFi without a problem and I can surf the web, map stuff and everything appears to be working fine... till I check email.
When I open Mail, I'm presented with the "Welcome to Mail" setup screen - like mail thinks it's not configured.
I go into Settings/Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and all my email  acccounts are there, just like they should be.
The iPad is playing the New Message alert chime as it fetches mail in the background.
When I open Mail all I get is the Welcome to Mail screen!
I tried putting in dummy info to get past the setup, but that fails and I end up back at the Welcome to Mail screen.
How do I get out of the stinking setup screen and back to my emails?

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I believe I've solved the problem.
    What I did:
I have several email accounts (ISP, Gmail, etc). I have them set to forward to one 'primary' account and I have that set to Active and the rest set to Inactive.
I went into Settings/Mail, Comtacts and Calendars and activated one of the inactive accounts, and de-activated the account I normally use. This change apparently convinced Mail that it was indeed configured and it got out of the setup screen and back to may emails.
I then went back to Settings/Mail, Contacts and Calanders and returned the accounts to their original configurations. Things are now back to 'normal'.
This is clearly a programming issue. Apps should not need to be 'kicked' like that to function.

  • Lost my e-mail setup icon, HELP!

My phone recently had an issue and would not load the address book. I had done my last backup on 1/24/10 and retored the phone. Now I have no e-mail setup icon to add another e-mail address. I also get e-mails but they go to Messages, not the specific e-mail icon to which its related. PLEASE HELP!

    Hi there!
    I suggest the following steps:
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.

  • Forgot username and password for e-mail setup

    Help!
i can't seem to have forgotten the username and password for e-mail set up. after i created the initial setup i never logged into the e-mail setup app. i can receive my e-mails now on my blackberry, but after the first set up i can't seem to access it. the username and password seem to be incorrect. how do i retrieve this info using my e-mail address alone.
    thanks ahead.

You'll need to call your service provider and ask them reset or delete your BIS account and add it back, and then you'll simply start anew, and this time, remember your username and password.
    Good luck.
