Manually syncing my ipod

I have an external hard drive that had my entire itunes library on it. It accidentally got disconnected and because of that all the data was lost.
I have thousands of songs on my ipod and I don't want to lose them. Is there a way to manually sync my ipod before plugging it into the computer because I'm afraid if I do I'll lose my library for good?
So I need to know how to set up a manual sync before plugging my ipod in.
My email address is [email protected]
Thanks.

So about the external hard drive... Did you actually lose stuff off the hard drive? Or, did you just corrupt the iTunes files and the media files are still on the external hard drive and you just need to rebuild or re-add the files back to your library?

  • I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had music on my ipod that I had gotten from other people's itunes libraries by changing my settings to manually sync my ipod. However, twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it completely erased everything

I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had it set up so that I manually sync and manage my music. Twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it had erased everything on my ipod. All the music on my itunes was still in my library, but all the other music was lost. I understand that I need to go back to the other libraries I got that music from, but how do I make sure that my ipod doesn't keep syncing and erasing itself? Also, now every five minutes a message will pop up on my itunes saying that it cannot sync because of an unknown error and then it has the number 13014. I have no idea what that is about. Does anyone else go through this? How do I fix it?

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.

  • Changing itunes to manually sync to ipod

Am trying to save photos on ipod so that i can download them to my mac, but itunes keeps automatically starting up and syncing..... and wont let me press/change to 'manually' sync..so how do i change this and stop it from getting rid of all my photos on my ipod?

Connect it to your 1st computer.
Set it to Manually manage music.
Connect it to the 2nd computer.
Double click the iPod on the desktop.
Open the Photos folder and get the photos you want.

  • I installed the lastest version of iTunes and when I went to manually sync my iPod I got a message saying error -50.  I tried re-installing the latest version of iTunes but that did not work.  I then tried re-installing an earlier version of iTunes

I installed the latest version of iTunes but when I went to sync my iPod I got error message -50 and my iPod would not sync.  I tried re-installing the most recent version of iTunes but this made no difference.  I then tried installing an old version of iTunes but it would not install.  I am furious because I bought music via iTunes store and I cannot get it to load onto my iPod.  Can anyone help?  Or can anyone give me a direct email address for iTunes support?  I have been going round and round on Apple's stupid website and cannot find any help or an email address.

Quit iTunes, reboot your PC, restart the iPad and then try again.
Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • UNUSUAL error messge w/ manually synced iPod

I have an unusual problem that I have never encountered before when playing my music through iTunes off my manually synced 80G iPod.
an error comes up every time i change the song and it says "The iPod 'K-Bills' i-Pod' cannot be synced. There are too many files open currently."
it pops up EVERY TIME a song changes automatically or when i change the song....and it won't stop...its annoying and i was wondering if anyone has any solutions or possible ways of fixing this?

Thank you! IATechGuy's post worked. I was digging through that thread for a while before posting here and gave up too soon I guess.

  • Reformatted PC - now can't manually 'sync' music tracks.

I use iTunes and manually 'sync' my iPod & iPhone with my HP laptop - this has worked fine for years. I have now reformatted my laptop (with Win 7) and reloaded iTunes. Now for both devices, the music is greyed out and I can't change or add music tracks (manually) without iTunes wiping all the music. How can I now manually add/delete tracks?
    Thanks.

    Wow, that's ridiculous.
I don't understand why it wont just let me manually manage my music and videos, this is absolutely ridiculous.
I've never managed my iphone by syncing so why won't it let me just manually manage makes NO sense.
And because I have a ton of smart playlists on my iphone and I make my playlists on my phone because most of my playlists are smart playlists (Like for example I have my 4 star rated songs and 5 star ones)and I make my playlists mostly on the bus to school. I really don't want to lose my playlists my iphone is so properly organized and right now your saying I'm essentially going to lose all that if I want to add any more music.
    This is unnacceptable apple.

  • When syncing my iPod photo it transfers 2 songs then gives error message ' cannot read/write disk' what wrong?

Can someone tell me whats going wrong when I manually sync my iPod with computer only 2 songs transfer to my iPod then I get error message ' unable to read/write disk ' the 2 songs are transferred to iPod and I have to keep starting the process over again, what can I do?

First, try shutting down (powering off) your computer and resetting the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
Start up the computer, and connect the iPod to a direct USB port on the computer, if you have been using a USB hub.  If there are other USB devices (other than standard keyboard/mouse) connected, you may want to disconnect them, as a test.
If that does not help, or you already did that, it is possible that the iPod's hard drive has become faulty.  It is also possible that the hard drive is OK, but there is data corruption that is making the iPod's storage unreliable.
If the problem is not resolved, you should probably do a Restore on the iPod in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is data corruption, the Restore (erasing the storage) should fix the problem.  However, if the cause is a hardware fault on the hard drive, it will not help; the Restore may not complete successfully, which will leave your iPod inoperable.

  • New iPod Touch 32gb stalls after starting sync, error 54, manual synce gets dumped

I just got this thing at Walmart last Sunday and its been driving me nuts all week! It's the brand new iPod Touch 32gb 4gen. When trying to sync it will start to load music then stall. Sometimes it gives error code 54, sometimes says it cant convert song, cant find song, or just stalls. If I wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour it will finally un-freeze and dump everything or say the connection has timed out. I've ran repair on iTunes from control panel, no help. Un-installed iTunes and re-installed it then tried synce, no help. I un-selected everything in the iPod summary so that it wont try to synce when I connect it and selected manual synce. Then I could sync a few songs at a time, but it still stalls after only loading a few songs on iPod. Tried dumping everything out of the ipod and start over, several times, no help. I've been 6 days, all day, every day, and half the nights getting a few songs at a time on this dam thing. I found when it stalls if I turn the iPod off to force it out of iTunes I can then restart iTunes, reconnect the iPod, manually select 15 to 20 songs and drag them to the iPod. A few times I got over a hundred to sync but usually 20 to 30 songs then it stalls. Then I have to do the whole thing over again. I had a little over 1200 songs out of the 1877 songs, 11.28gb, in my music library when the last time it stalled, it dumped everything. 4 or 5 days of manually syncing a few songs at a time, GONE. Just poof, all that work for nothing. The only thing left on it is 92 of the hundred something songs I've bought from iTunes. I'm ready to take a hammer to the dam thing and send it back to Walmart where I got it.
I'm using a Dell Studio 17 inch laptop that's about 4 yrs old running Windows 7 that I installed 2 years ago. I had a iPod nano 2gb that worked fine with this computer & iTunes untill it died last spring.
Why do you have it set up so that one little hickup and the dam thing dumps everything thats on it? I cant even stop it from starting to sync when I connect it because I need to see the settings in the summary for the iPod to change the settings, but I cant see that until I connect it, but as soon as I connect it, it try's to start the sync and stalls feezing everything.
Can anybody help me before this thing drives me completely over the edge!?
    The ColoradoHermit

I have a older Dell Optiplex desktop computer running Windows XP. I copied the iTunes  folder on my laptop to an external drive and plugged that into my desktop computer. Then connected the iPod Touch to the desktop. For some reason or other the computer thought the iPod was a camera and wanted to know which photo program to open with or for it. I never did get iTunes on my desktop computer to "see" the iPod and had to give up that idea.
When going into the My Computer or Windows Explorer - which is the one I like to use for working with my files-  when I connect the iPod to my computer in Windows Explorer it will show the iPod. Open that and it shows Internal Storage, open that and a folder with DCIM shows below it, open that and a folder with 860OKMZO on it shows below that, open that and it has the 40 or 50 photos I saved from Facebook. That's it, there isn't anything else shown in its storage. The iTunes on my old Desktop doesn't see the iPod Touch either.
Even if the iTunes on my old desktop would work with this iPod Touch it wouldn't do me any good. I read in a post that once it is connected to a iTunes Library, if its connected to any other iTunes Library on a different computer it will dump everything that's on it. Which is totally stupid but I think they - iTunes - have it that way so that you cant share your music with somebody elses computer. But that also makes it so I cant manually sync one thing at a time with my own iTunes Library. I tried syncing my music first and after I got some of it on the iPod, in its summary I deselected the music sync and selected the movies or video's so I could manually synce a few to it to see if it would work. Bad move. As soon as I did that it dumped everything that was on it, then said that it could not sync the movies because the files could not be written. HUH? Why a video from YouTube could not be written beats me. But why did it dump all the music?
The last thing I did with it was put all the options in the summary in iTunes back to default, removed everything on the iPod that was left after its last dump, then disconnected it, closed iTunes, and rebooted my laptop and started over from scratch. Started iTunes, connected the iPod, after iTunes found it I opened the iPod summary, made sure everything except sync photo's was selected, then started the sync function. It immediately listed all the songs and the songs info in light gray under music on the iPod. It only got 2 songs copied, then stalled. I just left it alone to see what it would do. I opened the Windows Task Manager to see what it was doing. Even though the iTunes program appered to be stalled it was using 50% of the CPU. After about 15 minutes it showed a popup window saying the song could not be writen then another saying its connection to the iPod had timed out, then iTunes stalled and "not responding" showed in task manager and at the top of the iTunes window. After 30 minutes I had to force it to close with the Task Manager. By then it was after midnight and had been another 12 hours wasted messing with this thing.

  • IPod Classic no longer showing folders unless I manually sync

I have had my iPod Classic for years, and am connecting it to my MacPro running 10.8.3 and iTunes 11.0.3. Have not had any problems with it until recently. I keep some of my playlists in folders, and have always only synced some of them (I have way too much in my library to sync everything). All the sudden in the last week my playlists in folders stopped showing up on my iPod. The folder shows up, but it is empty. My only solution has been to switch to manual syncing, and then the folder shows up and all the files within it (and they are already there). I have tried reformatting my iPod and resyncing, but the same problem occurs, and I have to revert to manual syncing, which is really bad when you can't break it off into it's own window.
Anyone have any ideas? this is really frustrating!

Any one else having this problem?
The only solution is o manually sync (which ***** now that you can't open multiple itunes windows) or to remove playlists from folders and they sync fine with my iPod. This only started happening recently so it must be some change in iTunes wity iPod classics.

  • I'm not able to sync my Ipod with Itunes.  It's there, but even manually there is an error saying syncing didn't work.

A while back I had to restore my laptop to factory settings due to a virus.  Until that time, I was able to sync my newer Ipod Touch 4th Generation.  Now, even though when I connect my Ipod, it shows it there, I am unable to sync it with my Itunes on my laptop.  Therefore, I cannot get all my music onto the Ipod.  I tried to troubleshoot.  It said to go under my Ipod and manually sync, but when I clicked the "sync" but, after a few minutes an error came up saying "Could not sync.  Sync failed to start."  Anyone know what I can do?

i have the same problem . help, anybody

  • I have downloaded audiobooks.  Manually synced my iphone, and they appear to be on the device when viewing on itunes.  But the ipod App on the phone is empty..

Hi, I am going crazy with frustration.  THis is the first time I have tried to download podcasts to my (partner's) iphone.
I have downloaded the latest itunes software.
Having gone round and round in circles I'm fairly confused over what happened when.  But I got scared when I tried to Apply settings and kept being told that this would Erase and Sync.  ERASE?   Was also told that I wasn't connecting to the correct library, which baffled me.  How did I end up with 2 libraries?  Isn't Apple supposed to simplify this stuff?  Was told that clicking Apply would mean files not downloaded to the Mac would be deleted.  ***?
I got scared by all these messages and so paid £20 for an app that allows me to transfer files from the iphone to the Mac, because I seemed to be in danger of losing precious photographs.   I actuallly own an Android phone, and all I have to do is connect it to my windows laptop and it behaves like any other storage device, allowing me to copy files back and forth.   But this is not possible with the iphone.  It's a closed device.  Hence the need for software to allow this simple procedure.
Anyway, enough griping.  Sorry I can't be more specific as to how I arrived at this problem.  But the problem IS:
I chose to manually sync files between Mac and iphone.  Selected all the audiobook chapters I wanted to sync.  Pressed sync.  Sync occurred.  According to itunes, the audiobook files are sitting on the iphone.   According to the iphone (looking via ipod App), THE CUPBOARD IS BARE.   No files have been synced from itunes to iphone.
I have found a lot of people have this problem, on other forums.  But there are no definitive answers.  Just confusion and frustration.   I would be SO grateful if someone could give me idiot-proof advice on how to deal with this.  My partner is counting on me to sort this out, as he desperately needs audiobooks on his iphone so he can decompress from work stress and do some exercise!   As the barely technical-literate one, it's down to me to fix this!
Here's hoping.   If none of this makes any sense, please do ask for more detail, and I will happily respond.
    Lisa

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

  • Hi at the moment my ipod is on manual sync mode. Is there any way of changing this to auto-sync without losing the music on my ipod or library? Possibly more importantly is there a way I can transfer the ratings from my ipod onto my i-tunes?

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is not.

  • How do I force a manual sync for my iPod touch w/iTunes v.11.0.1.2?

After the upgrade to iTunes 11.0.1.2 I am unable to find a way to force a manual sync for my iPod Touch.  Also, some of the podcasts seem not to go into the proper folders, they wind up in an "unkown album" folder after downloading.  Is there a way to fix this or even manually move them into the proper folders(albums)?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

  • HT1535 downloaded songs from itunes will not sync to ipod classic, I am not able to manually transfer them either

Songs are not downloading from itunes software to my ipod classic.  I have tried manually syncing, and they are all check marked.  Really frustrated as I have spent way too many hours trying to fix this.  Please help.  Is it possible my libraries are messed up?

Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes has no affect on the media on the computer or the account it is linked to.
If the media was purchased under another iTunes account, then it is permanently tied to that account.

Copy all the contents currently on your iPod Classic to your new iTunes library and then choose the Erase and Sync option. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
