Manipulating layers in fxg

hey guys.
i want to know how can i acces or manipulate layers in a fxg file.
i created a new namespace to include my fxg
    <images:karte id="kartePanel"   verticalCenter="0" horizontalCenter="0"  height="650" width="450"/>
this is a map with different layers.
now i want to make e.g. Berlin clickable. the color should change on click and a new s:group or something should pop up.
but i can't figure out how to access to Berlin?!

.fxg files are optimized at compile time into low level Flash instructions.  This means that you can interact with the FXG object itself, but you will not be able to dig into the individual pieces that make up that FXG file.

  • Chance of manipulating layers

    Hi,
i have a .dxf file. I can load it with the DXFLoader
    ( see http://www.j3d.org/utilities/loaders/dxf/raida.html )
, display the Object in a SImpleUniverse is no problem.
I also can get the names of the single layers.
Now my Question: Are there any other Loaders, with the possiblity the change one layer..
Or is there any kind of technique to change layers? Sorry for my eventually stuopid question, im new to J3D.
    Thx in advance

  • Macbook Air vs. Macbook Pro for college

    Hello,
I am currently in college and need to upgrade my laptop. I have never owned a macbook before but some of my friends have them and they love them. I am a music major and I just added a photography minor. I need a laptop that can handle editing large amounts of photos. I will also need to have Word and Powerpoint on my laptop. I will be taking my laptop to class to take notes, so portability and battery life is also something I need to take into consideration. I have been looking into buying one of the refurbished macbooks simply because they are cheaper. Also, is there a major difference between LED and Retina display? Any suggestions as to which model I should get would be appreciated!

The MacBook/Pro has more processor options and additional
upgrades as part of a configure to order when buying online.
There also is a higher RAM capacity in the /Pro, which can
help several top-heavy applications (or a newer OS upgrade)
run better than without. All things considered, there is little
an owner can do after purchase to upgrade these.
The Retina is likely a bit sharper and is of higher resolution
but some users don't say that means a lot to them; however
the way the display is assembled may be better w/ Retina.
And consider the optional AppleCare extended plan.
The basic MacBook/Pro with optical drive & non-Retina panel
may be OK, and maybe less a theft magnet than higher end.
In the refurbished store, the saving could almost equal the
cost of the AppleCare extended plan. However items sold
in that discount area don't offer any upgrade to hardware.
Mostly the specifications of the Applications, and OS X version
that likely would see an upgrade before long, along with the
prospect of multiple-tasking several things at once, would lead
one to consider the /Pro & any options in processor/RAM/HDD.
Some older models allow you access to swap a hard drive, or
add RAM: the newer ones appear intended to not allow much.
Check the iFixit and other online guides if looking into an older
Mac model to see if they say anything about user upgrades.
Also, with a new model an unauthorized upgrade may void an
AppleCare plan coverage of an issue resulting from tampering
if something is broken where one is not supposed to go...
The MB/Pro with or without Retina, looks best for processing
and large file manipulation, layers of image editing, etc.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to achieve rotating background effect?

I am interested in creating a rotating background like the
    one found at
Dispatch . I know how to
set the rotation angle, but i have no idea how to make it rotate
where you can see it moving. I also know how to make something
slide in a line, but i dont know how to make it rotate.
Thanks in advance for your help.

There is no one tool or method that will render that type of background. It is a stack of layers containing the various shapes and stylized strokes you see. Their interacions are enhanced by their varied colours, edge hardness, layer blend modes, and layer opacity. Once you realize that it's a series of separate and very simple objects, layering up something like this isn't really that difficult, though it might take some artistic vision, taste and experimentation to produce a result that looks pleasing, and not just random or disparate.
If it's within your budget to purchase some pre-made art of this type, Digital Juice makes some every interesting layered images that you can customize for yourself by manipulating layers. Just having a look at their site can give you some ideas as to how art like this is produced.

  • Aperture Features and Plugins

Are there any special effects packages or plug-ins that you can get for Aperture? For instance, I use to use only Photoshop for all my processing and sometimes I'd lay 2 layers on top of each other, blur the top and make it a slight bit darker and transparent to make the picture deeper looking. It was a nice effect on some things.
Anyway, just one example of many and just wondering if there was anything like this for Aperture.
    Thanks,
    glenn

aperture doesn't offer "effects" as such (or layers as in photoshop), and while some plug-ins are available, they are for output/export to various formats and/or services.
of course you can achieve certain "effects" (if you want to call it this way) such as cross-film etc by playing with the different color channels in apertures levels adjustments, but this is not what aperture is about. instead of going into details what aperture is really made for and very strong at, i'd refer to the many threads in this forum discussing and covering this already in detail. look for aperture vs photoshop etc... or download the free demo version and find out for yourself.
aperture is not a replacement for photoshop, and it is not meant to be. for image manipulations, layers, blending effects, retouching etc you will still need photoshop.

  • Mid-2013 13" Graphical Issues

Just got the newest Air in the mail today. I've noticed a few times that running more graphically intense applications, such as Photoshop CS6, cause visual artifacts. Black bars, jitters, and pixelization have occured for brief moments when manipulating layers that had not occured on my previous MacBook. What's the deal with this? I'm pretty sure it's nothing I've done and might just be a screwy kext…

I have manipulated a photo using layers etc and then flattened it and saved it under a new name.  When I use 'Preview' (mac) to view the finished photo it doesn't look right.  It's as the layers have not flattened correctly.  When viewed in Elements 12 it looks OK.  The photo looks incorrect in other software such as photo books.
Looking at the same photo before flattening, what is being shown is only the top layer.
    How do I correct this?

The top layer is indeed the one that is visible, unless there is/are area(s) of translucency on that layer, so that you can visualize a portion of the subjacent layer.

  • Use PS 5 can't use on 3 newer pcs. What's equilivant with same layers & photo manipulations as 5.

I have photoshop 5. I took classes at a local collage over 10 years ago on how to use it, I learned so much. My classmates had a more generic version.  I had the more expensive, high end version compared to the class. I really don't want to lose the ability's I had in 5. The instructor was able to show me some great functions in the 5-pro version, which I use, but I don't remember which functions those were.  I just can't afford the expensive pro version and Window stopped supporting my PC long ago and I've had to save things to floppy's because that PC didn't have a CD/DVD slot.  I want to use faster PC, my duct tape and rubber bands just are not holding my unit together anymore. I moved away from great teacher and the course not offered near me now. I could upgrade to just XP if needed and purchase a used version but I'm concerned about purchasing something used. Could someone spell-out for a low tech lady ...what I could purchase that will have the 5-pro functions and what I would lose if I discontinue it for your recomdation?

If you are looking for a newer computer, I would stay away from Windows XP as Microsoft just abandoned that version. Find windows 7 if you can.
Frankly from what you wrote, any newer computer would run rings around the old system including majority of the laptops. Almost all computers now come with a DVD drive, rarely CD but it is possible. External DVD drives can be had for under $100 easy. All newer computer have usb ports so external drives are easy to find and are relatively cheap.
If you can afford $10 a month subscribing to the photography program will get you the latest version of photoshop and lightroom.
Your alternative (speaking perpetual licensing) would be photoshop elements. You would be lacking some of the features, but would work for now for all the basics.
A main difference for you anyway would be elements can be used on your system until you run into the same situation you are in now.
Whereas the subscription is done 30 days after last payment. But it can be reactivated at a later date and it is always the latest version. Therefore with the subscription as long as you pay it will never be obsolete.

  • Since upgrading to CS6, fxg exports from flash are missing elements, is there a fix?

With CS5.5 I could export vector art from Flash and open it in illustrator. Now with CS6  I cant do that without breaking everything apart if flash first. This can cause masks to be lost and is a lenghty and complicated process. If I don't break everthing apart not all the layers are imported on the fxg when opened in illustrator. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Above is a screenshot of artwork in flash. Below is the result after exporting an fxg and opening in illustrator.
It does work if I go into the group and then export (or break everything apaprt so they are no longer in groups). Some files I work with have loads of grouped elements with layer masks making it very complex to break apart and export as fxg. Previous versions allowed export in one step, I could then unlock layers or show hidden layers in the illustrator file. The masks would be imported too.

  • ANIMATIONS (.GIF FILES) AND LAYERS

    1. I HAVE PSE7 AND I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANY ANIMATIONS TO WORK. IF I OPEN AN ANIMATED (.GIF) FILE, IT IS NO LONGER ANIMATED. DO I HAVE TO PUT IT ON A SPECIAL LAYER TYPE? WHEN I OPEN ONE OF THESE FILES, PSE7 CREATES 3 LAYERS FOR THE IMAGE, NONE OF THEM ANIMATED. WHEN I COMBINE THE LAYERS SO I HAVE ONE LAYER WITH THE IMAGE, IT ASKS IF I WANT TO DELETE THE HIDDEN OR EMPTY LAYERS, CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH.
    2. WHAT IS AN INDEX LAYER? WHEN I OPENED ONE OF MY FILES, IT CAME IN AS AN INDEX LAYER AND I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT.
I'M RUNNING WINDOWS XP PRO SP2.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME.
    MAUREEN

    GIF does not support layers.
Animated GIF files may open as layers into Photoshop. You need to save them again as an animated GIF file after manipulating them in the animation panel. The 'Save for Web' function would be most ideal.

  • (How can we) Export FXG from Flash Professional using JSFL

How can we export a selection from Flash Professional as .FXG using JSFL? It appears that this is not possible... just yet! I have added this as a feature request within the Adobe Labs site for Flash Professional. Someone at Adobe suggested that I also explore the forums, so here we are. If you would also like to have this feature added, please let Adobe know by promoting the idea.
Our use case is this: we have a large Flash file with a library of over one thousand skins and assets that were built in Flash with Adobe's Flex Skins Templates. These stateful, graphical skins were used within a custom theme by several Flex 3 projects. Our ultimate goal is to bring these through Catalyst, maintaining their vectors, and use them to create Spark skins.
We've got a JSFL that can export each linked library asset, as well as any frame-labeled 'state' within these clips. However, currently we are using exportPNG, which is not ideal as it flattens our vector art into raster images. We are about to try the exportSWF option, and see what Flash Catalyst does with this. Our early attemps with importing swf's haven't been too amazing.
I'm starting to imagine some cross-product scripting in which we export symbols at a state-by-state level as .swf from Flash, then rebuild these onto layers in Illustrator, and THEN import these into Catalyst...yikes!
    Anyone have a better solution?

    Follow-up:
Out of pure wishful thinking I decided I would just see what happened if I pretended 'exportFXG' was already a part of JSFL. Based on the signature of 'exportPNG', i tried the following lines:
      var success = fl.getDocumentDOM().exportFXG("file:///C:/mySymbol.fxg");
      fl.trace("success:"+success); // output: success:true
It worked! Fantastic! I'm not sure if exportFXG is considered still in "beta" and therefore intentionally excluded from the docs, or if it was just an oversight. But at least it gives us something to experiment with.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 Layers partially disappear. Cannot get them back.

Adobe CS5.5 Photoshop running on Mac OS X.
This is a brand new installation, just purchased and installed last week, and this is the first graphic heavy task I have attempted using Photoshop CS5.5. I was working in a document (photo-manipulation) and eveyrthing was going very, very smoothly. I was using mostly Masks. The issue ocurred immediately after I tried to apply a Hue/Saturation effect to the topmost layer. All the layers experienced partial disappearing. Even though they appear whole in the layers tab, on the stage huge parts are missing.
    See this screenshot:
I tried to undo the Hue/Saturation, close Photoshop completely and reopen, and double checking the settings on each layer. I was saving as I went along but even closing without saving and re-opening the file did not help much. Most of the disppeared portions have returned, but there are still "chunks", sort to speak, that are "missing". I have spent about four hours on this piece so far, and I really do not want to have to go back and re-do the "missing" parts (that are not really missing just not showing up). And the layer with the knight is not supposed to be black, Photoshop did that all on its own. O.o
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to get all of each layer back visible? I have used Photoshop CS2 and I have Photoshop CS4 on my other computer, but I have never had this happen in any of the earlier versions. And this being the first time I used Photoshop CS5.5 for more than just saving screenshots... Yeah. Any ideas?
    ~Jacquelyn

On your recommendation, I tried turning off the OpenGL and restarted Photoshop. I also checked the blend settings. No change. I am beginning to think that perhaps the missing "chunks" on the various layers were somehow deleted. Though I did not select nor delete anything. It is very curious. I wish I knew what happened (or what I did by accident) so I can prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
Anyway, I spent a few extra hours re-doing the parts that were "missing" and now the piece is finished. http://fav.me/d49b0sz

  • Expressions - best practice for duplicating layers

    Hello,
I have a fairly complex set of expressions on multiple layers.  These layers together make up an overall effect for a piece of footage.  For convenience I have these expression linked to a controller null object so I can control them from one place.  Now that I have it set up, I want to duplicate the group of layers (footage item, various effects, and null object controller) multiple times.  I basically have a template for a footage effect that I want to duplicate multiple times so I end up with many pieces of footage with this effect applied.  When I duplicate the group of layers, I'd love to set it up in a way that the  expression variables will now point to the duplicated controller object.  I noticed this behavior happens if the expression is a simple pick whip from one property to another.  Basically a direct connection.  But if I attempt to store this pick whip selection in a variable to be manipulated further, this functionality ceases.  So my question is, how can I create a set up that will permit me to duplicate layers and have the expressions update as if they were a simple direct pick whip from one property to another?  Is this possible?  If not, how can I better set this up to allow me to accomplish my end result?
    Thanks!
    -Justin

If you have things set up so that your layer names end with a space and a number, so that they increment when you duplicate them, you should be able to use the layer's name to navigate to the other layers in the set. For example, if your layers are named "layer 1", "layer 2", etc. and your control layers are named "control 1", "control 2", etc., you could do something like this in your expressions to construct the control layer's name on the fly:
    n = name.split(" ");
    ctrl = thisComp.layer("control " + n[n.length-1]);

  • Eye Dropper, Colour Palette and Adjustment Layers?

    Hi guys,
I tend to need to change the colour of various items in images (usually because I want something in the image to be a corporate colour.
My old technique used to be something along this line:
    Open image
Ensure the colour palette is visible
    Convert to CMYK (or not)
Create curves or channel mixer adjustment layer
Eye dropper the image on a pixel I wanted to change
Manipulate the adjustment layer and watch the colour feedback from the colour palette
When the colour palette said rughly the right colour values--job done!
My problem is, whenever I eye dropper the image it tells me the current colour; but when I go back to manipulating the adjustment layer the colour palette nop longer gives me live colour value feedback like it used to in CS3. This change occured when the Adjustments Palette was introduced
This has been driving me crazy ever since CS4 came out (infact, I ignored CS4 because of it).
Is there anyway to restore live feedback???
Please, please, PLEASE help meeeeeeeeeeeee...!  :'o/

    Try something like this:
    1. Make the curves adjustment layer
    2. Click on the curve adjustment layer thumbnail in the layers panel
(not the layer mask, but the curve icon to the left of the layer mask)
    3. Manually select the eyedrooper tool in the toolbox and ctrl click in the image to set the
point or points on the curve.
When you adjust the curve from inside the curves panel, you should be able to see the
    changes in the color panel.
For the channel mixer, click on the channel mixer icon and then click inside the image with the eyedropper tool
and you should be able to see the changes in the color panel when you move the sliders.

  • Preserving layers between CS4 & Lightroom

I made a test psd file with three layers in Photoshop CS4. I imported that file to Lightroom 2.5. When I opened the file from lightroom into CS4 with the option 'Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments', the file was flattened i.e. all layers merged. I shut the file down in CS4. When I checked opening the file directly into CS4, the layers were preserved. If I added a curves layer to the flattened file in CS4 after it had been opened from Lightroom, and saved it withe same file name, closed it down in CS4, and reopened it from Lightroom into CS4 using 'Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments', again the image was flattened.
Conclusion - Layered files do not have their layers preserved when imported to Lightroom and trasferred to CS4 for manipulation.. Is this correct? If so it makes it impossible to pass images back and forth between Lightroom and CS4 and make non destructive changes to an image. Again, am I right, or am I doing something wrong?
    Many thanks

    Thanks, Jao
    It's a pity
though I see why. Trouble is that, good though Lightroom's develop capabilities are, it often seems a rather 'blunter' tool to work with. I love it for its black and white conversions, and for its gradient dodging and burning, but to work on smaller areas of tone in images needs Photoshop, in my estimation. Because of the above cited interaction between the two, the holy grail of non destructive manipulation is unattainable. Sigh.......
