Master data should not overwrite

Hi
How is it possible to avoid overwriting of master data.
Custom datasource is created to extract multiple records for a single account with different attribute pin values. Problem is in BW where the multiple records become one. Can this be overcome.

master data functionality cant be changed because there will be no master data with duplicate records,main info object acts as primary key, as per data base functionality primary key cant holds duplicate records,
if you want to store that duplicate values use ODS in place of info object and make ODS additive from over write.

Hi Experts,
I have a unique requirement where whenever a material is created a workflow should be triggered and a approval process has to be carried out. But my requirement is till the approval process is not completed, the data should be updated in the database table. But should be held in a buffer/workflow container. If the material is approved it should be updated in the database table and if it is rejected the buffer must be cleared and database should be updates.
How can i do this experts?

This is not a peculiar scenario. Even i have come across such a scenario. The only problem here is you are asking after the creation of the material WF should trigger.
1) Use some othe form(PDF or word) to fill material details and once it is filled send that details to your user in this step keep a user decision if he accepts through BAPI create the material in backgroung or else if he rejects using process control terminate the workflow
2) Second way will be if they insist on creating the material in the same desission step on reject using bapi delete the material from data base.
Have a word with your MM consultant and ask him to slightly change the process. Tell him clearly one Material is saved it will be created no other way to buffer it else go for screen exit and develop similar scrren and then use bapi to create.

there is no link in vendor master creation that could check that company code and purchasing org are belonging together.
the vendor master is in general just 3 more or less independend levels: general data, company code data, purchasing org data.
Why should it not be possible to maintain a company code data view for any company code available in customizing?

Assume you have a system with 3 companies and 3 purchasing orgs maintained for one vendor, then you have 9 potential combinations. then 3 combinations would make sense, while 6 possible other combination would not give any sense.

3 - 3 makes sense
1 - 2 no sense
1 - 3 no sense
2 - 1 no sense
2 - 3 no sense
3 - 1 no sense
3 - 2 no sense
As there is no restriction (except auhtority) the user can create any meaningful and nonsense combination in vendor master creation in one go.
But fact is that you have to have 3 companies and 3 purchasing orgs maintained for one vendor. While creating purchase orders SAP checks if the combination entered in the PO does make sense.
the users who are able to create vendors should have skills to do so.

Why change pointers for master data, why not change message?

I have one doubt about Idoc.
When changes to master data has to be sent Change pointers are configured and used. (CDPOS & CDHDR). In case of the transaction data change change idoc is used as is the case with orders (we use ORDCHG for ORDERS message type to send the chnage details to a order which was already sent to other system.
Why we can't use change idoc or message type whatever, instead of Chnage pointers in case of master data or vice versa in case of transaction data.

Change pointers are getting stored in the tables BDCP and BDCPS. As SAP suggests these tables should be as small as possible. And Master data are not much frequently changed data.
As you compare with the transactional data, you need to change them many times in the real scenario. If we also process the transaction data via chnage pointer, these changes BDCP is getting more and more entries.
RBDCPCLR is the program used to process the change pointer. If you have much data in the BDCP table, this program will take much time to run.
So, we use the change pointers for the master data only.

All master data values not shown in query selections

I have created a query on a BasisCube containing the InfoObject 0FUNC_AREA. I loaded data to 0FUNC_AREA and the cube.
I then created a query on the cube, in which I want to filter on 0FUNC_AREA. However, when I get the list of available values for 0FUNC_AREA not all the values in the master data is shown. It only shows 25 values out of 105.
As a default, the data shown is only the cube data, so I removed the tick in the checkbox: Show only InfoCube data. Still the same.
Then I went to the InfoObject and set the 'Query Def. Filter Value Selection' and 'Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn' equal to 'Values in Master Data'. Still the same.
Then I deleted the contents of the InfoCube. It still shows the original 25 values.
The really strange thing is, that when I go into the selection screen for 0FUNC_AREA in the BEx and limit the shown values to one of the values available in the master data but not shown in the list, it shows the text of the functional area in the limit summary window. But still when executing the limitation, it cannot find the value!!!
The problem is the same in LISTCUBE
I hope some of you can help we with this.

Hi Hari
1) Reactivated the master data, said it was already active.
2) Could see a difference between the data contained in cube and the remaining data. Otherwise not.
I deleted cube and master data and reloaded, the problem still persists. I am beginning to suspect a bug in BW.
I have to determine whether I am going to live with it (as it isn't critical, just a nuisance) or create an OSS on it.

Impact on transactional Loads if Master data is not loaded

Scenario for your reference:
The loads to ZPO_LINE from PC3 was failing for past 20 days from The fix was applied on April 21.
I need help to decide the effects of not loading ZPO_LINE for past 20 days. And create a detailed plan for data loads required.
If the master data is not loaded for 20 days will it affect the transaction loads happened during those days?
And how can i find out the impact and correct the transaction data if it does?
Can any 1 help me with this?

Hi,
If i understand your scenario, you have a scenario where the Master data load has not been updated for the last 20days but, the transaction data was loaded without any interruption.
In such a scenario, the Transactional loads will only be affected if there is some field which undergoes transformation after looking up on the master data.
So, first load the master data and run the attrib change run process.
After this, if the transaction data is in full update mode, then you dont need to do anything as data will be refreshed with correct values in the next load.
If delta loads are there, you might need to performa full repair.

AR Invoice date should not be less than delivery date

How can i make an alert for user when they will prepare AR Invoice?
Example:
If Delivery date is 01-10-2010 and Invoice date should be later or same but not less than delivery date(01-10-2010).
if Invoice date is less than delivery date then This data should not be added into the database.
So there is any way to stop this error.

I put CONTRACT START DATE and CONTRACT END DATE fields on the form. These 2 objects (Date/Time objjects) i pulled them from Satndard tab of pallette and dropped on my layout page design, fine.
Now, am trying to put a validation that the end dat eshould not lower than start date, so, i got a thread as below from Niall,

If you use the exit event, you will probably have to have the same code on both the start and end date fields since they have a dependancy on each other. Maybe better to try the validate event of the end date so that if either field is changed the event gets fired. You can try the following for validate event

Master data is not getting enabled in the InfoSet.

Hi Experts,
I have 3 DSOs in an InfoSet and I have also brought 2 Master data infoobjects in this infoset.
The master data check box in the infoset is not enabled and also not getting displayed in the Query Designer.
Can anyone please let me know how do I bring the master data in the query???
Also please advice me whether I should have only 3 DSOs in the infoset.

In my DSO I have an InfoObject called Emp No. in the Data Field.
The Emp.No is being maintained as master with (Emp Name, Address, Telephone No, DOB) as attributes.
I have loaded the data in the Emp. No master. Then tried loading the transaction data in DSO.
The Emp.No is there in the DSO active data, but in the query designer its not getting displayed.

Master Data is not appearing in Info Object

Hi Experts,
I have loaded text data from data source 0WS_QUEST_TEXT to info object 0WS_QUEST. While running DTP, Load monitor displays 12 records are added to info object.
Also while activating master data it gives error: "Master data for characteristic 0WS_QUEST already active"
When i select Display Data option by right clicking on Info Object 0WS_QUEST, no data is displayed.
Please let me know whether I am missing any step while loading master data.
Please note that info package has already run and data is there in PSA.

Hi,
Just go to Infoobject and right click and select option maintain master data.
Don't put any value and just execute.since there are only 12 records,it should show all the records .
You can also check text table data by getting inside that object directly or through SE11/SE16 option.
When the records are activated ,it will not activate it again,so it is not error,its just a message.

BIA Master Data Index Not Updated After Change Run

In BIA it shows master data 0VERSION table /BI0/SVERSION has 360 records which matches with the number of entries in SE16 /BI0/SVERSION. One record was added to 0VERSION so now SE16 /BI0/SVERSION shows 361 records. I did a change run for this infoobject 0VERSION but the BIA index for /BI0/SVERSION still only show 360 records. I expect it to show 361 records after the change run. Is this a bug? Thanks.

I see one of 3 possible scenarios:
1) You load 0VERSION as a part of master data load (from flat file or another system). You see your 11th record in version "M" after load and then you run change run that makes "A" version of the record. ---> BIA index should be automatically updated. If not - open OSS message to SAP.
2) You load transactional data in an InfoCube, and it has new value for characteristic 0VERSION. ---> In this case you need to run roll-up of this new load request in the InfoCube to let BIA index be in-sync.
3) You are modifying 0VERSION manually (e.g. SQL INSERT statement), so system is not aware of new record at all. ---> You need to run the mentioned single-table-index program to update BIA index.
Is it any of these 3 scenarios, or you have the 4th one?

Master data updation not reflected in Bex report

Hi,
There is a field "Approver" in a report. It will only show the name of the Approver. And recently the same approver name has been changed in MDM system and now the problem is newly changed name is not reflecting the reporting. It shows the only old name in reporting.
My doubt is, what about already loaded record in BW system. Whether changes will be made for the older data. I mean it is possible to overwrite the approver name stored earlier in BW.

Yes, master is always overwritten.
load the new value to the approver Info object.
in RSA1 -> right click --> activate master data.
Initially when data loaded, records will be Modified version. when you perform activate master data then M versions records will turn to A version.
records with A version are only visible in Report.
If your report is on Aggregates, then you have to perform ACR (attribute change run) to update the same new value in aggregate.
you can use the program RSDDS_AGGREGATES_MAINTAIN.

Master data check not working when loading into and ODS object

Hi guys,
we are loading transactional data into an ODS from a flat file.
In the infopackage, we have checked the option :
"Do not update data if no master data exists for a characteristic".
This option seems to be unreliable :
For some characteristics (it seems those loaded using transfer rules (routines)), incorrect data is still loaded into the ODS even if no entry exist in the associated infoobject master data table.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Dear,
please delete all the incorrect master data from the master data characteristic first and then try to uploading the data again .It should work, because there migth be some master data created when data were loaded with out the check before.
And please check whether all your characteristic info object are of master data , I mean that in the infoobject defination you have checked the master data check box on the info object. If you have only text then it might fail the master data check.
